In this video, I fix my antenna again with the Tacoma whip antenna. I took a different approach for this mod than the typical mod (cheaper). I got this idea from a facebooker named Cody Wolgamott and modified it further for the Tacoma whip antenna and other aftermarket antennas.

NOTE PLEASE READ: I did end up JB Welding that brass fitting to the stub. I noticed mine was coming loose when I accidentally bumped it during my last off road trip. I suggest using JB Weld and not super glue! I don't want you guys losing your shiny new antenna!
now you're thinking :)
Hey man, love your channel. Need help, how would I get the tube from the old antenna if my current antenna wont go up at all to begin with?
I am not too sure hmmm
I'm thinking if you carefully crush the stub, only by a few thousands of an inch this will create an interferance fit so it can't be pulled out easily
I literally paused doing this exact mod this month for the same reason. I figured I could do something like this. Now I have all the info. You’re a mind reader!
UA-cam reading your mind lol
Excellent as always. Hope you had a wonderful holiday with the family. All the best for the new year. God bless.
Thanks
Thanks for sharing. Good to know this option is out there. My antenna is currently stuck, but it is fortunately stuck in the fully extended position, so no complaints since it works for now. I’ve heard issues with these T4R auto antennas (and also heard mixed reviews on the replacement stubby ones), so thanks for a great, affordable solution.
No problem!! Stuck open isn’t a bad thing lol.
Wow! Awesome! I wish i would have seen this earlier. I ended up buying the $50 adapter on amazon instead. I hated my oem antannae.
There is another way to stop the antenna from moving when you turn the radio on. Behind the center console there is a cigarette pack sized box on the left hand side. It should be orange. If you unplug the connector attached to it the antenna won't move when you turn the radio on. There's a free trail tip. I still get perfect radio reception in the city.
Thx for the tip
Good to know. I’m a little confused on that location. Any more details? I want to check that out for when I need to do this replacement. Thanks!
@@eljefeslash If you remove the center console it will be to the left of the radio. It should be bright orange, and about the size of a pack of cigarettes. Pretty easy to see and get to.
It's been a minute Since i've tuned into your channel, last I heard you sold your 4Runner, is this a new 4Runner? or did you change your mind?
It was an April fools joke. Welcome back
@@PhoRunner you son of a! I can't believe I fell for it for THAT long 😭
Lmao sorry
Cool! Thank you. Did you know your 4runner has a 2nd antenna in the side rear glass?
Yes. On passenger side if I recall the plug
@@PhoRunner Is that a "gear Wrench" tap set? That's the one I have.

@@PhoRunner I did my antenna yesterday. I ran a #8-32 screw through the brass piece and locked it in my drill chuck, then spun that edge against 80 grit sand paper until it would fit into the antenna piece. Drilled & tapped. Used J&B weld, but where there are 4 small holes in the old antenna piece, I took a pointed punch and gentally hammered those in a little bit. Then added a little more J&B weld to the holes. Tested it tonight and it looks & works great! Thank you for the sharing that idea!
@@christopherbrown5338 very nice!!!
I would like to have a delete plug for ours. Ran my own radio station since 2002 due to the crap playlists on RF :D.
What do I do if I have an aftermarket head unit which won’t allow my broken stock antenna to come out? Thank you
Question for ya brother. I threw away the whole antenna mast away when it broke so I’m missing that metal sleeve. Without having to buy a whole new replacement mast, do you know roughly the diameter and length that little sleeve was? Thank you, much appreciated!!
2.5” length, .414” OD (10mm), .3375” ID (8.57mm) or similar to this knurled nut
Hope that helps.
Hey bro I seen ur old videos that you have pull out some rear lockers was wondering if u came across anymore thanks
Just that one and the one I have. Haven’t seen any since. Seems to be more rare now that folks know what to look for
Icic if you come across some rear lockers or know anyone that has one let me know . I live in Fresno ca too just bought a 4Runner and still working on it. Thanks bro
I just missed one at the junkyard the other day haha.
Since my power retraction motor is still working, could I still replace broken antenna with a new Toyota or Aftermarket retractable?
Yes check my other repair video on this topic. It goes over this
Hola . Cuanto cuesta una trasmicion 4runner 2002 automática 5vz gasolina .como podría para comprarla desde Panamá?
Thanks for sharing and really love your videos! Can I find you on IG?
I don’t really post but it’s @phorunner559
How does it connect to the wire that goes back to radio?
The factory wire should be left intact to connect the new antenna to the stereo
@@PhoRunner Where is the "factory wire" and what is it "left intact to" when a NEW ANTENNA is being installed. Didn't see this in your video??
The metal makes contact in the tube when you insert it back down the hole. The tube has connection to the wire and thus to the radio
Add tapping fluid to your tools list!
I got some ! Didn’t think the brass was hard lol
Is there anything you can do to make the antenna stick in place so it can’t be pulled out? Would glue cause interference with reception?
I don’t think so. So far it’s been working great
@@PhoRunner Did you glue the steel tube in place to prevent it from being pulled up and out?
I glued it so the adapter brass thing doesn’t come out. It can still be pulled out as a whole unit
I went to Lowe’s and grabbed a 5/8 OD-5/16 ID grommet and had to cut in half to shorten it I stuffed it in the end of the piece you pull of the 4runner (metal cap) then threaded the antenna through that and into the nut. Now it cannot be removed give it a try!
Interesting
Any links or recommendations on slotted rotors for this gen 4runner?
I don’t know any
@PhoRunner Channel you're running the 17in tundra wheels correct? No fitment issues?
@@mikenc1986 I'm running 17" TRD Pro wheels
@PhoRunner Channel those split stars are tundra/Sequoia wheels correct?
Yes they are
Wait so you don't have e to connect the antenna??
Nope. It uses existing connection via the tube
