    Could you make some more videos on how to play defense? I really loved Defense 101 - Using the Markings and this video. I play defense on my team.

    Thanks for the video. I started playing defense this year and people have really helped me get more comfortable with it. I really enjoy it. Next game, I will have to keep in mid to keep my outside shoulder lined up to the winger's shoulder.

    Great video Jeremy, and for those defensemen that don't think you can use your stick to drive them to the outside I do it all day in-game, only 1 of 2 things USUALLY happen either they take what you give them or they'll try to dangle you but if you've matched their speed that probably won't work out. Hey Jeremy you should do a video on when to turn as a dman I see a lot of beginner's back skating then they wait til the guy is already by them to turn around and basically take themselves out of the play.

    I keep my stick in one hand and close to my body so the offenseman has the illusion that my stick is shorter so I can then poke check. Also, another tip is to never look down at the puck. In fact, stare straight into the offenseman's eyes and follow his chest everywhere. This will prevent him dekeing or trying to go through your legs because if he attempts any of those trashy show off moves, you can just body up on him and block his path.

    Hi I have a question please - If a guy is coming in on me, one my side of the ice, one on one, but i have my d partner on the other side of the ice, and my options are to send their forward to his fore hand along the boards or back hand into the middle ( where i have help) , what is the best move? Thanks

    • @danielsanchips9719
      @danielsanchips9719 8 років тому +1

      move him to the boards and have the other defenseman pick up someone that might be trailing for a pass. as a defenseman you never want to give up the middle of the ice, because on the boards forces the forward to pass, rather than shoot from the slot if you push him towards your partner

    Weird, I'm more comfortable passing with my backhand and even if I wanted to pass or shoot with my forehand bad enough, all you gotta slam the brakes after you get your desired depth and then let it rip

    1.Look at their chest
    2.Have your stick back a little bit, you never want the player to know his or her limits, so when they get close, you get the kill

    Great tips, but when you go on the ice the first time after, I'm not sure you'll apply these teachings. You will most likely use your normal techniques.

    Why do you have two hands on your stick? I never see D have two hands on their stick while defending

    • @howtohockeytraining
      @howtohockeytraining 9 років тому +2

      The older style is to have one hand on the stick. With this you can impede the player with your free hand, and you get a bit more reach on the poke check. A lot of defensemen still use this style, however you can't really use the free hand to grab players anymore as that usually will get you a penalty.
      With two hands on the stick you get more power in the poke checks, and when you get the puck you'll be ready to make a play and pass because you already have two hands on the stick. It's really personal preference though and still depends on some situations

    When I played defence I didn't try to poke with the stick. I backed up and then suddently stopped and took the player down. His consentration was on the puck, and it was sort of a surprise move.

  • @dave1927p
    @dave1927p 9 років тому

    why are you giving the guy your zone. You have to try and stop him at the blue line.

    • @howtohockeytraining
      @howtohockeytraining 9 років тому +1

      I agree in some situations. It depends on your gap, their attack, speed, etc. Personally I love when I have speed in the neutral zone and a defensemen tries to stop me at the blue line. I throw one fake, side step and I have the whole zone to decide what to do on the goalie.

    • @voltage80x
      @voltage80x 8 років тому

      Trying hard to stop them in the neutral zone will often result in you getting faked because all the space they have and a nice breakout for them.
