What is minimum wage where you live for an adult on casual wages? In Australia for casual workers over the age of 21 it is AUD$30.25 (USD$20.30).
In Poland it's 28.10 PLN, which is $7.26 USD.
Minimum wage in the US is something like "a soggy cookie and a half-hearted limp handshake" so that's why they appreciate tips.
In the US the minimum wage is dependent on which state you live in- my state is $7.25
US Federal minimum wage is a paltry $7.25 per hour. Many states have higher minimum wages than federal but not all of them. I don't think any of them are close to $20.30 per hour though. I have a hard time finding even more experienced positions that pay that well. What a mess.
The minimum US wage is $7.25 an hour unless you are a tipped worker where in some states they can pay you a sub-minimum wage of $2.13.
I know she meant fondant, but hearing her say "its supposed to be fondue" made me choke on my drink 😂
Lol that got me, too! Gotta love southern grandma!😂
@@MrsBrit1Right? They really did her dirty too. I know she switched up the words because she was upset, and she was totally right to be so.
@@jadynfey7743 Exactly! I can't understand all the people here saying it's the customer's fault for being entitled and expected such a fancy cake at such a "low" cost. This clearly isn't an entitled Karen low-balling. It's clearly someone who doesn't move in circles where people buy extremely fancy cakes usually and doesn't know how much they cost (which I didn't either until watching this). She seems to be a normal person for whom 200 dollars is already actually a lot of money and she saw this cute idea online and thought she would "splash out" with 200 dollars to treat someone on a special occasion. Taking advantage of her lack of knowledge and power (try that BS with a wealthy person and you will regret it!) is really scummy. The baker should have just explained that this result isn't possible with that budget (or frankly her own skill level) and suggested something simpler.
Tbh, it looked more like fondue than fondant to me!
@@tfrtrouble Agreed. There are plenty of cases where I would go "well what did you expect for $X?", but this is not one of them. Compared with the cost of a basic cake, $200 is very expensive so it's not unreasonable for a non-expert to think the price sounded right. The person taking the order at the bakery should have known that getting that cake done correctly for $200 was impossible and should have either given a realistic price or set realistic expectations.
That second cake fail is really something! I understand that the example cake was worth more than $200 but the baker that made the fail really should have been more open about what they could reasonably do for that price
Yeah exactly. As Ann said, there are no winners here. The baker should have realized their skill level and the cost. Part of their job is to keep expectations in check. They never should have said they could make the same cake or even close to it. Then, once again as Ann says, you got a ton of even basic things wrong like the color scheme.. so it's like the baker realized it wasn't going to be something they can do and then didn't even bother to really try. I don't agree the customer should get their money back because they likely kept the cake and the worker did deliver a product. I also think the customer should have done a bit more due diligence and seen like a portfolio of the person's work to know their skill level..
@@Eventide215 "The worker did deliver a product" isn't how commerce works. You have to deliver the product that was ordered, not just send any product you feel like and demand payment. This is like someone ordered a red dress and got a really badly made blue skirt.
And keeping the product isn't really relevant for a perishable thing like a cake. Let's say the customer returned, what's the baker going to do with it? They need to sell it really fast before it goes bad, and nobody is going to pay anything near 200 dollars for that hideous cake, let alone at a few hours notice.
Of course the desired cake was worth more than 200 dollars, but it's not up to the customer to know what things cost in the industry. The professional vendor in this field needs to know this and tell them. Falsely claiming you can do something you know is beyond both your skill and the budget is fraud. If the customer had known, they could have found another vendor and increased their budget or simplified their order, but if they only find out on the day of delivery, it's too late to find an alternative. If you make a product of such low quality that nobody would buy it if they saw it first AND it doesn't even match the agreed order specifications, then yes you should give a refund refund.
@@tfrtrouble As long as they delivered a product and you accepted then yes that's exactly how commerce works. You quoted half of what was said then used that.. Here, I'll help you quote myself:
"I don't agree the customer should get their money back because they likely kept the cake..."
The rest of your comments also don't make sense. If you're the one creating the cake and you create something completely wrong, let's use your dress example here, then that's your problem as the creator to resell it somehow. The person doesn't have to accept your wrong product.
As for the customer knowing what would reasonably be delivered, that they could have actually known by looking at the decorator's portfolio. Every professional decorator has one because it shows your skill and what type of cakes you typically make.
