Which Is The BEST SEASON In MLB HISTORY?

- The 2001 Seattle Mariners recorded the most wins in a season of all time, finishing 116-46.
The next closest team in wins that year was the New York Yankees with 95 wins, the team that just so happened to eliminate them from the playoffs.
However, the Yankees would go on to lose the World Series to the 92 win Arizona Diamondbacks, a series that went 7 games, and a series that ended on a blown save by the best closer of all time, Mariano Rivera.
That same year, Deion Sanders made his return to baseball, AJ Burnett threw a no-hitter where he also walked 9 batters, and Randy Johnson struck out 16 Padres players in a single relief appearance, a record that has stood to this day.
Was 2001 the best year in baseball, though?
In this video I try to determine which year in baseball history was historically the greatest - a tall task indeed, but stay tuned to see how I do it

01 was easily the greatest baseball season ever. Between bonds and the mariners/ichiro, there was something special happening every night, it seemed. The way the WS went down was just the cherry on top
Gtfo griffery is way better then ichiro
And it had the 12-run comeback by the (then) Indians over the Mariners!
@Shel230 in what way of playing the game of baseball was junior better in outside of power? Ichiro is possibly the best hitter ever, ran the bases better, and played better defense with a much stronger arm. And junior wasn't even on the team that year
@@joshlewis575 way better catcher to remember he got injured if he didn't he would've had a way better carrer that he alerday had u obviously must not watch alot of baseball
@@joshlewis575 cause ur baseball knowledge is horrible
I'm so glad the 2006 season is getting love! I was a baseball fan before but I became a baseball superfan because of that season. So many teams even the underachieving ones were so interesting to me. The marlins had a rookie outburst with hanley ramirez and dan uggla, the tigers were so good with such random names like brandon inge and craig monroe, the dodgers who weren't that good hit 4 homeruns in a row to tie the game in the 9th and then nomar hit a walk off in the 10th. I swear that season had so many memorable moments from every team good and bad and I love it.
2001 was the best season. There were so many interesting storylines that year.
1998 all eyes were on Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa the entire year. The sports media and non-sports media couldn't stop talking about it.
2003 POST SEASON! It had everything from Steve Bartman to Aaron Boone. And all the playoff series that year were exciting and were all great!!!
1991 was amazing too. One of the Best World Series ever. Nolan Ryan 7th no-hitter and Rickey Henderson broke the Stolen Base Record on May 1, 1991 (the same day).
2003 Season Florida Marlins were the underdogs in the playoffs nobody predicted them to go to the world series and then they upset the heavily favored New York Yankees
@@MightyDuckofAnaheim200203 big deal more people were upset about Cubs and Red Soz that year. Marlins fell apart within 2 years.
@@jimnfl7134 true that is the real facts
2022 was a good year too in terms of accolades, drama, storylines and a great playoffs
Honestly that may be my next video
@@thefinzchats Awesome!!
Seeing the Astros win again was boring.
@@alwillkit was a statement tho
The greatest game I ever seen in sports is game 6 2011 World Series ❤ you talk about "never say die", gives me chills
Actually the second most wins in the 2001 season was the A’s finishing 102-60. They came in second in the division to the Mariners!
That's crazy
The SI cover you put in for the 1982 World Series was actually from 1985. The Cardinals played the Brewers, not the Royals in 1982.
Correction: Ripkin's consecutive game streak ended in 98. He didn't retire until after 2001.
Was going to type this b4 i saw you had beat me to it
🤓
The 2001 Seattle Mariners were actually underdogs against the Yankees in the playoffs
1991 for sure as World Series TV ratings never got that huge again.
1908 was insane, especially in the NL..but most people wouldn’t care because it was so long ago. 1967 went down to the wire in the AL. 2004 was special…not just for the Sox ending the curse, but also for coming back from being down 3-0.
Having said all that, 1998 might have been the best season ever. The HR race captivated the country and brought fans back to baseball.
