I have lived in Chiang Mai for 20 years and been to Pai many times. Newbies to Chiang Mai often arrive with a side trip to Pai on their bucket list, and when I ask them why they usually say "because I heard it's cool". No really, why do you want to go to Pai so urgently? Again, they usually don't know, they just "heard it was cool". Thing is, there isn't very much "to do" in Pai, it's more like an escape from the beaten path which ironically puts it on the beaten path. All these young hippie types take the next minivan up and over the hills only to arrive and find the place full of the same people, but at least it's a badge of distinction to say you've been there, something to blog about or add to the campfire discussion circle when you get to the FMP down south. Then some of them think it's paradise I can do whatever I want and stay forever, but often forget you still need money and you still have visa restrictions which mean you have to leave every month or two. Pai is definitely in danger of jumping the shark though, with all the pretentious "how cool am I?" mentality and social media "influencers" blocking the way with their narcissistic phone held high telling the world of their awesome discovery. It just doesn't feel real anymore.
I have been to Pai multiple times in the last 15 years. At times I love it and at times I hate it. Overrun by tourists and the night market is full of everything except Thai food. Burritos, burgers etc… there are much better places in SE Asia or Notthern Thailand for a relaxed life surrounded by beautiful nature
@@backwardsyoga near Pai I would just drive to Mae Hong Son or Ban Rak Tai and stay there, especially MHS, I love that place. Hasn’t changed much in the last 13 years
Funny you should say that. Pai is one of the few places you can have a good CAMPFIRE / Firepit discussion. And you'll probably get some great music too. Don't get that vibe anywhere else in Thailand.
You telling the boys the're missing the sunset is cracking me up. On the one hand you're absolutely right, on the other hand you're also missing the sunset while filming.
Pai got stepped on by tourism. Use to hang here 15 years ago and it was just a small community. Great food n definitely chill. The hot springs and waterfalls combo was gold. It's like Bali now. Tourism kills
Reminds me of the Movie The Beach. Look what happened to Hawaii, Hawaiian people no longer are the majority. Prices go up, locals move out and can't afford their own home anymore.
Hello i am thai people for long time ago i travel at pai for that trip i fall in love in pai and now if i rich i wanna move my parent to pai no more reason but i love pai.
nice video, well put together . the centre of pai feels a bit pointless, if not fun, but you located some interesting life outside the city walls..interviewed some characters
I spent a lot of time around Pai and Mae Hong Son province in the 1990s and Pai has changed a lot now from what I can see in this vlog. But the essence remains the same and that's good to see. Some things change... but some things never change - like Ozric Tentacles still being a soundtrack to dance to.... 30 yrs after I danced to their music in Pai haha
In 2 weeks, we’ll be in Northern Thailand again for the third time within 2 years! Each is at least 2 weeks long too. We LOVEEEE the vibes and the majestic views there. ❤❤❤
If you are bored in a world where there is only anger, fighting, and war, I recommend that you come here to Pai. Except you don't break the law, that's all, and respect the local people. That's your world.
Good videos let's also do the same as said Jesses “it is written Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God ❤
Be aware, anywhere in Thailand that smacks of New Age or Hippie retreats is probably crowded with Israelis. I'm not saying that good or bad just a fact to consider. Koh Phangan and Pai especially.
I'm increasingly keen to leave the U.K, successive governments including the current one have let me down. They only support those who don't work for a living and I have to pay for them.
Your video content is great but your video is not reaching more people. Because of your video optimization need to be improved. If you want, I will help you as the channel grows and video views increase
Thailand gouges non-citizens for their parks and historical sites. Now I'm sure that I don't want to go to Pai...not my kind of people or place. Let them enjoy.
If it's about nature then I agree with you, otherwise not, due to China's influence destroying their economy, the Thai government is gradually legalizing marijuana and drugs, sooner or later it will become become the crime center of Southeast Asia, and also Cambodia... if you're just traveling, you should enjoy it while you can.. greetings from Vietnam, be careful and stay healthy

Tony good to see your shows you really are a good man and for that I truly love you
I been trying to go couple times when I was in Thailand is was a smoking season in April maybe next time thank you for the cool video
like the original "California dreaming" vibe.
Looks like lots of low energy stuff going on up in this neck of the woods. don't get trapped in lethargic vortexes, people.
Im riding hard enduro there 5 days a week, theres some energy spent doing that.

I love it when tourists call themselves travellers
A Farang telling local boys they’re missing the sunset 😂 It’s like telling Americans they are missing a promotion on Walmart mate.
LOL just like an old Expat telling young people that it's crazy to go around dem Hippies & just stay boring like them!
Duuuudeee great video!!!!
Awesome 👍👍👍👌✌️💪💕🇺🇸
The commune in the jungle reminds me of slab city. Very similar vibes 🎉😊
Wow the asian singer was mesmerizing
Greetings from Bulgaria ! Cheers ! 🌍
"Guys you're missing the sunset" the way they looked up at you had me laughing hard hahaha

How can they stay there with the new residency rules?
I don’t think they remove you but the penalty for overstaying is a ban on reentry for 1-10 years depending on how long you overstay.
the kids playing moba during a sunset. Pbbt. There's one every day. Lol.
Skön stil, kan relatera till hundra procent!
Paradise, maybe 20jrs ago, now its a tourrist hotspot
Whats so 'unusual 'about an 'apple green' colour for the walls of a guest house room??
It’s a color I would expect in a children’s room. Doesn’t matter though. No point sitting around in a hotel room anyway.