Also, claiming to be able to create it doesn't equate to fraud. You should go learn what fraud is.
The amount of cake dave and family gets to eat probably more than compensates for all the failed experiments
I messaged a few friends to see if they knew of anyone having a party that weekend - the fairy cake was given away and used at a 50th (I changed the 'one' to 'fifty').
@@HowToCookThat That's amazing! What a lucky 50-year-old! I hope they had a great party!
Amazing. I’m having my 64th birthday in 3 days … [wishing upon a star … and Ann *is* a star!].
I just love this channel. Thanks Ann! ❤
@@HowToCookThat ah thats amazing too, i was really just making a joke if it didn't seem like it
That was a lovely cake
Anne's positivity and gentle advice is how I was able to make my daughter a barbie cake for her birthday. It was just a stacked cake to look like a skirt and shoved a barbie in it, but watching these helped me learn how to cut/stack cakes with frosting layers, keep it stable, add a crumb layer, and then decorative frosting flowers. My daughter LOVED it :)
Great to hear, well done 😀
My mom did that when I was 13! It is still my favourite cake I ever had ^^
My Mom made me one when I was 5, I still remember it and still love it. ❤
As a 40+ guy with zero cake making skills (I can cook, but nothing fancy) it's the other way around for me, my 8 years old daughter made a magnificent chocolate cake for my birthday (all by herself, using just basic ingredients from our pantry). It was a mind blowing surprise for me, I knew she likes cooking but had no idea she got so good at it so quickly.
Thats a great cake to start with, too! Pretty forgiving and still fun if its not perfect. 😊
ann is always so realistic, she never hides information, there’s never disappointment when ann is involved because she always explains everything so well and describes what could gp wrong and how to avoid it. that’s what i love about this channel. keep doing what you do!!!! you’re really awesome!!!!

@@mariomario1462 Cultist, no not at all. They are stating how they feel, it's not cringe. Cringe would be if they were fake or trying to get something for that praise.
I agree with them. I can always come here to find realistic vids with actual factual information. Not like the vids where people try to make everything fake and perfect just so it looks good for the camera. Those vids give people unreal expectations which will end up badly.
I'm so glad that ANTI-CHEF made an appearance - some of his fails have been pretty epic. I love how he never tries to hide how hard certain things can be, and perseveres in spite of his shortcomings. I love watching him learn over time, and get better and better at all the food things. He is amazing, naked and great entertainment. He really shows what it can be like for an average home cook to struggle with high-level cooking, and his work is just so great and informative.
I also enjoy Jamie's channel, he is so positive all the time that I've been braver with my own cooking and trying new things!
Yes I love him!!
He is amazing but I haven't seen him naked...
Agree, I discovered him a couple years ago and watch all of his videos. "Bowl me!"
His infamous vanilla bean incident 😂
My sister did a wedding cake for someone, it turned out absolutely beautiful, but she did it for $300 and she probably spent $900 in time alone as the couple also wanted a cake tasting of different cakes and slightly different styles that required her to buy special equipment. She also used the best ingredients she could find. I think it’s a good lesson as when one tries something for the first time and are confused about pricing, talk to a professional in that field first.
in general we are not good at judging what a job we're not knowleadgeable in costs. And when we're new to something, sometimes we overestimate what we can do in a given timeframe, and we learn the hard way
Doing what you love to do vs doing it to just make money.
This could be a nice side thing, cost to cover the ingredients is the main point.
But that 2nd one wasn't even close.
First of all if you TRY something for the first time don't do it on customer.
I think social media is giving people unrealistic expectations about what they can get from their local bakery. The inspiration for that second cake is really top tier. I really wish people knew their local baker isn't going to be able to do that. That is rare skill.
Yeah. I think I'd just ask for a simple cake with some merringue mushrooms and maybe a few lines to simulate bark. It's not like my budget would allow for much more, anyway. :D
all the debate about who was right or wrong in the birthday cake fail and i'm just sitting here bewildered as to why she'd need such an elaborate cake for a kid's first birthday 😭😭
Two words: boomer grandma. She's retired and has money to spare, and it's probably her first grandchild. So, she splurged for her own sake.
Let's be honest, this cake was not really for the birthday girl. Really, it's more like a celebration of the parents for taking care of a newborn for a year. I agree though, grandma should've waited til she was a bit older unless the mom really likes cottage core.