It's weird, I always see people say that the '98 season brought fans back to the game and whatnot but my experience is the complete opposite. Me and everyone i knew who liked baseball completely lost interest when the video game numbers started. The PED's made the game into a joke. I know it wasn't quite common knowledge at the time yet that Sosa/McGwire (and others) were juicing. People were either willful ignorant or just didn't care because it had been blatantly obvious to anyone with half a brain for a few years that it was happening. I at least got back into baseball in the late 2000's, after PED testing and suspensions became routine but a lot of others i knew never really got back into it at all, they all watch football and UFC now. I totally understand the whole idea about that season bringing a lot of people back after the strike and all but apparently i somehow didn't know any of those people.
@@unkledoda420 The strike in '94 drove away countless fans. Ripken chasing Gehrig's record recaptured a portion of that lost fan base. The home run record chase also brought many of them back. The difference between those two seasons, in my opinion, was day-to-day variability. If the Orioles played a double header, Ripken could (and did) get two games closer to Gehrig...but that's it; a slow and steady march towards the record. The home run chase was different. On any random summer day in "98, McGwire, Sosa, and Griffey could have a multi-homer game or get collared with an 0-fer. Either way, though, fans who left were returning to the game and these record-setting performances. Of course, the resurgence in popularity would have been less pronounced if MLB didn't lose so many fans by going on strike in the first place.
I remember the 1908 season, I was -96 years old and my memory is a bit fuzzy but it was definitely one to behold
Pretty sure Ripken played his final year in 2001 cause him and Gwinn both were at that all star game and Ripkin hit 2 bombs.
Maybe his last FULL season.
Yeah I was thinking…
!967 American League pennant chase. There will never be another like it.
2002 - I have a bias there since my team won it all but 2004 was nice seeing the Yanks choke against "enemy of my enemy" Red Sox. I would have rooted for the Angels in first round anyways because the movie usually ended bad for Boston. Thanks for proving us wrong after the Papi homer in the ALCS....and giving Orlando Cabrerra to my team for 3 years.
Schilling is a MAGAt punk, though.
How can you miss the 1986 season? Clemens’ 20 strikeout game!
Bert Blijleven reached his 3000th strikeout
The Best Rookie class ever (Bonds, Palmeiro, Maddux, Larkin, Canseco, Joyner)
The best postseason EVER (Comeback Red Sox, the NLCS battle between Astros and Mets, and of course the Bill Buckner error)
They shouldn't have kept walking Bonds so much to give him first base. They should have purposly hit him with the ball , and then gave him first base.
The 1975 Reds were probably the finest team since the 1930s Yankees. The following World Series with the Red Sox was one of the greatest as well. I felt sorry for Boston that year.
In 1976 the Reds swept the Yankees for the title. Alas, the Reds management dismantled the team the following year.
As soon as I clicked on this video, your own video about 1968 came up as a suggested video. I thought that might warrant a mention in this video as well.
In 1978 the Red Sox also came back, after being down 3 1/2 games on Sept. 16. They caught up on the last day of the season.
The Mets and Dodgers are two completely different franchises. The fact that the Dodgers still exist and you still said that means you lose ALL credibility.
Gosh...it's gotta 98 or 01. 2004 deserves honorable mention just because of the red Sox, 2008 had a crazy 163rd game, 2011 great world series, 2016 Amazing world series...I don't know I'll say 2001
1986 1998 2001 2003 are the most stand out years in baseball to me
‘03 was really good and so was ‘01 in my lifetime.
2004. It has nothing to do with me being a Boston Red Sox fan. Nothing at all.
Ya as a Sox fan I'd have to go with 2004 all day.
1991 was the best World Series of all time. 1986 was the best postseason of all time.
