Which spot do I start with? Thanks for noticing my comment!
oh hey, also when I opened my case, there was a metal-like thing and it was covering the ssd slot. do u know anything about it? i got a Y530 so that might help
edit: it looks like it can be removed with using a screwdriver, but I was wondering if i should even touch it
@@yeetub This is just a cover with thermal pad. If you wanna replace SSD you have to remove it first, then after installing put it back on
@@TechFinds thanks!
Hi, do you know where I could find the cable from the hard drive to the bay? Thx!
No idea mate. Contact Lenovo support so maybe they can guide you
@@TechFinds Thx for your time.
Where I can verify my installed(by default) model for RAM(8gb) to my Y540-17irh?
i have a question to ask because i have the y530 and this guide is for the y540. my y530 have an 1TB HDD and no SSD installed. can i install an SSD? And what type of SSD do you recommend? thanks
If you have only HDD you have M.2 slot free for SSD. You can go for Example for Samsung 970 Evo. I linked few options of M.2 drives in the description
Can we upgrade gtx 1650 to gtx 1660 ti or rtx card and i5 9th gen to i7 9thgen
No, you can't upgrade processor or graphics card in pretty much any laptop
So i have the y545 and windows is pre installed on it and i bought a 970 evo for my laptop and i dont know how to transfer windows or what to do any idea?
You have to use Microsoft Media Creation Tool to copy your Windows and install it from pendrive on new SSD. Your files will be lost tho so save them first on some external storage.
I don't have that hdd cable :( Where can I buy for this unit? :(
Thank you for the info, very complete.
Hey, i just ordered this laptop with 256gb ssd but I want more. Is it possible to put another HDD of 1tb? not to replace the 256gb ssd but to put additional?
Yes if your laptop came with only one M.2 SSD you have one free slot for 2.5" drive
After the installing the hdd it's not recogning on the laptop
You have to go to device manager and create a partition on this new drive to make it appear in your pc
Does seagates barracuda work with my y545 and is the same ram compatible with y545 ? Please help
Yes, Barracuda and the RAM i linked in the description will work with Y545 as well
Hello. I am having same laptop. Can I add 1tb SSD nvme m.2 type or is there any maximum storage limit
Sure, you can go for even 2TB if you want.
Hey thanks for the very informative video! I just have a question - is it necessary to destatic yourself before you open the laptop up?
i've never done that, i don't know, but i don't think it's necessary
@@TechFinds ah cool, thanks for the response!
Hi...
I want to upgrade my M2 to a 1Tb Samsung Evo 970.
Just wanna know if it's compatibles with my the Y540
Yes you can install it
@@TechFinds thanks... and good video!👌
do we need to do any setting after we install the sshd?
You have to partition the drive in drive manager in order to make it appear in Your PC
@@TechFinds do you have a tutorial on that?!
Hey Tech Finds! I just thought to ask, will it void my Lenovo warranty to replace the ram sticks? More importantly, is there a seal on the ram sticks that would show if they were removed?
It may depend on the country, so i recommend reading your warranty terms or contact Lenovo support. By default in most cases changing RAM/HDD/SSD won't void the warranty unless you damage something during upgrade.
Edit: i didn't find any seals
@@TechFinds Alright thanks, I read through the warranty and it looks like it won't void it unless I were to damage it like you said, but I'm not too worried about that since your tutorial is so clear! Thank you
I asked the lenovo service the same question via chat. They said it would interfere with the warranty, but I'm still not sure, since the person there seemed somewhat incompetent.
is it gonna work on Y540-15IRH?
What is the maximum hdd and ssd combination for the legion y540?
Like how many terabytes of hdd and ssd can I install at the same time?
I'm not aware of any limits. 2TB HDD and 2TB SSD should work for sure
Can I have a second ssd 2.5 sata?
@@mareknieradko7971 No it's not possible
I noticed in the frequency of the RAMS you linked in the description are all 2666Mhz, are higher frequency not compatible with the laptop?
No, 2666MHz is max
У меня Legion y540-17 . Заменил в нём ссд на samsung 990 pro 2 терабайта - работает как часы!
I improve old HD whit a new Samsung SSD sata and i have a problem into Lenovo vantage becouse It Always show the SSD Is 100% empty whit the Orange ring in the info but itz not any suggestion ?
If the SSD is working it's good. Maybe Lenovo Vantage didn't recognize your new SSD
@@TechFinds SSD Is working good if i click on the Orange circle i can see the new SSD name but Always 100% empty itz trigger me coz i Always open Lenovo vantage for things , you had the sale problem whene swap SSD ? I miss something ?

Are the cooling fans on Y530 and Y540 the same? I own y540 and the fans require replacement, but I'm only able to find fans of y530 in the store near me. Can I use them instead? Because they look kinda similar. Will it work the same?