I know, right? I'm just sitting here thinking, "Ma'am, have you heard of Publix?" 😂
I was thinking the same tbh. Like the kid's not even going to remember what the cake looked like. Why not just go for something simpler and save some money and a headache? Feels like the specific cake chosen was more for grandma's appeal than anything else tbh.
Would've been better to save that money for later university years.
As someone with a latex allergy the idea of balloons in the stabbable cakes moves them even deeper into horror movie territory for me hehe. So maybe people should check if anyone the cake is intended for has that issue. Great video 🙂👍
I don't have an allergy, but the flavor and smell of latex always leaks into whatever it's touching. I can smell it on my hands even after washing them and putting scented lotion on them.
A very valid concern, I wonder if a nitrile glove could be used in a similar way. Maybe even more horror-movie though...
Another comment suggested a small cylinder that you then fill with liquid and float something that's just a little smaller than the opening of the cylinder. Then when you stab it acts like a syringe. Though it would make even more of a mess probably
@@cerrida82I was going to comment the same thing. Not only is the idea of a cake that bleeds when you stab it already unappetising, but add to it the taste and smell of latex and it would be a medical themed inedible cake for me
I love how you never attack or blame a cake failure, you just show practical ways to deal with it. Thanks, Ann.
It's lovely how positive she is about these things. Yeah the first thing didn't work out, but that doesn't have to be the end!
For the negative space cake effect, I think a better way to make it work is not to use a balloon at all. I would use a cylindrical container, open at the top, but float a disk that is only slightly smaller than the container on top of the fluid. That way the knife would push the disk down (rather like a syringe) but because there is a small gap around it, the fluid would spurt upward. You could even have a smallish hole in the disk to help direct the fluid upward.
Oo, nice idea!
Alright, who let the engineer into the cake club? Jokes aside this is a great idea but would probably make even more of a mess from the sheer volume of liquid displaced that fast xD
The issue would be hiding it with smooth icing, and trying to ice the cake with something moving/wiggling on top! I might be afraid of it leaking around the edges and staining the icing as well. But maybe if you hide it under a slightly thicker layer like some cake on top of the "plunger" and were planning on filming/serving it in a matter of minutes....
@@mwater_moon2865 Or a layer of something naturally very thin but easy to break through, something like baking parchment or the like. Decent amount of strength to keep the icing on, but flimsy enough that downward force would just push it in without any effort and it should theoretically fold into the cylinder and not obstruct the liquid coming out.
I can feel both sides in the fairy cake debate. It was likely wrong to assume that you get an extravagant cake for $200 when you pay that amount for a basic and slightly fancy wedding cake. But I'd also be bummed if I paid a lot of money (and $200 is a lot of money) and got that result. Maybe the cake decorator should have communicated with the buyer when she realised that she won't be able to make the exact cake with the available time and money, offer to make a similar cake and find a solution before the disappointment sets in.
I agree, If I ask for a quote for something from a photo I expect the person doing the service to be able to quote accurately.
On the other hand, it is your job as a customer to check the person's previous work. Like normally if you commission art from someone you check their portfolio to see examples of their work. So you can somewhat accurately gauge if they'd be a fit for what you want. $200 is a lot of money, but it's nowhere near how much this kind of cake should have cost. I do agree though that this seems like a huge communication issue on the baker's side. They didn't bother to level expectations, figure out a good price, etc. They didn't even bother to get the *colors* right..
I wanna know just a bit more personally - did she get quoted $200 or did she insist on it? I've seen a good handful of people trying to shame bakers and stuff for giving them bad cakes for $$$ and then turns out, they basically bullied the baker into accepting too low a price and getting more or less what they paid for and being mad that they didn't get a $1000 cake for $100 [exaggerating]. Also! Not at all saying that this is what happened - I've seen people overcharge for work that's not worth it too, no doubt at all -- but I'm like so curious about the behind the scenes since cakes are one of those industries where you kind of need both sides of the story to know who's really in the wrong [if anyone!]
I hope it was really just a situation of the baker maybe being too panicked or new to realize they undercharged/couldn't do the work/should say something ahead of time and tried to do their best. And I hope that the buyer was a lovely customer and it was just one of those things that sometimes happens.
