GF actually put a failsave in, which prevents genders beyond 0x01 from displaying glitchy graphics and whatnot, so nobody really took a look at it. Gen 3 on the other hand, lacks said failsave, which is how we have the effect of turning into a different NPC, or even a set of dolls.

"Performing save corruption is trivial and left as an exercise for the reader." As someone who is currently in 3 advanced proofs classes, I actually bust out laughing at this.
This channel really has been in my life for a long time lol. I remember an old glitching pokemon yellow series (did that actually exist? I can't find it anywhere) and me doing the tricks shown in the videos on real hardware in high school in like 2013. Do what you love my man, don't take anyone's crap about channel quality
Honestly, I see your channel in the same vein of Pannenkoek's SM64 stuff. In depth breakdowns of game oddities or glitches and their effects is a niche thing so a voice over really isn't needed. That isn't to say they shouldn't have them, it just isn't necessary all the time. And 720p footage is completely fine. Your showing an almost 30 year old game that isn't even meant to be displayed at that resolution to begin with so people aren't missing any finer details of the image. Enjoy the content and keep doing you!
In all seriousness you deliver a higher quality of entertainment than most mainstream UA-camrs do. I might not have to pause as often with voiceovers but the platform was made just for that. I'll go watch TV if I don't feel like reading.
just found this channel and i totally agree, on-screen text works better for this format. lets me fully control the pace of the video and actually spend time trying to understand the stuff you're explaining. keep up the fantastic work! at your own pace of course
dang the surf theme remix is kinda cool and so are the remixes after that also yeah i get ecxited for each new video because it always feels like!!! new interesting little pokemon things!!!!! each of them are SO interesting even if i dont fully understand how the code works to make these things happen and whatever. its still so fascinating
There are **VERY** few channels out there that match the caliber of yours. I mean don’t let it get to your head but. Your channel is a favorite to me and many others absolutely. These videos are always so fascinating and shocking - I hope you continue to do everything just how you like it, cause that sure does hit 😂❤️
love these videos! and for what it's worth, i don't mind the style or lack of voiceovers at all - if its something you end up wanting to change, great, and if you don't, also great. the information is being presented clearly and that's the important thing.
I mean, UA-cam was made as a platform to, well, "Broadcast Yourself". Individuality is important on a platform like this, and you have it in spades. It doesn't matter that a video made 8 years ago and just a few hours ago are the same, the style works perfectly. Keep it up.
As others have said, it's always great to get a video from you. I find it kind of amazing that to this day, the full understanding of the Gameboy's architecture gets confusing. "STOP is terminated with joypad interrupt" "Well yes, but actually no"
even tho we dont have a voice or face reveal, i can die a happy man knowing you're still around to bring us happy and glitch content no matter what season it is in the world
I subscribed to your content because of glitchy education. I've always liked glitches in games that break the rules and show off unexpected behaviour. The fact that your content is consistent at doing that is much appreciated.
I dropped everything to watch this video and share it in multiple Discord servers. Even though your production quality is low, and I admit some of this goes over my head, it's still enjoyable watching these videos. So as long as you keep doing what you're doing, even if it's only a few times a year, it's pretty cool. (Though I admit I'd love to see a Floor Generation Algorithm video for Explorers like you did for RT.)
Trust me, your videos are amazing, there is always the 1% of "where is the mic!?!?!" and stuff. You're good! I love it when you upload as it is always fascinating.
Dude, your text is super mega fine, hell in fact it adds to your charm if i may do say so myself I know others youtubers who mainly use text and their great too
If I have _one_ criticism, it's that the subtitles are (only) baked-in the video. I think the text should be transcribed into the UA-cam caption handler - so people of different languages can press Auto-Translate and follow along too. If you're gonna do text, do _all of the text ever._ That's it. That's the biggest gripe that has ever existed about ZZAZZ's videos.
As literally everyone else is saying, you really shouldn't be that hard on yourself for your videos. You are one of my favorite UA-camrs. It doesn't matter if you have a voice or just put text on the screen. It doesn't matter if you pay a professional editor or screen record a PowerPoint. It doesn't matter if you upload 3 times every week or 3 times every year. *You put your heart into your videos, and that is why everybody loves them.* (And irregular uploads just make it even more of a treat to see a new video pop up 😄) And honestly I wouldn't want a zzazz video any other way. Your style is iconic in the Pokémon community. There may be people who say otherwise in the comments but that is because the rest of us are all enjoying your videos without any reason to comment on the quality. The internet is just like that. 😔
Those people probably leave one comment off the top of their head, left and quickly went to consume some other video in the background. The lack of patience/dedication for some is astounding; at the same time, I get it. It can be hard to find worthwhile content.
