      Kirk I do trap other species that you mentioned and once in awhile I even get a wolf but mainly lynx trapping but we are on a down cycle for the lynx population at the moment so I am just playing with beaver and resting my lynx line, I am also a fur buyer and that takes up much of my time as well but I will try to get some video when I get a chance.

    Looking at the Alaska weather report looks like you are getting some snow. We have lots. Pulled my trap in the mountains today and some big drifts up there. Going to look into those Thompson snares not doing good with 330s

      +muskrat411 I wish, we still have rain here,but cleared a bit today and now have some ice running down the river finally.Hoping we hit the eels here soon $1.50 a lb that's like $ 3 Canadian :)

      @muskrat411 8 років тому

      I really got to learn to snare all the $400,00 bills swimming around under the ice and I'm not getting any.
      People actually pay foe eels?

      +muskrat411 Just set on a stick ,like I am doing in the video, one set on each side of the grub pile with three snares on each pole, you will catch no problem,set a few house. conibears are a lot of work.And yes they do buy the eels and smoke them, try in a sushi bar sometime pretty good.

      +yukonjeffimagery I set two sets I only set on one side of the feed pile though the ice is not very thick and is under 8" of overflow not very safe. I was testing the ice with my chisel and it went right through one soft hit. Also I only set 2 snares on my pole I did not know how to set the length of the the snares. Plus I had soft wire wolf snares so they didn't sit very well. When I check I may set more on the other side if I can find more snares.

      +muskrat411 Good luck, be careful if its not freezing at night, the snared beaver will pop out of the hole and go for a walk sometimes :)

    Sweet video! Maybe you can show us how to clean skin. I've tried it one and off for the last couple years and haven't been able to get it. Be safe out there!

    • @yukonjeffimagery
      @yukonjeffimagery  9 років тому

      Thanks Temple, To clean skin you need a good round nosed knife like in the video and just keep your finger underneath the skin as you slowly clean skin you will feel your finger underneath and it helps to guide your cuts, Just go slow until you get the hang of it and you will get good with practice I clean skin otter too its nice to be done all at once without having to flesh.
      I might do a video someday. :)

      Thanks
      They are pretty good eating if cooked right.
      I use a pressure cooker and 20 mins and the meat falls off the bone and I use whats left of the juice to make gravy for the spuds,they are good baked too.

    You see me snarring beaver on my latest video? Got 3 on 2 poles. Using a different method but I still want to make the Thompson snares work. I think I will have to set them in shallow water near the house.
    You started your trapping season yet?

  • @HaNsWiDjAjA
    @HaNsWiDjAjA Рік тому

    Great video as usual Jeff!
    Do you just cut the ice and set the snare pole at the den entrance? If so how do you figure out where the entrance is? Or do you just sort of set it somewhere next to the house and hope for the best?

    • @yukonjeffimagery
      @yukonjeffimagery  Рік тому +1

      I usually set one set on both sides of the feed pile facing the house usually works. I also look for breaks in the feed pile and air bubbles in the ice if its clear ice thats the best way to see the channel. Also hard bottom means a channel they travel.

    0 luck on the beaver snares today, beaver just chew my bait sticks down and don't get caught. I'll wait for the Thompson snares to come in before I try again. My lynx trap caught a rabbit so at least Musky is happy with the days catch.
    I set that open creek, but it froze some so my plan to use a leg hold did not work out and I set a 330 on an a frame at the door. So hopefully there is beaver in there they should get caught.

    • @yukonjeffimagery
      @yukonjeffimagery  8 років тому

      +muskrat411 Some tend to do that,even with snares. they get smart sometimes :)We got a bit of snow like two inches, still not enough to travel, my net spot In front of the house is frozen now, but its broken ice and slush underneath, I might see if I can still set my net there anyway. Good luck!

    I ordered a dozen beaver snares from Thompson snares
    I will post a video once they come in. You use the same snares for 🐺?

    • @yukonjeffimagery
      @yukonjeffimagery  8 років тому

      +muskrat411 Depends I like the 2-XX-72" for beaver and 0 X 30 " for fox, the 1X 60" will work for both and 30s will work in some beaver sets.

    • @muskrat411

      Probably only use them for beaver anyways good price on them to. But I have not hot a price on the shipping though.
      It is snowing blankets again today.

      @yukonjeffimagery  8 років тому

      +muskrat411 Should of ordered a few dozen they pay for themselves pretty easy. And good they ship to Ca, a lot of places wont ship to Alaska even though we are part of the states.

      +muskrat411 went and checked the snares today the first ones were dropped and the bait chewed off. The other set was not touched so I figure that house has no beaver.
      I found some fence wire so I may go out and reinforce then 🐺 snares tomorrow do they don't drop. can't wait for the Thompson's ro get here.
      might set some lynx sets tomorrow also.

      +muskrat411 Give it a few days,if the grub pile has green willow its a live house.I check every two days. sounds like fun !, still rain here :(

    What's with the folk music? Athrax not available? Mettalica, White Snake, KISS?
    You just hang three snares down and put a bait stick between them? Wow that is super easy compared to the other methods I have been watching. How you keep your snares round? just stiff wire?

    • @yukonjeffimagery
      @yukonjeffimagery  9 років тому

      I could not find Willy Nelsons "On the Road Again" lol
      It is a simple set that works good, you don't even need the bait poles if you set in a good spot try it ,you will see.
      I use Thompson snares they are good snares nice and stiff not like those limp wristed snares I see a lot of guys using , these work great for wolves too.

    Y2J do me a favor, check out my latest beaver video. There is a part in there about a beaver house in an open Creek. Can you take a look at it and see if you think it is worth trying to trap. I don't see a feed pile so I don't know if there is beaver in there or not. I would really appreciate the information

    Watched this video again trapping really poor. Lots of ugly big drifts out on the land. Looked on Google Earth and figured we found the marten mother load but broke trail and no tracks. Fun bombing through the powder with the Tundra. Tundra is better in the deep snow then the Voyager.
