Winter made a comment on another Serral match about what does the best player in the world practice to keep getting better or something to that effect. I think what Serral has that puts him so far ahead of other players is rythym and game sense. The rythym is the boring stuff Winter talks about. Creep spread, injects, overlord placement etc... That extra Queen energy efficiancy is something I think makes a big difference, when combined with all the other efficiant things he does. Game sense is what I think is really Serrals "X-factor". He is able to know what the other player "should" be doing and exactly when. It's why his Zerglings always find a way in. Its only something that really works against the best players because anything less will make mistakes that throw off that timing. Things like "He should be lowering the depot about this time to let an SCV through and speed is finishing up so i can get it in." This falls off later, somewhat, because little inefficiancies build up and the direction builds can go start to get to complex to be able to predict. Still he has that sense of what his opponent "should" be doing at every stage of the game. He also combines this with extremely diligent scouting. Single zerglings, overlords, creep etc... Its a tiny detail but his extra game sense also means his scouting is more effective because he is checking what his sense tells him to and its usually right. I can't state enough how exceptional this combo is because it's easy to overly rely on your game sense and not scout as effectively. A lot of pro players do this and they are usually right but sometimes they aren't quite on the money but Serral remains humble, for a lack of a better word, and double checks with very diligent scouting. I think he also just has an encyclopedic level knowledge of the range and size of abilties. I think his creep spread is probably just so that you can't really get more than 2 or 3 tumors in a single scan, when he has the time to take an extra millisecond to place them nicely. I think that's how the trademarked "Serralfestor" came in. He just knows how big the scan is and combined with that extra game sense can put them in that one spot that is just out of reach of where the enemy player is scanning. If I were to hazard a guess at what Serrals training regiment is, it would be something like just playing against a afk enemy and practicing that rythym to do the injects and creep spread and all the boring stuff. Just like playing an instrument he practices that chord progression over and over so it is just as natural as breathing. Kinda what happens when you see a band playing and the guitarist does some crazy dance or moves that seem impossible to do and nail that guitar solo. In reality they have just done it so many times that they would fall asleep playing if they didn't spice it up. I would also maybe hazard a guess that he has someone or multiple someones to practice against and, this may be off the walls and actually a stupid thing to do idk but its what I would do if I were the best, gives them some form of handicap. Like a custom map where the enemy units build slightly faster or get minerals and gas slightly faster. Things that don't effect what build order they play but just give them an edge on making it come online faster and more efficiantly. So they can kind of emulate a player on Serrals level and when Serral plays against a normal but better opponent it's like the weighted training clothes come off. By training in a way that semi replicates playing against a perfect human player that no human could naturally achieve it gives him an edge that keeps him at the top. I disagree with your "x-factor" comment, Serral's mechanics are close to second nature, and his playstyle evolves quickly, so can change his composition and what he does with it before you can do it again - "fool me once..." But he's a bit too careful sometimes, excellent at defense, he misses juicy opportunities by fractions that a player like Dark is actively hunting for, and will pounce on unhesitantly. lets not forget that serral has super high (400 to 500 apm). in the pro scene, i firmly believe that zerg cannot dominate games without super high apm, which only top tier zerg players like serral, dark and reynor are able to pull off....
@@pegasisilver6249 lol. Maybe Maru shouldn't play braindead build orders against dark like he did in game 5. That was a free win for Dark. If other races keep throwing games away like this, of course Zerg wins.
It’s amazing to see the difference it makes just seasoning your army with a few banshees can make! Their high dps firing from the back is amazing as a support unit! Not sure why they’re not used more they seem so cost effective when you just add a few!
I think most Terrans avoid then due to the gas cost, and they'd rather pump out Medivacs and Liberators which don't need a tech lab. That said, I agree having 2-3 is a great DPS addition. I too wish more Terrans did this.
The fact that the infestor has been nerfed to hell and is still an incredible unit shows just how amazing of a unit it was when the game originally dropped.
In a situation like the first game I'd love to see Maru just lift all his building and fly them in to take aggro while he attacks, not like he'll have money to produce anything anyway
This was the game of all times or is it?.....Thanks Winter for casting these matches. You definitely made my day better as you do since I have subscribed. Thank you very much
I like everything about SC2, but Neural Parasite is one of those things that I think should not be apart of the game. Zerg is already IMMENSELY better in terms of supply and just ripping supply away from your opponents is just bad gameplay. Like just class them as massive and make it so neural can't hit massive. At least for Thors, Carriers, Battlecruisers etc. Just doesn't make sense to me.
I love how we have all these titles and reverence for Serral, but for Maru its just "Oh, and the 7-time World Champion - ANYWAY". As if that is somehow less 😂
Those odd moments where you forget what you're saying or mess it up heavily are getting more frequent. Could be lack of sleep, could be something worth talking to a doctor about. Take care of yourself, Winter, we need you.