Honestly, these videos are so much better without the voiceovers. I always get excited whenever a new one gets posted, thanks so much for these videos!
About the whole not doing voiceover things... Your dtyle feels very old, just as the commenter said. And you know what? I freakin' love it ! It's simple. Just you, docummenting your findings to us, over gameplay and explainations. Voiceovers make it harder to pause and think for yourself, and distract from the experience. Hell, even the editing style has a lot of charm ! It's so simple and yet so unique and recognizable. And oh, that Casino music ! So emblematic. While yeahhh rendering vids in 1080p would be a bit better, there's just some charm about 720p. It really feels like I'm watching 20010 UA-cam, when it was just hobbyists sharing their knowledge for fun instead of one-man corps trying to make a profit from watch time. Keep it up, ZZAAZZAAZAAAAZAZAAAZAZZZZAZAAAZ, but only if you enjoy it. As far as I'm concerned, your content is simply amazing as it is, and I would love come back to this old channel in 15 years and seeing the yearly upload looking and feeling the exact same as it did five years ago from today. Whatever that means from a random faceless person on the internet that you never know anything about nor will ever see again, thank you for providing us all with amazing stuff to binge through every month !
The moment this video showed up in my feed, I knew I had to watch. Your uploads may be infrequent, but they're always interesting, and I'll take that any day over someone that just pushes out content for the sake of the algorithm.
the corrupted music ones really interest me! they're a bit funky but if someone out there remixed them correctly you could probably get some banger remixes out of it!
Your channel and work in general are what got me interested in coding. You really don't need super high quality video production to make these things interesting- your explanations with simple backgrounds and the game corner music are wonderful and don't need to change to be compelling and interesting. Please don't ever feel pressured to change or like your videos aren't "good" enough because of the "quality" of the production. Your style has charm and doing things at a higher "quality" might hurt your content instead of help it. Just keep doing what you like, we won't complain. :)
it may not be high quality in terms of editing/commentary but it IS in the researh department even though i understand little about it. tbh i'm fine with info given in text because you can pause to read and such. + glitches are always fun
Also, I love your videos the way they are! I love pausing the videos to read at my own pace. There's a lot of stuff going on, and I especially like the excuse to listen to Gen 1/2 music! =D
Oh yay, a new upload! Keep up the good work-your videos already have some production quality, and it's good enough. Content matters more than presentation. I'm glad you're also promoting the newer Pan Docs-like VBA, the old stuff is hard to down from search results. Cheers! o/ I wish you got a microphone so we can hear you sing the Game Corner music acapella, though :3
Second comment now that the video is actually over lol. Nice to know what to refer to you as. As far as the lack of a mic or any voiceover stuff and well everything else mentioned in that section, I think your videos are great as they are. While in an ideal world, uploads would be more frequent, I'm not gonna be entitled and demand you waste your valuable time for something you're not making money on and are just doing as a hobby. Keep doing your thing, I always look forward to every video you post. I also respect the lack of selling out. Too many youtubers doing this as a job so almost every video either ends in or starts with a sponsor read which takes away from the video. Your videos are - in my opinion at least - some of the highest quality videos on the platform. Keep up the good work!
i prefer how you run these currently. No need for insane HD rendering, no need for a voiceover. Heck, upload schedule dosen't even need to be consistent. It's best to take your time and flesh these out to the best they can be. I love watching these as RBY are some of my favorite old games - so much fun to watch people exploit the game in ways unknown to most people *and have an explanation to back it up*
I prefer the lack of voice over actually, and I'm not just saying that to be nice. Videos about stuff like this I tend to zone out when someone's talking and I don't understand everything they're talking about, and then i end up missing stuff I actually do understand because I'm not paying attention. These I can just pause the video and read the text for as long as it takes me to understand, and if I really don't understand it I can just skip over the parts that confuse me. The only downside is that I can't just listen while I'm doing something or eating but I like paying full attention to these anyways because they're genuinely interesting.
hey wait what about switching boxes? if you catch 150 pokemon w the glitch youll only get 20 or so before having to change the box out manually, the game wont let you throw a ball otherwise. you can't do that in pallet town without using a seperate glitch, right? i thought automatic box switching only became a thing in gen 2 or 3
Forgot to mention: you don't need to switch boxes, because none of the Pokémon actually end up in the party. They just vanish because of the failsafe mechanism, which prevents adding new Pokémon to the party if it's already full. They still count towards dex completion though!
