awesome!!! I woke with a horrible headache this morning. I have spinal stenosis in my neck and lower back. this practice helped me release the tightness in my neck, shoulders, upper back and jaw tremendously. it was exactly what I needed today. namaste!
Best neck releasing practice I’ve ever found! Great for an artist that paints for 12 hours at a time sometimes! I also have “Military Neck “ …helps out so much! Thank you!!
Hi Aprille, This practice is very soothing and helps to open the body and have deep relaxation. The weather is very hot which makes every movement difficult. After the practice, I felt lighter and with an easiness towards movement. Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you for joining me Maria! Yin is a perfect practice for hot weather as it is cooling. Have you tried sitali cooling breath? I have a meditation with it in it along with a waterfall cooling visualization that might help with the heat. Thank you for joining me and I hope the weather gets cooler for you soon! Peace, Aprille
Fantastic set of poses & stretches - I am obsessed with using accupressure balls and love finding more ways to use them. I also have a neck knot the size of a walnut at least & I found it just as you mentioned it! My neck feels less sore after this. Will add this to my stretch arsenal 🙏🏼!!! Thank you!!!
You're so welcome! I LOVE acupressure balls too and they are SO handy for healing and preventing pain throughout the entire body. Have you checked out my myofascial classes on the channel using acupressure balls for different areas? Thank you for joining me and have a great day! Peace, Aprille
You are very welcome Bianca! I have a lot of TMJ clients and they talk about how their jaw holds immense tension and often causes migraines and sleepless nights. Whenever I do this roll out - I am also surprised at how much tension is in that area! Thank you and have a great day! Peace, Aprille
This. I needed this. Burst out in tears during the child's pose/thread needle portion. Definitely will be doing this class more often! Thank you Aprille, Namaste
I hope they were tears of joy or release? Thank you for joining me Catherine and I hope you continue to feel better! I know this is a super tight area for me as well and when it lets go - it is bliss! Have a wonderful day! Peace, Aprille
Yes, tears of joy as I have had a headache for almost a week now and nausea/lack of appetite because of it. Did this class again today, and probably will every other day until I feel back to normal again. Thank you so much
Good Morning, Aprille This was a beautiful class to release the tension in my neck, upper back, and shoulders. I will be doing this practice a couple of times a week. It was a great massage. I did not have a tennis balls so I used a soft core training ball and it was what I needed. I really liked the arm stretch with my head on the block it released tension in my shoulders. It is amazing on what relief you have in using a ball and block. Thanks so much ! Have a beaufiful weekend with your family! Linda
That's so great to hear Linda! I LOVE rolling out and stretching blended together and I find it very effective. Glad this helped and thank you for joining me! Have a wonderful weekend too! Namaste, Aprille
Having some issues with knots in these areas and dug out some tennis balls and got to work. I may be revisiting this a few times this week! Thank you as always!
This was an incredible class!! I loved rolling out the tension, it was like getting a massage. My daughter has scoliosis in her middle back and TMJ, so I will share this with her she is 16 and I have been telling her some yoga/yin may help.
Thank you Jennifer! Rolling out might help with any back pain or tightness she might get from the curve. Some research suggests that for Yin in particular to work better for scoliosis - you would hold the opposite curve side longer in a pose. So if her curve was to the right, she could try holding the stretches to or on the left a little longer (maybe a minute or so longer) to release the tension better. It will feel tighter on that side due to the curve but may help release the fascia to help realign. Just an idea! Thanks for joining me, I am glad you enjoyed it. Have a great day! Peace, Aprille (P.S. for TMJ, yoga will help release tension but the rolling out and the practicing of Lion's Breath would be very useful in softening the tension in the jaw overall).
You are very welcome and I hope this practice helped you feel better! Thank you for joining me and I hope to practice with you again very soon! Have a wonderful evening and sleep well! Peace & Namaste, Aprille 🙏🌜
Wooow that felt amazing, thank you so much Aprille 🙏🙏🙏❤️ I suffer for years now under my chronic occipital neuralgia shoulder/neck/head pain on the left side and this was the best practice I ever did in that area! And I tried a lot... Will try to come back to this practice as often as I can, because at the moment I have it weekly. So precious after that sleepless night I had, can't thank you enough!
I am so glad to hear this helped you feel better and I hope you continue to find relief! Stretching these areas can be very powerful as we tend to hold a lot of tension here which can cause headaches, muscle aches, and more. Wishing you health and healing and thank you for joining me today!
Amazing class! This is my goto when I have insane upper back pain. It also helped me immensely when I was having crazy jaw pain from stress and clenching. Thanks Aprille!
Thank you and I am so happy to hear this has helped you for several issues. Sending you lots of positive energy and wishing you a wonderful week! Peace, Aprille
OMG, what an amazing class, thank you so much for your channel and this class! i've had on.off migrane and tension headache for 4 days now, but this seems to have really helped the knots to melt away 😍!
I am so happy this helped! Thank you for sharing your time with me and I hope your headache stays away and you feel great! Wishing you a wonderful week ahead - Peace, Aprille
Hi Aprille: A perfectly beautiful and powerful class. It really hurt (so good??!!) and the next day I was sore especially in my rhomboids - like I had a massage. And really zapped my headache away. This will be one to use again and again. With all my thanks and 🙏 gratitude. A big hug to you and Miss Lucy. “See” you later!
Hello Denise - me too! I am always surprised by how much tension I hold in my upper back and neck no matter how often I roll out. Maybe that's my "holding" space for stress. I am so glad it helped your headache - I filmed this the week I was working to get rid of mine and after a week of trying things this is what eventually helped mine go away! Thank you for joining me and have a great day! Lucy says hello! Namaste, Aprille
Thanks so much for this! I've been realizing my neck is really tight and have been incorporating some qi gong stretches. Often have TMJ pain. Not as blissful as actual yoga, so was glad that you included some yin towards the end. The tennis balls in the sock work surprisingly well. I do yoga every day at the gym. Instructors do ask at the beginning of class what people want to work in. Since it is at a gym and people take pride in their non-yoga workouts, it's almost like a badge of honor to complain about your quads or glutes. No one ever asks for neck/shoulders/upper back/TMJ. I do think this practice helped---but at the very least, at least it recognized that our body doesn't begin below our neck. Regardless of what physical activities we do, we all walk around with our heads attached, so why is the very upper body so neglected? (We haven't worked on feet for ever in my gym classes, so I appreciate your video focusing on the foot as well.) You truly are holistic---in combining mind, body, and spirit and the entire body. For a second I got taken aback with the exercise with the ball on the block by the lower jaw. When you said to open your mouth, feel the hollow, and then put the ball there, I thought you meant to put the ball in your mouth---and was about to protest that I couldn't open my mouth that wide to contain the ball! A second later, I realized what you meant, but the image of myself doing this practice with a yellow tennis ball in my mouth kept me smiling throughout the practice!
