Hi guys! love eggs and the perfect soft and hard boiled eggs are beautiful thing. I've got lots more tips including how to store your eggs, how to make them easier to peel and an egg cook timing chart - all on the blog post linked in the video description box. What's your favorite recipe to make with hard and soft boiled eggs? Let me know! xo - Lisa
Downshiftology I'm forever in your debt and grateful. I love eggs and I've never been able to cook an egg soft or medium soft. And let's not even talk about a hard boiled. I always got the dreaded green line. Gross! I've tried several different methods in the past but none worked until now. You're recipe is genius!! Thank you, thank you!!
Nah. I’m 13 trying to have a healthier diet . And I don’t like asking for help so I’m trying to make my own food healthy Cuase if my grandma does it she either adds to much oil on something or just make it unhealthier
My mom never taught me to cook or let anyone in the kitchen, and I grew up on a lot of frozen food, although when she did cook it was better than the restaurants, and have never been a breakfast person, and this was SO helpful, thank you!!
When you're 21 and have been taught your entire life to boil eggs 20 minutes AFTER it comes to a boil and thought the gross green tinge was %100 normal for boiled eggs. I have never eaten a decent boiled egg in my life and tomorrow morning that changes

Ma'am you are a culinary genius. I've been trying to make the medium/soft boiled eggs from my childhood. I sincerely thank you. 6.5 mins is the magic time. I owe you one! Thanks again!
Same, I have this video link in my quick notes with a few notes on which I like best. Every time I read my notes I rewatch to make sure my notes are right. About to make a batch of deviled eggs and I rather prefer 12 minutes for the sake of the filling consistency!

I watched this video and did it faithfully. And I nearly fainted the eggs were perfect. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!
My Aunt was the only one who could make me the perfect, what I call “creamy” eggs. Today, I followed your instructions (8 mins) and they came out just like hers. What a special treat! Thank you so much for sharing.
I just wanted to thank you! I go back to this video for reference monthly (kinda embarrassing) but it never fails me especially when I want to play with different textures. I just realized as I was making deviled eggs for an end of summer block party that I could always count on this video and just how often I’ve used it 🙏🏼💖🙏🏼👼🏻❤️
Tip not mentioned in the video: Once the eggs are in the boiling water, let them cook for ~30sec, then gently roll them around for a minute in the boiling water. This helps the yolk set in the center of the egg. Sometimes the yolk is very close to the edge of the egg, and can be broken while peeling. This can help avoid that.
Hey! I just wanted to say thank you so much - it’s really embarrassing but I’ve struggled to do a boiled egg for so so long, so I felt like a caveman trying to figure out how boiling an egg works. Your video was so concise and really helped me to figure out how long and just how I want my eggs to turn out - thank you!!
I just finished boiling 14 perfect eggs and peeled perfectly 👌. I have never placed eggs into boiling water before. Cooked them just like you said and placed them into the cold water bath. They peeled perfectly. I still like using the back of my tablespoon to break shell and place between the membrane and the egg white on some of them to peel but not a one of them stuck and none of the white was lost. Thank you for this video and instructions.
I have done it both ways and have put them in ice water after boiling before too, but it was always questionable about whether it would work or not. I am going to give it another try. . .
I'm usually afraid to make boiled eggs due to wasting half of them not peeling correctly. This method resulted in perfect boiled eggs that were effortless to remove the shell! Thank you for taking the fear out of boiling eggs! 13 minutes timer set and they were the best boiled eggs i've ever made.
Easiest to peel them is just use spoon, crack egg in the middle put spoon under egg shell and start moving spoon inside to separate shell from egg. In my experience works perfectly every time, no matter how fresh the egg is.
@@etceterax144 DITTO here, I have watched SO many videos on how to get the egg to peel - without ripping half of the white part away. It is always hit-or-miss for me. I haven't tried this exact one yet, but I HAVE put them in cold baths after boiling and it's always a guessing game.
I boiled for 12 minutes, then instead of an ice bath I just dumped out the hot water and ran the pot under cold water in the sink for 5 minutes. Came out 100% perfect.

