I've used these blanks for over 30 years in an H&R 922, 9 shot 22, double action, flip out cylinder, and ejector, to introduce pointing dogs and retrievers to gunfire After test-firing a few and learning the point-blank damage they can cause I made sure the pistol was always pointed away from the dog. Never had a failure to fire but they sure caused a lot of fouling and carbon buildup. They are a lot less expensive than regular blanks and they are available in multiple powder/charge levels which worked great in training a young pup.
I used to own one of those H&R 922s!
Thanks for the info, I follow all of ypur videos.
When I was in Army camp, one of the assistant instructors used a blank to shoot the head off of a rattlesnake. It got my attention!
I remember when Jon Erik Hexum killed himself by accident on the set of a TV show he was in. That was probably in the early to mid 80s. He found out those blanks of old are not so safe too. He was probably going to be the next TV star.
I tried to make myself some blanks for a carcano with bullseye and cream of wheat. I was quite shocked when I shot one at a piece of plywood some 10ft away and it put a little 6.5 hole clear through it
@@user-bn3zo3mh5v I remember that pretty well. It was a .44 Magnum blank, definitely not a toy. Brandon Lee died from a blank, too. A squib load was stuck in the barrel… 😳
@@5roundsrapid263 Oh crap! Scared me for a second. I have a friend with that name that is a police officer and former game warden.
Try a center-fire handgun blank on a bag of flower or a phone book. It blows the crap out of it. About 25 years ago Guns and Ammo did a story about the dangers of blanks.
Now I just need a way to fasten a flashlight to my nailgun!!!
T - Rex Tape
@@Oldmanwithagoldpan Powder actuated tools have a muzzle safety in them-you have to press the muzzle against the item being fasetned before the gun will fire.Used to work at an industrial hardware place that sold the guns, blanks, and fastners. The really FUN PA guns were those that used 38 cal blanks! would drive 3/8 Dia fastners into steel or concrete. For .22 be careful with the HV blanks that are in longer nickel plated cases. These can generate more pressure than 22 cal guns can withstand. They were designed for fastener guns that used HV ammo only.CCI,Winchester/Olin made guns, fasnters and blanks.Hilti made their own!!!NOT compitable with other guns-ONLY Hilti.
If you put some 22 caliber lead pellets in the revolver in front of those blanks, it would actually produce a shootable projectile.
I did that with a .22 bolt action rifle. It worked pretty good. Strictly a last ditch survival tactic for getting a squirrel or bird up close. But, it did work.
I've done this with my old single shot. Works. And can save my 22 ammo. Mr. Gunny is right. Okay for plinking, last ditch for game. Rabbit stick is faster an sustainable.
@Velcro1167 True, they'll fire, but not very accurately. .22 pellets are .218, .22 LR bullets and the barrel is .223
@@dkeith45 just flare the bases of the pellets untill you get a tight fit and the base will flare even more when the powder pressure hits it(Minnie bullet) it can grab the rifleing then lol
The brass is too thin and will rupture the case head, might hurt your hand in a revolver but work's great in a bolt action
I use those to shoot wax slugs out of my ruger single six. It works good for quick draw when you don’t want to practice with live ammo but still want to pop a balloon or something. It’s been a few years ago but some guys where using those and .22 pellets in a single shot rifle with mixed results and crazy speeds.
Some days it doesn't pay to gnaw through the restraints.
Glad that you're doing this test. Thank you once again!
Nailed it!!!
Those tools are called "Stud Hammers".
The .22 blank is a Stud Hammer Round. They work in .22 rim fire rifles quite well, trust me😉. They are mostly used to hammer and secure metal studs into a concrete foundation. Once the Stud Hammer is loaded and placed where the stud is to be nailed in, the worker takes a hammer and slams the back end of the stud hammer and BAM! It drives the nail straight through the metal Stud and concrete anchoring it to the floor.
Load 22 pellets then the blank behind them and let's see how accurate 22 pellets can shoot from the Heritage.
Thats a good idea.
As Mr Helton says, use the .22 airgun SLUGS.
I don’t know how much the skirted pellets can take, but I will try them with the level one blanks. Years ago, I purchased from Sportsman’s Guide, a special brass 223 case that you could load a 22 cal pellet at the mouth of the case. It had a little punched in place that left a piece of the brass sticking in to keep the pellet from dropping all the way in and a larger place in the back to load a shotgun primer. It was pretty well thought out because it had a place along the edge of the primer that made it easy to pry the spent primer out with a screwdriver. I never tried it out very far, but I was able to hole a styrofoam cup at about 10 yards. It was fun, but I don’t use it now because I don’t have a whole lot of shotgun primers on hand! 😂
I have done this with a shot gun 22 lr adapter and it works
I love my Rough Rider, as a matter of fact I just picked up a decorative .22 WMR cylinder with a snake engraved/etched on it from Heritage. Don't know if you're aware but Taurus bought Heritage a while back. Both products have gotten even better in quality control.
