Correction: The Noldor DID go to Valinor, it's the Sindar that didn't. The Noldor chose to stay in Middle Earth rather than return but were obsessed with recreating Valinor in Middle Earth.
I think the wine he drank on the mountain top might have been Saurons blood. We might see him come back next season. I think Calebrimbor might be a similar case. Saurons blood was on the blade that killed him.
Gandalf speaks knowlngly to Pippin about the transition from the physical realm of Middle Earth to Valinor because he "lived" it at least twice by that point. In the early days of the world, as the maiar Olorin, he and other maiar were tasked by Manwe to guide the Elves from Middle Earth to Valinor. And in the 3rd Age, when his physical form lay broken on the top of the mountain after defeating the Balrog, his spirit was released and returned to Valinor. There he recovered for a long time. Per Gandalf, he "strayed out of though and time. The stars wheeled overhead, and everyday was as long as a life age of the Earth". Time passing differently for him there than in Middle Earth. Once he was recovered, he was sent back by Manwe as Gandalf the White to complete his task and turn the tide of the war against Sauron and Saruman.
1:01:32 Tolkien literally illustrated the Door of Durin himself. It would be insane for Jackson or even these chuckleheads to deviate from that design.
Thanks Erik Can’t resist asking you do these more often for shows that you don’t do weekly breakdowns for I’d really love to see one for wheel of time 🥹
I loved this season. I thought it was a big improvement on season 1. The music was amazing, it looked incredible, and the characters were more interesting. I'm pumped for season 3!
Omg I love your video and commentary and openess to talk and be considerate and thoughtful without the baiting hate narrative! Many thanks I'll def recommend this vid
You don’t think the writers would do it anyway? Haha they obviously have no respect for the source material. If they can bring the wizards in thousands of years too early, make up characters that don’t exist, change characters core values and traits, why not be able to say it’s the same treasure thousands of miles apart? Haha I usually like this guys videos, but he lost me when he said “when it comes to getting Tolkien right, they know what they’re doing” that’s just so far from being in anyway defendable.
I think the scene where Galadriel sees the orcish funeral ceremony is a great indicator of how Orcish culture will later degrade under Sauron, where they are actually just enthusiastically cannibalizing the bodies of their dead comrades.
I have a question.. In season 1, Orcs (Uruk's) couldn't go out in the sun. That's why they had their ditches and trenches covered with all the cloth. But now in this season it doesn't ever seem to be a problem for them. What's the deal?
They create all that smoke over Eregion to cover the sun and create a shadow. Does it sometimes seem that the Sun shines through? Yes, but they clearly make a point of obscuring the sun a number of times in these episodes.
@@quirkyjoeAnimatedliterally, pretty obvious the episode after the eruption as to why the trenches were dug to make this happen. 😂 so tired of these fanboys.
@@quirkyjoeAnimatedalso, there are moments when the sun comes through like when they are moving the equipment, you can see the pain in their expressions with several orcs crying out
Nah , you did an amazing job to help me appreciate this series more , and you’re right fans will always criticize and display there emotions onto everything else !
Yeah. I couldn't digest Galadriel, which is supposed to be a wise very old witch, just doing dumb things, which culminate in all problems and challenges they showed.
Nerd of The Rings called it... kemen has Mouth of Sauron written all over him, even the actors performance, he makes weird drastic mouth movements constantly..
It is not silly to get raw over characters in ridiculous costumes, at least I don’t think so. Especially when those emotions and thoughts speak to your own relationship with your departed father (may he rest in peace).
I think the wine Sauron gave Adar on the mountain top might have been his blood then the blade that kills Celebrimbor is also coated in his blood. I think they both might come back next season when Sauron mentioned he has ways to bring them back. Maybe alive or tainted in some way or maybe captured spirits.
That would break the lore so bad. I mean, not that they haven’t already so I guess it doesn’t matter lol. But no celebrimbore is dead and he should remain so. They already ruined his character, don’t take away the only thing they did get right haha. His spirt went to the halls of Mandos ❤
These soap opera writers are so desperate to make a love story in every episode, but they left out Celeborn who actually is supposed to be in Eregion at this time period. They just can't do anything right...
