I don't know what it is, but no other song makes me feel this way. I think this song is absolutely beautiful, but I can't bring myself to listen to it, because it makes me want to cry. Wallace represents how Sonny feels on the inside when he tries to express his feelings to Becky - beneath Sonny's leather jacket you can see he wears a letter jacket similar to the green one Wallace is wearing. Despite sitting on the bench, calmly chewing a toothpick, inside, Sonny feels small and daunted by the challenge of talking to the assertive and commanding Becky. Wallace, his dancing, the band - all metaphors for Sonny baring his heart to Becky... and then getting shot down, deflated in the end, to go sit alone on the bench. Good song, nice vid.

I just came across this video for the first time and was shocked when I heard the verse. Recognized Sonny Cheeba immediately. Camp Lo still making music after all these years without any commercial hits so it's good he got to shine on a song that was this successful.
@@poetparagraph I wonder why the song is credited with featuring Camp Lo when it’s just Sonny Cheeba on the verses. Geechi Suede is still in the group, right?

I wish you all the wildest success that is fitting, of what i have built you up to be in my head. More songs like this will get you there.
This is so odd. I just found the song Want Ads the other month ago by accident and thought “god this is such a dope ass song, that’s begging to be sampled” then I heard this song and thought “what is that sample? I swear I’ve heard that before.” I didn’t even put two and two together before reading your comment.
The reason it doesn’t get any radio play is because the radio stations only plays stuff that have the same sound as every other song that’s playing and/or very popular. This song is great but if it were to be on the radio it would be ruined by being overplayed by the radio stations just like every song that gets radio play.
*chuckle* There may be 9 songs sampled to make this track, but the FOUNDATION of it is The Honey Comb's "Want Ads." Without it, there would be no "Because of Me," at least not this version of it. It sounds just like "Want Ads" with rap added to it. Another thing... there are few things better than the original - this ain't one of them. 🙄
Man loves woman Woman doesn't love man back in her presence he feels like a child again But she wont pay him any attention He wants to show her how amazing he his / how strong he feels But he cant express himself properly because he's starstruck by her That's my interpretation of the video.
I have loved this song when it first came out and I’ve been listening to the avalanches since I was 14.. so glad seeing this video recirculate. They are a huge inspiration to me.
This was divine timing I never heard or seen this video. I love every bit of it. And someone already said the cute lil man does remind me of a young MJ too. 🙌✨💚✨🙌💕💚✨
Man do I love that new York trumpet/brass sound you hear sampled in hip-hop. Wish I knew what that style is called because it never fails to bring you up 🙌
For the Bonobo fans who might've recognized a bit in this song, Bonobo sampled 'Six Boys in Trouble Why Can't I Get It Too' in the song All In Forms on the Black Sands album. Six Boys in Trouble sampled The Avalanches - Because I'm Me. Hopefully this saved you the trip, I had a rough time figuring out why 1:40 seemed so familiar to me.
This is one of the dopest videos ever made. The track is superhot. The kid is sofa king adorable. The girl is super gorgeous. Everything about this video is a 10! 10's across the board!!!!
The instrumental in this is beyond amazing. I grew up listening to a radio station called CKLW. Although the station was in Windsor, Canada it was known as "The Motor City Station". If I were to sum up the sound of Detroit in the early 1970's I would point to this tune.
Anybody else just really love the feeling of this video? Like all these different people/street performers coming together spontaneously for this kid, and then one by one leaving before the girl could realise what happened. It's kinda melancholy, but it's really cool at the same time.
I think it's a metaphor for how you can be so crazy about someone and they don't even know. While all of that was going on (presumably in his head), she's oblivious to it. And of course, the heart inflating and deflating was symbolic.