@@Crow_Smith Yeah since cakes are largely an art project there's no standard really on pricing. So a lot of it does come down to what's available, what's being done, etc. That's why you get quotes and why you should be checking portfolios of the person's work. That bit alone would have been able to show what the person's skill level is and if they could do something like that picture of the mushroom cake that was wanted.
What happens a lot of times is people see shows like Cake Boss and see these absolutely stunning cakes but don't see the cost. So then they go into these places wanting these cakes they see on media but they want it for way too cheap.. yet complain that it's already too expensive cause they don't understand just how much it costs them. I like how Ann included the price of the basic ingredients and showed how it was already nearing the $200.
@@Crow_Smith I think it was a case of the baker overestimating their abilities. Sweetkhrissy says that she made her disappointment known to the cake decorator and they said: "Well, I will admit it was a lot harder than I thought it would be."
❤ Ann and Jaimie crossover, great. ANTI-CHEF is so fun to watch, you can see how his skills develop as he goes and he never"gives up without a fight".
I agree that $200 isn't going to be enough for such an extravagant cake, however the cake decorator should've come back and said she wouldn't be able to do that cake because it's outside of her decorating level.
Yep, once you agree, you have to keep and keep and keep working until you've hit the budget (not including your own labour costs- that's a bonus when you work for yourself) and then present whatever the result is and apologize. Only then can you do it no-refund.
@@demo2823 well she is owed a refund cause that cake was horrendous and a 3 tier cake for $200 is way too cheap. The cake lady should’ve said no cause it’s clearly out of her level
I mean, everything you do is simply fabulous, but that wood grain hack is marvellous! A hack that actually works!
I used to use that same trick with FIMO, making miniatures to replace the character cards in a _Talisman_ set.
Yes that made me save the video lol
Agree utterly!
8:08 Dang... Now I see why my bf is a cook and not a baker/cake decorator. In 3 hours he can make dishes for so many clients, compared to one cake.
Huge respect to bakers, because it takes A TON of patience to do what they do!
Baking itself is hard, it's literally a science, but decorating cakes to make them look that good? That takes genuine skill and a lot of specific knowledge and tools
@@Cynsham Plus genuine artistry. Someone can have all the skills to decorate a cake with high quality decorations, but it still won't look good if they don't have an eye for it.

"Don't say I didn't warn ya!" I see what you did there Ann, and I love it ❤😂
That wood grain trick with the fondant (fondue :P) blew my mind. It lookd so incredibly good and realistic. And it's so simple to do. If i ever get into making cakes, i'll definitely keep hat one in mind.
I started this video and wondered if it was a reupload for a second because I rember your blank space cake
You've been around for a very long time if you remember that episode... here a loyal subscriber award 🏆
@HowToCookThat ahhh I'm so pumped! I've been around since 2014 I think. You are the first youtube channel I ever notification followed!
I don’t think anyone with 0 baking experience has the time and courage to be messing with fondant last minute, but I appreciate your faith in us 😂
I love Jamie! I remember when he made the cake. Most of the time, his recipes work out but the failures are informative (& often funny) too. He just got a studio because he & the missus are expecting their first baby. Hopefully, by the time he starts making birthday cakes, his baking skills improve 😂
I'm very confused; one person called him Dave, you call him Jamie, and since I'm not the least bit familiar with him, I have no clue what his real name is!
@@jb6712 The name of the person who made the cake with the candy inside is Jamie, Ann's husband is Dave. Jamie has a you tube channel named Ani-Chief.
well hes got a few years before the baby will be able to remember what the cake looked like
The tip about practicing on baking paper is gold. It's like anything else, practice on something that doesn't matter so that you can pull it off when it does matter. 😀
Thanks so much for your teaching and your art, Ann. They are a bright spot in my week and a joy, always. ♥
I absolutely love that the Cake Rescue series is incorporating your love of experiments, and trial and error. You're normalizing the idea that creating something often means experimenting to find out the right way to do it!
Omg, Anti Chef! I'm so happy to see him appear here. He does his very best on every recipe, and always shows the reality of how difficult these things can be to produce, especially when it's not something you've been trained in. I remember watching that episode and thinking "Where's Ann when you need her?😅"
For that second cake, the fact that it had a bunch of gummies inside instead of hard candies also makes a big difference. When you squish them all together they want to spring back out!
