ALICE gear is still very good equipment! It’s long lasting, found everywhere, easy to use, and cheap, It can also support a variety of weapon plat forms. I live in western TN so snow ain’t to much of a problem. But heat is and Alice helps to retain no heat and dries fast. I use it to support my FAL.
We don’t have the dexterity problem here in Texas due to cold weather clothing but this rig breaths very well when it’s 100 plus and let’s you keep from overheating
Great video! If you did want to carry a pistol with this loadout the HK USP with its oversized trigger guard makes a great choice for when you are wearing thick gloves
interesting contribution try the original Flecktarn G3 magazine pouches. you can even open them with very thick gloves and there are also ALICE adapters
I've watched the majority of your vids, but just now ran across this one. I enjoy and appreciate your perspective on how to use gear. Now that you are in a warmer state you maybe there will be helpful info you can pass along. RockOnStayFree.
I really enjoy and appreciate seeing what works for you. Cold weather is currently here in western PA. So any ideas are welcome! Keep up the great content!
This is great video amigo. I did cold weather training with marines in California mountains. Also training with 10th mountain fort drum and Training in Norway. Learning cold weather fighting is needed if we ever fight in asia.
Great video and reasoning. i just went back to the old duece gear. i just havnt found anything that i like mlre than it. its great for hot environments like down here in the deep south too. lets your body breath more.
Louisiana man here, recently bought some alice gear. Had 3 bare bone alice belts with nothing on them, except for one old alice pouch I had laying around. Mostly I've collected ak related ammo pouches because I'd been wanting to get an AK, but then needed something for AR mags since I found out ARs would be cheaper/easier to get. I've heard alice works well in hot environments, but also from this video that it works in winter as well, that's good to know since I probably will move up to a northern state sometime in the next 2-4 years. I appreciate the video man!
Sounds counter-intuitive, go buy some Chinese repro Russian web gear. It's almost the same except for unit or mos specific details. I think the Russians may add it after initial manufacture.
@@TheDoorspook11c nah I'm good I spent less money on the ALICE belt kit (about $70 for it +extra pouches) than even the Chinese repro crap that costs $125
One problem with using alice mag pouches at the 1 and 11 o'clock positions like that is if you have to go prone. They hold your hips up off the ground, preventing you from getting down low. and also press in on your diaphram, making it more difficult to breathe.
Thanks for the awesome overview. I have my Dad's old ALICE gear and I know that it's good enough. I think I even have the same inner wool button down. I'm wondering what the outside jacket you are wearing is, though. Link? Also, have you thought about white pants? Or doing white spray paint camo over some of your stuff?
I have ALICE lbe and a MOLLE flc in the much maligned Universal Camouflage Pattern aka ACU camo and I like them both since I used both during my time in. I think you would be better camouflaged with UCP with all that snow and gray wood in the background.
@@markottinger yes and no. a standard Alice mag pouch holds 3, 30 rd AR pattern mags of 5.56 nato. he's using this same pouch to hold 2 g3 mags of 7.62 nato. you can do this by turning the g3 mags 90 degrees to how the AR mags fit. however, you cannot fit 3 G3(or equivalent) mags in that pouch.
Great video I have a suggestion for a secondary weapon just put a large knife or some other kind of Mele weapon on there and take some courses on how to use a knife as a self defence . because it doesn’t matter how thick your gloves are you can still hold a knife
I have watched all of your videos and I really like them a lot. While I know it is a controversial firearm I am curious about your opinion of the Mossberg Shockwave 590 and / or the Remington 870 TAC-14 for home protection or just general use.
I think it all comes down to what the buyer wants. However, you have an obligation to hit what you're aiming at and that requires aiming. Therefore I do not think shorty shotguns that are designed for rough hip aim make much sense. Precision is the goal and your responsibility IMO
@@scottc.real_2legit_4u55 If you use them, the best way to keep on target (at close range) is to tuck your firing hand into your side with the hand right next to your pectoral muscle. It'll work fine for clearing rooms, but that's about it. It's a bit to ask of someone unaccustomed to using a shotgun. People hurt themselves all the time using them. You have to get professional training before thinking you can just figure it all out.
@Dan Thoreson The actual measurements (in metric, because Europe) are on the tags usually. If you know your American size and convert, you should be able to figure out your UK size pretty easily. The smocks are usually bigger than marked to allow for layering. If you're not layering lots of stuff underneath, you could get a smock one chest size down and still be reasonably comfortable.
Let me get this straight. You are recommending olive drab-colored gear for winter fighting in the arctic, right? Olive drab against a white background= target-rich environment (that would be you). Out of curiosity, where did you learn winter combat tactics? I ask because no amount of cool gear and trick options will save you if you are sticking out like an elephant in a rice paddy. At the very least, buy a white bed sheet to wrap up in and a white pillow case to camouflage your boom stick. Wow!
@@doitriteak You missed my point completely. I was a little blunt for a reason. Although you did a good job demonstrating equally good gear, what you showed was NOT the "Best winter gear for fighting in the arctic". It will keep you warm and your ammo at the ready, but that is all. It will not keep you safe in a firefight as you alluded to in your title (Winter Fighting Gear). If you want to claim 'Best Winter Fighting Gear in The Arctic,' then you should have been on-camera in white gear.