@@TheZZAZZGlitch Wait, so the failsafe only prevents adding beyond 6, but it doesn't disable catching itself? Edit: Never mind, I checked pokered. Pokeballs check for equality with 6 for some reason, instead of greater than/equal to, and 254 - 6 != 0.
i may be in the minority here, but i tend to get fatigued with channels that upload regularly and all that. my favorite channels that i am most dedicated to upload less frequently with a production value They like - and you're no exception! thanks for fueling my childhood special interest
You can actually complete the Pokedex without even leaving your room. The current TAS for Catch Em All does this, tl;dr it sets up a fake game corner with the pokemon ids taken from overflowed inventory, then simply buys them all. This is also an interesting case where rst $38 is useful, as prices are taken from SRAM, and doing rst $38 sets the prices to a reasonable $0039. Note the strategy isn't "TAS only" per se, standard RTA Catch Em All wouldn't do this route just simply because it bans save corruption and "mass farming" glitches, as those make the category completely unfun. Also, "open bus" isn't necessarily the last thing read (i.e. last opcode or last operand). Open bus simply is whatever is currently on the bus. The contents of the bus "pull up" over time, with 0 bits randomly turning to 1s, eventually the bus will have $FF. So, sometimes you do just get the last opcode read. Sometimes you do just the last thing read, sometimes you get the last thing read with some 0 bits randomly set to 1s, sometimes you just get $FF. The behavior is mostly dependent on the console used and the cartridge used (on that, flashcarts like the everdrive are known to do this completely wrong and prevent pullups from occuring), and sometimes even current conditions at the time (like temperature). pop rr opcodes are more interesting here. Those have 2 separate reads, which occur at different points. For my own MBC3 flashcart, a pop would result in the first read to have the pop opcode byte, and the second read would result in $FF (so pop de has de = $FFD1). bgb emulates this with just using the last byte read always, more for performance reasons really. Of course, it may be correct behavior in some cases (although given how long until the second read occurs, I'd find it very unlikely). $FFD1 may be incorrect too sometimes, maybe sometimes it's $FFFF, maybe sometimes it's $F3D1, maybe sometimes it's $FFF3, but it's something anyways you can't always rely on per se.
Welcome back TheZZAZZGlitch. ^^ I feel the same way too (pressure for people to want me to do voice-over, or it feels like I have pressure to improve/add design, etc., also I don't make any money either) - at the end of the day; we do what we enjoy and it doesn't matter, and worrying too much about style can impact substance.

GF actually put a failsave in, which prevents genders beyond 0x01 from displaying glitchy graphics and whatnot, so nobody really took a look at it. Gen 3 on the other hand, lacks said failsave, which is how we have the effect of turning into a different NPC, or even a set of dolls.

man i’ve been watching you for YEARS at this point and you’re ALWAYS a welcome presence in my sub box. you’ve been feeding an old obsession of mine for a long time and i’m always happy to see more of you, even if it’s never on a consistent schedule
Sounds like MissingnoXpert, all of the channel's videos have been deleted but there are mirrors up on youtube.
@@oystodrx Thanks! I must have confused this channel with his
Honestly, I see your channel in the same vein of Pannenkoek's SM64 stuff.
I'll go watch TV if I don't feel like reading.
just found this channel and i totally agree, on-screen text works better for this format. lets me fully control the pace of the video and actually spend time trying to understand the stuff you're explaining. keep up the fantastic work! at your own pace of course
dang the surf theme remix is kinda cool and so are the remixes after that
also yeah i get ecxited for each new video because it always feels like!!! new interesting little pokemon things!!!!! each of them are SO interesting even if i dont fully understand how the code works to make these things happen and whatever. its still so fascinating
10:06 You suddenly realized that running away from a trainer battle is an unforgivable sin. This realization will haunt you for the rest of your life.
Glitch Science videos are among my favorite topics, and your videos are among the best of that category. Thank you, ZZAZZ
love these videos! and for what it's worth, i don't mind the style or lack of voiceovers at all - if its something you end up wanting to change, great, and if you don't, also great. the information is being presented clearly and that's the important thing.
I hear Pa-Paya in the intro and immediately squealed
Dude, your text is super mega fine, hell in fact it adds to your charm if i may do say so myself
I know others youtubers who mainly use text and their great too
When ZZAZZ uploads, you know it is going to be good.
Hey dude, I've been watching your stuff for many many years and I just want to say I love your style, please don't feel the need to change it!
Your channel is one of the ones I've been watching for the longest, since before this account even lol, this is definitely quality content
"Performing save corruption is trivial and left as an exercise for the reader." LMAO
Man that Lavender Town/Silph Co. mashup was a banger.
subtitle commentary is the art of the masses
It's way more convenient.
In fact, more people should do it, at least from time to time.
If I have _one_ criticism, it's that the subtitles are (only) baked-in the video.
