An excellent list. A little too much recency bias in the second ten. The only problem I have is that Lefty Grove was not on it. He should have replaced Greg Maddux. Clemens, and both Johnson's and Martinez were right on. And this oversight was merely another example.
My father was one of the smartest baseball people I ever met. I once ask him who would be the first player you would take to build a winning dominate team…his answer…Pete Rose…
I am sorry but the second you had pitchers on this kind of killed it for me. They deserve their own list! Also no steroid players should be allowed and believe me I love a lot of them!
How can you leave Nolan Ryan off the list a 27-year career 5,000-plus strikeouts 7 no-hitters 12 one-hit games how many 18 19 strikeout games You could cut Nolan Ryan's career up and have three Hall of Fame careers
If he had been on the Yankees or the Big Red machine that percentage would have been much higher and he would have had like 450 - 600 wins with maybe 200 losses
@@jeffzawislak1737 This is one thing I like about modern analysis. Wins and losses have a lot to do with the teams you're on, especially with players like Ryan. A 3.19 era and 5.7k strikeouts..........how do you not put him on a list of greatest players?

How could you possibly not include the Great One - Roberto Clemente! Clemente didn’t get his deserved recognition when he played, nor does he get it now.
YES. F the juicers. If Pete Rose isn't in the hall for something that MIGHT have affected games, BB, MMcG, RC, JC, ARod, etc should be banned from the game too. F'n cheaters. I think you must have a catcher on here. Johnny Bench or Yogi Berra (I lean Bench because he was such a great fielder and catcher is a fielding-first position.) Or Josh Gibson -- but including NL players opens a whole can of worms. Mike Schmidt (3B) probably also belongs. And as much as I didn't care for him and that he was one-dimensional offensively, Pete Rose. His tenacity and longevity can't be overlooked. (Frank Robinson, Roberto Clemente, Christy Mathewson, Grover Alexander other **possible** omissions.)
Pedro shouldn't even be sniffing the list of top 50! You didn't have Nolan Ryan, Pete Rose, Mark McGuire, Tony Gwinn, Ernie Banks, or dozens of other player you left out, who far surpassed some players on this list.
Pete Rose is the most overrated player ever along with DiMaggio. The dude was absolutely terrible his last 7-8 seasons, and purposefully kept himself in the lineup to break the hits record, even when he knew he was terrible.
@@nicholasschroeder3678 He had a 112 career ERA+ and had only 83 war in 27 years, there are at least fifteen or more pitchers better than him. Also Ryan didn’t even have a career 10ks per nine he is in no way the best strikeout pitcher.
Crazy how a player like Ty Cobb is in but players these days get sooooo scrutinized for way less nasty behavior and actions….i see what baseball be doing though😅😭
I'm a cincinnati native and the griffy years were horrible. I think he was a generational talent. But there was other guys on the list that were better, or longer more productive careers
Read about the Negro league star Josh Gibson. The few times he played against major league star pitchers, he destroyed them. If he had played in the MLB he probably would have had the most home runs of any player.
@@fr2ncm9He did not destroy the mlb. He did not hit well at all against them. But Babe Ruth massacred the negro leagues. He averaged a home run against th around every 7 at bats and batted .455 against them.
Im tired of people not providing any reasons why they think so. Cobb was indeed great, but he was not better than Ruth. Ruth had a higher OBP, higher slugging, higher ops, higher ops+, and a higher WAR and a better peak. Ruth is the greatest and it’s really not close.
Stan the man was the best switch hitter. A 331 average from the right side and 331 from the left. That is the best ever. He sustained that average over 22 years. No slack in his game.
My thing is back in the day. 1950 and before. The talent was no where near what it is today.. the competition and athleticism was no where near what it is today. Baseball players today are significantly more athletic than those of 60 years ago primarily due to advancements in training methods, nutrition science, better understanding of the human body, increased emphasis on year-round conditioning, and a more competitive landscape where only the most elite athletes make it to the professional level, resulting in a higher overall athletic ability across the league. ....so in my opinion its very hard to compare and rank ...players of then and today
20 Players is too short when having both pitcher and regular players. Trout is too high and shouldn't be included he has way too many years to go still IMO. Plus, his last five years have been incomplete and injury plagued.
