Hi guys! love eggs and the perfect soft and hard boiled eggs are beautiful thing. I've got lots more tips including how to store your eggs, how to make them easier to peel and an egg cook timing chart - all on the blog post linked in the video description box. What's your favorite recipe to make with hard and soft boiled eggs? Let me know! xo - Lisa
Downshiftology I'm forever in your debt and grateful. I love eggs and I've never been able to cook an egg soft or medium soft. And let's not even talk about a hard boiled. I always got the dreaded green line. Gross! I've tried several different methods in the past but none worked until now. You're recipe is genius!! Thank you, thank you!!
6 mins - soft boiled, liquidy yolk inside 6.5 mins - soft boiled liquidy yolk and a bit jammy (good for topping toast/salads) 8 mins - soft, not liquidy but jammy (good for ramen) 10 mins - medium 12 mins - lightly hard boiled 14 mins - hard boiled, best for potato/egg salads and deviled eggs Updated, clarified 6.5 min.

I love how you systematically labelled the cook times. Also, getting the water to a boil first is a sure way to regulate the times.Your teaching style is delightful!
Tip not mentioned in the video: Once the eggs are in the boiling water, let them cook for ~30sec, then gently roll them around for a minute in the boiling water. This helps the yolk set in the center of the egg. Sometimes the yolk is very close to the edge of the egg, and can be broken while peeling. This can help avoid that.

I just finished boiling 14 perfect eggs and peeled perfectly 👌. I have never placed eggs into boiling water before. Cooked them just like you said and placed them into the cold water bath. They peeled perfectly. I still like using the back of my tablespoon to break shell and place between the membrane and the egg white on some of them to peel but not a one of them stuck and none of the white was lost. Thank you for this video and instructions.
I have done it both ways and have put them in ice water after boiling before too, but it was always questionable about whether it would work or not. I am going to give it another try. . .
I just wanted to thank you! I go back to this video for reference monthly (kinda embarrassing) but it never fails me especially when I want to play with different textures. My Aunt was the only one who could make me the perfect, what I call “creamy” eggs. Today, I followed your instructions (8 mins) and they came out just like hers. What a special treat! Thank you so much for sharing.
I'm usually afraid to make boiled eggs due to wasting half of them not peeling correctly. This method resulted in perfect boiled eggs that were effortless to remove the shell! Thank you for taking the fear out of boiling eggs! 13 minutes timer set and they were the best boiled eggs i've ever made.
Easiest to peel them is just use spoon, crack egg in the middle put spoon under egg shell and start moving spoon inside to separate shell from egg. In my experience works perfectly every time, no matter how fresh the egg is.
@@etceterax144 DITTO here, I have watched SO many videos on how to get the egg to peel - without ripping half of the white part away. It is always hit-or-miss for me. I haven't tried this exact one yet, but I HAVE put them in cold baths after boiling and it's always a guessing game.