I think the text should be transcribed into the UA-cam caption handler - so people of different languages can press Auto-Translate and follow along too. If you're gonna do text, do _all of the text ever._
That's it.
*You put your heart into your videos, and that is why everybody loves them.*
(And irregular uploads just make it even more of a treat to see a new video pop up 😄)
And honestly I wouldn't want a zzazz video any other way.
I really like your current format, please don't change!
Your videos are great the way they are. Keep making the content you wanna make, the way you wanna make it, at the pace you wanna make it.
8:27 This is the music that should play when you encounter a glitch Pokemon!
A THRID ONE?!
Edit: have you tried Running from a ????? (Which cancels the battle)?
this channel is one of the only 3 i consistently look forward to uploads from
Honestly, these videos are so much better without the voiceovers.
It's a welcome break for sure from new UA-cam (even though I partake in it often)
I am literally in love with this channel. please never change cause some comment told you to.
I think the last glitch music is the lavender tower + mount moon
Zzazz is like the bearded old man on top of a mountain that I go to for advice
The moment this video showed up in my feed, I knew I had to watch. Your uploads may be infrequent, but they're always interesting, and I'll take that any day over someone that just pushes out content for the sake of the algorithm.
So much magnificent sound T_T
Make me even more interested in a musical glitch video ^^
the corrupted music ones really interest me! they're a bit funky but if someone out there remixed them correctly you could probably get some banger remixes out of it!
Man, don't worry about still rendering in 720p. I never saw much point in going past 1080p myself. Only this past year have I started going up to 2k 🤣
ZZAZZ I LOVE YOU BRO. Always nice to see yah in my subscriptions and learn more intrinsic knowledge about busting the hell out Gen 1 and 2!
I'm so so happy you don't do voiceovers, I'm not good at understanding spoken English and reading is better (at least for me)!
I'd love a youtube/spotify playlist of full versions of the possible glitch-based mashup songs lol
I really enjoy a show-not-tell experience, and you give that in spades. I insist; keep doing what you do.
I absolutely love your channel and feel awesome when I see you've uploaded a new video. Keep up the good work!
it may not be high quality in terms of editing/commentary but it IS in the researh department even though i understand little about it. tbh i'm fine with info given in text because you can pause to read and such. + glitches are always fun
The most nostalgic of all pokemon channels out there
Also, I love your videos the way they are! I love pausing the videos to read at my own pace. There's a lot of stuff going on, and I especially like the excuse to listen to Gen 1/2 music! =D
God I love this channel, where else am I gonna find glitch information this specific
This content is perfect the way it is. Don't change it!
Oh yay, a new upload! Keep up the good work-your videos already have some production quality, and it's good enough. Content matters more than presentation.
I'm glad you're also promoting the newer Pan Docs-like VBA, the old stuff is hard to down from search results. Cheers! o/
I wish you got a microphone so we can hear you sing the Game Corner music acapella, though :3
You are the best at what you do and an absolute hero for thousands of persons
1:04 xkcd my beloved
I'm ok for the current video format. I like being able to read the content than listen. Especially when I'm bored in public and don't have headphones.
The music stuff is awesome! Would be cool to have those glitch tracks as individual rips/recordings.
never change, your channel is perfect the way it is!
Interesting observations 2 was so good, they made an Interestring observations 2 2
i prefer how you run these currently. No need for insane HD rendering, no need for a voiceover. Heck, upload schedule dosen't even need to be consistent.
It's best to take your time and flesh these out to the best they can be. I love watching these as RBY are some of my favorite old games - so much fun to watch people exploit the game in ways unknown to most people *and have an explanation to back it up*
I look so much forward to a notification that a new video is out on your channel. Made my day when I saw this one and I hadn't even clicked yet.
Seeing that Omega video will never not kill me
I prefer the lack of voice over actually, and I'm not just saying that to be nice.
I was not expecting to click on a Pokémon video and hear music from FFXIV. I approve 👍🏻
your best is enough, i appreciate these videos. thanks zzazz
hey wait what about switching boxes? if you catch 150 pokemon w the glitch youll only get 20 or so before having to change the box out manually, the game wont let you throw a ball otherwise. you can't do that in pallet town without using a seperate glitch, right? i thought automatic box switching only became a thing in gen 2 or 3
Forgot to mention: you don't need to switch boxes, because none of the Pokémon actually end up in the party.
I WENT SO LONG WITHOUT HEARING PA-PAYA WHY HAVE YOU DONE THIS
i may be in the minority here, but i tend to get fatigued with channels that upload regularly and all that. my favorite channels that i am most dedicated to upload less frequently with a production value They like - and you're no exception! thanks for fueling my childhood special interest
