    I brought a 340 as I was on a budget. I had it for two months found a gold bracelet and ring which I was able to sell and that paid for my 540! Super great machine. I just put my 540 order in today. The machine found me so many clad coins, silver coins, earrings, a few rings so the 340 is definitely capable if anyone is starting out like I was. And only two months in I've already upgraded to the 540 with no money out of pocket.

      Get a pinpointer. Put it in coin mode and dig everything. Try doing this in each mode to learn it. Pinpoint buried coin sized objects with the tip of the coil. Move the coil side to side and backwards and when it stops beeping the object is right at the tip. But a handheld pinpointer is a must. The Vanquish hits hard on tiny brass and copper pieces and small gold and such.

      @@01BryanKeith The nice thing about the Vanquish detectors is the ease of use. But the 540 model is the best and has some great more advanced options and depth. It would be great on a beach. Notch out the low numbers if the low iron grunt sound happens a lot. Highly mineralized soil causes this. I think they notch out number 1 & 2 to solve this. I have the 340 and can`t really use the horseshoe relic mode without paying close attention to the lower numbers to try to weed out the falsing on minerals, so I typically use coin and jewelry mode only. It`s great for American coins and valuable metals. I used to use a metal detector to help me find scrap metal when prices were very high. Made a lot of money each day taking loads of metal to sell. Copper and brass adds up fast and even iron was bringing in great prices at one time. Great way to pay the bills or get a bottle of whiskey.

    Am a complete noob, wish I'd seen this video before my first ever outing today.
    All in all I'm pretty happy with the machine. I'm now a proud owner of 2 crooked rusty nails, a rusty iron wire and a rusty bottle cap, apparently my garden doesn't have much stuff, learned from the video a fair few tricks and that I should've kept it on high iron bias, the land used to be a horse ranch 50 years ago, so maybe I would've found a horse shoe.
    Next time I go to improve my detection skills I'll take some coins and jewelry to see what sounds and numbers it makes and from how far. Don't think I can test such stuff indoors, I have concrete floors and I think copper or aluminum floor heating + who knows what kind of stuff the builders left in it decades ago.

    • @NZDirtPirate
      @NZDirtPirate  2 роки тому

      Basically the factory setting is high iron bias which means in all metal you will find larger iron targets eg horseshoes, pressing and holding the horseshoe button until you see the little screw sets it to low iron bias.
      This setting will only allow smaller iron targets eg nails.
      Hopefully that helps, the rest is explained in the video

    This is a very helpful video. Really well done. It’s helped me get my head around the machine.If possible I’d like to pick your brain. I have a 540. If I’m in all metal I just get a response as I swing the coil. Maybe mineralization? I’ve tried a few variations with the set ups. Basically I end up having to turn the sensitivity way down to get a quiet set up. But I can tell this has left me with a machine way under capability. Yes there are pylons nearby. But as far as I’m aware I’ve been told this is a quiet machine? For me it isn’t. I’m hoping I’m dumb and don’t have it set up right. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you

      @@NZDirtPirate hi. Sorry about the confusion. I was going to put a “constant noise” but it’s not quite that. I guess the sound is ongoing rumbling of sorts. That typical iron low tone. Like a buzz, buzz buzz. This is in all metal btw.
      I’ve been reading about this. One guy said that it may be relic mode that is reacting to the minerals. What I need is maximum depth for this location. As I’ve skimmed the top layer with a lesser machine. I know there’s more under it. But I need the depth.
      Basically I have the relic mode set as is. With the iron bias. Per your video I’m now aware that if I get a high tone on one swing, then low on the other it’s likely iron. So that will solve me keep digging up iron.
      It’s just that I seem to have to really crank down the sensitivity more than I should. Seems almost three quarters down. Maybe it’s just the emi?
      So later I’m going to try jewelry mode, as although it’s not as deep as relic. It may end up deeper if I don’t get the interference then I can get max out sensitivity.
      I still feel I haven’t explained it all. Must say I have been confused. I got this nee the other day had high hopes but it’s been tricky. I just feel im not running it right, as opposed to it ‘not being any good’ kind of thing.
      Really appreciate the quick response! as im eager to try this out later. Cheers

      @@gamechanger2.09 yes please do.
      The difference in depth between relic and jewellery modes is not a lot.
      You could be correct high KV powerlines will cause a lot of EMI and also your ground maybe high in iron.
      Make sure you turn your detector on outside and have the coil in the air not on the ground.
      What targets are you trying to finds?

    • @gamechanger2.09
      @gamechanger2.09 Рік тому +1

      @@NZDirtPirate well I’ve been today. This time with what I feel is more understanding. Although whether I know the whole lot I don’t know. What did actually help the bleeping and chattering was if I notched out up to perhaps 8-9 (so +8-9) so discrimination from 8-9.
      I had the sensitivity much higher this time. Thing is I have been over this field/hill every which way. Found loads of stuff. The town was established mid 1800’s and the finds tell. I wasn’t sure if I was just getting down to the mid 1800’s layer, or if that’s all there was. What got me curious there would be deeper finds. Is that I found just one 1300’s silver coin. I put that down to fluke and that someone later on had acquired and dropped it.
      Well months later I found a broken third of a hammered coin. So that made me think there must be more. Well today was hard work. Thing is, it’s a hard learning curve there, as finds are sparse as I’ve been over this a lot. Saying that, I have pulled stuff up that shouldn’t be there in a way. So this detector is working. I just need to get some finds in and become used to it.
      Sometimes I get a high bleep, but it isn’t smooth and repeatable. The good finds are consistent in sound. I found only three things today. So not much. But two were very big buttons. Which makes me think much could have been missed. So what I’m really after is old silver coins. But I get the usual suspects of broken belt buckles, brass shells etc. tomorrow I’m going to a place far away from emi. So that should be a real litmus test. Basically I’m getting glimpses into this machines potential. As you know. You need confidence in its capabilities, to then just trust in it and swing for hours without a bleep if that’s how it goes. Also I tried the headphones out today.
      As for the sensitivity setting? How less capable do you think it becomes as you notch it down? I can imagine the first two segments or so aren’t a big deal? But how far can it go before it becomes detrimental?
      Thanks again for the insight.
