Hey there.. I‘ve been watching your videos for a while and - as a true trekkie since my childhood - I‘m so delighted to see someone reacting to the old Star Trek movies. That is a rare thing. Especially in these days, when many younger viewers grow up with the quick paced, CGI overloaded productions. Nothing against fast editing and CGI in general, but it‘s always the right mixture of course which is best.
Again, thanks a lot for some respectful, entertaining reactions to the old movies.
My further recommendation (from the 90ies) is ‚First Contact‘.
If you need some specific suggestions for essential Star Trek episodes (in my humble opinion), let me know :) Keep up
      the great work !

Funny story. While we knew who was the good guy and who was the bad terminator the week before the movies release, my friends and I thought they were going to do something else for months leading up to the movies release because of a misunderstanding watching an early trailer for the movie(Not the final trailer, but the “This time….there are TWO of them” one). We thought they were setting up for Arnold to play duel roles as two different terminators. One good, and one bad. They were so big on hyping the groundbreaking special effects in the T-1000 right before the movie though that it kinda spoiled the surprise even if you didn’t watch the trailers.

      @CoffeeMatt10 2 роки тому +3

The extended/deleted scenes aren’t out of place and I don’t think they affect the pacing like people claim.
Sarah’s dream of Reece is the catalyst for her escape attempt, and it’s a scene that takes place before the T-1000 acquires John, so the pace hasn’t picked up yet.
“What’s wrong with Wolfie?”, “Wolfie’s just fine”. Checks the dog’s name tag - Max. We see where T-1000 realises he’s given his plan away.
Resetting the T-800 cpu gives more context to how he learns to blend in more and not be so “robotic”, and it happens after they have escaped the T-1000 so they have respite, the pace at that point has slowed down anyway.
The final showdown where we see the T-1000 glitching, the moment when he confronts John and Sarah appears behind him, John looks at the T-1000s feet and sees they have glitched to the floor, making it easier to identify who’s who.
So for me, those scenes give a little bit more context and don’t really hurt the pace of the movie. The alternate ending is an interesting touch, but I prefer the original ending.

Definitely, the extreme edition is my favorite version. It adds a few scenes but I feel they add even more depth to the film. A few of my favorite scenes being; after Silberman tells the guards that he doesn't like patients messing up their rooms, where we get to see some of their abuse of her, but the scene after we get a dream sequence with Kyle Reese in it. Another scene is where Dyson is working on stuff, and his wife comes to talk to him and he talks a bit about why he making the chip and what it could be used for, and she and the kids convince him to stop working for the day so they can go to a waterpark. In another scene, John and arnie are talking about him learning, and arnie says that his chip's learning protocol thing is shut off. So they open his head up and take the chip out and Sarah almost crushes the chip and john convinces her to not to destroy it. They then flip the switch on the chip and put it back in. There are a few other scenes that I feel help the film in little tiny ways (not that the movie at all needs it), while not overly sacrificing the pacing.

The extended version had the T-1000 going out of control of his copying after getting frozen at the end, which is better, I think. In the theatrical there's no real reason they are able to kill him easier or figure out he was copying Sarah except "love" or something. I also like the T-1000's gentle search of John's room, it really makes him more distinct and stealthy from the T-800. Scarier in a very different way. I don't really care about the chip surgery scene, it doesn't really add anything except a great practical effect. The smile scene and Sarah's Kyle Reese hallucination are 100% superfluous and dumb.

@@fastertove If you took out every scene that aren’t necessarily needed for the story to remain functional for every movie, most of them would end up a lot worse. Often at times, it’s the little scenes that ground the characters and the world they inhabit. To me, it’s less about “is it needed” but rather “does it add anything of value”. In this instance, sure, this scene isn’t needed for the story to stay functional, but not only does it add further explanation into how the Terminator functions that matches the original better, but it also recontextualizes Sarah’s relationship with the Terminator in this film. The chip removal scene shows Sarah actually trying to destroy the Terminator the first chance she gets. It shows that she still sees it as a mindless killing machine and outright hates it, where as in the theatrical version, it just makes her seem vaguely skeptical of the Terminator. It adds more payoff to the moment at the end when Sarah chooses to shake hands with the Terminator, showing how far she’s come going from viewing him as the enemy to accepting him as a friend. The movie technically doesn’t “need” this scene, but for me, it works better with it than without it.