Easiest eggs I've ever peeled. Finally have it after 45 yrs of making deviled eggs had to show everyone the shells I was so impressed! Thank you for the tips!
Try 7 minutes and 30 seconds. That my winning time for soft boiled eggs. Also, put in some vinegar into the water which will help peeling with the shell later on.
So like many people here i have watched numerous vudeos, tried my grandmother's and mother's methods and i still ended up doing some or other mistake in either boiling or peeling. Grew up in middle TN. Have ate 20,000 plus or a minus a few deviled eggs/hard boiled eggs.. never knew how to do this. Now my wife and I have a healthy and quick breakfast choice. Thank you for your knowledge, time, and video quality. Will be back. Love from TN to all my egg eaters
Thank you so much for sharing your technique. I've finally made the best hard boiled eggs of my life. I can now make these for my husband and have eggs available for breakfast. 🙌
Thank you so much! I've been using this tutorial for a few times now and it's just that now I've fully got the swing of it! I'm a teenager and I've made some boiled eggs for my family and they say that they love it! The seasoning I use is lemon pepper and it really hits the spot! I don't have a ice dispenser or an ice cube tray so I just grab a bowl, a lid, fill the bowl up with water, put the lid on, and put it in the freezer just as I'm about to boil the eggs so that when the timer is up, the water is not frozen, but cold.
Completely agree with this technique. Only caveat is size of eggs can make quite a difference. Organic eggs here (which I recommend you only eat) vary in size a bit and so you sometimes need to adjust timings up or down a little (though, maybe eggs are all the same size in the US). Also, usually I'm eating the eggs straight away and want them still hot so I only cool them for ~20 seconds in tap water rather than an ice bath.
No eggs are NOT all the same size in the US, you can buy different sized eggs in the store and many people raise their own chicken layers, so who knows what size those eggs will be? Also depends on the breed of hen they have. GOOD TO KNOW about only needing to cool them for a few seconds - THAT was my only real question!
I'm here because I've no idea if I should boil the water first or boil the water with the eggs.. now I know😅😂.. I ended up watching the whole video. I like the 10 mins one✨
You truely dlsaved me. I am learning to cook. I told my wife I will find a new mentor channel on YT. All my eggs for years have had the green layer after boiling on the yoke, despite following videos. I did your 8sec and she said this is the best egg ever. She does not like eggs from pots. I got your 8min egg 100% right. Thank you so much. I will follow ALL your advise. My first perfect dish!!!!
I absolutely love hard boiled eggs but have struggled with cooking and especially peeling them. I have to throw half of them away because they were so hard to peel. Today I found your video and tried it. My eggs came out flawless. I was in shock how amazing they turned out and peeling them was so easy and fun. Thank you sooo much!!
I have the SAME problem with the peeling part of it. I can't say this video worked (yet) since I haven't tried it, but HAVE tried this method before. I just like watching it and seeing how perfect they turn out.
Thank you SO MUCH!! I JUST made my first perfectly boiled eggs thanks to this video. I appreciate that I can learn the things I was not taught as a child on UA-cam.
I was told to watch this video, and he was right, this is the best video I have ever seen on how to boil eggs. They turn out perfect! BTW I had to increase my boiling time by one minute because I am at 5000 feet elevation. Thank you for such a great how to video....
I was trying to do a specific style/firmness of hard boiled egg. Found your vid and did every variation of 6 to 14 minute egg, plus a few others. Perfect! You just got yourself another sub!
Thank you Lisa, boiling eggs was hit and miss and getting others advice was blah blah, must be a million videos on boiling eggs but your way is so simple and consistent, that they turn out as promised.
Thank you for this great tutorial and video! I just made the 8 minutes hard boiled eggs for my rabokki. Delicious! ( I did tweaked it to 7 minutes because I didn’t have any ices - just put a bowl of cold water in the freezer for several minutes. 😅 Hey, if it works, it works.)
What makes it definitive is IF it always works for you. I have tried so many times before and have used this process before, but it was always 'iffy' as to whether I would be bringing deviled eggs to the pot luck!!! ha ha I will try this again!
Thank you so much for this video! The method I learned for hard boiled eggs was definitely overcooking them. The last batch I made before this video was unappealing. I followed your instructions to the letter and tried 8 minute eggs. They turned out just like your video! Genius! I learned that the best way to eat an egg for maximum nutrition power, is for the yolk to be just like the 6 or 8 minute egg cook time, or sunny side up. The 8 minute egg was delicious 😋! Thanks again!👍
Thank you for this thorough tutorial. I have referred to it on numerous occasions throughout the years. When you don't make soft boiled or deviled eggs frequently, this video is a must watch. The eggs come out perfectly every single time. Thanks again.
This is an absolute fool proof method. In my loooong history of cooking eggs I have never found this method, and with a handy dandy timer on my cel phone I was able to cross check it and IT WORKS. Thank you ! The only issue I had is that the COLD eggs stopped the boiling process, but I was able to adjust.
Don't you love it when someone tells you how to easily do something you REALLY want to do...and it WORKS? I just finished breakfast with (2) poached eggs on toast, smoked bacon and fresh strawberries. YUM! Wanted to try the vortex, so cooked (1) at a time; water was still hot enough & used Orange Muscat Champagne Vinegar (TJ's). Thanks, Lisa :)
Absolutely Awesome ! I have watched SO many "how-to" videos on hard boiled eggs. This video is incredibly simple and clear . youtube should remove ALL HB egg videos and just keep THIS ONE !
I do 6-7 minute eggs and can play with times in the ice bath to make beautiful, what I call: "one drop sloppy yolks" that leave one drop of golden yellow in my salad or in hand as I eat it as is. Thank you for the best instructions I've ever seen.
@@rextransformation7418 Nope, she said after a minute in the ice bath that's when she wrote the number on them. She replied to my comment and said to leave the eggs in the ice bath for about 5 minutes.
Learned a lot thank you. I’ve been cooking for myself for years but every once in awhile I like to go back to basics and see if I can better something.
I've always done hard boiled eggs with cold water. Bring to a boil, turn off heat, let it sit. I will not be doing that anymore! This was a very well put together video!