Wow Serral really had his back against the wall....It was impressive how he completely dominated and Maru really had no chance at all. What exactly is Serral anyway?!?
i think in this game i learned how to balance this game: add more cost to lair/(especially) hive, reduce damage by 50% for tanks but increase fire rate by 25%, reduce liberator dmg by 25%. protoss is fine.
One thing I've never understood is why Planetaries are worth it when they die so fast... wouldn't it be better to have something that can just lift off and survive?
They defend themselves against harassment and light attacks, which is their selling point, and they can be helpful to fortify a location against all out attacks due to their spash damage. But against heavy attacks with little anti air, as zerg often mounts them in the late game, an orbital is preferable due to its ability to lift up and survive the attack, even if the army is not already stationed there.
@@escribendo6138 Yeah, I get that. So I guess what I'm really saying is I think Maru shouldn't have bothered with Planetaries as much as he did this game, especially where every little bit of resources ends up mattering.
@@NealX_Gaming Planetary are also supply, and can defend, there's no real bloodless way of dealing with them, they trade pretty cost effectively esp. w epair, even if the army is out of position. Presumably, Maru did not anticipate Serral drinking his milkshake.
Ah Maru. He loses one close game, he's out. Doesnt matter if there's 5 games left to play, the guy just cannot keep composure after a hard loss ... gets tilted and falls apart.
Yeah and new idea for widow mines three shots at a time targeting separate targets lmfao. Also they prioritize broodlords with two of the shots. And disruptor hits air units.
I wanna take a moment to ONCE AGAIN drop a comment on maru's completely wasted barracks at this moment 11:16. On screen right now if I dropped a bunker in between the engi bay and the CC on the 3rd, and one in the wall, or just near the wall at the natural. This whole counter attack isn't doing anything especially with 6 marines in a plated bunker. He probably loses a lot less of his units on the front because he can manage that more "full time" 14:12 no he hasn't wheres the bunkers hes between the gas and the CC making it hard for bane run by.
I feel like siege tanks should get a late game tech, like hover mode. They're such a liability either because they become useless through blinding cloud, does FF through splash or gets neuroed and basically does full FF. They're also incredibly gas intensive.
Even in the early game, biles hard counter them... People who cry about the widow mine should realize why people use them that much, the tank is a win more unit, have plenty and you'll stay safe, have too few and the enemy army will cost effectively charge them and destroy them...
@@tobiasL1991 yep. Doesn't help that Ravagers aren't armored, so tanks deal less damage against them. They cost 25 gas cheaper than tanks, and require 3 tank shots to kill That's why Zerg can just ling only against marine tank, because the tanks are going to be helping you out with splash damage anyway.
they are just useless. They do nothing vs zerglings and banelings which is the whole point of the splash damage. They are only good vs roach/ravager but even then can get overun pretty easily,
@@yazzzlet3549 they require a lot of time to get value out of them, because of their slow firing speed. 13 range is also not that amazing due to this fact.
Have you ever played in a real game vs siege tanks ? if the terran isn't stupid, you first have to clear his bio before being able to reach his tanks, which is not easy at all to do ? On the other hand, mines are just way more random, and totally overpowered if you don't have 400 apm to counter them. Take time to clear them, or keep up the macro.
"some terrain features finally working against the terrans". Lmao. Every map for the past decade+ has had overlord pervert towers specifically so zerg gets 100% vision of the front of the natural.
Anyone else think it was way more entertaining watching sc2 in wings of liberty when the pros wernt as perfect as they are now? You had insane swings. Like you never really knew who was going to win. Micro wasnt perfect eother. Idk i love going back and watching those games.
Jesus Christ, Anti-Armor missle is so fucking useless. If it's not a counter to Ultras even then what is the point? It should scale with armor not just be pointless against higher strenght armors. Microbial shroud is another one of those pointless ones that obviously needs a buff but Infestors were so OP for so long that they were fine just leaving a completely pointless ability in the game, just wasted space, time, and money. Just increase it to like 65% damage negation from air, like ffs! Better it have SOME utility than literally not.

Serral just picks you apart man, that was nuts.
"Serral who... sometimes looks like a mortician's accountant"
Winter 2024
Is Clem the only Terran winning games without cheesing right now?
Serral is just in another level
Zerg op.
@@pegasisilver6249 lol. Maybe Maru shouldn't play braindead build orders against dark like he did in game 5.
That was a free win for Dark.
If other races keep throwing games away like this, of course Zerg wins.
Terran OP@@pegasisilver6249
Definitely this.@@wedgeantilles8575
The age of Maru is passed; the age of Clem has arrived.
You're making that judgment based on just one game?
