Stu Folsom of Spiritworld - Interview

- What happens when you blend elements of hardcore, death metal and country? You get Spiritworld!
Set in singer and multi-instrumentalist Stu Folsom’s apocalyptic, vision of the American West, SpiritWorld is metal at its most rustic and blood drenched. Think Slayer and Pantera getting into a bar fight while gunslingers battle demonic entities amidst tomahawk like riffs.
SpiritWorld emerged in 2017 as a musical outlet for Folsom’s love of punk, outlaw country and metal, taking a decidedly outlaw roots punk bent. Yet, it was with the full-metal direction of the initially self-released Pagan Rhythms, (re-released in 2021 through SpiritWorld's new label home, Century Media) that won the band international acclaim. Daniel Carter, BBC 1 DJ and curator of The Rock Show with Daniel P. Carter, as well as the likes of Exodus/Slayer guitarist Gary Holt and former Sepultura/current Soulfly leader Max Cavalera sang the album’s praises on their social media, discovering the band on word-of-mouth alone.

Spiritworld is easily the most interesting metal band I’ve heard in the last 5-10 years.
Please don’t do it Stu, keep it heavy. Pagan Rhythms & Deathwestern are absolute masterpieces. Immediately purchased both on vinyl after hearing you on liquid metal. Come to New England, have to see you live!
I just want to see what all they come up with heavy or not haha 🔥
Best metalcore band of the past 10 years! Deathwestern is a perfect 10/10
Best New band I've found. Great job stu
Saw Spirit World 2 times this year in Seattle and will see them whenever I can in the future! Spoke with Stu between bands at the merch table and he was very nice and humble. I love what he does and can't wait to for what he does next.
Both spirit world albums are great
I'm obsessed with the 2 albums. Brilliant. 🤘🏼
My Dad had Slayer in their prime in the 80s, I got Spirit World in their prime in the 2020s🤘🏼 Can’t wait to see them in San Antonio!
I love both Spirit World albums. Its like if a bunch of Cowboys were sitting around the camp fire and decided to start Slayer, minus Kerry King.
Spiritworld, without a shadow of doubt, wear their influences on the nudie-suit sleeves. I hear those bands mentioned… For me, it’s ‘Bush-era’ Ministry. And that’s not an insult in any shape or form.
I frikkin love this band. Big Things are a-coming for them. Looking forward to hearing that third part of the trilogy 🖤🥃🤟🏼
Very well said!
Can’t wait to see them on Klash of the Titans. I’m leaving after Death Angel!
