Guilty pleasure franchise for me. Has nothing to do with the games other than the virus and a few characters from the games. But the plot doesn't have to do with games. Still love it tho.

Marilyn Manson was one of the main composers for the score, and mentioned that he was trying to create a driving, relentless grinding sound combined with the aggression of the soldiers crashing through the mansion windows. He was TRYING to make us uncomfortable.

And from what I heard he used all synthesizers and no real instruments cause he wanted it to feel very mechanical and cold. An underrated score. I bought the soundtrack myself back in the day
The first time I watched this movie, I thought that the Red Queen was the enemy, but later on understanding that she was protecting them by containing the virus.
Hence why she killed the office workers with halon gas. The T-virus doesn’t work if you’re already dead but it was too late, it was in the ventilation.
Always been a fan of Resident Evil. Even though these films don’t really correlate with the video games (which are amazing) they’re still pretty entertaining to watch. The second film, Apocalypse, is my personal favorite of the franchise. Look forward to your journey into Raccoon City

From what I've seen Resident Evil is one of those cases of the first film being generally liked, it's the sequels people seem to have more than a list of problems with, games are loved though

The problem was Anderson just wanted to make one, then Sony wanted sequels and they got different directors, it got very cheesy, Anderson came back for number 4 and that was supposed to be final, with a happy ending, he says in the dvd comentaries) but once again, Sony wanted more, so he had to extend that ending into a cliffhanger for the next movie, after that, 5 and 6 were soooo Bad, he didn't even cared about continuity and sht, they ended up rebooting
They made Mila Jovovich's character specifically for the movies and she's not in the games: so that people that know the game appreciate the story, and people who don't can still enjoy it.
That didn't work. Alice is an awful character, the true definition of a Mary Sue, who gets more overpowered as the series goes on. They also gave all of the videogame characters best scenes to her, which pissed off the fans.
Except most people hate the character of Alice, got pissed off that they made the movies all about a fictional character, and made all the ACTUALLY loved character like Chris, Claire, Ada, Leon so on and so forth all side characters, and used generally the same plot points from several games without being faithful to it. Its the perfect example of a director having his head so far up his own and wifes (Milla) ass that he doeesnt respect the source material and makes a shit adaptation of it and instead makes it all about his wife.
Alice being the main character of these movies is kind of messed up considering it apparently was actually supposed to have Michelle Rodriguez as the main character, until Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson (who weren't married at the time) who according to Jovovich herself spent the weekend at a hotel "reworking Alice's role in the script".
I remember my aunt who was very religious taking my cousins and I to see this at the theater. She let us choose the movie. We were surprised, she actually liked the movie and it’s premise. That was a good day.
The hive was directly under umbrella city. It had two entrances; the train route and an elevator system going up to the city. You can see it when they're showing the 3d map at the beginning.

I really enjoyed RE1, I was a kid and my dad took me to see it because we had played the games on my PS1 so we were big fans. I also loved RE2 as well, Mike Epps is hands down my favorite part of it, but I do wish they stuck with the horror part of it. The films after RE2 are, well, we can call them, "Nice attempts". Lol
Yeah, first two were great. Third movie was bearable, but they seemed to lack any real direction from that point. It's like they were just doing stuff for the sake of doing stuff.
The elevator thing, trying to jump before impact is what you don’t want to do rather your supposed to get down as low as you can inside usually on your back. You’ll still get hurt but your odds of survival are higher.
Resident Evil Apocalypse is my personal favorite, I know nothing of the games but as a movie I like it. Then again I was young when these movies came out and not allowed to watch them because they were Rated R. So I don't know, to each their own🤷♀️
The beginning scene in Afterlife is one of my most favourite movie openings ever, from the song to the slowmotion in the tokyo city simulation...a masterpiece in cinematography. The movie itself is a bit meh compared to the first three tho. I remember watching Apocolyse the most as a kid bc I wanted to stop myself from being scared of the zombies in the stairwell at the start haha
Resident Evil 1 is a perfect stand alone movie that fits in with the lore of the games. It does not include any main characters from the games, and explains one of the venues the virus escaped from the lab. It also provides you with the origin of Nemesis, the most feared and favorite enemy in the games. While a couple of the following movies are both cool, and fun, they interfere with the complete storyline, and change things. For fun, you definitely need to watch the movie with the Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez commentary on. They laughingly talk about filming in Germany, and how they got access to a very exclusive leather fetish club in Germany, called the KitKat Club, and how they started a massive fight that got the police called and the club cleared and shut down for that evening. Good times.