When I was a kid, I used to shoot these instead of paper caps. Had a starter pistol that would not shoot real ammo due to closed barrel, but the cylinder and firing mechanism worked just like the real deal. The .22 blanks were shorter, but they were plenty loud.
The heritage rough rider is so much fun to plink with. I got my wife one for our wedding and she loves it.
Shoot those blanks at a paper plate about 4' away , see if there's any discharge hitting the plate ! 😳
Should try putting some .22 pellets in front of em, those are blanks for running in studs. Be cool to see what they chronograph at, if they're any accurate at all.
WTW, love your videos, remember to clean your Heritage revolver right away, most blank ammo is charged with black power.
Really appreciate you watching Kenneth
Now you just need to have somebody throw a rock at the steel targets while you shoot these to get your shooting fix on a budget!😆
Hahaha there you go. Stargate fan by chance? Reminds me of the line " hey! You in the skirt! Get that target swinging a bit."
I have used these 22 cal nail blanks for over 50 years, I am part of my family owned wild west show, with over 5,500 performances from 1964 to date all over the western states for 100s of major events, we use the 22 blanks for events that require less noise, as we mostly use 45 cal blanks and other calibers, the 22 cal nail gun blanks work well but can be much harder on your gun as they have higher pressures then standard 22 cal blanks.
That's really cool, which color ramset blanks did y'all use?
Are they the same as dummy launcher blanks? Dummy launcher blanks look the same.
Yup, need to clean every now and then..
Throw some 22 pellets on the top of those!
i was going to comment the same thing but figured i would see if anyone else thought about trying to shoot pellets with these...
Please
Pellets are lighter than 40g bullets, and the blanks have wayyyyy more powder. You’ll have some leading for sure, but some interesting results otherwise.
@@charlestravis9798 maybe just try the lead free ones
@@charlestravis9798 others on youtube have done lead pellets but i havent seen anyone try the alloy pellets. they are supposed to be 1 or 200ish f.p.s. faster in the air rifles. id be curious to see if you get the same results with blanks in the revolver lol.
Gotta love the rough riders
This reminds me of this guy from our mortar platoon when we were at JRTC shooting a cleaning rod out of an M4 with a blank, went really deep into a tree.
That sounds cool as hell

I found it amusing how the sound was way out of sync in the slow motion portion. You hear the bang long before the hammer falls.
He's a ventriloquist.
Blanks are very cool at night! Big flash!
I have the same revolver. I love it. Very accurate little pistol out to 25 yrds.
I've never seen a blank used before. Thanks for the video.
Lvl 5 in a riffle with a 22 pellets chronograph and clay block
Just got some straight walled level 6 (purple) blanks for testing.
You will need to clean it now!
Used to house practice, with a 22lr bolt action, with a .22 caliber pellet in front. At 20 feet, they'll bury in a pine 4x4 😁
Would have liked to see a test sheet of paper held out at different distances to see what, if anything, came out the barrel. Could be a paper target, press cardboard or corrugated cardboard.
I got that exact same pistol (serial number should be different lol). Got it at Academy several years ago on Black Friday for 99 bucks
They're affordable, durable, fun firearms!
@@Stevarooni and in September, I will be able to carry it without a permit here in Texas!
@@ttwatt3027 I saw that! 👍. Welcome to freedom.
nail gun blanks and air rifle pallets give you lots of fps
Wooden boards layed across each other to support heavy items gives you Frames Per Second?
Hey Adam. This is a interesting video cant wait to see how it goes
these nailgun blanks are actually loaded way hotter than normal .22lr
Most stores only sell the level 2-3-4 blanks. Level 1-5-6 blanks seem to be harder to find. I had to Amazon a box of #6's
Definitely didn't expect this video......always keep us guessing
Try to! Ha!
This guy sounds like he should be selling propane and propane accessories. Love the video, too!
If you stick a 22 cal air rifle pellet on tip of the nail gun blank they can shoot well
Cannot sell heritage and hi-point pistols in iL because the metal melts down too easily.
Hey Bro!!! A clean gun is a HAPPY gun...
I use a Ramset just about every week or so, and those yellow number 4's will drive a 2.5" nail clear through a 2x4 if you don't have the washer attached. That Ramset is like the more portable version of the gas piston on No Country For Old Men...