@@mingdiprincess based on his performance over the last year
Your comment did not age well. Lol! Maru won his 8th GSL, the most in history - and perhaps ever. Clem's ZvT is second to none though, it's true. 😂
Describing serrals play at the beginning started to sound like fitter, happier, more productive.
that first game was incredible
Cyclone damage and range is so emberrassing compared to it's old self it brings tears in my eyes.
I like Winter's witty casting
The fact that the infestor has been nerfed to hell and is still an incredible unit shows just how amazing of a unit it was when the game originally dropped.
You mean OP as Hell. The Winfestor used to be a meme, like the Archon toilet was. Now the infester is in the spot it always should have been. 😂
Big ups
damn that was close game
Winter, can we have a few casts with SC1 music? Always thought it feels more starcrafty.
I love the queens conversations! They are so awesome!
Maru cloaks & croaks. GG. Insane tourney win for Serral!
I love when winter says: "one of the closest games I've ever seen"... meanwhile serral wins 3-0
In a situation like the first game I'd love to see Maru just lift all his building and fly them in to take aggro while he attacks, not like he'll have money to produce anything anyway
been a while since I've seen a old school late game battle
Oh man. I don't know about you guys, but I feel like this could be... A GAME OF THE YEAR...
This was the game of all times or is it?.....Thanks Winter for casting these matches. You definitely made my day better as you do since I have subscribed. Thank you very much
This is my Game of the Year for sure!
Love those close games
I love how we have all these titles and reverence for Serral, but for Maru its just "Oh, and the 7-time World Champion - ANYWAY". As if that is somehow less 😂
200k soon!
I think, someone who bet on an unbelievable 3-0 is lucky man. That's Korean SC2.
38:12 why is there a soft honk in the background @winterrrr
Maru is Faru
@@NealX_Gaming Planetary are also supply, and can defend, there's no real bloodless way of dealing with them, they trade pretty cost effectively esp. w
epair, even if the army is out of position.
Presumably, Maru did not anticipate Serral drinking his milkshake.
The Liberator. Watches.
Ah Maru. He loses one close game, he's out. Doesnt matter if there's 5 games left to play, the guy just cannot keep composure after a hard loss ... gets tilted and falls apart.
These lategame maru vs serral Games are ridiculous and have been for like a decade😂
New idea for brood lords. If they dont attack for 300 seconds the little guys morph into a brand new free broodlord.
Yeah and new idea for widow mines three shots at a time targeting separate targets lmfao.
Also they prioritize broodlords with two of the shots. And disruptor hits air units.
@Lordofhollows15 this is why I'm a Dev, and you're not lol
@@andrewjones198 probably why sc2 is still shit playing protoss right now 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

He probably loses a lot less of his units on the front because he can manage that more "full time"
14:12 no he hasn't wheres the bunkers hes between the gas and the CC making it hard for bane run by.
The Liberator watches...
They cost 25 gas cheaper than tanks, and require 3 tank shots to kill
That's why Zerg can just ling only against marine tank, because the tanks are going to be helping you out with splash damage anyway.
they are just useless.
Probably too late for anyone to care, but, loving the Expanse reference.
Maru is slacking, man.
Serral is truly the testament of Overmind`s will and the fury of the swarm!
the first zerg win on hard lead.
does anyone know whose face is on serrals base picture? just irks me not knowing.
Going to "mech" it happen after seeing a second factory, heard what you did there 😉
"some terrain features finally working against the terrans". Lmao. Every map for the past decade+ has had overlord pervert towers specifically so zerg gets 100% vision of the front of the natural.
There is something wrong with the phrase "Serral gets an EMP off". Can't quite say what, though.
10:43 the biles “almost” hit the tank?
The fact that a tank army can kill more of it's own forces than enemies, never made sense to me....!!!!!
36:50 did that reaper just auto-heal?
Thank You
Om nom nom
How didn’t “game of the year” get in this title
Anyone else think it was way more entertaining watching sc2 in wings of liberty when the pros wernt as perfect as they are now? You had insane swings. Like you never really knew who was going to win. Micro wasnt perfect eother. Idk i love going back and watching those games.
ONG What a title :)))))) ty ty ty
Jesus Christ, Anti-Armor missle is so fucking useless. If it's not a counter to Ultras even then what is the point? It should scale with armor not just be pointless against higher strenght armors. Microbial shroud is another one of those pointless ones that obviously needs a buff but Infestors were so OP for so long that they were fine just leaving a completely pointless ability in the game, just wasted space, time, and money. Just increase it to like 65% damage negation from air, like ffs! Better it have SOME utility than literally not.
Can someone please tell me why pro SC2 players just don't seem to repair units at all?
Zerg are over-powered!
Zerg has always been OP in sc2 - all phases / expansions .
mech it happen... lol
Does maru’s units gets 1+ Chariama and Amor? Or Armor?