35:21 see i never thought that the scene with the uruk hai showed that one "hatching" from under the tree...i saw it as a form of torture plus nourishment of a fully grown orc buried under a tree in a magic womb type thing, suffering in solitary confinement but being nourished and grown through the energy of the tree...hence turning a normal orc into a levelled up uruk hai...since elves were taken and tortured and corrupted by morgoth to create orcs maybe the tree birth thing is the next level up to create uruk hai?
The only thing I found quite nice in the dialogues was a character (pretty sure it was Galadriel but I don’t remember) saying that "pity won’t defeat Sauron"… when that was exactly what did :D
One thing also to point out. Morgoth himself poured his corruption into Middle Earth itself (Morgoth's Ring). That is how Sauron is able to use his corruption, because it was already there to leverage. Also, the 3 Elven rings should have been created last, not first.
Overall I thought it was much more enjoyable than S1, the last three episodes in particular were great. Still have little to zero interest in anything happening with the Numenor storyline and the Harfoot stuff felt like it barely progressed at all but other than that I thought they did a nice job with everything else.
Currently watching and I’m about 15 minutes in. Let’s just acknowledge that the Elrond-Isildur Mount Doom scene wasn’t in the books. They invented that for the movie. Isildur just left the battlefield with the ring, there was no dramatic single moment of Isildur turning evil or whatever they were trying to imply there
In fact the whole “Aragorn being worried that he’s weak to temptation like his ancestor Isildur” is also some nonsense that Peter Jackson added for dramatic tension. It didn’t exist in the book, at all. It makes for good movie tension but it completely misses the whole point of the ring. The ring is purely evil and will corrupt literally anyone. Even Frodo (who apparently has by far the strongest natural resistance to the ring’s corruption) failed at the end and could not complete the mission by his own will. Saying “I’m vulnerable to the ring” is like saying “I’m vulnerable to bullets.”
Arondir going up like nothing happened in the final episode was pretty underwelming, not even a glimps of injury after being stabed by arrow and sword from Adar...
I truly loved this season. And i know there are a lot of critics out there that claim it's not faithful to Tolkien's stories... But i see The Lord of the Rings as exactly that. Stories told by unreliable narrators or storytellers. Tolkien created a world to let imagination run amuck. Every essential piece of these stories that create the world they are in stay faithful to the source, but everything else that may be a little off seems to be some sort of unreliable storyteller.
...didn't "take the crown to make it his own," he reforged the crown from the remains of Morgoth's. Subtle difference, but a difference nonetheless... he didn't take Morgoth's crown to wear it as-is.
Season 2 is atleast 20x better than Season 1.... The Elves story is especially great and also supported by a good recurring story of the dwarves & the numenorians .....But I don't like the harfoots & dark wizard plots....Overall they can still improve season 3 from this point
As per the lore Gil-Galad is the grand nephew of Galadriel & Galadriel is slightly older than Gil-Galad.... But in the show Benjamin Walker is way older than Morfydd Clark & his character is also looking older than Galadriel.... Even if we assume slow aging of elves, they should be looking similar age
1:03:25 The Noldor are not the elves that never went to Valinor, that was the Avari and some of the Telari who became the Sindarin elves, think you are getting the Noldor and the Nandor confused

small correction, Aüle isn't just specially revered by the dwarves, he's their creator

I loved watching this series and I am so happy to see this breakdown
Me too.
Celebrimbor did meet Sauron before saying the words "not of the flesh but over flesh" in season 1. Halbrand became his apprentice before that moment.
1:01:32 Tolkien literally illustrated the Door of Durin himself. It would be insane for Jackson or even these chuckleheads to deviate from that design.

How can it be the same gold horde of Smaug's. It's a completely different Dwarven realm. Lonely Mountain is on the other side of Mirkwood.

Celebrimbor met him as Halbrand. The corrupting phrase was something Halbrand influenced him into believing.
Adar presented with the trolley problem:
"Why is this a question?"
Can we agree that those master crafted rings by Celembrimbor look awful? Like you can get better ones from Temu....
One thing also to point out. Morgoth himself poured his corruption into Middle Earth itself (Morgoth's Ring). That is how Sauron is able to use his corruption, because it was already there to leverage.
Also, the 3 Elven rings should have been created last, not first.
