    This video is super direct and helped perfectly. Fixed in the time it takes to turn on and off the vehicle. Just open the passenger side door and do it from there. 2 minutes tops.

    Thank you for this video. It worked like a charm on my 1999 Nissan Maxima. I had been dreading disassembling it from the inside, but this made it so simple.

    Hey Ed, I did exactly as you instructed - so easy, however, when it goes up now, the mast motor will run and makes a loud grinding sound for about 15 seconds then stops. On the down it works perfectly. What is the issue with the up continual running and grinding? I've taken it out again and reinstalled and still the same. How do I fix that? please let me know if you have some insight. Thank you.

    How do you get the nut to screw back on?

  • @Lovebug8910
    @Lovebug8910 28 днів тому

    Any help would be appreciated because I have been at it a while what am I missing? The antenna works just as the video shows but I can't get the nut to screw back on? Thank you

    • @Edburzminski
      @Edburzminski  28 днів тому

      Hey @Lovebug8910, the nut can be tricky. Double check to make sure the threads aren't stripped on the nut. If they are, you'll need to source a new/junkyard nut. If the nut is ok, you might have to get more threads to poke through the antenna hole so the nut gets a good bite. Turn your wheels all the way left to give you room to work. Expose the antenna/motor assembly from inside the wheel well by pulling out the rubber/plastic cover inside and toward the back of the wheel, well next to the antenna. It's held on with some flat push pins (or maybe screws, I don't remember). Loosen the mounting bolt holding up the antenna/motor assembly (hold it from the bottom because it will drop), push the motor assembly up with your left hand so the threads poke through the antenna hole as far as it will go (you should see more threads poking through the hole), then screw the nut on with your right hand (or have a helper hold the assembly for you). Screw the nut on tight enough to hold the assembly but not too tight yet. Work the mounting bolt inside the wheel well back into its hole and tighten it up, then tighten the antenna nut at the top. You might have to push and jiggle the mounting bolt a bit to get it back in its hole (a little cussing might help). Having to go so far as replacing the entire antenna/motor assembly can be a royal pain, so I hope this works out for you. Good luck with it.

    great video, but, your antenna was working already; i mean, it went up and down. Mine does not go up and down, so at the moment it could be the motor, or the relay. I think i might be able to hear the motor, so perhaps the plastic cable snapped. But, it could be broken and jamming something up? I would love it to be as easy as yours!

    • @Edburzminski
      @Edburzminski  3 роки тому

      Sorry to hear about yours not working. It could be a blown fuse. Mine was simple because the antenna went up but not down. Good luck with yours.

    Question here for you Ed - the mast on your 4Runner seemed to come up when you turned the ignition key - why are you replacing the mast if its coming up? My mast doesn't move up when the radio is turned on - in fact it doesn't move at all - the motor runs - assuming that I have broken teeth on my mast - but why would your mast extend up if that was the case? ;)

    • @Edburzminski
      @Edburzminski  3 роки тому +2

      Good question! The mast went up fine but it would not retract. I had to give the mast a push until the teeth grabbed the gear in the motor. A few teeth at the very end of the cable were broken so they didn't engage when fully extended. I suspect the momentum of the mast going up extended the mast cable past the good teeth and then it got stuck. If your teeth are broken such that the mast won't go up, then you might need to help the mast get started with a tug up until the unbroken teeth grab, and the mast should come right out as it did for me. Hope that clarifies. :-)

    Question. After installing, when I turn on, antenna extends fully, but motor continues to run for about 5 seconds. I hear the teeth clicking. I've re-installed a few times, same results.
    And Thank You for the Video!

    • @Edburzminski
      @Edburzminski  Рік тому

      I'm not sure about why your motor continues to run. Maybe something in the motor assembly? It's not for the faint of heart, but I removed the antenna/motor assembly and took it apart to see if I could fix it rather than replace. You can open the gearbox next to the motor and see what's going on in there. The only challenge is the antenna cable to the radio is connected to the motor, so you can't do the disassembly on a bench -- you have squat down by the wheel for the duration. After I did that, the motor still didn't work so I ended up replacing the entire motor with a new one from eBay.

    pretty frustrated, you're video was too simple, your antennae worked, which is not normal for people who have a BROKEN antennae! when i turned me key to the on position, no only did it not come up, no surprise, but i couldn't pull it up with pliers and a hammer! It was not coming out at all!!!!!
    You're overly simplistic video did not really have anything to do with real life! more than a little disappointed and perplexed.

    • @Edburzminski
      @Edburzminski  3 роки тому

      Your situation sounds frustrating. It’s not that my antenna worked, it did go up but would not retract without having to push it down. A few teeth at the very bottom of my mast cable were broken.
      Your situation sounds different. I hope you find a solution in a different video. There’s always the Chilton’s manual at a library, auto parts store or Amazon.