@@Gavrev my main issues with them is their combined creative bankruptcy and obvious attempts at being little more than franchise cash ins.
While T3 is pretty lackadaisical, I really do think the ending is fantastic.
Salvation is boring, morose and charmless. Genysis is more a badly written, badly cast hot mess of everything we've seen before and Dark Fate - well, once again lots of things we've seen before combined with an utterly toothless antagonist (partly because we've seen it all before) that seemingly goes out of it's way to not kill the people it's hunting while still managing to kill lots of people. T1 and T2 are incredibly tight in that regard. The antagonist terminators behave like infiltration units - their interactions outside of their targets are pretty limited other than where necessary to get to them, and there was always the feeling that they were trying to kill them, and anyone caught in the crossfire was just collateral as opposed to an excuse for an action sequence. More I'd say of DF I can't without spoilers, but it played out almost exactly as expected in most aspects.
It doesn't help of course that the first film was so unique and Judgment Day was so very expertly crafted - but there's a point where a franchise just runs out of steam (usually when it just becomes a cash cow), and that point was T3 for me.
I'd argue that Sarah Connor Chronicles was far superior than the rest of the sequels.

"I actually think the movie stands. I didn't feel a compelling need to change anything editing-wise other than to just get it to the highest possible standard of color and picture and everything else" - James Cameron
It's really not that uncommon that the Theatrical Cut is the Director's true vision. Ridley Scott was essentially TOLD to make the "Director's Cut" of Alien and the end result is something he's stated isn't his intended vision and overall hurt the pacing

@@jaybird8192 Tbf I never said my preference of T2 and my favorite film of all time is Fellowship of the Ring Extended. You shouldn't take the most extreme example of a Director's Cut as an explanation of why 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 are vital to the intended vision. (Edit: Technically the Extended Edition nor the Theatrical Cut are Peter Jackson's preference. He's gone on record as saying his vision lies somewhere between the two cuts of the LOTR Trilogy) Plus this is still Tolkien you're talking about; just isn't remotely the same tier.
The fact many (arguably most) Director's Cuts are studio mandated for Anniversaries remains. Although, the statement "Films are never finished only released" still rings true.
My only point was that the "T2: Director's Cut" isn't Cameron's preference; which I mentioned since you said "The Directors cut is what the Director has in mind" even though the dictionary definition doesn't account for complexities of the business
I hope you don't take this as a shot at you. Only clarifying

@@FireLordIroh No offense taken. My point is: All those scene's are filmed, then reviewed, and only to not make a 3 hour theatrical version (for example) it gets edited and cut down to a 2 hr. 20 min. Theatrical version. But it was still filmed by the director as he wanted it filmed, and more likely than not be released as " The director's cut" at a future date. For me: The extended version of LOTR is the best version of those films. It explains a lot more for those who have not read the books. ( Like why Gimley fell in love with Gabriella.)

I’ve noticed that the best directors/creators (Spielberg, Cameron etc.) were 200% solely focused on telling a great story. They were not focused or distracted about pampering their egos like 99% of all other film creators. They genuinely cared about the story and expressing it through film. I think this is their secret to success.

  • @logandarklighter

I disagree. I think this particular Terminator - who I designate “Uncle Bob” because that’s what John named him - after John resets him to be able to learn - did in fact learn emotion at some level right near the end. He still can’t express it very well. But he understands.
EDIT: Since you saw the theatrical release, you did NOT see a very important deleted scene that most fans agree should be considered a standard part of the movie and is on the extended cuts of the film.
Long story short - after they get away from the T-1000 at the hospital the first time and holed up. John realizes after the Terminator says that Skynet sends the Terminators out in “read only” mode that he and Sarah with technical help and description from the Terminator, can “reset” the Terminator’s CPU so that it CAN learn and grow. And they do this.
This is important because once you see that scene it makes all the scenes with John teaching “Uncle Bob” make sense. It also makes the subtle evolution of the T-800 into something more human-like as the film progresses from that point to the end make sense.