Re: the 200 dollar cake, I think you're right about the decorator's biting off more than they could chew. They shouldn't have accepted the order in the first place. The client also should have looked into what to expect from any particular cake decorator, of course, and found one that could actually deliver what would be requested, but at the end of the day it's unprofessional to promise a product that isn't possible.
Jamie the Anti-Chef made it onto your channel, I'm elated! On another note, I wanted to say that we got your cookbook from a friend based in Australia and now we're enjoying your recipes here in Slovakia, and I must say they are lovely and the guidance is great! Thanks for what you're doing for the average Home Baker Janes and Joes throughout the world!
3:40 reminds me of going to the nurse and them trying to draw blood from my tiny veins. They just kept bouncing the needle out of the way. 😂
Didn't expect to see Jamie on here, that was a fun crossover ☺️☺️ some of his mistakes were a bit justified tho because he was following a gbbo recipe book iirc, and the directions weren't as kind as Anne 😅
Wow I gotta say that Mushroom Cake Rescue was absolutely phenominal and has inspired me to want to make soething along those lines { although a bit more simplified } for my friend who love sNature and will be celebrating his 83rd Birthday next year. This ones definitely going on my pinterest board. Great instructions as usual Ann xxx
As a pretty poor cake decorator, I keep my expectations low and designs simple. That fairy cake creator was in way over their head and should never have accepted the job. Aside from being unable to produce the cake, they obviously had no clue at all how much to charge.
7:01 wait! $200 for a one year old birthday cake?
It must have been a very big party. Some families are large and some other kids are very sick so a 1st birthday can be a huge celebration.
But, the original cake was probably more like $1,200 - $1,500 USD.
@@marcusfarcusno fr like how was lady expecting anything like the pic for $200

Everything she does is completely useless to me (I'm not going to try and make cakes like this), but I love the videos still!
@merinsan Yeah, I'm not a baker, but I really appreciate her style and all of the different subjects she covers! Dave and her boys are amazingly sweet to try all of the crazy things she comes up with! 🤭😊
the mushroom cake rescue was absolutely gorgeous! you're right there were no winners in that transaction - the buyer was nuts for expecting that level of expertise and detail for $200, and the baker should have declined the order as being beyond their skill level. thanks for another great video ann!
Your cake fail and old recipe videos are my absolute favourite. I love watching you bake, not only are you incredible at it but the way it’s filmed and edited is always so relaxing and clean. I’m always in awe at how smart you are Ann, always a great video from you :-)
that's a lovely comment, thanks so much :)
"I'm assuming it's more than that!"
Our minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. 😥 Not much more than that, Ann.
that's the federal minimum wage. most states it's much higher than that
That's federal. My state is double that
i live in Louisiana and make $7.25 an hour, so a lot of us are definitely barely scraping by on not much more than $5 an hour
Over here in California we're double that!
Same in WA state LOL ours is $16.28 which is insane
Good for you for pointing out that $200 barely covered the cost for even that fail cake let alone the example. The baker shouldn't have promised that they could do a cake like that for that amount, but likewise the client shouldn't have expected so much work for so little money. Who the hell spends $200 for a baby's first birthday anyway. I'm turning 40 soon, and I wouldn't expect anything fancier than a chocolate caterpillar from the supermarket 😂 And I'd still be grateful.
I like the way we handle birthdays in my faith---we don't bother with them. We understand it's nothing but a day of celebrating oneself, and that isn't something God wants, so we don't have any of the trappings, ever.
SOOO much easier than ridiculous, expensive, unwanted "celebrations" that are always disappointing!
@@jb6712 I don't like birthdays or christmas, but I'm not an unsolicited nauseating buzzkill about it
@@jb6712 As long as it's your personal choice and nobody gets shunned and chastised for wanting a birthday cake. Also, the argument that the birthdays mentioned in the Bible end unhappily is silly at best. The Bible doesn't mention indoor water supply (which was a thing for wealthy Romans) but that doesn't mean I shouldn't use tap water.
One of my biggest cake fails was a Black Forest cake. I did about 90% of it wrong. The cake itself was from scratch, it was delicious! But everything else went south. I watched Ann's videos, including a black forest cake (that might have been a fail? It's been a few years) and learned. I just gave it another try and it wasn't perfect, but it wasn't a fail and everyone loved it.
