    The fuel cell/gas tank idea is good.
    I would also put the tow receiver hitch back and use it as a recovery/tow point.
    This is going to be one solid KJ

    2002 Liberty I call 'Bert'; One of our Mack semis was stuck in the sand on my jobsite with an empty aluminum rock trailer- hooked ol' Bert up to it and dropped into 4low, eased into the accelerator and Bert dug in then popped the truck right out. Everybody on the jobsite was high fiving me and couldn't believe it. KJ simply means Keep Jeepin'

    If the stock tank has baffles in it use it. If it doesn't use the fuel cell. Because as you know when your out wheeling those funky angles will slosh that fuel around and starve the fuel pump. I think you have a great plan for your build. I'm a fan of fab rats and Colt and Ruddy's and I just became a fan of yours.

    In the U.K. jeep did a safety recall which required the fitting of a towbar or a bar without a receiver for crash protection of the fuel tank, I believe it was the same in the USA. The 3.7 l in the U.K. was rated to tow 3500 kg with a braked trailer ( over 7000lbs ) !!! The Jeep Liberty is known as the kj in Europe.

    I own a 2002 Jeep Liberty that is solid axle swapped. I would recommend if you do keep the stock fuel tank get a skid plate. Or do a fuel cell because the fuel pump is not attached very well to the inside of the tank.

    She is going to look awesome! Good idea to reuse the fuel cell making sure it is protected. 100% agree with leaving her enclosed. Like you said, spoil yourself abit and allow for heating and cooling when needed out on the trail. Thank you for sharing

  • @jcautodesign
    @jcautodesign 4 місяці тому +3

    For the fuel cell, just do the "tank tuck" with the stock tank. That's more of a realistic thing for someone with this budget (budjet) to do.
    Honestly, the other builds are cool, but they are just novelty. You are going to end up with something that will actually be worth driving and wheeling.
    Definitely watching to see how this turns out.

      Yes, especially since they removed the front cross car structure from the K-Member which is what adds a lot of torsional rigidity to the uni-body construction. That front member does more than just support the engine and is a major structural member keeping the body from twisting and getting out of square. There is a reason why they are a modified K or X in design so one has to plan things out so you can maintain structure before cutting into it.
      It will be interesting to see how they replace that structure to maintain integrity.
      Best!

    Glad you are going to make protection a priority for the fuel tank. The liberty was known to have issues with rear end collisions. I was lucky and had the factory trailer hitch installed, didnt have to add an aftermarket for protection. That is why it took me over 6 months to find a replacement 4 years after I traded off my first one. It had to have that factory trailer hitch package.

    This is so great! I'm soooo happy that the Liberty is getting some love. It makes me want do a quick walkaround video of mine to give you a reference point for how i modified the subframe and made room for the steering box. Mine is much, much smaller than yours is, but a similar idea. I spent $7K CAD on mine all said and done, but i didn't really touch the rear axle aside from 4.10s and a limited slip. If I had $20K to build mine, it would probably look a lot like Sheila tbh, so I think your budget is right on track.

    Hey Holly,
    In case you did not know, looking at your American flag from the shop it is backwards. The direction it is hanging the field of stars should be in the upper right corner. Not a huge deal, but it irks me when the US flag is displayed incorrectly. Love your channel and watching you wrench on things.

    • @MischiefMakerTV
      @MischiefMakerTV  4 місяці тому +5

      I think it's a huge deal...I reviewed U.S. Code Title 36, Chapter 10 closely before hanging the flag and it states - When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left. When displayed in a window, the flag should be displayed in the same way, with the union or blue field to the left of the observer in the street.
      Apparently a lot of people get this incorrect assuming the union should be to the OBSERVERS right.

    Gonna have to add more to your budget. I didn't see mention of either the front, or rear bumpers. HAVE to have a safe place for the winch and also tow points if needed, Front and rear. I dare say, plating and boxing is also going to be needed for the abuse this lil machine is going to be put through. Also, sounds like you are going with hydro-assist, but still have to factor in your steering linkage. I hope you are planning an Exo-cage to help protect the body lines and windows in case of a flop.

The liberty is the replacement for the xj I've owned many xj's and a few zj's but never a liberty i think this is an interesting build and a neat vehicle to start with. Im not too familiar with the liberty I've worked on a few of them but i don't know much about them. I think it is a neat platform to start from it could look pretty cool im excited to see this build. The straight axle swap is a definite must, also do people weld on frame stiffeners like with the xj unibody? I dont even remember what these have for running gear does it have a good engine and transmission is the t case any good? Im really curious to hear from liberty owners i know these have a following too.

I know you said no open top, but have you considered T-tops. The fabrication could be minimal, if you make clean cuts and the right weather proofing. That would be unique even in modified liberties. A grill delete with dippled grill. The trailer hitch was also there to protect the gas tank in a rear end collision. That is what I was told

      That certainly makes sense. The tank is really exposed without it on these rigs 🤣

    I haven’t seen much from you, and you weren’t on the live stream with all the other builders, but neither was bleep and Jeep. Not sure if you’re still still in this competition. But I am curious as to what you do with this platform as my adventure buddy who travels with me will eventually need her own rig and I’ve been looking at liberties because they are so low priced and yet they’re still fantastic option with a rock solid drivetrain.

      We did a separate live stream than the other 4 teams since we were the original competitors/teams from last year. You can find it here:

    I would leave the stock fuel tank and just modify it like you had talked about. Like others have said why spend the money on something that you already have

    Dont cut the top off, with a unibody, it require ALOT of strenting if you do it, and it not someting other then a master builder shoud do.

      That’s what cages are for. The body of the rig is basically just a covering for the cage at that point. It’s not something I consider complicated, but I’m also not going to spend the time or money needed to do that. This is a budget build and it needs to be off the lift by the first week of September.

    re using the stock fuel sell would save a bunch of $$$ that you could put to use ElseWare like an on-X system for liberty biberty . or a good sound system. better yet a tent off the back hatch. not that would be a wise investment