You are welcome Ellen! I completely agree - people often forget about the neck/upper back/head but I think when you practice you should pay attention to the entire body from your feet to your head - that's holistic health. I have several clients with TMJ issues and migraines so I am very aware of how much this affects their lives. Thank you so much for your support and for your feedback as this definitely helps me understand how the practices are being received. I admit, reading your last paragraph gave me a smile too - I guess I never thought of that but will surely be more careful in my instructions next time to be clear on where exactly that ball should go! Have a wonderful weekend! Peace & Namaste, Aprille 🤗🌷😀
Hello Tina, I don't use foam rollers in my practices as they never seemed to get deep enough into the tissue. However, I do offer several more Yinspired practices as well as some myofascial release with tennis balls or acupressure balls which you might find helpful. Here's the playlist link below. ua-cam.com/play/PLEANtQwT0VrIp_1G7SEYlXifkdUBjJM2D.html I also offer more of these on my member site at theyogaranger.vhx.tv. Thanks for joining me and have a great day! Peace, Aprille
Love this video, I keep coming back to it to relieve my neck issues and have recently started grinding my teeth again at night. I still can't close my jaw completely, but it feels so much better! Thank you and Namaste
Thank you Catherine and I am so happy to hear this practice helps! Rolling out the jaw can be really beneficial to releasing this pressure and you can also try lions breath during the day to relieve the tension as well. Have a great day! Peace, Aprille 😊❤
This exercise is new to me. Very interesting and in the end I could feel the tissue and muscles tingeling. Certainly one to do more often. Thanks again!!
I finally did this video and wow, it was amazing! Thank you so much! I received your email about your new platform. First off: yay you! I'm so happy for you. Second, I will be signing up this weekend. I hope the website will play videos on my older iPhone. If it does, then I am all in for joining. Happy day and namaste.
I am SO happy you liked this practice! This is definitely a practice that covers areas where things often get cranky and I think it's super helpful to give it a deep focus. Thank you so much! It's definitely exciting and something I have been planning on for awhile. It is supposed to stream on any Apple, Android or tv/tablet device and so far it's worked on my iPad, Android phone and laptop. Let me know how it works as I habe a guy at VHX who might have answers to any issues. Have a wonderful week! ☺🙏❤❤❤
Thank you for this. I really appreciate it. Regarding the inability to get ones tongue to cooperate when trying to speak., I have that problem a lot I like to tell people that English is my second language, gibberish was my first. That's why I have trouble sometimes.
This is amazing, thank you so much for this practice. I've tried it a few times now and found a lot of neck and shoulder and headache relief. The Last pose with the rolled up blanket is super uncomfortable for my lower back, does this pose still work in the way you're presenting it in this vid if you take the blanket a bit higher and the shoulders are off the ground? Thank you so much!
You're so welcome! Great question Lila! It won't open the neck/throat space and upper shoulder space quite the same with the blanket up higher and the shoulders completely off the ground. I find sometimes that by using the blanket roll in the mid back, then the upper back (as shown in the video) and then with the shoulders off the floor I can open the full length of the spine more easily. You could also try a small towel or blanket rolled under your lower back for some support too to take some of the curve out for the lower back. Just a quick question - does your lower back still feel really uncomfortable a few hours later and is it painful during the pose? Yin is sometimes, actually more often than not, uncomfortable in the poses as it stretches out the connective tissue. Afterwards I find a light bit of residual discomfort but hours later, I definitely feel much more opening and length. Thanks for joining me and for your question - I hope that helps! Peace, Aprille
Exactly! Always wonderful when you can treat yourself with some yoga and breath work, right? Thanks for joining me and have a great week. Peace, Aprille
Today's Yinspired practice is for those of you who suffer from TMJ, jaw tension, upper back and neck knots. Blending Yin yoga poses, yoga stretches and myofascial release techniques, we get deep into the tissue (muscles and fascia) to release tension and bring relief. Join me! Namaste, Aprille 🌞
Stefan, this depends on what your life is like day to day and how much you feel you need yoga. Most people are good with 3-4x a week but I find shorter sessions everyday or one long and one shorter at least 5x a week to be what works best for me. A lot depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If it feels great to practice more...then do what works best for your body. Peace, Aprille 🙏☺
dear april i have big problem with tmj and my mouth start to sliding to one side.. so :), i found these posture excercises on the net which turns to be successful but i couldnt get totaly the second one, , what do i do with my shoulders while squeezing my inner tihgs... im not sure is it a yin practice but i will give them a chance and if you squeeze an explanation maybe, i will be grateful. thank you for all your amazing good work and meditations tambien ... see you soon , namaste
Eda, I would certainly try these exercises but I truly believe that TMJ is caused by overactive muscle tension and stress. Many people find their TMJ is stress related and is worse when they are under higher levels of stress. As for the exercises, the second exercise is gripping the block between the ankles and stacking shoulders over wrists as in tabletop and letting the chest fall between the shoulder blades and neck drop without active engagement. Essentially engaging your bottom half and letting your top half soften. I would recommend seeing a physical therapist for exact exercises to help relieve your TMJ or ask your dentist for suggestions (this is their world and would be able to tell you what might help). Jill Miller of TuneUp fitness suggests rolling out and my experience is that my clients with TMJ do best with consistent yoga and meditation practices and rolling out of the neck and jaw tension. I hope this helps and have a great day! Peace, Aprille
thank you for responding ,these seems a bit demode but can work , the wall standing position was difficult but gave a sudden awareness. actually the meilleur dentists even just give you a mouth pluk and let you go, so i will continue with yours and these hopefully.
Hello Aprill, I would appreciate if you could do a yin yoga sequence for fibromalgia pain concentrating in the lower back and neck/ shoulder area. I also cannot sit back on my ankles or sit on my knees. Thank you
This was exactly what I needed! Been having headaches for the past few days and I have tight jaw problems, and I feel so much better now. Thank you from one April to another Aprille 😊🙏🏼
Hello April! Lovely to meet another April on here. So sorry about your headaches but glad this practice helped some. I hope you have a relaxing, headache free day today and get some rest. Thank you for joining me - Peace, Aprille

