Good overview. I'm doing this job now and the little nut from the ground wire fell out on to the ground and I didn't know where it came from or where it was supposed to go. Other videos didn't cover that part.
    Thanks!

That's where the school of hard knocks comes in. Take it all back apart...Hit the hardware store with the part the nut should go on...Voila! 18 cents and you're on your way with a lesson learned.

I see what the issue could be on mine, now that you've shown how the motor works. It must not be aligned at all. Because all I hear is grinding when powering the radio on/off, but no movement from the antenna, which is stuck at its highest point.
    Awesome work, thanks again.

Same thing on my 3rd gen, although its intermittent that grinding/screeching noise gets me some weird looks in public and drives me crazy

My parents' '86 Olds Firenza had a power antenna that quit retracting. I'm a fan of plain old mast antennas myself.

How did you bolt it back to the body? Looks like that body colored L bracket broke off the core support. I have the same issue

@@theotherguy3083Yes. Couldn’t see what you did to reinstall. Usually you have to remove the chrome ring before pulling the fender off, and the motor then stays on the core support when you pull the fender off.

By any chance do you know if there's an intake air temperature sensor on the right fender anywhere? Part number 89424 from Toyota I have a 97 4runner but I can't find it

    • @theotherguy3083

Check power supply to your motor. You might just have a short fuse, or bad connection. If those checks out, ohm your motor

There are other antennas on the vehicle but It does get WAY better reception with that front r fender mount antenna. What I dont like about it is it goes so high it looks like you're storm chasing. Way out of proportion...

Those things are pure antique junk. You have tricked out aftermarket parts on your truck, but your hanging on to a 30 year antannae.