Learning from videos is the only way I can produce anything of value. From cooking to baking to crocheting to knitting, I've learned how to make edible and usable creations! I REALLY appreciate the content creators who are actually creating. I wish there were more, as there used to be.
the result of that wood effect was amazing
That baker has the "how hard can it be" gene and found out exactly how hard it is
Ooooh and a Jamie fail at the end, great episode 🎉
I know that this is not the point of your video but I am _so upset_ that that lady thought she could pay only $300 AUD for cake like that. The decorator shouldn't have taken the job, but people need to stop expecting masterpieces for rock bottom prices. I am in utter awe at your skills, even though you make it look simple, people need to understand how much those skills are worth.
Also real flowers can be toxic on cakes, so be careful.
Yes, communication is key. And the decorator knowing just how much time something like this will take them make, which is experience.
Yeah it's definitely an issue on both sides. The decorator seems to be new and didn't bother to even look at how much things would cost or how much time it'd take. I swear they took the job thinking "Sure I can make a mushroom" but didn't bother to even try to create what the person actually said they wanted. You can tell that part with how the decorator didn't even get the *basics* the same like the color scheme. As you said, the customer though shouldn't have expected that gorgeous cake from the picture at $200.. yes that's a lot of money for the average person, but that's nowhere near enough for the level of cake they wanted.
Oh and also the woman corrected herself on the "real flowers" she meant they were supposed to be "real" as in fondant but the decorator just threw on some fake plastic flowers.
A customer who doesn't know the field can't be expected to know the cost of ingredients, time taken for decoration etc. I'm sure most people have no idea what goes into making a super fancy cake. I know I didn't. On the other hand, it is the job of a professional in that sector to know how much a particular product will cost (materials and labor time) and give a reasonable quotation. If the customer was told "what you want costs much more to make and I don't have the skill to do it", she could have found another vendor and increased her budget, or simplified her order. I'm "upset" that the dishonest vendor took advantage of this (obviously not wealthy or highly educated) customer's lack of knowledge by deceiving her into paying for a service she should have known she couldn't provide.
Clearly the cake maker shouldn’t have taken the job at any price.
The thing is: For someone who is not very familiar with a craft, it is VERY difficult to find out which price is acceptable. Yes, you can look at other cakes and see how much they cost, but the really tricky part is to find out _which exact parts_ make the thing expensive. People may be able to count the number of tiers but won't realise that every tiny details costs time.
The minimum wage across the US varies between $7.25 an hour and $20 an hour.
Based on the woman's accent, it's likely that she lives in a place with the lowest minimum wage. It's entirely possible that she believed she was getting a deal or only slightly undervaluing the decorator's work especially if it was a home baker and not a shop (cottage food law).
Regardless of price, which would vary wildly across the country, the decorator was not skilled enough to complete the cake and time required to educate on the subject should've been included in the quoted price. Or even just buying actual flowers, which would also bring up the cost.
The blame falls more on the baker/decorator than the customer because the customer has no way of knowing the projected cost of ingredients, time required to create it, their current skill level, and what the baker feels is a fair wage for themself. Whereas the baker is privy to all that information.
2:05 You can't compress liquid (noticeably), so no matter how you do it with a balloon, you're only stretching the outer rubber skin, which won't produce a spurt (but does allow you to add more and thus make the second stab look more effective). Maybe a second air-filled balloon under the top ballon with the "blood" would produce a spurt - but it would probably be harder to control, more explosive, and ultimately too messy.
I’ve been doing a cake save retrospective this last week watching all the previous eps, so didn’t realise this was a new one!!

I have always wanted to know how long it takes you to come up with these cake rescues Ann? Your amazing.😊❤
The 'door' made from mixing fondant colours made my jaw drop 😮 It was so good!
Ok, but why does someone want a cake that looks like you're trying to murder someone. Whether it works or not it seems so weird to be stabbing cake like that.
agreed
People like the gimmick of it. That's basically the point of social media now.. it could be fun for like people having a party over an ex and the cake involves stabbing a heart where blood comes out. Again though it's just a cake and it's just fun.
I do feel it would be cool if you have a halloween thing, or horror theme birthday or something like that. For a normal event ... bit off yeah.
