I know how it feels like to not really fit in, but like you said, somewhere down the line, it stops mattering what xyz thinks. You show up for yourself the way you like it and that feels so good.
Oy. You should speak to tweens and teens. They can be sooo vulnerable. The love-yourself message (in whatever form) can not be repeated enough! Thank you for video!! ❤
I got called practically the same word around the same age my one of the girl from school, and I honestly had no idea what it meant and just shrugged. and you know what, that may have been the best reaction
Rock it, girl. Confidence and compassion look beautiful on you. From one Asian woman to another, you're stunning and I encourage you not to hold back. #TeamJoanneLee.
Thank you for sharing your story which I identify with in so many levels. As a 48-year-old Korean professional singer, I still get mean girls and guys (mostly older men) slut shaming me on stage simply for dancing and dressing up (hello....stage presence anyone...?!). After a childhood of bullying from other girls about my weight and my thrift store clothes, I too don't give...a...fuck...for dressing and dancing how I feel like doing while doing what I love to do the most.
this was a hard hard lesson for me to learn, but like you, I'm at this point in my life where I just don't care... It's so sad that so many ppl spend time criticizing ppl for their appearance, without taking a look at themselves and what allows them to be unkind without accountability.
That dress looks freaking gorgeous!! Donot ever let the world change you Joanne..you are a blessing to yourself and inspire other women to do whatever the f they want to.❤❤
This is so powerful..it also makes me wonder if I have to experience this x amount of times for these incidents to not even bother me anymore no matter how much times I tell myself I did nothing wrong Thanks for sharing and you look sooo stunning in those shoes and dress ❤
Ir really stinks to not fit in. Asperger’s/Autism sucks. You are a good cook and an amazing person. But hearing your stories, it’s like therapy to me. Thank you.
My friend called me a slut when I was around that age too. But the thing is I knew she didn't know what it meant. So I told her and explained to her why I can't possibly be a 'slut'. She was so embarrassed and insisted it also has another meaning 😂
Just a reminder, it's not exactly unusual for white people to speak spanish cause spanish... is a white language from spain. Also, hey! Im 14 and homeschooled, i haven't met any mean girls in my life, but i think your stories are so amazing your soo cool, and you remind me of my cool southern aunt Im on the gulf coast and she lives in Texas, Love that chic and Im so happy that i found someone who reminds me of her when she lives so far away. 💕
Hi joanne I’ve been following you for months and your videos always give me comfort I’m a teenage girl rn and I need advice I’m curently losing all my friends It overwhelms me I really need some kind of words to cope with this but I can’t trust anybody so why not ask the internet and your lovely community
I’m fifty eight. The older you are the easier it is to let all that self consciousness go. The trick is to learn this as early as possible. I’m glad my kids seem to be miles ahead of where I was.
The girls I went to school with when that movie came out to felt the need to live out that movie and they made a mean girl group, wrote a burn book and started targeting kids like me and others. They wrote a bunch of mean nasty things about me in the burn book they made because I wasn’t from that school or town, they tried to invite me to a sleep over and planned to bleach and cut my hair and make fun of me and bully me. They wrote a lot of mean things about the art kid in class, the disabled girl, the girls that weren’t “pretty” to them, etc. well this blew up into a HUGE deal and the principal got involved and investigated each girl and none of them got suspended or anything. These girls verbally bullied me, stole things from my desk and my homework, etc. including other students. Amanda, Megan, Mackenzie, Jacqueline, Christine… we didn’t forget about what you did.
You're beautiful! I also used to be called all sorts of names in school and I'd also not fit in, specially because i was (and still am) fat. It was a real struggle. Other kids would hate and avoid me, or just beat me and call me names. I hate them all to this day and I'm 34.
Denying others their right to heal in whatever way they choose at whatever time is right in their life only shows how emotionally repressed and passive aggressive you are. You don't have to watch Joanne's videos if they trigger you so much that it compels you to dismiss and shut her down on her own channel. Or are you the mean girl/guy...?
I know how it feels like to not really fit in, but like you said, somewhere down the line, it stops mattering what xyz thinks. You show up for yourself the way you like it and that feels so good.
That is exactly right!!! Wish I learned that sooner, but glad I finally did!

they ARE!! They are SO vulnerable!!!
The fact that an 11-YEAR-OLD knows what that word means and is using that to hurt others shows you that her parents FAILED her
I felt the same way... I was like--why are ppl even USING this word?? I hardly understood it at the time!
I got called practically the same word around the same age my one of the girl from school, and I honestly had no idea what it meant and just shrugged. and you know what, that may have been the best reaction

Lol. Last time she was talking about Billy, now Sarah and other mean girls. Let it go, Joanne. Trudging through the past will only stunt your growth.

Speak for yourself. I want to hear all the stories. Is that not that what UA-cam is an avenue for?!?