Then there was silence during a scene from Milla and Michelle, as Mabius's character runs up in a panic to a slamming door and is looking frantically through the window and you just hear a quiet, questioning "Yogurt?" from Milla and both of them giggling.

Unrelated to the reaction, which I loved (as always): as a dog trainer I am sooo glad you picked a doberman. I fell like they got the wrong end of the stick as a dog breed. Fill him/her with love, show him /her what the rules are (doberman almost crave rules: they define the world, that can be incomprehensible and scary) and they will be your the perfect companion for any person. Love from Italy P.S. Some of them (not all) love Utilty and Defense.
One thing I learnt from getting a border collie is that some breeds NEED to have a strong set of rules to help them know what to do with themselves. With my border collie, she's such a stickler for rules that sometimes she invents her own (like she randomly decided that the treat I was giving her in the evenings was now something she wouldn't take unless she was told to do something first, she wanted to earn it, lol). One of the reasons dog breeds like dobermans get a bad reputation is that some people get dog breeds that they know nothing about, and screw up their training and care. If you understand your dogs needs, you can help shape them into the best version of themselves. ^_^
I had a doberman when I was little. He was very well trained to be my personal guard dog. He followed me everywhere. Such a good dog, I miss him still, 20 years later.
I remember the first time I played the RE game on grand old PSOne. Freaked me out playing that game on a dark and stormy night. And this film and the sequel are awesome. Those that follow, not so much.

As a huge Resident Evil fan from the older games primarily I absolutely loved this movie. It's actually not a bad film, let alone how much they did try with some creative liberties to stay relatively close to the games. Now, I can also say I've not really enjoyed the other Resident Evil films. I didn't like the 2nd one, and honestly not of the rest of the films. They turned into Action films.
I like the third one, "Extinction" the most. Mostly because of it's setting in the desert and is has a little bit of a road movie. And i liked the ending. Basically all of these movies are mediocre action zombie movies, many plotholes, not the best acting, somewhat cheesy here and there. But i won't lie, they are much entertaining nonetheless. And Milla Jovovich is always a joy to look at.
I'm pretty sure I've seen all the movies except the recent one. Never played the games or saw any animated version. I've enjoyed the ride in each film. Jovovich was a badass. The zombie trend really took hold after this. Ik there were ones prior, but no as many as after this came out.
Out of the survival horror genre, Silent Hill is my favorite. But resident evil is a close second. Both great games with somewhat good adaptations. Though I do recommend you check out the Silent Hill movie. It also has Sean Bean in it.
As much as this movie franchise fell apart, I still really love this first one. I saw it when it came out in theaters and it's just a really great movie. It's super tense and the scares and zombies are well done. I enjoyed the 2nd one, but not as much, and the 3rd was ok. They just get silly after that.
The movies in this series are pretty cool, but they remain low budget, which occasionally shows. They did a really good job with what is essentially a low budget project based loosely on a video game series.
This is utterly false. They did an abysmal job in everything other than the first movie. They couldn't even maintain a hint of continuity between movies.
@@IXSICNESS The first, second, and third movies do a reasonable job of continuity despite three different directors. The fourth, fifth and sixth films stop trying because those films were made at Sony's request. The story was already finished. So they had to start retconning and ignoring the films that came before to keep the ball rolling. The world was a Mad Max inspired desert in the third film. But this had to change for Afterlife because it was sequel time. At the end of the day, continuity isn't hugely important. Each film can be viewed largely standalone. You don't need to watch the five films before Final Chapter to understand Final Chapter. It helps ensure the films reach a wider audience.

