    Global Synthetic Ice presents the first Super-Glide synthetic #icehockey rink with full regulation markings!
    North America's first NHL-sized synthetic hockey surface - built from plastic instead of ice - has opened in the northern Alberta hamlet of Fort Chipewyan.
    The rink will mean big savings on operational costs in the long term and will also have a smaller environmental impact. According to The New York Times, a refrigeration unit for a regular #icerink can cost up to $2 million, but additional maintenance costs can be about $300,000 a year.
    Super-Glide SLICK #syntheticice is perfect for public #skating, #hockeytraining, #figureskating, portable commercial #icerinks. Assembles in minutes, no maintenance, great income.
    Hockey Training Rinks are opening at a pace never seen before as #players training on SLICK are far superior to those only #training on ice. Players get an overwhelming advantage in speed, strength, and overall skating knowledge.
    The blade does not dig as deep as on ice, so #skaters need to have more correct, precise positions then with ice making them better. When returning to ice an increase in speed is notice immediately. Fundamentals are more understood and improved by players letting them reach levels never thought possible.
    The revolutionary Patented System (Patent No. 8,129,005) developed by Global Synthetic Ice eliminates expansion and contraction problems and along with the smooth glide quality earned Super-Glide the “Better than Ice” reputation.
    Independent studies conducted in Canada on longevity of Super-Glide show life expectancy in a range of 20-30 years. Many of our first Super-Glide synthetic ice-skating rinks installed almost two decades ago are still operating with many more years of usable service ahead.

    In track athletes will run on a road with a 10 percent incline to become faster. If this synthetic material requires a 10 to 15 percent greater effort in practice then a game on ice will literally make you faster whether you want it to or not.

      no it wont. just like roller skating will not better your ice skating. at the moment, there is simply no substitue for ice..., i mean not even close.

    • @GlobalSyntheticIce

      Synthetic ices are different. It's also very hard to measure percentage of the effort which depends on many factors e.g. the quality of ice, skate blades, skater weight, etc.
      Yes, practicing on synthetic ice significantly improves the skating technique and speed on real ice.

    Depends on the product. Super-Glide never gets chopped up like ice it is smoother then second period ice, always. (blades only go hair thin deep into the surface) Staying on top of the surface makes the skater understand edges more. You have to push harder, that is why so many teams train on it, they become stronger, faster and better skaters, like swimming against the current.

    We have high level goalie training on Super-Glide since 2004 and increasing the number of goalie training facilities ever since especially in Canada. This is a great benefit for goalies, being able to extend their training sessions without the cost of ice. The pads slide as close to ice as you can get.

    This is pretty cool I didn't even know there was such thing as synthetic ice. I'm impressed it works as well as it does

    As the skater in the video, I was going as fast as I can and do on ice (I’m not 20 anymore) and I do not understand “working hard on turns”, I was just gliding, no big deal, never felt it was hard at all. The main difference is you do not dig as deep as ice so good skating technique becomes more important giving the skater the ability to understand their flaws faster and improve, and the surface never gets cut up like ice.

  • @GlobalSyntheticIce
    @GlobalSyntheticIce  12 років тому

    Stopping is the same as on ice, the surface shaves just like ice, but since the flakes are heavier then ice they do not spray up. All skating elements can be performed on Super-Glide.

    In the youtube video - Super-Glide Training Rink - Florida
    The player makes a comment on how good the puck moves when passing. Notice the saucer passing, comments after skating were “the puck moves just like ice which is very important.”

    @hockeyman361 Yes you can stop on it. You can do hocky stops but it will dull the blades quicker than other stops and C- turns

    @MrJNEW82 You lightly mist Super-Glide Skate Enhancer on the surface. This takes away the friction between the skate blades and Super-Glide panels. As you break the surface in the less you use.

    Perry who has been skating on synthetic ice for 20 years sharpens his skates more than anyone and his boots have always broken down before the blades wore out. Wearing out blades is very hard to do, even sharpening every day, he gets new skates about every ten years. He always says the same thing “the amount of benefit you receive from skating on Super-Glide far outweigh skate sharpening.”

    @gsx185 Most Super-Glide rinks have sharpeners; with a sharpener players enjoy the rinks more. Shooting, Passing Drills and stick handling workouts can all be done standing still making the blades last hours longer. The boot protects your feet so full power passing can be practiced for hours which will help out any team.