WTW, you are about the funnest gun guy to watch
🙏🙏🙏 appreciate you watching
I've never had a problem with a roughrider 22. somehow you end up with one having problems...lol
There's a few foul balls in every process.
Thats just “Murphy” showing up
I saw someone else on UA-cam use those with 22 caliber air rifle pellets. Seems the stronger blanks cause the pellets to turn to mush. I believe he said he wouldn't use more than #2 or 3. But, do not try that at home as they say.
I just bought those exact same ones to try in my Heritage Barkeep.
I have never heard of that one.I got to find me one.
@@mikeforce5926 Short barrel belly gun version of the Rough Rider.
You was saying something about 243 ammo I have 6 rounds I no longer need because I traded min off the ammo is about a year and a half old if your interested
I pass Paul's house every morning and evening going home I have different kind of ammo some I have 1 of are 5 are 3 just a little bag of ammo maybe you and Paul can see what y'all can use
They’re VERY dirty. Make sure you clean between usage. I use copper plated .22 pellets , they fit tighter in cylinders. Cheaper shooting than .22 LRs.
I use the yellow ones a shoot find and they are noisy really noisy compared to a 22
I learned something New!
Yeah I loaded my rough rider with them also it's so cool shooting the blanks, got me a box for New years Eve
These are great to prank your buddies with! It's funny as all get out when they can't figure out how in the neck they missed all six shots!
That's diabolical
Ad Absurdum, true. But its still hilarious!
I get where you're going but firearms and pranks should not be mixed.
This is only done at a organized pistol range, with buddies who are also firearms enthusiasts.
What are the laws surrounding buying nail gun blanks do you have to have a firearms permit or a drivers license
Putting a .22 caliber pellet in front of those will give you scary fast projectiles because they are so light from being used in air guns.
Use a 5.56 blank in a rifle with an air gun pellet gives you INSANE velocities.
I like the Chiappa and Uberty revolvers as they load more than 6 rounds in the cylinder.
Not very accurate though since the air gun pellets are only .218 while the 22 LR is .223 and 5.56 is .224
These Ramset loads are NOT BLANKS, in the true sense of the word. They pack a real burst of power that can send shards of the casing flying out in many directions.
You will note the power level of these loads written there in a chart on the front of the box, 1,2,3,4, & 5 . These loads can and do, send a hardened nail/pin into solid concrete.
ANYWAY, you'd be very smart to NOT use these as "blanks",.... that is if you care for your gun possibly any by-standers.
Note: I made this comment at the instant I saw WHO-TEE-WHO start talking about them,... so now I'll watch the rest of the video. :)
I would have “fanned” the pistolaro!🤠
BTW, I purchased a Heritage Rough Rider for my youngest son when they cost $79-99.00 years ago and they are great pistols! 😎💪🇺🇸❤️
Fanning a single action is a good way to break the bolt spring (which "lifts" the bolt). Then the bolt drags and leaves a "cut" around the aft of the cylinder. I got a really good price on a nice Nickled 45 Colt because the first owner had done that and ruined the look of the cylinder.Yh gun will still function and lock up properly but it will (if broken) wreck the look of the cylinder. dont do it to a nice gun.
In the house 🏠
I've used these kind of blanks to shoot chopsticks out of my 22 semi auto. Lol they stuck into a box from about 20 feet. Then shattered after a few times. They did not cycle. Besides, they cost way more than most 22lr
If you used .22 LR (I assume your pistol is chambered in .22 Long Rifle) blanks I'm sure there would be sufficient pressure to cycle the action.
@@KageNoTora74 unfortunately no, they will not cycle any of my 22lr pistols. I presume that without the back pressure of the projectile, there is not enough force to rack the slide.
@@KageNoTora74 there is a video of me shooting 22lr shotshell vs spider on my channel. They will not cycle anything either.
Balloon popping would be entertaining for the kids
I put the #4 in my revolver it cut a dime sized hole in a soda can but they do swell up pretty good.
I like to see those fired from about 6-10" from a piece of paper to see if
1- the flame dcortched the paper
2- if the green wad will poke a hole in the paper.
As always, great vid
Thanks for watching Tracy
We use a bolt or rod system, powered by a similar blank to dispatch animals on the kill floor before processing them.
The podcast says it comes on at 4:30 AM. Is that right???
Yes. It is in Australia
Ya loading pellets in a rifle with this blanks is. Mean.. real mean. Or fast at least . Pretty fun
if you shoot them you can say you never missed. lol!!! thanks for the video.
I know how you feel about stuff not working, when you’re filming, I don’t edit so what you see is what you get
Get it Hank!