What makes it definitive is IF it always works for you. I have tried so many times before and have used this process before, but it was always 'iffy' as to whether I would be bringing deviled eggs to the pot luck!!! ha ha I will try this again!
Grew up in middle TN. Have ate 20,000 plus or a minus a few deviled eggs/hard boiled eggs.. never knew how to do this. Now my wife and I have a healthy and quick breakfast choice. Thank you for your knowledge, time, and video quality. Will be back. Love from TN to all my egg eaters
Completely agree with this technique. Only caveat is size of eggs can make quite a difference. Organic eggs here (which I recommend you only eat) vary in size a bit and so you sometimes need to adjust timings up or down a little (though, maybe eggs are all the same size in the US). Also, usually I'm eating the eggs straight away and want them still hot so I only cool them for ~20 seconds in tap water rather than an ice bath.
No eggs are NOT all the same size in the US, you can buy different sized eggs in the store and many people raise their own chicken layers, so who knows what size those eggs will be? Also depends on the breed of hen they have. GOOD TO KNOW about only needing to cool them for a few seconds - THAT was my only real question!
I'm here because I've no idea if I should boil the water first or boil the water with the eggs.. now I know😅😂.. I ended up watching the whole video. I like the 10 mins one✨
Thank you so much! I've been using this tutorial for a few times now and it's just that now I've fully got the swing of it! I'm a teenager and I've made some boiled eggs for my family and they say that they love it! The seasoning I use is lemon pepper and it really hits the spot! I don't have a ice dispenser or an ice cube tray so I just grab a bowl, a lid, fill the bowl up with water, put the lid on, and put it in the freezer just as I'm about to boil the eggs so that when the timer is up, the water is not frozen, but cold.
Thank you so much for this video! The method I learned for hard boiled eggs was definitely overcooking them. The last batch I made before this video was unappealing. I followed your instructions to the letter and tried 8 minute eggs. They turned out just like your video! Genius! I learned that the best way to eat an egg for maximum nutrition power, is for the yolk to be just like the 6 or 8 minute egg cook time, or sunny side up. The 8 minute egg was delicious 😋! Thanks again!👍
I absolutely love hard boiled eggs but have struggled with cooking and especially peeling them. I have to throw half of them away because they were so hard to peel. Today I found your video and tried it. My eggs came out flawless. I was in shock how amazing they turned out and peeling them was so easy and fun. Thank you sooo much!!
I have the SAME problem with the peeling part of it. I can't say this video worked (yet) since I haven't tried it, but HAVE tried this method before. I just like watching it and seeing how perfect they turn out.
You truely dlsaved me. I am learning to cook. I told my wife I will find a new mentor channel on YT. All my eggs for years have had the green layer after boiling on the yoke, despite following videos. I did your 8sec and she said this is the best egg ever. She does not like eggs from pots. I got your 8min egg 100% right. Thank you so much. I will follow ALL your advise. My first perfect dish!!!!
Thank you for this great tutorial and video! I just made the 8 minutes hard boiled eggs for my rabokki. Delicious! ( I did tweaked it to 7 minutes because I didn’t have any ices - just put a bowl of cold water in the freezer for several minutes. 😅 Hey, if it works, it works.)
This is an absolute fool proof method. In my loooong history of cooking eggs I have never found this method, and with a handy dandy timer on my cel phone I was able to cross check it and IT WORKS. Thank you ! The only issue I had is that the COLD eggs stopped the boiling process, but I was able to adjust.
I do 6-7 minute eggs and can play with times in the ice bath to make beautiful, what I call: "one drop sloppy yolks" that leave one drop of golden yellow in my salad or in hand as I eat it as is. Thank you for the best instructions I've ever seen.
Absolutely Awesome ! I have watched SO many "how-to" videos on hard boiled eggs. This video is incredibly simple and clear . youtube should remove ALL HB egg videos and just keep THIS ONE !
Love how perfectly explained each step is. You only missed one step for people who have never stepped foot in a kitchen... but that’s fine I’ll just google how to boil water😂
Don't you love it when someone tells you how to easily do something you REALLY want to do...and it WORKS? I just finished breakfast with (2) poached eggs on toast, smoked bacon and fresh strawberries. YUM! Wanted to try the vortex, so cooked (1) at a time; water was still hot enough & used Orange Muscat Champagne Vinegar (TJ's). Thanks, Lisa :)
Learned a lot thank you. I’ve been cooking for myself for years but every once in awhile I like to go back to basics and see if I can better something.