  • @GlobalSyntheticIce
    @GlobalSyntheticIce  12 років тому

    @gsx185 The blade becomes duller faster than ice, this is not ruining the blades, sharpening is part of ice skating. Ice dulls the blade faster when stopping. Different types of skating (Aggressive game, training, and pleasure skate) all dull the blades at different rates. The average skater has the blades last 45 min.-1 Hr. Professionals up to two hours. Skating for 20 min. on Super-Glide is equivalent to 1 hr. of ice time (endurance and mussel workout).

  • @GlobalSyntheticIce

    @ForeverDirt3 The particles that get shaved when stopping are heavier than ice and show, so they do not fly through the air. It doesn't get shaved as thick as ice.

    @bantamsnipes3 On video Super-Glide always looks like ice but when you see it up close in person it is not cold and looks like a blue floor. The color was designed from the paint real ice rinks use so from more than 10 feet away it looks like ice

  • @GlobalSyntheticIce
    @GlobalSyntheticIce  12 років тому

    Yes, it shaves it just like it shaves ice. The particles just do not fly into the air because they are heavier then snow.

    Super-Glide Heavy Duty comes with a 10-year warranty, but tests show the surface will last well over 30 years. Our 11-year old rinks are not even halfway through their skate-able life with many more years of skating to go.

    Super-Glide skate enhancer is misted on and was designed to work with our surface. When used correctly the skater does not know anything is on the surface that is what separates us from others whose surfaces must be soaked with silicone to work and the major complaint of skaters.

    Is it accurate to think that these tiles will lie flat on a home driveway or garage floor, assuming the surface is rigid and free of debris? In other words, I'm guessing that gravel and grass are out, but what about relatively smooth concrete with no serious cracks or flaws?

  • @GlobalSyntheticIce
    @GlobalSyntheticIce  11 років тому

    The surface remains the same the entire life, there is never anything that needs to be done except clean. The surface gets better the more it is used so five year old surfaces are faster than new ones.

  • @GlobalSyntheticIce
    @GlobalSyntheticIce  12 років тому

    The blade does not go very deep and it takes a long time before the blade to go over that exact spot again. Longevity has never been an issue with Super-Glide. Parents purchasing Super-Glide for their kids will have their grandkids learning on the same surface as well.

  • @GlobalSyntheticIce
    @GlobalSyntheticIce  12 років тому

    Depends on how good a skater you are, professionals can go as fast as the blades will allow, the only difference is the glide will not be as long when not pushing. On ice you glide farther when standing, on Super-Glide you become a stronger skater, skaters learning on Super-Glide are faster then those who learn on ice.

  • @GlobalSyntheticIce

    @rydogg2006 We have been training hockey players for ten years and find inside rinks just have to be swept up or blown off with a leaf blower. Outside rinks should be pressure washed every two weeks to keep a higher skating quality. Dirt is the same as on real ice, not good. Twenty players is considered light use for Super-Glide our surfaces were designed for hundreds of skaters hourly and those rinks are only halfway through their first side after eight years.

    What you fail to say is skating on “Super-Glide” for 20 min. is equivalent to 60 min. on ice. Players skating on Super-Glide are stronger, faster and have more endurance then those who only skate on ice. At our facilities skate sharpening is free so who cares about how often you sharpen, you are improving faster. The amount you spend on “real ice” time is far more expensive and you still have the cost of sharpening. Coaches agree this is the most economical way to develop “the best” team.

  • @GlobalSyntheticIce

    hi, a few questions.. What is the friction ratio compared to ice? Seems to be harder to skate on this surface.. What would it be? 10, 15% or more friction? Also, what is the lifespan of this surface? Also any lubrication or wax needed to be applied as maintenance? Can it withstand changes in temperature? from Sun heat and freezing?

      Super-Glide is the fastest and most realistic synthetic ice surface and the reason for our success. It takes about 10 minutes to adapt to the slight difference but once you get moving the comments are always the same, “just like ice”, our slogan since 2000.
      Longevity has never been an issue. In Canada test was preformed and the results showed a rink skating hundreds of skaters per day would last over 40 years.

    A skate sharpener close at hand is better. Ice dulls blades the same way and then you sharpen them. Perry Boskus who has skated thousands of hours on Super-Glide has always broken down the boots before the blades were anywhere close to being used up. The amount of benefits gained by the player far outweighs skate sharpening. Just like ice, hockey stops dull blades, When you reduce hockey stops the blades last much longer between sharpening.

    You do not dig as deep as ice, there is no need to, all skating maneuvers are performed just like ice, and the surface is never cut up as bad as ice. As we always say Super-Glide shows all the skaters flaws because you are on top of the blade more, if the skater has technique problems in their skating they show up on Super-Glide and can be corrected easily.