This is one of my favorites by the avalanches, it amazes me more people don't know about them but it's always a treat showing someone for the first time
I love this soooo much, the whole vibe just takes me to the past and I can't exactly describe the place it takes me to, but it looks like cold cherry colas and milkshakes with whipped cream and the sun shining and the water glistening and the breeze blowing, idk but it takes me there and I wanna stay in that place forever
If she don't love me, what can I do? @@TachirosLament yup that's him...another fun fact is that his verse is the only new part of this video outside of the choreography of course....the actual song being sung is an old song from the early 1900s some kids from a Harlem building were recorded singing various songs...they only dropped one album together...I can't recall the name, but if I find it I'll edit my comment...if you get a chance prior to me coming back look it up....oh yea and the beat is new...but yea the kid is not really singing...the vocals are sampled
The shot at 1:53 is so iconic. You go boy!!
I love when this comes up in my feed every few months and I discover again how perfect it is in so many ways.
If anyone’s curious, this was shot at the Fordham Road subway station in Bronx, NY. Awesome song and video!
Incredible
Yep, yep...I know it well. Born in Harlem but raised in da boogie down BX
Fordham Baldies. The Wanderers
i live one stop from there and this song just reminds me of home and happiness whenever i’m bummed out
:). I love the Bronx but haven’t been there recently
i fell in love so fast
Natalia me too
natalia! ME TOO!!!
natalia! I KNOWWW OMG
your profile pic is so appropriate for this comment lol
This song sealed it for me. The Avalanches are one of the most creative acts that I've seen in my lifetime and we're all lucky to have found them.
This video slays. So subtle and beautiful
Jeffreys 5 5 yh t9yh in 5macbysorŕklin
The brass instruments are amazing!
Thank Honey Cone. Stick Up by them was what was sampled.
Fossil Actually it's "Want Ads" not "Stick Up"
I think this is the cutest thing that YT ever recommended to me.
@@unirod23 thanks man, I loved it too ❤️
I can't believe I am just seeing this fantastic video. What a great storyline and execution💋
I first heard this song live, in california at a casino, as opener, i thought nothing of it at first. I went cause of my girlfriend, it was an alternative concert and i dont even like alternative, I love electronic music lol. But this song, this band. they stand out. I wish you all the wildest success that is fitting, of what i have built you up to be in my head. More songs like this will get you there.
Jimmy Bish Alternative isn’t even a genre lol 👎🏻 alternative what? You can’t just call music “alternative” by itself.
Those last 3 sentences Jimmy. Very nice.
I mean you totally can. alternative is a genre.
the guys have been around since the 90s lol
No offense but how old are you? It's not as prominent now, but yes, it used to be a genre.
Straight excellence and much respect.
Since I Left You by the Avalanches is easily one of the greatest produced albums of all time the sampling in their tracks is insane
This isn’t from that album tho.
What did they sample that from? The vocals, I mean.
Six Boys in Trouble - Why Can't I Get It Too
Thanks!
In general if a sample is bugging you, samples are on whosampled.com its like an archive of loads of samples
To me the instrumental sample sounds like an old song "Want Ads."
is that the same voice in Bonobo - All in forms ?
Sampled from:
Six Boys In Trouble - Why Can't I Get It Too
The Honey Cone - Want Ads
thnx, alwas nice to remind people for the original artwork
I suspected it was sampled but its still a dope song.
This is so odd. I just found the song Want Ads the other month ago by accident and thought “god this is such a dope ass song, that’s begging to be sampled” then I heard this song and thought “what is that sample? I swear I’ve heard that before.” I didn’t even put two and two together before reading your comment.
@@lr8786 The album that this track is located on features over 3750 samples!
Obrigada, freezer
It's a shame stuff like this doesn't get radio play.
In Australia it does
Radio is dying anyway
The reason it doesn’t get any radio play is because the radio stations only plays stuff that have the same sound as every other song that’s playing and/or very popular. This song is great but if it were to be on the radio it would be ruined by being overplayed by the radio stations just like every song that gets radio play.
KiloCharlieOne too short of a song
My mom just sent me this song thanks mom
this video is the personification of what it means to feel and live music everyday as a part of your being.
