    I have the 60v Greenworks non self propelled. I use it mostly without using the turbo button. But the speed automatically when encountering tough grass or weeds. It’s great to have the turbo button when needed. I think mine is simply a no frills version of the mower you reviewed. I’m pleased with it. Great and thorough review.

    I've just bought a Greenworks (although not that model) and it has a steel deck. That matters for me as my previous battery mower had a plastic deck and the "skirt" broke after runnin over some small branches. The Greenworks, with the brushless motor also has a lot of torque compared to my previous mower.

  • @jon_byler

    I don't think the fan on the greenworks is pushing any air through the battery. it's just cooling the charger.

    Thanks for the great comparison.
    I bought one (Greenworks) , plus the blower/trimmer kit (really, for the extra battery) on sale at Lowe's last week, but haven't opened anything yet. (Their return policy says you can't return used mowers...)
    I keep reading about poor battery life for the Greenworks - seems to be the main complaint.
    Any thoughts?

      Thanks Android Farmer It’s just the motor from what I can tell, it works harder than in should in light to medium conditions, I’m comparing that to the select cut which will rev up the motor but from what I’ve seen only under heavy mowing conditions

      I’ve had my greenworks mower for over a year now, and the battery life is just as good as the day I got it. I’m not just saying that, I’ve literally had zero diminish in regards to battery life, and I now at least once a week, if not twice.

    I got ego new one with 7amps it’s joke the battery doesn’t hold long and charge are junk to :( and doesn’t have enough vacuum to lift the grass to cut :( either and leaves hi grass stripes :( and you have to cut really slow I have 16,000 sqf and taking 1.5 hours:( + trimming and blowing total 2 hours:(

    This confirms to me that I ordered the correct mower FOR ME. I ordered the Greenworks due to the heavier weight. I have watched videos and read reviews that the lighter plastic decked mowers tend to have front end lift as the bag fills , or if mulching, as you mow over an uneven yard. I also dont like the extra thickness at the front and sides of the ECO. Thanks for this great comparison review!

  • @donaldgillmore7390
    @donaldgillmore7390 2 роки тому +2

    I have Greenworks 19" and Ego 21" mowers, both push, not self propelled. The Greenworks 40V is in its 10th season, is not brushless due to its age, but is still going and was the first Li Ion mower available in my area. It's perhaps not a fair comparison but I don't think plastic decks are bad necessarily. As with most things it depends on how well it is executed. The plastic deck of the Ego mower (model LM2101) is much stiffer and more solid than the steel deck on the Greenworks, though the Greenworks is not in the same league (a smaller less powerful machine.) The Ego deck is stiffer than steel decks on cheap gas mowers I've used, rivalling Honda and Toro mowers I've used. Deck stiffness matters if you are working on uneven surfaces or have to lift or unweight one side of the mower to mow against or over a hole or something else that the mower would get hung up on. I am on acreage and have 3 hours of mowing every week. I got the Ego because it is bigger and more powerful, and the Greenworks batteries, of which I have many, do not run as long as they used to. The Greenworks has been a trooper to last this long but the rear wheels needed replacement about 4 years ago and the deck has been bent. Its batteries are not good for mowing anrymore but in the string trimmer and chainsaw they are fine. My neighbors use lawn tractors and have no more lawn than I do. Over the life of the Greenworks I have saved in excess of $500 in fuel, possibly approaching $1000. So with a retail price of $500 for the Greenworks in 2012 it has definitely paid off. I've never had a mower last more than 10 years. The previous mower was rusted out after 10 years. The Greenworks, being an early model, is not at the level of the newer mowers but I have been willing to put up with a reduction in power and general performance to be free of that noise vibration and most importantly fumes and having gas and oil around. With the Ego's performance meeting or exceeding gas mowers I've had, gas mowers are obsolete as far as I'm concerned.

    Hi Al: I checked on my LM2150SP purchased mower and (it was a floor model) but it included a 10.0Ah battery (marked “October 2020”); the accompanying charger is the “Model CH7000” and says 120V, 60Hz and 700W. It ALSO is marked “OCTOBER 2020”
    Did I essentially “build” a 2156 with aforementioned accompanying items, or am I missing some update aspect.
    I am sweating the details because I rarely buy a new mower and want “thee best” EGO can provide me !