Idec about the rest of the list but if bonds isn’t 1 u just simply haven’t looked at baseball stats regardless of steroids they don’t teach u how to hit a ball and get over 2000 walks
Wrong, the steroids increased his bat speed and as a result raised his average and power. He also took HGH which improved his eyesight to that of a twenty year old. If Willie Mays took the drugs Bonds did he would have hit 800 or more home runs and batted 400.
It still takes great hand ,eye coordination the great cheater as some of u call them still did what they did I should be applauded for their accomplishments
Honus Wagner at number 12? WHAT!? He is top-five, easily. Bill James had him at number TWO. His 1908 season was the best in history- he league in EVERY SINGLE offensive category except home runs- Hits, walks, steals, singles, doubles, triples, average, slugging, OBP, RBI, etc. (and this was in the dead ball era) AND, he was far and away the best shortstop in the game... Leading in put-outs, double plays, errors, etc. ...And that season wasn't much better than his average seasons- he played for 15+ years, and was productive in all of them. ...12th? C'mon.
I would put Griffey if he didn't have all those injuries in the top 5. Jr over 600 homers and tremendous center fielder. He was the best in my time after 1960

won-lost record..........235-82...................................219-100
ERA.............................2.75........................................2.93
ERA+...........................168.........................................154
bWAR..........................95.7.........................................86.1
WAR/250....................8.46.........................................7.61
But wthou question Lefty Grove is the most under-rated superstar in MLB history. And this oversight was merely another example.
Ted Williams at number 6 is wrong. Top 3
Ted was a pretty bad base runner, and was pretty mediocre defensively
Ten years from now Shohei ⚾️htani might be #1 as the GOAT 🐐
No one but Ruth ever will be.
Ohtani already is the greatest baseball player in history.
@@kaitai5900He doesn’t have the counting stats. Ohtani is great, but he NEEDS the counting stats.
Not with all the Ks and right now his lifetime Batting Average is 44 pts lower than Ruth's
Mariano Rivera? Derek Jeter? Pete Rose? Wade Boggs?
What if Babe Ruth. Started his career as hitting outfield only with no pitching ( 5 years as pitcher )
.what would be his total home runs.?
My father was one of the smartest baseball people I ever met. I once ask him who would be the first player you would take to build a winning dominate team…his answer…Pete Rose…
Pete Rose over Mickey Mantle? See a shrink.
Aaron Judge didnt play long enough but right now is the best i ever saw. And i saw Mays Aaron Williams im 75 years old.
frank robinson
Baseball is the most subjective when it comes to the greatest of all time
IKR, very subjective.
I am sorry but the second you had pitchers on this kind of killed it for me. They deserve their own list! Also no steroid players should be allowed and believe me I love a lot of them!
Agree
I agree about the pitchers. They need their own list.
WHY ON EARTH IS WALTER JOHNSON AT 9
How are you going to have Mike Trout and not Albert Pujols?
No problem with the pictured ones being the top three.
How can you leave Nolan Ryan off the list a 27-year career 5,000-plus strikeouts 7 no-hitters 12 one-hit games how many 18 19 strikeout games
You could cut Nolan Ryan's career up and have three Hall of Fame careers
The guy lost almost as many games as he won. His career winning % was only .513. Barely a .500 pitcher.
@@Grizzlied555 % was almost 53%. W% is not how you evaluate a pitched. He had a career era of 3.19. If he had teams as good as Maddux, he'd have a much higher winning %. Do you not know how team sports work?
Ryan was not as good as everyone thought he was.
How could you possibly not include the Great One - Roberto Clemente! Clemente didn’t get his deserved recognition when he played, nor does he get it now.