Been doing this flow for more than a year now, but my dentist at the last checkup said this yoga may be making my tmj worse. I’m not quite sure how to feel about it, because whilst it has been extremely helpful in relieving my pain temporarily, my tmj flare ups are a lot worse than before. I’m very torn.
I always invite people to explore the poses - leaving some in or some out as necessary. If some of these movements in here aren't appropriate for you personally - that's okay too. Take care of yourself and listen to your intuition on what works best for you. Hopefully your dentist has some suggestions that are helpful for your TMJ issues (you might ask them for ideas or a referral to someone who might have ways to help you). Thanks for joining me and I wish you all the best!
so nice For me you are the most beautiful woman in the world and I want to tell you every day every moment because I'm crazy about you my love ... love u my doll aprille

This exercise is new to me. Very interesting and in the end I could feel the tissue and muscles tingeling. Certainly one to do more often. Thanks again!!
You're so welcome! Have a great week Kim! Peace, Aprille
This was amazing! My headache is gone, thank you so much!! 💜

Thank you so much for sharing! Really helped the tension I was holding in my neck and jaw. Relaxed enough now I could even go to sleep lol 🌞🍋

This was excellent!! I did not know I needed it so much 😃
Thank you for joining me today! Have a great weekend! Peace, Aprille 🙏💕

I hope it helped you feel much better! Thank you for joining me today and have a lovely weekend! Peace, Aprille
Omigosh, that was painful(!) 😂 Feel alot less tight in neck and back after though, so will stick with it. Thank you so much 🙏
Sometimes the rolling out is pretty shocking but amazing how well it works for overall mobility. Thank you for sticking with it and have a great week!
Thank you for this. I really appreciate it. Regarding the inability to get ones tongue to cooperate when trying to speak., I have that problem a lot I like to tell people that English is my second language, gibberish was my first. That's why I have trouble sometimes.
I love that explanation! Thank you for joining me today and have a great day! Peace, Aprille
Thanks so much. I came home from work with a headache after a stressful meeting and now it has gone! Who needs painkillers when you can do yoga?!
Join me! Namaste, Aprille 🌞
this revolution for my jaw i tell you :) thank you april
You are welcome Eda! Glad it helped and thank you for joining me today! Namaste, Aprille
Thank you