    I am sure someone else has explained this, but it's worth mentioning since so many mower reviews question the light feature. Many of us living in hot humid environments, my case South Texas where the temperature in the late spring early summer sits right around 100 and the humidity makes it feel hotter. Mowing is either done at the break of day, or more often after 6pm when the sun in setting and the southerly wind is blowing. It's not uncommon to finish a mow in the dark. The lights really do make a difference.

    Good video. Nice info. A couple things I'll point out on this older video, for those just finding it. 1 the handles. The green works is meant to be stored tipped upright. 2. The handles adjustment and controls are a bit of a pain and not really comfortable. 3. Pro tip. I took an old aluminum shower curtain rod and slid it through the handle adjustment holes now I can adjust and or fold the handle with 1 hand. Used a small piece of old bike inner tube on the ends of the pole to hold it in. Works great, looks like it belongs.

    great comparison, I knew ego was high quality from using their push mower for the past 2 years but I have a $3k credit to use on greenworks tools and I needed to know if its going to be of comparable quality. this helps a lot, thank you.

    • @TechMadeEzy
      @TechMadeEzy  3 роки тому +5

      Hi Kelkev
      GreenWorks makes a solid product seriously
      I would look at the 60 V or the 80 V
      If you just looking for a mower you’ll be fine but if you’re looking to get on the platform that’s going to have many tools that use that same battery that’s gonna be the challenge you face.
      Again if you’re just looking for a mower they make a nice model. If you’ve seen my videos I definitely picked up the 60 V and did some comparisons and it did really well.
      My biggest tip is looking to the future if you’re going to end up buying a whole bunch of tools then you want to make sure that the battery you have will work with all those tools.
      Take some time and look at GreenWorks 80 V tools then take some time and look at GreenWorks 60 V tools the other thing I would say is make sure that stores carry them or you can buy them online. A few of my subscribers love GreenWorks but they’re frustrated because it’s hard to find product in store forcing them to shop online.
      I hope this helps let me know if you have any questions I’d be glad to help and I hope you’re staying with us on the channel.
      Thank you

    Very thorough comparison, but the best thing about a Greenworks mower is it comes in an 80-volt model (Professional) .. however, E-GO is well-engineered for a basic homeowner model .. I would also like to see Greenworks take up the dual blade feature that the E-GO has.

  • @alan30189
    @alan30189 2 роки тому +1

    You really need a higher quality camera to make comparisons of the cut quality. A basic cell phone doesn’t quite cut it. No pun intended.
    You need to make sure the setting on one mower is equivalent to the setting of the other mower in inches, not mower settings. So if the third setting on the ego was 2 inches and the fourth setting on the Greenworks is 2 inches, those are the two settings you would want to use when making a comparison.

  • @46GarageUSA

    This is tough, I'm stuck between the Greenworks 60v 4amp hours vs the new Ego Select Cut with 10amp hour ..
    Sir, I mainly cut higher grass at times so which would you pick for high grass ???
    I'd never use the bags, either mulch or side discharge only

    • @TechMadeEzy
      @TechMadeEzy  3 роки тому +1

      They both do a good job , cut more often so it’s not as high. The challenge with cutting high grass is the deck gets so full with grass clippings at some point it can only do it’s best to cut the grass into small mulch . The improved torque and motor wattage on the ego should help with that as well. But I believe any of the two would do the job

  • @TomsPropertyCare

    We ended up going with the Greenworks Pro 60v over the Ego Select Cut for commercial cutting, Toro 60v but there was issues with that too (harder to pull back). I love the drive system on the Ego and how light it was but with that came poor cut quality at anything above ~2.5". It was recommended to put weight on the front or actively push up while mowing since I guess the bouncing motion from the front made the cut quality worse. The bricks on the front looked ridicules and negated any weight savings over a metal deck. We loved the Toro 60v but the resistance while pulling back meant it was harder on us. Came across the Greenworks Pro and loved it since its dual battery capable and it had none of the cut quality issues at higher heights like the Ego or funky 'fixes'. The only thing I will say is the drive system on the Greenworks Pro is absolute trash as it gets 'locked up' on just about every pull back and you have to actively think about when to let the drive system go before pulling back. We'll probably be going back to the Ego but either the Peak Power or steel deck assuming Ego doesn't have a 2021 model out by next year. If the Toro 60v had dual batteries and say the drive system from the Ego it would easily be the mower of choice.