8 mins - soft, not liquidy but jammy (good for ramen)
10 mins - medium

When you are 35 and living alone, went to Costco to bought eggs.. now watching what I can do with it
thanks so much. I was the worst with boiling eggs. Now thanks to you I will now be perfect at it. God Bless
I still love and watch this video ...anytime I need the perfect boiled eggs 🥚. I am the 7 minutes ones.
Thank you, my dear Lisa ...😊
This was EXTREMELY helpful! I've been watching different methods for a long time and nothing is as foolproof as this. Thank you!
You explained it so simple and easy to understand with a fantastic tutorial 😁
Thanks so much Billy! :)
Downshiftology after your video I made some for work hehe 😀
I absolutely love hard boiled eggs but have struggled with cooking and especially peeling them. I have to throw half of them away because they were so hard to peel. Today I found your video and tried it. My eggs came out flawless. I was in shock how amazing they turned out and peeling them was so easy and fun. Thank you sooo much!!
I have the SAME problem with the peeling part of it. I can't say this video worked (yet) since I haven't tried it, but HAVE tried this method before. I just like watching it and seeing how perfect they turn out.
I love this method. 7 minutes got me perfectly runny yolks for ramen eggs. Gonna try Scotch eggs next.
try the heroin eggs
I like how thorough you are. Most of the videos I watch leave me with unanswered questions. Not so with this video. Nice job.
So glad you found this recipe helpful!
Glad this video was helpful!!
Watched this a year ago and I’m still constantly referring back to this exact video 😂
If you have to replay it over and over ...
This is hands down one of my favorite videos online. So amazing, very accurate, so helpful!!! Thank you again!
Hated boiled eggs until I joined the army. caked them in pepper and salt and they tasted great.
This is the definitive hard boiled egg video. I always come back to it. So simple, so effective. Thank you.
Same
What makes it definitive is IF it always works for you.
Oh my goodness thank you! I could never get it right - there is definitely a science to boiling an egg 🥚
Thank you for this thorough tutorial. I have referred to it on numerous occasions throughout the years. When you don't make soft boiled or deviled eggs frequently, this video is a must watch. The eggs come out perfectly every single time. Thanks again.
college students wya
real
This is an absolute fool proof method. In my loooong history of cooking eggs I have never found this method, and with a handy dandy timer on my cel phone I was able to cross check it and IT WORKS. Thank you ! The only issue I had is that the COLD eggs stopped the boiling process, but I was able to adjust.
I set my refrigerated eggs in a bowl of hot water from the sink to bring them up to room temp before boiling.
i myself have never actually heard of soft boiled eggs until now

Same ive always hard boiled them my whole life
Don't you love it when someone tells you how to easily do something you REALLY want to do...and it WORKS? I just finished breakfast with (2) poached eggs on toast, smoked bacon and fresh strawberries. YUM! Wanted to try the vortex, so cooked (1) at a time; water was still hot enough & used Orange Muscat Champagne Vinegar (TJ's). Thanks, Lisa :)
Absolutely Awesome ! I have watched SO many "how-to" videos on hard boiled eggs.
This video is incredibly simple and clear . youtube should remove ALL HB egg videos and just keep THIS ONE !
Glad it was helpful! 😊
Spoken like a true communist.
I had my lesson.. 7 minutes is the best.. Not runny but not too dense like eating egg yolk powder
I really enjoy the video and that's exactly the what I was looking for for soft boiled eggs. My favorite is 8 minutes eggs. Thank you. 🙏🏼😊
This appeals to my Virgo sensibilities. I LOVE that you took the time to put this together.
Me: *watches the whole thing*
Also me: "Oh that looks simple enough. Anyway, Imma ask mom to boil them😌
I watch every time I’m making hard/soft boiled eggs! Perfect, thanks!
Glad this video comes in handy Chris!
PSA: PUT SOME SALT IN THE BOILING WATER!!! makes shell peeel right off.... I promise
@Diego87 naw just add acouple spoon fulls ike 2 or 3 oi swear it comes right off no trolling
Or baking soda
You should note salt will change the cook time as it raises the boiling temp.
@@rsloveeeee incredibly minimal difference
I did and it didn't help but maybe not enough salt. I'll try more next time! thanks :)
I do 6-7 minute eggs and can play with times in the ice bath to make beautiful, what I call: "one drop sloppy yolks" that leave one drop of golden yellow in my salad or in hand as I eat it as is. Thank you for the best instructions I've ever seen.
Thanks for the vid!! But how many minutes are you gonna leave the 12-minute hard boiled egg in the cold water bath?
Yes, she left that step out
I believe she said just a minute, at 3:00
@@rextransformation7418 Nope, she said after a minute in the ice bath that's when she wrote the number on them. She replied to my comment and said to leave the eggs in the ice bath for about 5 minutes.
@@aprilmay1700 It's not that easy, the ice bath shocks the egg shell so it can peel easier. There is a science to it.
Notoriously Irritable You must be fun at parties
Learned a lot thank you. I’ve been cooking for myself for years but every once in awhile I like to go back to basics and see if I can better something.
It's always a great idea to refresh yourself on the basics 😊
Wow! I went for the 8 minute eggs, and they are amazing. Thank you so much (:
I've always done hard boiled eggs with cold water. Bring to a boil, turn off heat, let it sit. I will not be doing that anymore! This was a very well put together video!
I’m embarrassed that I have to even watch this 😂 ...update they came out great :) 😂🤷♀️
Sameeeee