The first movie is the best in this film series, second OK/fun, the sequels ehh Plus Michelle Rodriguez, I just like seeing her in action movies. Also this is the first Hollywood movie where the "zombies" were caused by a virus, unlike the classic films where it just happens.
Out of the whole franchise this is definitely my most favorite. It just has that tense claustrophobic atmosphere the first few games have and it’s just so nostalgic to me. The scoring by Marilyn Manson and Marco Beltrami is also badass

this is a surprise, didnt expect you to delve into this one tbh :D the first movie is good, they did well with it, so this deserves some credit, Mila Jovovich as the lead is perfect, the soundtrack is cool too :) though after this one it just keeps going down hill, worse and worse till the last movie, The Final Chapter, which is one of the worst movies ever made xD if you like this you could also check out DOOM if you havent seen that already, its a pretty cool sci-fi, action, horror movie with Dwayne Johnson :) if you wanna be scared of zombies then 28 Days Later is the way to go :D
That laser room all the lasers stoped at a certain point because you don’t want the lasers to cut the door so clinging to the door is your best option since the last one you can’t dodge
Marco Beltrami and Marilyn Manson did such a good job with the score. Not a common kind of score at all but it still works great to this day! Still creepy and yet, catchy and upbeat-ish.
I absolutely NEED to see your reactions to the rest of these RE movies, since you never played through all the different games. Usually you only get perspectives from people who have played the games and just sh!t all over these movies for not being a 1:1 recreation of the games, but it would be really cool to see an outside opinion...
I always enjoy these movies although I haven’t seen past number four. This and number 2 are my faves. I love the practical effects on the zombie Dobermans - in the audio commentary (which is absolutely worth listening to btw) they said it was spaghetti. I keep thinking how well trained those dogs must have been to let themselves be slathered in food and not just lick it all off!
There is no shortage of reasons to dislike this movie, not least for outrageously deviating almost unrecognizably from the source material, but in spite of it all, I've always liked this movie, and I don't quite know why lol
Funnily enough, as much as I dislike this movie, accuracy wasn't a problem for me at all. By almost completely divorcing itself from any of the games' events, it doesn't have any room to mess things up, lmao
This one isn't necessarily good, but compared to its sequels, it's not *that* bad. Just beware the 6th and final film _"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter."_ Not only does it basically contradict the whole franchise, but the editing in that film is an epileptic's worst nightmare.

First film is a guilty pleasure I think its a genuinely watchable movie that doesn't tread too heavily on the foot of the original games. The hive is a cool setting and the red queen is an interesting secondary antagonist, not to mention the great theme song.
Your best chance of surviving a fall in an elevator is actually to lay flat on your back to spread out the impack zone on your body as much as possible, protect the back of your head with clothing and other items as much as possible then brace for impact

I couldn’t in good conscience call it a good movie. But James Cameron considers it one of his guilty pleasures, so that stands for something. And it is a fun watch either way, but it’s a fairly sub-par adaptation, to put it politely.
I like RE: Extinction because it takes place in a bright desert, that's unique for a zombie movie. The first resident evil movie Resurrected the zombie film franchise, it had been dead for 10-15 years before this came out.

Never jump before the elevator hits the ground. You will break every bone in your legs and feet. Just lay flat on the ground. Your inertia doesn't change by jumping before it stops. You will still massively decelerated by the elevator but if you lie flat on the ground then that force will be equally applied to your whole body.
I dont think you are correct. The problem with jumping is that you don't know WHEN to jump, making it impossible to time it right. But let's say you hit the perfect point to jump, then your jump speed subtracts from the falling speed of the elevator and you could be mostly fine (or at least alive) - depending on how fast the elevator falls. Now to the laying flat theory: this is always a bad idea. You risk head injuries when the elevator hits the ground. It's better to break your legs than to break your skull