Given the many prime years that Teddy Ballgame was at war, he should be about #4.
Where do you put Rogers Hornsby and his .358 avg
To have PED users sharing a list with clean players is absurd
BONDS DOESNT BELONG THERE
Mike Schmidt needs to be on this list. Should keep pitchers and hitters separate.
NO CHEATERS Will Ever be a great ball player, period
How about the 1927 NY Yankee's Murderer Row?
YES. F the juicers. If Pete Rose isn't in the hall for something that MIGHT have affected games, BB, MMcG, RC, JC, ARod, etc should be banned from the game too. F'n cheaters. A little baseline or an emeroy board is one thing- injecting, abusing, and cheating by using illegal drugs is another altogether!
(Re: Rose- I get they Giamatti had to come down on him so hard- Baseball is still dealing with gambling and 1919. Still, I hope he gets in the hall, even if it has to be post mortum, as his final punishment.
If Bonds, Clemens, etc, ever get in they deserve a bunch of big fat asterisks ******!
Maybe Bob Euker should be on the list...oh, wait...this is a top 20 NOT just 20...lol
Pete Rose was terrible his last 7-8 seasons. Good player, but overrated.
It was a crappy list 😢
Pedro shouldn't even be sniffing the list of top 50! You didn't have Nolan Ryan, Pete Rose, Mark McGuire, Tony Gwinn, Ernie Banks, or dozens of other player you left out, who far surpassed some players on this list.
Mark used peds. Rose used amphetamines. They cheated.
I presume you meant Mark McGwire, otherwise I have no idea who Mark McGuire is
Pete Rose is the most overrated player ever along with DiMaggio. The dude was absolutely terrible his last 7-8 seasons, and purposefully kept himself in the lineup to break the hits record, even when he knew he was terrible.
Bonds no before steroids a good HOF player.
Bonds had 4 mvps and 6 gold gloves and almost 500 home runs before steroids
@@joel8692 And responsible for the Pirates losin 3 consecutive NLCS playoffs .
So no , Clemente and Rose are much better .
You've got a great list, but there are others who deserve to be there like Nolan Ryan!!!
IKR
Ty Cobb #1
No frank Robinson FOH
Lou Gehrig , Done
A top 20 list with Ichiro ahead of Rickey Henderson. You are disqualified from ever discussing anything about baseball ever again.
You should have separate list for pitchers
Why you gotta show that Rajai Davis home run in the beginning. It still makes my stomach drop
You cant have Willy Mays but no Barry Bonds. Bonds was HOF on both sides of the ball before he doped up.
Well he doped up
The slander of Cobb must stop. He was neither a racist, nor a cleat sharpener.
Tom Seaver before Pedro Martinez all day
#1 Easy….Mickey Mantle barring his bad knees. Nobody compares! #2….Jackie Robinson.
Did I miss Mantle
i dont care what anybody says but Bonds is #1 90% of the league was doing at the time
Where is nolan ryan???
he was a slightly above .500 pitcher and is not a top 20 player-Seaver and Gibson belong before him as well as Bob Feller-and where is Sandy Koufax?
Koufax and Ryan both don’t deserve to be on here.
No Albert Pujols? What a joke.
Pujols used drugs
Sandy Koufax and Roberto Clemente.
Well no Clemente, u know what world we live in. Nuff said .
Bonds 7th? Please...
Did I miss Nolan Ryan and Bob Gibson?!?
Nolan Ryan is not a top 20 player of all time.
Nolan ryan isn't even top 50
Ryan was the best pitcher--ever--at striking players out AND keeping them from getting hits. AND he did it over an incredibly long career.
@@nicholasschroeder3678 He had a 112 career ERA+ and had only 83 war in 27 years, there are at least fifteen or more pitchers better than him. Also Ryan didn’t even have a career 10ks per nine he is in no way the best strikeout pitcher.