U have a cylinder in my heritage that's tight to eject and two one being 22 mag no problems could be it's not quite in spec. But its crap compared to the ruger I inherited from my gramps a 1965 model. But for the price not bad.
Not saying these will, but I fired some different brand power driver Whammer cartridges out of my favorite .22 revolver and didn't clean it, I don't know what propellant they used but it like to ruined my firearm, in a very short time, don't want the same for anyone else. Nice video Thanks
Those revolvers always make me think of Yosemite Sam.
ABSOLUTELY YA GALOOT!!!
Get some 22 cal pellets and you dump a pellet in first with a blank behind it. Iv seen videos of doing it in a pistol like that and bolt action rifles
DeWalt one got the X W. On them. I think 🤔 it was from Winchester 22 the cassing looks the same as X Winchester 22lr round I got.
Head-spacing is everything
Love those grips on that Heritage.
Most shooters are hard of hearing,I can't hear anything from my right side. I nead people to be in front of me if you want me to understand what your saying
Fun video - loved the hoo_tee_hoo finale!
Seen guys use them in bolt action rifles where they ram a pellet down the barrel and the pellets end up shooting 2000 or more fps
Consider too... he's using the green and yellow blanks (level 3-4).... there are more powerful red and purple (levels 5 and 6 accordingly)
I can't wait to see what THEY do with some red flight penetrators (non-lead pellets)
Blanks worked better than the real rounds. Field in Michigan
Side note, the powder loads for fastening are actually undersized, as far as .22 caliber goes. The reason is the tools themselves are designed to keep the curious from putting a .22 caliber bullet in the tool. I'm not sure what size they truly are, but I do have some industrial Winchester .38 loads that are stamped 38, but cataloged as 37.
The concrete anchoring guns are called RamSet's.
👍👍
You should look into airrow barrels for a rifle they are made by swivel machine and are fun also that is the best use for those blanks
Make a good loud July 4 noisemaker.
Good old heritage. What's cool is u can flip the clyder to 22mag for while hunting or trapping or trail or hiking or self defense.
Should try that 22lr shotshells out of one of them hard works pretty good do to short rifling. Might be good say 5 to 10 ft. Try pop or water bottles . Lot guys on mewe where shared said use use for rats or mice or shakes
You can get some 22cal pellets and put them in front of the blanks in a single shot rifle. And you get over 2000 f.p.s. Out of them. Only accurate close end when you go over about 15 yards they go every where.. But it’s a way to shoot 22 when every store is out of 22 l.r.
I've always wondered about those also 👊😎
I use them in my Rough Rider to kill carpenter bees. You get within a foot or two and just shoot the carpenter bee. Kills them just like a shot shell would.
When we were kids we used to put those in a straw and throw them up in the air in the middle of the road and they come down and go off
Did the same with shotgun shells only taped a marble to the primer and about an 18 inch by 1 inch streamer to the body.
I used to put 22lr in straws and throw them up lmao
Try launching those straws with a large rubber band between your fingers like a slingshot. I first started shooting straws like this with one of those "safety" throw-able firecracker poppers attached with some added weight (very stealthy and nice flash at night) but later worked up to 22LR.
Psh, we used to make molotovs. Get on my level
ive noticed some brass for 22lr is too soft and deforms in the cyl of the heritage. sellier and bellot does it often to me
I love doing this
Use Power Level 5 in a bolt action rifle...and load airgun 10gr projectiles. POW!! Chrono that!
Just a thought, but maybe try adding a 22 caliber pellet in front of the blank??????
What is actually coming out of those blanks? Just air?
Ahh, its not the camera, its that darn Murphy paying you a visit
It works. But i don't recommend it. Because the blanks are slightly bigger then a 22 casing. And gets stuck.
.22 cal air rifle pellet in front of those nail gun blanks shoots around 2000fps
Hey there WTW, just stopped in to say hello! 👍
Hello!
Watching next day, fun little video. Thanks again Who & Gods Speed to ya and the family. 👍🇺🇸
Like my Ruger Wrangler.
Try a pellet gun pellet with the nail gun blank
I know this is late and probably get missed. I saw a video where they used the red level nail gun blanks and then used a rod to load a 22 pellet down the barrel to just before the shell.
It went through a 3/16" SS plate and a CCI Mini Mag would not.
Gall dang It! Bobby lol
Put a .22 pellet infront of the blank. The #4 yellow box blanks push the pellet at 2,800-3000 fps. I shoot them out of my Charter Arms Pathfinder 2 inch.Sometimes is can be a little bit of pain to get the empty case out when that crimped frontend opens up, but no big deal.
load pellets in front of them. i use it for trapping and it works great.
