Aloha fellow subscribers: What you see in this video is just half the story. Here's my perspective from being out on the water same bat time, same bat channel: So I arrive at the harbor as Shea and his pal Gordon load up and launch. They go left, I go right because I was determined to try my luck at the same spot where I hooked a missile-esque Ono (I saw it actually launch out of the water before it bit trough my wire leader!). When I go right, I motor up the coast about 4-5 miles because I have an electric motor and I was out of Walkie Talkie range. Anyway, I had no luck and decided to cruise down towards Shea and Gordon, just for the fun of it. Now in walkie-talkie range, I hear on the radio that Shea has hooked a Shibi and he lands it. I cruise up to him. No big deal, like a 12 Pounder. I ask him how his day went overall. He says something like, "Oh pretty good. I caught another one, also." I say, "I don't see a big bump in your fish bag." Shea nonchalantly says, "Because it wouldn't fit." So, I still could not see it because it was under his feet in the upper 6' 'hull space' of his kayak. I get to the harbor and Shea comes in and he is pooped, I could tell by how slow he was moving and the look on his face. I walk down to help him out a bit and holy moly...MONSTA TUNA! Damn that thing was big. Took a photo or two, but had to do it quick because his biceps were burnt! 🙂
One of these days…I want to be that calm where I can unscrew my hydroflask and take a sip mid fight. Lol😂 how many monsters do I have to catch to master that skill😂
Masterfully done, fighting such a big, strong fish on light line, landing it safely and paddling, not pedaling it back to the launch. Thanks for sharing this with us Shea.
I been waiting for this vid!!! Man I was missing fishing being in cali this past weekend, but this at least tide me over. You know that sucker is big when tou have the long stalemates and the 4th, 5th, and even 6th runs still scream that drag haha. Nice one bro!
@@AffordableWahoo Your videos have inspired me to try live baiting with smaller tackle. I bought a couple of the Tiger Lite and 8500 live bait reels to try out next week. Me and my "crew" have to work on Saturday, and I have church obligations Sunday, plus the playoffs, so we'll have to wait until next week... Big mahalos for sharing!!!
Haha yeah man it's really tiring fighting bigger ones on the spinner! Cant even rest the rod on the kayak since the line runs along the underside of the rod
Congratulations!🎉 That is was a great catch. How big? What size line? You did a a great job! Deserved every bit of it. Had to paddle back too big to go in the bag, haha. 😂 Aloha
Thanks braddah! Was 73 on the hanging scale, then maxed out my bathroom scale so... it's at least 73 I guess? Was on 40 lb line so definitely had to baby um a bit. I gotta just make rod holders that don't block my bag then mahbe can at least get it part way in 😂
Wow, beautiful fish there. My mouth is watering for the poke bowls that one is gonna make. Hahaha. Did you put it on the scale when you got home to check the weight? That ones gotta be pushing Ahi status (100lbs). Congratulations. Yah You!!!
Thanks man! The poke and sash came out killer! It ended up weighing 73 lbs on my hanging scale, then when I double checked against the bathroom scale it maxed out so at least 73 😂
It's a dream to fish yellow fin in a place like this, I only fish for tuna now, it fights a lot, I think on spinning reel it's better on kayak, congratulations on the video,where were you fishing in Hawaii? Nice tuna.
Thanks! I watch Rokkit fish Australia and am jealous of the Mackerel situation over there! It's home made bait tube using floating PVC pipe. I learned it from another hawaii kayak dude ua-cam.com/video/xLB9walgoIc/v-deo.html
Wow 😮😮 What a toad!!! Very nice work getting that in. You always amaze me with the fish you pull in. Nice Shibi Shea!!Just got back from San Diego been eating BF for 5 days. Not getting old. Really enjoying your content braddah!!!! Keep’m bent 🤙🏻🤙🏻 }
Ah man I know how that goes! Just had a several month stretch of getting zero baits most of the time. Days like that so glad to have the vertical jigs 💪