Sorry, Finz, the 2001 Mariners *tied* the Chicago Cubs' MLB record for most games won in a season but are still second in winning percentage (116-46 v 116-36) They played and lost 10 more games in the season. Pretty hard to set a record when only duplicating a previous accomplishment. Cheers....
good take
Best individual seasons would be a great video. Here are my nominees to be widdled down to 3-5
2001 Ichiro
2004 Ichiro
2001 John Olerud
2022 Aaron Judge
2022 Shohei Otahni
1941 Ted Williams
1977 Rod Carew
2002 Randy Johnson
2000 Pedro Martinez
My next video was going to be on the best individual pitching season of all time
Need a Bonds season cmon bro. Good list though.
@@thejmc4074 nope. No Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, Canseco, or A-Rod.
@@BoiseFreerunner One of those eh?

1998. I don't even like baseball and I was interested.
Man I don't want to be a snowflake but Randy Johnson would HATE that clip of him killing the bird. That is all.
98 saved baseball. Enough said
2011 is a sleeper. Crazy end/classic World Series
The wild wildcard chase leading to the craziness of the final night (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Major_League_Baseball_wild_card_chase). I may be biased, being a Cardinals fan.
2:39 are you saying the Mets used to be the Dodgers? I’m confused because the Dodgers still exist just now the in Los Angeles not Brooklyn
2011
I mean, if you want to get technical, nothing captivated the nation like the 1998 season in my lifetime. But all of this is completely biased. The 1941 season captivated the entire nation.
That report from MLB were succeful The only things that i didnt see was players to grand jury to confesss how fell in trap when many had good Numbers before steroid being they had good carrers in the MLB
Your 1998 facts are all wrong
98 put mlb back on the map and created a lot of new fans I remember the he chase and being from Washington becoming a fan of the kid
Cal Ripken had a fun career.
pretty sure youtube doesnt care about saying pandemic anymore
Wrong, 1998 was NOT Cal Ripken's final season (His streak ended that year). 2001 was! 6:59! I think Minnesota Sports is cursed since 1991.
Apologies
@zchats That's ok. I remember his home run in the 2001 All-Star Game and have many Cards of Ripken is how i know! *Did make a Video of 1989 the Worst YEAR in MLB History!*
2001 by far the best
Tie between 98 and 01
2016 hands down
What about 2004?
I mean it’s UA-cam I can’t make a two hour video
1998 was not cal ripken's final season lol
2001 was the best.
2001 this isn't close.
1991 for me personally. It was the first season i really started paying close attention to and watching baseball as a kid.
6:57 Ripken's final season was 2001.
98 wasn't Cal Ripken's final year...
My b
04 best postseason ever cardinals Astros criminally slept on because sox coming back from 3-0
Once the MLB teams began kneeling to the Nat'l Anthem in 2020...I lost total interest in watching the game I once loved.
Nobody cares about your feelings cupcake.
How about 1985?
The mariners didn't lose any set of games that entire season. They had a couple 4game sets that were 2-2.
Yeah they did they lost 2/3 to the blue jays may 4-6 and 2/3 to the Yankees may 18-20 2/3 angels June 22-24 and 2/3 to Oakland June 26-28 2/3 to kc july 24-26. Got swept in 3 game series vs Oakland sept 21-23. Not that hard to look up but they lost plenty of series that year.
Did you forget Bonds hit 73 Bombs in 01'? Or George Bush threw a strike? Ichiro/Pujols dominating their rookie seasons?
THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING W! even if you hate the man, that was the greatest first pitch ever thrown. In a bullet proof vest, the full 60ft 6in right over the plate. And the decision to through from the mound was last minute.
Yea makes it even crazier sheesh

I know - no more baseball content from me
Easily 1998. And I don't care about the roids. They still take roids these days anyway.
The "big home run race" killed baseball for me. It was so obvious that something was up.
2017 Go Stros
Best WS EVER took place in 2016. Two of the most tortured teams in MLB history in a classic 7 game series. Wanted my Tribe to win...but wasn't too sad they lost to the Cubbies. Now MLB is 100% unwatchable with ALL this wokeness.