Please react to The Crow (1994), Brandon Lee is the lead actor he is the son of Bruce Lee, it’s an amazing movie. This is Brandon Lee tragic performance, Lee got shot with pieces of residue from a blank bullet still stuck in the chamber of the prop gun, the prop crew didn’t clean the gun and didn’t check if the gun still had any residue which it did. The director and crew and actors all though that the scene went as planned but they saw Brandon on ground for a couple of minutes they thought he was playing a joke or something but he wasn’t, they walk towards him and turn him and see that Brandon was really shot for real so they rushed him to the hospital where doctors performed surgery but after they told the crew that Brandon Lee had passed away on March 31, 1993 Brandon Lee was only 28 years old. They still went ahead and finished the movie but some scenes are not Brandon they used his body double to finish the movie but they CGI his face.
its funny how you keep mentioning it has a more than usual horror feel. the actual game was the game to define the genre "survival horror" which is how it became an iconic game. the game really was scary to play, you were cautious of every corner, you had to manage your ammunition, you couldn't just blast your way through everything. and of course, crazy jump scares.
I absolutely love these movies, they don't follow the plot of the games, but they do borrow elements of them, and tell their own story, so I enjoy them for what they are. Fun action movies with some horror aspects
1st movie was loosely based on the first game but focused more on the hive than the mansion 2nd movie was a mixture of the 2nd and 3rd game after the second movie there is no reference to the games at all
The Resident Evil film series is definitely a guilty pleasure. I personally also never played the games so I went into this without expectations and definitely got entertained. None of the movies really shoot above their expecations but it also isn't nessecary. Each of the movies is enjoyable to watch and personally Resident Evil: Afterlife is probably my favorite. There are also a lot of twists and turns the film series takes which you wouldn't expect.
The 2021 reboot called Resident Evil welcome to Racoon City is more closely based on the story featured in the first two games where the original movie did not and focused on Alice who is not in the games, this reboot has nothing to do with the story featured in the previous movies
I view the resident evils movies like marvel multiverse. Its just an alternative universe same concept just different like parrell universes or different earths in marvel

The new Resident Evil movie coming out soon is a prequel and based on the first game. I got so hyped when I saw the scene with the hallway and the first zombie they see.
As a huge fan of the games, the only way I can get any enjoyment out of these is to think that it's an alternate universe timeline. lol. The first couple are aight, then it just gets ridiculous. The editing in the last couple, jaysus. But, I hope you enjoy them, man.

I can agree with that. I know a lot of people hate these movies but i just like them for what they are. They're stand alone movies for me

The beginning scene in Afterlife is one of my most favourite movie openings ever, from the song to the slowmotion in the tokyo city simulation...a masterpiece in cinematography. The movie itself is a bit meh compared to the first three tho. I remember watching Apocolyse the most as a kid bc I wanted to stop myself from being scared of the zombies in the stairwell at the start haha
Resident Evil 1 is a perfect stand alone movie that fits in with the lore of the games. It does not include any main characters from the games, and explains one of the venues the virus escaped from the lab. It also provides you with the origin of Nemesis, the most feared and favorite enemy in the games. While a couple of the following movies are both cool, and fun, they interfere with the complete storyline, and change things. For fun, you definitely need to watch the movie with the Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez commentary on. They laughingly talk about filming in Germany, and how they got access to a very exclusive leather fetish club in Germany, called the KitKat Club, and how they started a massive fight that got the police called and the club cleared and shut down for that evening. Good times.
And the "Beware of Mines" signs that Michelle kept seeing around the property 😂😂

They had made half a dozen cracks about him and yogurt in the commentary. Then there was silence during a scene from Milla and Michelle, as Mabius's character runs up in a panic to a slamming door and is looking frantically through the window and you just hear a quiet, questioning "Yogurt?" from Milla and both of them giggling.

Unrelated to the reaction, which I loved (as always): as a dog trainer I am sooo glad you picked a doberman. I fell like they got the wrong end of the stick as a dog breed. Fill him/her with love, show him /her what the rules are (doberman almost crave rules: they define the world, that can be incomprehensible and scary) and they will be your the perfect companion for any person.

One thing I learnt from getting a border collie is that some breeds NEED to have a strong set of rules to help them know what to do with themselves. With my border collie, she's such a stickler for rules that sometimes she invents her own (like she randomly decided that the treat I was giving her in the evenings was now something she wouldn't take unless she was told to do something first, she wanted to earn it, lol).
One of the reasons dog breeds like dobermans get a bad reputation is that some people get dog breeds that they know nothing about, and screw up their training and care. If you understand your dogs needs, you can help shape them into the best version of themselves. ^_^
I had a doberman when I was little. He was very well trained to be my personal guard dog. He followed me everywhere. Such a good dog, I miss him still, 20 years later.
I remember the first time I played the RE game on grand old PSOne. Freaked me out playing that game on a dark and stormy night.
And this film and the sequel are awesome. Those that follow, not so much.