@@nicholasschroeder3678He lost almost as many games as he won. His winning % was a weak .513
Crazy how a player like Ty Cobb is in but players these days get sooooo scrutinized for way less nasty behavior and actions….i see what baseball be doing though😅😭
What nasty behavior is that? Bullshit
Anyone that claims they are the greatest gets excluded from consideration. So eliminate Mays.
Yes. Plus Mays set almost no records and used amphetamines.
Lol wow thats some stupid logic.
Ted Williams came pretty close to calling himself the greatest.
Nah
@@Grizzlied555ok
Nolan Ryan had the MOST Noah offers in Baseball but he could not crack the list???
Noah offers is from me not paying attention to the Ali auto correct...should be no-hitters, but no ah offers kinda makes sense also...lol
I'm a cincinnati native and the griffy years were horrible. I think he was a generational talent. But there was other guys on the list that were better, or longer more productive careers
You have Mike Trout over Joe D, this is absolutely crazy and this list is BOGUS
Mike Trout will probably be better than DiMaggio soon anyways.
@@spacedude1145 that's delusional
@Ramone-gf9ss Trout has a better career OPS, OPS+, OBP, and Slugging. Also has better WAR.
AI made this entire video. It’s so apparent with the commentary
I think you enjoyed watching 90s/00 baseball. They are way over represented.
Where’s Derek jeter??
Cobb is number ONE period.
Al kaline, Clemente, Albert, Mathewson, etc
Dave “ King Kong “ Kingman .
Stan the man was the best switch hitter. A 331 average from the right side and 331 from the left. That is the best ever. He sustained that average over 22 years. No slack in his game.
Stan Musial was a left handed batter not a switch hitter
My thing is back in the day. 1950 and before. The talent was no where near what it is today.. the competition and athleticism was no where near what it is today. Baseball players today are significantly more athletic than those of 60 years ago primarily due to advancements in training methods, nutrition science, better understanding of the human body, increased emphasis on year-round conditioning, and a more competitive landscape where only the most elite athletes make it to the professional level, resulting in a higher overall athletic ability across the league.
....so in my opinion its very hard to compare and rank ...players of then and today
This voice is clearly AI generated. Was contemplating subbing but I can’t condone the laziness
Babe,Ty,Barry
20 Players is too short when having both pitcher and regular players. Trout is too high and shouldn't be included he has way too many years to go still IMO. Plus, his last five years have been incomplete and injury plagued.
What about Bob feller he lost four yrs to wwtwo
And his team never had great hitters
Idec about the rest of the list but if bonds isn’t 1 u just simply haven’t looked at baseball stats regardless of steroids they don’t teach u how to hit a ball and get over 2000 walks
Wrong, the steroids increased his bat speed and as a result raised his average and power. He also took HGH which improved his eyesight to that of a twenty year old. If Willie Mays took the drugs Bonds did he would have hit 800 or more home runs and batted 400.
The question is, when did he start using steroids. Bonds, I think that he started using Way before it was discovered
It still takes great hand ,eye coordination the great cheater as some of u call them still did what they did I should be applauded for their accomplishments
The list is laughable has alot of great players butl leaves many off of it
esta perfecto muchas gracias.
(and this was in the dead ball era)
AND, he was far and away the best shortstop in the game... Leading in put-outs, double plays, errors, etc.
...And that season wasn't much better than his average seasons- he played for 15+ years, and was productive in all of them. ...12th? C'mon.
Where is Aaron's black ink in the bb ency??? If you don't understand, look it up.
Don’t watch this video! The annoying music that loops over and over and over will have you watching with the sound off.
No baseball person says "point two one one bating average." it's "two eleven"
IKR, definitely an amateur
A pt two one one batting a avg is my good
I would put Griffey if he didn't have all those injuries in the top 5. Jr over 600 homers and tremendous center fielder. He was the best in my time after 1960
Rickey Henderson surpassing Ty Cobb's hallowed runs scored record, how about that?
This the weirdest list i ever heard of....lol
Please leave out those players who used PEDS !
Why is Albert Pujols not here
