    No matter how many times I've read this book or listen to the audio version, it's still amazes me just how brave your mom and Aunt Helena during the Shoah. I've always wondered though, why your dad completely changed his name after the war? I also re-watched the movie version last night with Kelly Martin as your mom.. good movie but I prefer the book to it I just wish that I could have met Stefania and Helena before they passed away.. along with your dad.

    I am listening to the audio book again for the thousandth time..I'm glad that both Fusia and Max survived..but I am sad to know that Mr. and Mrs. Diamont passed away..but such was life during that time frame for a lot of the Jewish people. May they all rest in peace. I just hated that Fusia had Dementia at the end of her life (from what I read online somewhere). She died at the age of 97 years old on September 19, 2018. I also read that Helena has also since passed away as of December 5, 2022. Yet, I now can't find more information to find out if Helena has in fact died. L'Chiam= To Life. I am sorry if I misspelled that..I'm good with Hebrew and Yiddish..just not great typing it..

      That sounds a little more complicated. The gear on the motor might be shot, which finally happened to me. I had to replace the entire antenna motor/antenna assembly. Replacing the motor was fairly easy, but the antenna cable cannot be separated from the motor; the new cable has to be run all the way back to the radio, which was challenging.

  • @Shady78777
    @Shady78777 Рік тому

    Question. After installing, when I turn on, antenna extends fully, but motor continues to run for about 5 seconds. I hear the teeth clicking. I've re-installed a few times, same results. And Thank You for the Video!

    • @Edburzminski
      @Edburzminski Рік тому

      I'm not sure about why your motor continues to run. Maybe something in the motor assembly? It's not for the faint of heart, but I removed the antenna/motor assembly and took it apart to see if I could fix it rather than replace. You can open the gearbox next to the motor and see what's going on in there. The only challenge is the antenna cable to the radio is connected to the motor, so you can't do the disassembly on a bench -- you have squat down by the wheel for the duration. After I did that, the motor still didn't work so I ended up replacing the entire motor with a new one from eBay.

Like the story from the Holocaust survivor Andor Stern who tells that he saw his mother coming out from the crematorium chimney in Birkenau in Oct. 1944, that he was brought there in April 1944 and that he was there 13 months. In reality he was arrested on July 3rd 1944 in Hungary, brought to Auschwitz but transfered to the concentration camp Dachau where he arrived on July 27th (!) 1944 and was liberated by the Amis there!