As a huge Resident Evil fan from the older games primarily I absolutely loved this movie. It's actually not a bad film, let alone how much they did try with some creative liberties to stay relatively close to the games. Now, I can also say I've not really enjoyed the other Resident Evil films. I didn't like the 2nd one, and honestly not of the rest of the films. They turned into Action films.
I like the third one, "Extinction" the most. Mostly because of it's setting in the desert and is has a little bit of a road movie. And i liked the ending. Basically all of these movies are mediocre action zombie movies, many plotholes, not the best acting, somewhat cheesy here and there. But i won't lie, they are much entertaining nonetheless. And Milla Jovovich is always a joy to look at.
I don't know how they were received but I have a marathon every year or so. I love these.
First film is definitely the best of the franchise, keeping elements of the game while doing its own thing. I can appreciate it for what it is lol
I'm pretty sure I've seen all the movies except the recent one. Never played the games or saw any animated version. I've enjoyed the ride in each film. Jovovich was a badass. The zombie trend really took hold after this. Ik there were ones prior, but no as many as after this came out.

Out of the survival horror genre, Silent Hill is my favorite. But resident evil is a close second. Both great games with somewhat good adaptations. Though I do recommend you check out the Silent Hill movie. It also has Sean Bean in it.
As much as this movie franchise fell apart, I still really love this first one. I saw it when it came out in theaters and it's just a really great movie. It's super tense and the scares and zombies are well done. I enjoyed the 2nd one, but not as much, and the 3rd was ok. They just get silly after that.
The movies in this series are pretty cool, but they remain low budget, which occasionally shows. They did a really good job with what is essentially a low budget project based loosely on a video game series.
This is utterly false. They did an abysmal job in everything other than the first movie. They couldn't even maintain a hint of continuity between movies.
@@IXSICNESS The first, second, and third movies do a reasonable job of continuity despite three different directors. The fourth, fifth and sixth films stop trying because those films were made at Sony's request. The story was already finished. So they had to start retconning and ignoring the films that came before to keep the ball rolling. The world was a Mad Max inspired desert in the third film. But this had to change for Afterlife because it was sequel time.
At the end of the day, continuity isn't hugely important. Each film can be viewed largely standalone. You don't need to watch the five films before Final Chapter to understand Final Chapter. It helps ensure the films reach a wider audience.

Out of the whole franchise this is definitely my most favorite. It just has that tense claustrophobic atmosphere the first few games have and it’s just so nostalgic to me. The scoring by Marilyn Manson and Marco Beltrami is also badass

this is a surprise, didnt expect you to delve into this one tbh :D the first movie is good, they did well with it, so this deserves some credit, Mila Jovovich as the lead is perfect, the soundtrack is cool too :) though after this one it just keeps going down hill, worse and worse till the last movie, The Final Chapter, which is one of the worst movies ever made xD if you like this you could also check out DOOM if you havent seen that already, its a pretty cool sci-fi, action, horror movie with Dwayne Johnson :) if you wanna be scared of zombies then 28 Days Later is the way to go :D

I always enjoy these movies although I haven’t seen past number four. This and number 2 are my faves. I love the practical effects on the zombie Dobermans - in the audio commentary (which is absolutely worth listening to btw) they said it was spaghetti. I keep thinking how well trained those dogs must have been to let themselves be slathered in food and not just lick it all off!

Just beware the 6th and final film _"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter."_ Not only does it basically contradict the whole franchise, but the editing in that film is an epileptic's worst nightmare.

