Oh my holy wow...I've never experienced "yin float" but I did with this! You already know how I feel about hatha so BRING IT. I frequently have upper back, neck, and shoulder pain and I think coming at it from multiple directions is so beneficial - the yin was DELICIOUS for relief in the moment, but the core strengthening, etc., to prevent it altogether would be fantastic. Companion practices that support each other towards the common goal.
Love that you received the yin float today Hannah! I know the hatha will get to the root cause and actually prevent neck and shoulder pain in the long run. Thanks for your encouraging comment.
Thank you Melissa for another lovely class. I really like your longer classes where you explain aspects of the poses and how they impact our bodies. Please keep doing that! I would love to have your more Yang class to strengthen upper body parts. Please just remember to tailor it to all levels so beginners may also benefit from it. Namaste! 🙏🙏
The nice thing about yin is we have more space to explain anatomy. Have you tried my hatha classes? I think they are accessible to all levels, let me know!
Ii did this yin class with a very congested neck and shoulders. I end this class feeling very relieved. I cannot imagine the relief your hatha yoga for neck and shoulders which you mentioned will give. You are indeed magical. Looking forward to that. God Bless you dear!
Hi Melissa. Thankyou. You are a Super Star! Yes please to all of the practices mentioned. 😅I feel the importance of both/and for healing the imbalances/elements. 🌱 I have nervous system dysregulation and issues with pelvic pain, shoulders, jaw. I move between restorative to Yin, and have been having days where I have the stamina and energy to do more strength and core. Yay! Those moments are liberating and expansive. They fill me with glimmers of joy, after extended health issues with Auto Immune disease. It has been a challenge, and I'm grateful for these days of stillness as well, knowing when to slow down. This is a huge leap of faith! I'm grateful for your classes and they always seem to be in alignment to meet me where I am at deeply transforming harmony to my inner outer world. You have been my Angel sent from the sky's above. 🤗🍃.
Hi Donna, I think this experience has allowed me to come to the realization of what works well in the context of yin and what does not for upper body (imho) I also get the importance (obviously given my class repertoire) of slow yoga with restorative, yin and yoga nidra... and to get to the root of pain we often need to build strength, slowly, sustainably over time.
Wonderful class as always. A resounding yes to more Hatha/Yang classes. As a runner I really appreciate the strengthening aspects of Hatha and the stress aspects of Yin. Thank you!
Thank you Melissa, I have not felt so spacious in my neck, chest and shoulders in a while 😊 Your guidance and explanations were excellent-really understood the poses on a deeper level when you talked about their effects. Training the upper body with hatha classes sounds good. Maybe a yin yang to both open up and strengthen 🤔
Thanks so much for your feedback. I think I'm coming to some conclusions about how I am willing/like to use yin yoga for the upper body and how I do not. So yes, I will put something together.
Hi Melissa! Thank you so much for this wonderful class! I have been recovering from a month-long sinus infection and bronchitis. After doing this class and a restorative yoga class for heart opening I feel so much better! I would definitely love a Hatha/yin class that builds the muscles and helps with posture. Some Hatha classes are to fast and too much for my body. I know you will get it just right!
Thank you for this wonderful gift / glimmer 💝 💖Just what I needed after a few days of a cold with sneezing and coughing to relax my sore shoulders and neck. After class I feel soooo relaxed 😊
Thank you for this class & yes a hatha class to help strengthen my core etc would be great. I still see the physio for shoulder pain - impingement and ACJ issues, so any help would be beneficial. Thank you for all you do & I love the poems too.
I was so stiff today and saved this class for today, I feel so good now and ready to go watch my granddaughter do her gymnastic performance! Thank You so Much
I think the reason yin classes for neck and shoulders work so well for me is that yin yoga soothes the mental tension that is also a cause for neck and shoulder pain. However, as you say, strengthening the muscle groups involved is crucial too.
Thank you for this class. Doing alot of research on Perimenopause and Post menopause and frozen shoulder is a very common theme amongst these women. So anything you can share is awesome! I have extreme shoulder pain, as well as other joints and find moving from restorative, to yin, and some hatha along with HRT has helped me tremendously!
Thank goodness for the awareness and advocacy coming out on frozen shoulder, peri menopause, menopause and HRT at this time. I wish that had been available to me when I went through frozen shoulder on both shoulders 3 years ago and 7 years prior to that. I will be doing a video on my experience with HRT soon and talking about frozen shoulder will be part of that experience. Joint health is so important, My yoga teaching has evolved a lot because of what I know now, that we just didn't know even 5 years ago.
Yes please ANYTHING for upper body. I am 70 with totally trashed shoulders from ski injuries. Had a not very successful revers replacement more than a year ago
Melissa that was amazing! I hear you dissing it as an approach for neck/shoulder pain and sure i do get it that problems can actually come from further up/down the chain so a hatha sess would be welcome, buuuuttt... Please dont underestimate the value of this one! Not everyone is as kinaesthetically aware as you, and this was literally awesome, finding out stuff about my lack of range of motion ive not realised in years of classes in all sorts of modalities. It's too easy to race through without awareness in even more moderate yang. Ive never realised a yin class could be so challenging, and ill be returning to it often to gauge the change.
This was just what I needed after hours working at a laptop and it was perfect - so effective, and I loved all the muscle physiology explanations. Thank you so much, Melissa 💕 and I would totally love a strengthening class for the posterior chain - that would be amazing!
I would love a more active class! I normally avoid yin yoga (because I get bored, mostly, it's a personal failing) but this video came up on my feed while I was experiencing back pain. You're right about it feeling better in the moment - I feel great right now! Would love to do more active work on my back and shoulders to keep that good feeling.
Thanks for your feedback. I would recommend my beginner yin classes, they have shorter holds. Also, lots of interest in a more active neck and shoulder class, so that will be coming.
Great sequence, melissa. Would love if you could incorporate some standing overhead stretches into your sequences? L:ike a sun salutation or mountain pose?
Gosh Melissa, I will look for your hatha class for neck and shoulders, however, I am 82 and in a Kundalini Awakening process so I am not always able to do the mor strenuous poses. But I will try. Thanks so much for your honest analysis. Much love, Namaste'
Hi Melissa first time here on your site I do almost exclusive yin yoga 7 days a week, ( Im 62) great class from dee in chilly north florida
@deidrekelly2338 thank you so much. Welcome :)

Well the nice thing about the hatha is that it will get to the core issue, rather than just providing temporary relief :)

Wonderful class as always. A resounding yes to more Hatha/Yang classes. As a runner I really appreciate the strengthening aspects of Hatha and the stress aspects of Yin. Thank you!

Will do!

This was different for neck & shoulders but, yes, I would love a new updated Hatha for neck and shoulders. Thank you.
@oceaneyes57 thank you so much. Will do :)

Perfectly perfect ❤

@penny6254 glad they work for you :)
Melissa, thank you for this yin class. My neck and back pain were gone even before the session was completely finished :)
You're so welcome! @yogablisswithlia

So glad it was supportive for you sweetiepea. Got your vote for a strengthening class for your posterior chain.
Yes please I want that class from you, hatha shoulder class.
Thanks Beth

So glad you enjoyed the class and thanks for the vote for the hatha.
Great sequence, melissa. Would love if you could incorporate some standing overhead stretches into your sequences? L:ike a sun salutation or mountain pose?
That is definitely in the realm of hatha... so yes, that would be what I was talking about creating that wasn't yin.
@@drmelissawest great, thank you