This video is such a vibe, nostalgic feeling, like you’re taken back to a time of innocence and purity and soul the styling is so on point 👌🙈
Who knew that combining 9 songs could make one song that sounds better than all of them individually
Which 9 songs are those? From what I remember this song was sampled from one 70s song
@@jesseomollo9405 have a look on whosampled I think they're listed
*chuckle* There may be 9 songs sampled to make this track, but the FOUNDATION of it is The Honey Comb's "Want Ads." Without it, there would be no "Because of Me," at least not this version of it. It sounds just like "Want Ads" with rap added to it. Another thing... there are few things better than the original - this ain't one of them. 🙄
@@TheMercuryProject I will have a listen
@@Happy_Shopper You mean you never listened to the original songs that were sampled before you made that comment? 🤨 😑 😂😂😂
Just discovered this song on UA-cam out of nowhere and now I'm in a really really good mood because of it. What a song!
I know right! I just found this today. What cave have I been living in?
Yesssss!
I came here to say, I love when rappers go outside of the box with music videos. It shows a true artist
The Avalanches aren't rappers. Their entire discography consists of songs made entirely of samples.
Hate the rapping.
Man loves woman
Woman doesn't love man back
in her presence he feels like a child again
But she wont pay him any attention
He wants to show her how amazing he his / how strong he feels
But he cant express himself properly because he's starstruck by her
That's my interpretation of the video.
good analysis ;)
^^ me with the girl I like
headcanon accepted
Me too bro ^_^
OMG true!
Sean McPherson You are a genius! thank you sir!
All I want to know is why the singing parts sound like they were ripped from a VHS.
thats true, remembering all in forms bonobo
Oh my god....youre right...😍😍😍😍...thank you
well spotted
Absolutely refreshing! Thank you Universe. I needed this TODAY!!!
Amen brother 👍🏻😎
This is one of the dopest videos ever made. The track is superhot. The kid is sofa king adorable. The girl is super gorgeous. Everything about this video is a 10! 10's across the board!!!!
Cory Wright is that a drag race reference i see in there or nah??
Cory Wright you need to see the other one from them
More like an ATHF reference. No I ain't breaking down that acronym.
sofa king
I don't always want this song, but when I do, it absolutely nails the spot.
The instrumental in this is beyond amazing. I grew up listening to a radio station called CKLW. Although the station was in Windsor, Canada it was known as "The Motor City Station". If I were to sum up the sound of Detroit in the early 1970's I would point to this tune.
Me too. "The big 8"
Love this, this kid Salastole my heart…the whole thing, such creativity in every part of it.
Anybody else just really love the feeling of this video? Like all these different people/street performers coming together spontaneously for this kid, and then one by one leaving before the girl could realise what happened. It's kinda melancholy, but it's really cool at the same time.
Brennan Sullivan ✨I grew up in the Bronx and Fordham Road was always the area where I either took the bus or train ✨😬
I think it's a metaphor for how you can be so crazy about someone and they don't even know. While all of that was going on (presumably in his head), she's oblivious to it. And of course, the heart inflating and deflating was symbolic.
Brennan Sullivan they got other clip in black and white
I think you will love it to
It’s super old
The kid is the rapper inner child or the innocent lover in him....
That's like every Bollywood song ever!
Camp Lo....... Hell Yeah. The rap lyrics are out of this world, the rapper becomes a vocal Jazz Riff and melts into the chorus on the walk cycle....
I can't believe these guys are Aussies from "Melbin," what an incredible taste in music. I love the rest of their work as well. Come back and do more!
this kid is so talented loved his album
th3FT pUnK the kid didn't make the album
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Lord Peepee u don't say
this is so ¨The Get Down¨ ❤
the get down is so 70's
This is one of my favorites by the avalanches, it amazes me more people don't know about them but it's always a treat showing someone for the first time
I love this soooo much, the whole vibe just takes me to the past and I can't exactly describe the place it takes me to, but it looks like cold cherry colas and milkshakes with whipped cream and the sun shining and the water glistening and the breeze blowing, idk but it takes me there and I wanna stay in that place forever
I get you...
The Avalanches have the best music videos!
This video is made by a genius.
cinematography is just so good
it's just a regular one.
Something about this video just warms my heart. Adorable.
Takes a special artistic vision to create from samples alone...like they say..' Not the flower, but the root '...
