YES! HE DID IT! HE LISTENED TO MERCYFUL FATE! Once you listen to Fate/The King you never go back. Everything King Diamond touches is pure gold. I remember once as a kid in the 80s MTV had an hour long TV show at Midnight called Headbanger's Ball. One Halloween it was hosted by King Diamond and it was the best thing ever to happen to TV. Imagine a King Diamond TV show. That's what we got for an hour one year. LONG LIVE THE KING!
Just to Clarify, As said in another comment, MF was formed in 1981, they disbanded in 1985 and then King (and a couple other MF band members) started King Diamond (the Band). Mercyful Fate reunited in 1992 and had a string of albums until they disbanded again in 1999. King was simultaneously active in both bands during that time. Mercyful Fate hasnt done anything since 1999 but they were supposed to reform and do a tour this year until Covid happened, so maybe next year.

It may be just me and its definitely subjective. It also does not diminish my love of the King Diamond band. But MF was my first love of his music and will most likely always be! The new King Diamond record 'The Institute' has been recorded for awhile but was delayed due to the Sweet N sour sniffles. Can't wait for new Mercyful Fate as well... it will feature original guitarist Hank Shermann. Both are going to be epic...\m/

You should check out mercyful fate video nightmare be thy name, the uninvited guests, gypsy. Then king diamond video, the family ghost. I love almost every song he has created.
Really if you just pull up mercyful fate, or king diamond, it should give you just about every Sony that you can see a video or hear a song that someone has put on UA-cam. There is just about no song that I dislike. I love them all.

Damn... shots between sets, human bones, amazing acting and singing... just incredible. I had planned on going to (several) concerts that featured stage performances beyond just the band but obviously the world got canceled...he’s definitely on my bucket list now
I count myself lucky to have experienced him live. I will also say this I’ve been in a slayer pit as well as megadeth and anthrax and by mercyful fate was the most brutal.
Mercyful Fate influenced so many bands. They are working on a new album, along with a new King Diamond as well. Oh, and King and MF have always had low budget cheesy videos lol.

I think the best thing he did was bring LaRocque into the band!! He is to the guitar what Neil Peart was to drums!!!

First band King Diamond was in are Black Rose in 1978-1979 and then he formed Mercyful Fate in 1980-1981 and then he went solo in 1985-1986