First film is a guilty pleasure I think its a genuinely watchable movie that doesn't tread too heavily on the foot of the original games.
The hive is a cool setting and the red queen is an interesting secondary antagonist, not to mention the great theme song.
Your best chance of surviving a fall in an elevator is actually to lay flat on your back to spread out the impack zone on your body as much as possible, protect the back of your head with clothing and other items as much as possible then brace for impact

I couldn’t in good conscience call it a good movie. But James Cameron considers it one of his guilty pleasures, so that stands for something. And it is a fun watch either way, but it’s a fairly sub-par adaptation, to put it politely.
Cameron also said he liked Terminator Genysis, which proves that his tastes are questionable at best.
The games are absolutely amazing, except maybe 5 and 6. The movies aren’t that great but I still find them entertaining
2 and 4 are probably my favorites of this series
I like RE: Extinction because it takes place in a bright desert, that's unique for a zombie movie. The first resident evil movie Resurrected the zombie film franchise, it had been dead for 10-15 years before this came out.
great reaction, I love 4 of the 6 movies in this franchise and like the other two quite a bit, these movies don't follow the game storyline at all, there is a new Resident Evil franchise starting this year(or early next year) that will follow the games

Never jump before the elevator hits the ground. You will break every bone in your legs and feet.
Just lay flat on the ground. Your inertia doesn't change by jumping before it stops. You will still massively decelerated by the elevator but if you lie flat on the ground then that force will be equally applied to your whole body.

I dont think you are correct. The problem with jumping is that you don't know WHEN to jump, making it impossible to time it right. But let's say you hit the perfect point to jump, then your jump speed subtracts from the falling speed of the elevator and you could be mostly fine (or at least alive) - depending on how fast the elevator falls.
Now to the laying flat theory: this is always a bad idea. You risk head injuries when the elevator hits the ground. It's better to break your legs than to break your skull

The films are a guilty pleasure for me. I enjoyed the first few games until they changed into more action shooter games. They have recently moved away from that and are more horror again so I've gotten back into them
This is my guilty pleasure movie. Even last year Academy Award filmmaker James Cameron called this 2002 original his guilty pleasure when he watched it during the lockdown due to the pandemic.
I recommend that you play the games (most are excellent). this film only takes the concept but apart from that, it does not adapt any game

This is Brandon Lee tragic performance, Lee got shot with pieces of residue from a blank bullet still stuck in the chamber of the prop gun, the prop crew didn’t clean the gun and didn’t check if the gun still had any residue which it did. The director and crew and actors all though that the scene went as planned but they saw Brandon on ground for a couple of minutes they thought he was playing a joke or something but he wasn’t, they walk towards him and turn him and see that Brandon was really shot for real so they rushed him to the hospital where doctors performed surgery but after they told the crew that Brandon Lee had passed away on March 31, 1993 Brandon Lee was only 28 years old. They still went ahead and finished the movie but some scenes are not Brandon they used his body double to finish the movie but they CGI his face.

its funny how you keep mentioning it has a more than usual horror feel. the actual game was the game to define the genre "survival horror" which is how it became an iconic game. the game really was scary to play, you were cautious of every corner, you had to manage your ammunition, you couldn't just blast your way through everything. and of course, crazy jump scares.
I absolutely love these movies, they don't follow the plot of the games, but they do borrow elements of them, and tell their own story, so I enjoy them for what they are. Fun action movies with some horror aspects
1st movie was loosely based on the first game but focused more on the hive than the mansion
2nd movie was a mixture of the 2nd and 3rd game
after the second movie there is no reference to the games at all
The Resident Evil film series is definitely a guilty pleasure. I personally also never played the games so I went into this without expectations and definitely got entertained. None of the movies really shoot above their expecations but it also isn't nessecary. Each of the movies is enjoyable to watch and personally Resident Evil: Afterlife is probably my favorite.
There are also a lot of twists and turns the film series takes which you wouldn't expect.

The 2021 reboot called Resident Evil welcome to Racoon City is more closely based on the story featured in the first two games where the original movie did not and focused on Alice who is not in the games, this reboot has nothing to do with the story featured in the previous movies

The new Resident Evil movie coming out soon is a prequel and based on the first game. I got so hyped when I saw the scene with the hallway and the first zombie they see.
In the book it describes those in the elevator didn’t died from the drop but were asphyxiated.

As a huge fan of the games, the only way I can get any enjoyment out of these is to think that it's an alternate universe timeline. lol. The first couple are aight, then it just gets ridiculous. The editing in the last couple, jaysus. But, I hope you enjoy them, man.