    I noticed one thing I do not like about the Ego batteries; they have a bit of a funky logic programmed into their 5-LED fuel gauges. I can grab a fully charged 5Ah pack, (which I own 3 of) and throw it into a device, use the device for a very short time, and the pack leaps right past bars 5 and 4 on the fuel gauge to 3 lights, then hangs at 3 lights for a while, then when it's on its way down it pretty much does this again from 3 to 1 LED bar. I know what is happening as I have experience with lithium cell chemistry--lithium cells are charged to 4.20V each and used until they reach ~3.0V (some mfg cut supply higher, like 3.2V). If you draw a constant wattage from them, the voltage drop between 4.2-3.9V is a much steeper slope than it will be from 3.9-3.4V, and again steeper below that point from 3.4-3.0V, 3.0V being where supply is typically cut (assumed 0% level). Apparently Ego engineers assumed a direct linear correlation between voltage levels they are using in the packs, when in reality there should be a non-linear voltage plot used to display the amount of LED lights on the fuel gauge. Somebody made a "whoops" at Ego. It's OK, as I don't even really use the fuel gauge, I charge and use until power falls then grab the next pack in the charge rotation. But it does limit the usefulness of the gauge if one were to try to rely on it.

    Nice reviews! Considering the Greenworks Pro but like the dual blades of the EGO. What is holding me back is the build. The wheel axels look weak and the plastic and aluminum handles do not look like they can take a lot of torque. I'm sure this is fine for smooth and flat lawns, but my yard is not so flat and I must live with an alley where the mower has torque on the handle and I'm not sure this will hold up.

    Just like cars. There is always something one has you like better than the other.
    Combine the two, and you got the Cadillac of the bunch.
    I am very satisfied with my new Ego and still amazed at the fact I do not have to use the bag and not one stitch of grass to be seen, where as with the gas mulch mower, it was ALWAYS FULL to have to empty.
    That is with cutting the same length with the Ego, as I did with the gas mower as far as length before each cutting, which is always shorter than you let your grass grow before you cut each time. I use number 2 all the time.
    The real test will be this Fall when the gas mower did a terrific job of making the leaves disappear.

Seriously considering the greenworks 80v 25" or Ryobi new 30" ($ unknown until may) push mowers. Unfortunately EGO missed the boat this year. EGO... Amazing review thank you for doing this! I have the select cut and its a great mower. Its my third battery powered mower. I live in Florida and have very tall grass so I cut on height level 5 or 6. When cutting on these higher settings these mowers all seem to leave a narrow strip of semi cut - slightly taller grass near the right hand side for some reason (my select cut dose this with either blade option installed). I had assumed it was because battery mowers don't have enough lift to get the grass into the blade especially when cutting on higher settings where you are trying to cut the thinner, wispy top portion of the grass. I thought the two bladed select cut would have fixed this issue. Maybe with the greenworks turbo speed enabled it would have better results.
    I totally agree with you on the EGO headlights! I find them ineffective and I am so envious of the ones on the greenworks. Thanks for doing a nighttime demo, that was really awesome! I did some thinking and figured out why the EGO LED lights are so poor. It is because EGO completely left out a reflector on their LED headlight system. This makes the light go in all directions instead of focusing straight ahead. Even with 3 LEDs per side the EGO lights are way less effective then greenworks' single LED system with reflectors. Imagine using a flashlight or car headlights without a reflector...

I also bought the pressure washer ,the chain saw , the pressure washer is 110 volt corded, I used the 80 volt chainsaw yesterday on a railroad tie and it cut thru it like a hot knife thru butter.

Also it now has a lever to switch from mulch to bag so no more taking out the plug. I was excited. Put the battery in fully charged and NOTHING!! Re-checked. All lights are on. Nope. Spent an hour holding for Greenworks. Ridiculous. So for me, it goes back. Absolutely no customer service which means they don’t stand by their product.

    If one mower is cutting lower than another the test is void until they match regardless of the number setting. make them match cutting heights and try again. Use a measuring device to verify.

    • @steveamnmn
      @steveamnmn 3 роки тому +1

      I have to agree that setting both mowers to the same, measured cutting height would provide the best cut comparison. The other important variable not addressed here is self-propelled speed. It would be best to verify both mowers are set to the same "walking" speed. Mulching and cut quality in general will improve at slower speed and degrade at high speed.

      sort of the same. the greenworks has 15 cells in series, whereas the ego has 14. So the greenworks has slightly higher voltage (3-4v more depending on if measuring a full battery or a discharged battery) The Watt hour rating of the battery is probably most important, along with the number of peak watts the battery can provide.