@@Acide950 Yeah I highly doubt anyone's going to want a random bleeding heart cake just because. It'd be a theme party of some kind. Like it could be similar to the music video where it's all about an ex. It could be, like you said, a Halloween style party. It could be a horror movie party cake as well.
@@Acide950it’s Friday 13 here so Ann posting it seemed appropriate!
It is a banner day when my two favorite UA-cam cooking shows meet each other. I adore you, Ann -- and find Jamie / Anti-Chef SO inspiring. In eight years, he has gone from "I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm going to try" to making Michelin star recipes. "I'm not going to give up without a *fight*" is his (extremely relatable) tag line. :)
amazing! the science of blank space was very interesting
"And it is on the floor too" Loved how matter of fact you said that.
Ann you are a treasure! You are so sweet and supporting, if any of these people saw your video, I'm sure it would give them courage to try it again.
Hey it’s Jamie from Anti-Chef! I love his channel. He knows he’s bad at making cakes and does them anyway. One of my favorite cooking channels!
There are some discrepancies with the adorable mushroom cake. An avid baker would be getting all of those ingredients at cost and who’s to say this grandmother would’ve had a problem paying more, I mean that’s just the price the cake maker gave her unless there’s more to the story that we didn’t just hear. I mean she could’ve went into the bakery and said I would like to duplicate this cake at any cost or on the flipside came in and said how much does it cost for you to duplicate this cake and had the baker said $700 then she would’ve just said no so to me the baker was completely in the wrong. Again unless there was more to the story that I did not hear but the customer should’ve been given the opportunity to have the cake that she asked for and given the correct price that it would cost.
I love love love cake rescue! It's so inspiring to know that good things can come from bad outcomes, and I've used these videos before to help save my own over-ambitious project. Thank you so much for all your time and money spent on these videos to help people like me!
I think the ppl who made the cake should've told them that the cake is too detailed or something and that they only do simple cake designs so that it wouldn't be such a disappointment on the client's side
When she said the first cake belongs in a horror movie, I just started to drink my tea and did an accidental spit take…had to clean my iPad off 6:10
Your woodland cake was stunning! I would have been thrilled to serve that cake at a party! You sure do make things look easy! 😂
You're one of few youtubers that upload at a time when I'm awake (NZ) and I love coming home from work on a Friday to a new upload, it never disappoints! Thank you for still making such great videos all these years later
Absolutely stunning!!❤❤❤
These are so amazingly detailed, I love the effort that goes into each one! Not only do you do multiple rescues per video, but you also do them in a way that the layman can follow, while making it entertaining and artistic! Truly high-quality work, thank you!
I actually don't watch UA-cam anymore but your channel is the only one that I enjoy watching among all UA-cam channels
You don't watch UA-cam anymore, but you enjoy watching Ann's channel "among all UA-cam channels." Rather contradictory statement, isn't it?
@@jb6712 you get the gist of it don't you? I don't usually watch videos anymore, but whenever I come to check yt and see her video, I always watch it. I'm just saying something I've noticed for a while now that UA-cam doesn't interest me as much as it used to, but i still follow up to her vids
I loved seeing Anti-chef Jaime on this one! His channel is great and even though he's had quite a few baking fails he keeps trying to improve and learn more techniques. Another awesome video Ann!
How about we get Anne to 5 million subs?
She needs to do some shorts.
that would make her very happy :)
That first cake is magical. So beautiful.
This was Fun!! good one
I love Jamie's channel! Sometimes it's chaos but I love him because he's not afraid to show the fails.
I think for the Taylor Swift cake if you use a ziplock bag or small plastic bag it would work better if you trap some air into it (like blowing in air with a straw), because trying to get an explosive splash reminded me of popping chip bags so I thought if there’s a big air in it, it might help push the jam or filling out more dramatically 😅😅
Yeah, as she mentioned, you'd need something pressurized to a like *perfect* level for the particular cake for it to come out just right. Which would mean both the bag and the knife have to be done well. You'd need to stab it at a certain angle and speed for it to come out right. I think what Ann ended up with is perfect once you'd use something a bit thicker to be more blood-like.
I'm still really pleased with how my halloween pinata cake turned out. I butter-creamed the outside and I've never claimed to have much skill in making them look smooth or beautiful, but I also had a bunch of halloween sprinkles that included "eyes" so I smooshed them into the icing. It looked silly and wonderful, and then the inside was full of m&ms. They didn't flow out properly, but they were visibly loose and in there, so I consider that a success
No, the mushroom cake didn't look like the picture but it did look like a cake worth $200. I really hope that decorator wasn't tagged in that video. They clearly put a lot of work into it regardless of if the customer was satisfied.