I have switched to this technique. Makes so much sense.
It sure does! :)
This is still the egg video that i come back too when I forget how to boil an egg lol
thanks so much. I was the worst with boiling eggs. Now thanks to you I will now be perfect at it. God Bless
Oh my goodness thank you! I could never get it right - there is definitely a science to boiling an egg 🥚
When your 67 and can't remember.
Annoying Guy I would say you live up to your name but it was funny
My mom is 67 and starting to signs of dementia. Believe it or not I laughed at this.
Lol I’m going on 70 and had to look this up 😆
Aww, it's okay Gram ♡
hello im 13 next year
I refer to this video EVERY TIME I make hard boiled eggs. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
I still love and watch this video ...anytime I need the perfect boiled eggs 🥚. I am the 7 minutes ones.
Thank you, my dear Lisa ...😊
I like how thorough you are. Most of the videos I watch leave me with unanswered questions. Not so with this video. Nice job.
Me: *watches the whole thing*
Also me: "Oh that looks simple enough. Anyway, Imma ask mom to boil them😌
I absolutely love hard boiled eggs but have struggled with cooking and especially peeling them.
You explained it so simple and easy to understand with a fantastic tutorial 😁
Thanks so much Billy! :)
Downshiftology after your video I made some for work hehe 😀
Glad this video was helpful!!
I set my refrigerated eggs in a bowl of hot water from the sink to bring them up to room temp before boiling.
I’m embarrassed that I have to even watch this 😂 ...update they came out great :) 😂🤷♀️
Sameeeee
Hated boiled eggs until I joined the army. caked them in pepper and salt and they tasted great.
Napanood ko ng 2am ng madaling araw naglaga ako ng egg wala nagutom ako btw very helpful video

I really enjoy the video and that's exactly the what I was looking for for soft boiled eggs. My favorite is 8 minutes eggs. Thank you. 🙏🏼😊

Same ive always hard boiled them my whole life
I do 6-7 minute eggs and can play with times in the ice bath to make beautiful, what I call: "one drop sloppy yolks" that leave one drop of golden yellow in my salad or in hand as I eat it as is. Thank you for the best instructions I've ever seen.
Absolutely Awesome ! I have watched SO many "how-to" videos on hard boiled eggs.
This video is incredibly simple and clear . youtube should remove ALL HB egg videos and just keep THIS ONE !
Glad it was helpful! 😊
Spoken like a true communist.
I watch every time I’m making hard/soft boiled eggs! Perfect, thanks!
Glad this video comes in handy Chris!
Thank you!! I was making a prawn nutella cake, and I wanted to know how to cook a boiled egg for my jelly pudding
Wonderful! 😊
That 8 minute egg was awesome! I've always followed "Julia's" instructions but this is so much easier! Thanks
Wow! I went for the 8 minute eggs, and they are amazing. Thank you so much (:
6 min 46 seconds seems JUST RIGHT for me! 😁❤️
7 min for me, easier to remember XD
Love how perfectly explained each step is. You only missed one step for people who have never stepped foot in a kitchen... but that’s fine I’ll just google how to boil water😂
If you dont know hot to boil water then im deeply troubled for you
And how long in ice bath
Don't you love it when someone tells you how to easily do something you REALLY want to do...and it WORKS? I just finished breakfast with (2) poached eggs on toast, smoked bacon and fresh strawberries. YUM! Wanted to try the vortex, so cooked (1) at a time; water was still hot enough & used Orange Muscat Champagne Vinegar (TJ's). Thanks, Lisa :)
Learned a lot thank you. I’ve been cooking for myself for years but every once in awhile I like to go back to basics and see if I can better something.
It's always a great idea to refresh yourself on the basics 😊