    Interesting that your EGO doesn't have a safety "key" like the greenworks does. I was looking at a 2020 EGO in a store yesterday and it had a removeable fuse next the battery that acted as a safety key, This is in Australia, maybe our rules are different and its a requirement here to be able to isolate the tool.

    Is it safe to say the higher voltage battery is always the longer lasting battery? Or does the amps play a big part in the matter? For example, does a Ryobi 80V 10Ah battery last longer than a EGO 56V 12.0Ah ARC Lithium battery because it has more volts? Or does the battery with the higher Ah's last longer?

    • @goodwood7247

      One of the only questions asked in this string of comments that really deserves an answer as it's one of the most misunderstood areas in regards to these electric mowers. I still have not found a firm answer but leaning towards one particular blurb that stated "with more voltage you have more power, more ah more runtime".
      However a quick Google search and the answers are all over the place. You'd think the guy posting this video, with the level of confidence he projects in terms of his knowledge base regarding these machines, along with the amount of detail he went into reviewing/comparing other various less important features or details about their source of power. Isn't the whole point of buying an electric mower, at least on the very short list, (aside from less noise pollution and maintenance/smell) would be an effort to cut ties on fossil fuel dependencies. Surprised he didn't at least attempt to answer your question considering he seems to be replying to most every comment in this thread (which I imagine is mostly motivated by channel growth aspirations). Anywho.. as I said, I think info on battery queries would be of the most helpful relevant concerns any perspective buyer with no previous experience in this market would need and want to know. Let's hear in-depth details about the batteries too! And thank you. Other than that, great video!

    Hello Sir: I wanted to actually purchase the new EGO LM2156SP, based on your very excellent review! Went to our nearest (but distant) Lowe’s and they told me they had it. Got there only to find that they ADVERTISED the 2156SP, BUT showed me the LM2150SP…
    We went over and over stats and after a lot of painful checking and calling an EGO representative from the store floor, (I think) we accurately concluded BOTH the 2150 AND the
    2156 versions end up…the same???
    Oddly, the manual had an area showing
    2150/2156. Huuuunh ? These kind of numbers confuse & frustrate the public trying to achieve a product they want for specific characteristics!
    Can you clarify ? I ended up taking the
    LM2150SP. It was 56 A. It had a 10 Amp battery.
    Seemed to have same stats, size, power, charger as the 2156.

      I know this is an old video. But I’m glad I saw it. I’m sold on Battery powered mowers. I purchased a used Greenworks 16” 40v a few years ago and was very pleased with how well it cut tough, tall grass given its small size. I liked the fact that I didn’t have to worry about gas going stale if I forgot to store it properly in winter. So when the battery failed , I decided to get a larger mower rather than just replacing the battery. I got a display unit 60v greenworks 21 inch. Seems identical to yours except mines not self propelled. And the second battery slot is just for storage. I’m even more pleased. Although it’s relatively heavy, pushing isn’t that hard. Don’t think I’ll ever go back to a gas mower. I also love the fact that I can turn it on its side for cleaning or removing something caught around the blade without worrying about fuel or oil spilling or carburetor flooding.

      Greenworks is on clearance at certain Lowe's locations for $250! Just do a store search and select the location for their price.

    l guess I'll wait until 2021 to see what Greenworks, has in the works... no pun intended 😊 I just can't see paying $650 for an Ego and though I like the Greenworks, I don't love the handle as it seems very, very weak 🤔

      @@TechMadeEzy I've tried, but I haven't found one in Michigan.
      Have you heard of Greenworks leaving Lowe's or them coming out with a new mower, because they need to because Ego is going to steal a ton of their business.
      Thanks for answering my questions.

      @@TechMadeEzy Just purchased a Toro floor model for $299 with the 60v battery and charger. I'm going to purchase an additional battery. I just ordered the Leaf Blower and Trimmer.

      On this head to head yes, Greenworks sure is close but Ryobi hasn’t proved themselves from my experience.

    Forget ego, I had purchased a ego trimmer and blower kit, last year, the battery charger burn up and I could not charge the battery, I kept calling ego for a couple of months but could never get thru to ego, finely gave up and threw the damm charger and battery away!

      Sorry to hear Herman, definitely not the normal experience EGO offers.