I love seeing Anti-chef. I love Jamie, followed him for a few years now. He tries so hard, has learned alot and gotten so much better at both cakes and food, He never gives up and is never shy about showing his mistakes :)
Why would you want to stab a cake that squirts at you?
Make sure you wear an apron.
aesthetics...or you're hosting a halloween party
Entertainment value.
I was so surprised to see Jamie from Anti-Chef on your channel! Don’t judge him harshly! He is the first to admit he is not a baker, cake decorator or chef but he is trying to teach himself all these things! Something most people would never attempt! Check him out but I recommend starting with his early videos so you can see him when he didn’t know anything in the kitchen. Then you will understand how far he has come ON HIS OWN 😮!!! Some of the things he does when he’s attacking something he hasn’t tried before are hilarious!!! Including that cake! 😂😂😂
Yep I’m a big Anti-Chef fan! And a big fan of Ann’s, too!
😂 The cake stabbing
So a new business idea. Like the smash rooms.
Anne, You are a true artist! It takes loads of practice to become as skilled as you are. Thanks for sharing your rescues and ideas.
I am so chuffed that you took my suggestion and rescued the anti-chef's cake. It doesn't matter if I was not the only one; I love having a tiny effect halfway across the world as if it were quantum theory
The Blank Space pun is just so mastermind of Ann 🤣
My only Aussie subscriptions are Ann and Beau Miles. What if they did a collab? Ann could make a dish out of food Beau scavenged!?
I love your cake rescues. It's helpful and entertaining. Not to mention how nice it is to see solutions possible for the average person. Thank you!💙
6:30 was that an intentional reference
Yes 😀
I love cake rescue!! My mom and I made a bleeding cake for my sister's birthday last month and it was so much fun. The method we used wasn't intended to spurt, but it was much more food safe (and hooray no plastic to wrangle): we made a raspberry coulis and froze it in a disk beforehand to put in the middle of the cake as we stacked the two layers. After a few hours the coulis had thawed and the cake gushed beautifully when we cut it. It made me think of your channel, actually :)
Hi Ann!
Hi the gaming seargent, it's been along day of filming today and I've just sat down to upload. Seeing your comment made me smile. Thanks for being here every week.
:)
Oh my! Was surprised to see Jamie on here, I love watching his channel as well as yours.
6:26 omg, not food coloring 😭 i hope this person is doing ok because i would not be after having to clean all that up
11:16, LOL. it's that simple. LOL... It is amazing how authentic that looks.
17:59 barely more than $5/hr. It’s $7.25/hr I’m pretty sure. Some states have raised it but federally it’s $7.25/hr.
I love how accurately you always recreate the fails
My question would be, why spend a ludicrous amount of money for a cake for a one year old? The one year old probably would have had more fun with a cheap cake and ripping it apart with their hands.
Yeah, that fancy cake definitely isn't meant to appeal to the birthday child. It bugs me how people treat very young kids like they're just a prop at their own birthday. I'd much rather tailor everything to the birthday child than look fancy to guests.
Your Cake Rescue videos are always my favorite to see!
I love how they've evolved over the years to show in detail how to prevent this from happening, explaining techniques, how it happened and then leading into the rescue itself.
Always love learning from your videos. Have a lovely weekend Ann! 💙
I really hate when people try to make excuses for "professionals" who would rather deliver something horrible than admit they can't do the job. If the decorator agreed on $200 for what the client was asking for, that's on them, don't take a job you can't fulfill.
A CAKE RESCUE?! Oh I LOVE these! Thank you!
Your level of skill is amazing. I'm here for the explanations and because I love how rational you are, but those cakes are simply incredible. Seeing how easily you make them shows how much you've practiced.
I’m glad to be back on UA-cam, Ann, I missed you a lot.
G'day Byron
Not just imaginative and creative, but artistic, too. Bravo!
That fairy cake rescue looks absolutely stunning. You did it so well! Amazing!
I love Anti-Chef's videos. That cake needed rescue. Good job, Ann!
What a delight to see Anti-Chef, what a fun surprise!
