It is not possible to incarcerate the addict out of someone. It is a health issue, not criminal in nature.
I agree
You also can’t force someone into treatment tho
@@missy8106 That's debatable as courts and fed up families do it all the time, but you're right in that people aren't going to quit until the pain of using becomes greater than the pain of stopping!
Drug use while pregnant is a crime and should be punished. It’s abuse.
What percentage of crime is drug related? Is living with a drug addicted parent good for the kid? Should we just wait till the mom want to get clean while a helpless child lives in that chaotic environment?
@@MrBobbo18 really helping with that chaotic environment by throwing the parent in jail lmao

If Trump continued to push that 2+2=5, I'd wager at least half of his followers would begin to believe it's true. It's genuinely sad how weak-minded so many people are.
People should start talking about the Industral Prison Complex. There is no interest in rehabilitation. Just storing people and receiving funding from the State for incarceration.
just dont do crime then
@@TitbitistUsing a drug is not a crime. Remember what happened when we started arresting people en masse for alcohol? This kind of lazy public policy always a massive societal failure.
Our system is clearly failing. The crackdown on prescription opioids led to fentanyl and look how that turned out; over100,000 dead from overdoses in 2022. And these deaths will continue to rise. People have used drugs ast long as humans have lived, and making them illegal does not stop anyone from using them, addict or not. I could buy drugs easier than I could alcohol before I was 21. If we don't try something different, then more people will die and more crime will happen. That "just say no" mentality was clearly a total fail, why not try a different approach.@@Titbitist
@@artyparty_avSo allowing drugs won’t lead to a ‘massive societal failure’?
@@jes6161 Certainly not - since the drugs are already here wheter they are “allowed” or not. The policy that works best with drugs is damage control and rehabilitation - not incarcaration where they just are put into a drug rich environment filled with other addicts (absurd amounts of drugs in prison)
Those moments after your baby is born, you can never get it back and it is so precious. Your baby needs you, to feel you, smell you and just be with you. I really feel for women who miss out on this
It sounds like her baby was taken straight to the NICU due to Angelica having poisoned the baby with lethal drugs the 9 months she was pregnant, 9 months of development the child will never get back.
She also said she wanted to nurse the baby which would have put more drugs in the baby's system.

In Mexico, if mothers are pregnant and have to deliver in jail, the baby can stay til it turns 5 years old, then goes with a near relative or with the child protection system. I can't imagine for the women in the United States that you have to break that bond so soon. If things are broken, don't turn them to dust.

Good thing she doesn’t need your empathy and she definitely doesn’t need your judgement.

And schools don’t do it well either, the DARE program failed which is why it’s no longer in school. It failed because police officers were the ones to deliver info on drugs instead of medical professionals or rehabilitation specialists. The program focused on fear mongering, it needs to focus on compassion and rehabilitation to be successful if it’s ever attempted again.
And I’m not defending drug use, I’m against it. I’ve seen what it does to people. But I have compassion and don’t blame people for becoming addicted in the first place, I don’t care how it happened, and it isn’t always their fault.
@@cptemilie I think most know that harmful drugs=bad they just do it anyways to escape reality, they start at alcohol and then weed, moving onto more progressively damaging substances. another example of the US putting profit over people. Yes, they committed a crime, but is the punishment fair? Why do we treat non-violent offenders so harshly, has this provided better outcomes for society? It always goes back to profit vs doing and making decisions that are best for society.

If our government would do this kind of help around all states our country would be a better place. Even giving the dads that are in jails the same way of taking care of their babies would help all families. Don’t lock up people that do minor drug offenses but put them in rehabs that cater to the needs of the individual that has drug addictions. Putting people in jail for petty crimes can lead to more problems than it can solve. There do needs to be some exceptions to different individuals that have a violent record that is attached to the crime or that of one who seems to have a mental health issue.

There are mothers incarcerated because they are addicts without resources or support. Have you not heard of the opioid epidemic? These aren't isolated cases - they're just poor, so they're doing the time. Rich addicts buy their way out of jail time and therefore never worry about being seperated from their kids. Committing a crime doesn't matter if you can pay the right lawyer and get off.

The system is prisons for profit. None violent offenders are just a commodity. The illness is our society that too many are drugging themselves to deal with. "Where there is no vision, the people perish". When mininum wage hasn't risen in 14 years and was also way below any standard of living before that. Opportunities out of reach or unavailable to too many in our population. What goals can one set to achieve in a society where prosperity and on the job satisfaction is only granted to the few? Many jobs with little or no benefits, treating their workers like cogs in a wheel, easily replaced who see no gains themselves when the companies they are working for are seeing record profits? You ask me what dreams, hopes and excitement for the future too many don't have. That can often lead to checking out or getting into drugs and the sales of them.
Yet the well connected get theirs without a problem. But instead of fixing this bottom line issues in our society, let's build more prisons for profit for investors and the greedy as children are living on the streets and mothers are incarcerated.
Ive never seen different hair styles from a reporter in one episode

Here's an idea and here me out cause it's really out there; Don't break the law?
It’s an addiction in many cases. We have an obligation as a society to treat the cause of the crime, not just punish the crime itself. Addiction is a critical mental challenge for people. Especially given the massively increased addictive qualities of newer drugs like fentanyl.
@@archangelcharlie I get that. And it's terrible that some are just born into bad situations.
However, you never have to stop if you never start in the first place.
The fact remains tho, I've never used or drugs and what do you know, I've never been in jail for those crimes. For some it's not simple, but it really is that easy (barring a crazy situation of wrong place, wrong time, wrongful conviction stuff).
I will also state that I was born into a "normal" lower middle class family, with a skin color and sex that seemingly is more conducive to better opportunities, even though by every margin I am living right above the poverty line to this day.
So I own I speak from a perspective that is probably biased since I don't know what it's like to be raised around drugs/violence/broken home/abuse, etc.
