    At that time, European vehicles had loose emission regulations, so all vehicles imported into Japan were obliged to change the injection setting and to have a catalyst. In fact, the Japanese version of the Golf GTI 16V was 14PS lower than the European version.

      crap claim the Golf GTI 16V was only avaible with cat from 1987 all around the world with less power than the early versions. The version in Japan had in 1990 the same power as in Europe ...fun fact in Europe it had only 168Nm in Japan 171Nm
      The only nation were the GTI 16V was sold after 1987 without cat was the UK till 1992.
      Why didn´t they use the Golf G60 ...at least power would be on pair with the japanese cars

    • @HFStuart
      @HFStuart 2 роки тому +8

      Same is true of the XU9 in the Pug - it was awful with a CAT - although judging by the start that one was not too healthy.

    • @HarikenRed1
      @HarikenRed1 2 роки тому +8

      @@HFStuart The Cat isn't the culprit for the 10 HP loss between the XU9JA (original 130 HP) and the XU9JAZ (Cat 120 HP), but the lower compression ratio of 9.6:1 reduced to 9.2:1 in order to be compatible with 95 RON. The XU9JA is compatible with 98 RON only.
      And as the Motronic engine management had no knock sensor at that time, Peugeot decided just to reduce the compression ratio for the few years life time of this engine (and earlier small markets like Japan, Germany, Austria...), without investing much money as it will be dropped soon.
      Removing the Cat doesn't help to retrieve the original 130 HP and higher torque. The XU9JA original pistons are necessary (this is the main difference), or scrap 1mm from the cylinder head to get back the original 9.6:1 ratio.
      In both cases, only 98 RON must be used, like the 130 HP. The JAZ cam shaft has a smaller valve lift too, but the difference is not that huge.

      It is body roll due to a way too low roll center. I have done calculations and sims on the Kadett chassis many times in vsusp and it is clearly something they have overlooked. After putting in that rather expensive Lotus/Cosworth engine and spending tons on wind tunnel testing they cut cost on the chassis, which really was a shame. Had the geometry been designed better and had it been treated better against rust it would have been right there at the top of most desirable cars of that era.

      Well, cars are being tested just like they leave the dealers, so you can blame the car manufacturers for choosing bad tires just like for choosing bad suspension type or engine. Still I totally agree with you about the tires and that it should also be tested on this same tires types too, at least for some time attacks. Tires are replaceable part of the car and the test, where they use this same tires model, but using manufacturers tire size would be really interesting and more seems like a real life scenario.

    The European Sunny (Pulsar) had a 143hp SR20DE and a limited slip differential, coupled with perfect gearing. All that made it a very secure feel for driving fast. Even driving fast under heavy rain felt secure. The engine was awesome. But to keep up on small roads with the 205, it would have needed better tires.
    The 120hp version of the 205 is a joke, very sluggish compared to the 130hp. The chassis is a lot more fun than all the other cars, but once you reach it’s limits, your in deep trouble (more than the other cars here).
