I'm an ak guy and up in the mountains. This gear is a godsend when rucking it. Best gear I've owned. Distributes weight to the hips and shoulders than just the shoulders.
I'm a post-9/11, U.S. Marine veteran. Was active with 2nd Marine Division 2005-2009. When I got out, I got my first Russian AK-74 (before the ban) and SMERSH LBE.....never looked back. When I was first in 2005 we still were rocking the old school gear. We were actually the last group before all the newer issued stuff came out in 2006. I still remember training with the 782 gear and the Russian SMERSH is way better and more comfortable. If you plan on being on foot for long periods and over various rough terrain (I'm in the mountains as well)....THIS IS THE WAY. 😎
I actually want to get a smersh sas srvv vest. Just a doubt when in the mountains can u also wear a rucksack while having the vest on without getting uncomfy?
@@ojasvisikarwar5201 For me, it gets in the way. If I have an additional rucksack, I'll just take off the vest and have it strapped to the outside of the ruck. I use a USMC ILBE so it's a real quick and easy on and off. In an emergency, I can quickly drop the pack, grab the vest and run.
The thing about older gen being better is just in regards to building a specific "impression" of some Russian units like what airsofters often do. But if you're looking for functionality, then go for new gen smersh. There is a reason why they always update the design, they want it to be better.

Facts and most the guys going on about thr older one is better arnt evne talking about the smersh they are usually talking about the old partizan harness from the afghan war era
@@jacobkite5497 The Partizan isn't from the Afghan war era though. The Partizan was deployed almost in parallel with the first models of the Smersh, but it was a contract for some SOF units. Both are post-soviet era. The Partizan is rarer. Old Smersh had "better" materials (heavier-duty) than modern ones, but you're not breaking either.

Honestly after Russia stopped exports, DHL pulled out of Russia and Swift was stopped my first thought was damn I wish I had a second set of SSO gorkasmersh and a extra summer suit
There are a couple of d rings on the but pack that you can use to better secure it to the rig, I recommend using them. The rings attach to the same place as the yoke straps.
I have both ALICE and smersh, ALICE can fit on smersh, but smersh can not fit onto ALICE. Measurement of the belt for smersh is supposed to be 2", as is the ALICE belt per specs... but the buckles on ALICE are actually closer to 2.5", which prevents them from accepting smersh pouches and the like. Cool thing about earlier gen smersh, was that they actually had copied ALICE, you can see this on early 2000's models with the buttpacks.
I love the SMERSH. There are so many different variations of it so as to permit mixing and matching of what you'd want while also staying within the same color. The issue I've had with my SMERSH (2017 made) is basically the metal triglides and pouch rings rusting. Newer SSO ones seem to switch to polymer triglides but have kept the metal rings and those are easily treatable with spray paint or other coating.
Might be a bit late since video is 2 months old but I own both a newgen smersh set and a oldgen mixed set with parts from 2001 and 2005. Considering all the talk between newgen and oldgen I picked up the newgen for research purposes to compare the two. Since I have had the oldgen for 4 years now and the newgen for 3 I feel like I have gotten enough time to look and use both of them. To put it bluntly the differences are very minor even down to materials. The oldgen uses avizent as a sort of liner for the mag pouches but the outside material of heavy duty nylon remains the same. The stitching is also very similar. A lot of people try and bring up that the stitching on the oldgen is better then the newgen but the differences are so minor that I don't really think that it makes enough of a difference. My oldgen has been a beauty to wear but it also uses a different style of shoulder pads designed for PKM gunners and also uses a belt padding more like a partisan harness (lacks the additional padding and material on the lower back and upper ass). Unfortunately SSO no longer makes these accessories. I guess a final point was back 4 years ago when I purchased my oldgen the prices were quite reasonable, usually oldgens were priced only $10 more for basic sets and upwards of $50-$100 more depending on the amount of accessories and rarity of them. My big hatred for newgen was founded on the idea that you could get an almost new oldgen for just $10 more and I saw little to no reason to buy a newgen but now the prices start at around $100 more then newgen for a basic oldgen therefore my reason to hate it is gone. TLDR The differences are super minor and even if I do think that the oldgen has slightly better accessories there's no real difference or enough of one to make any impact on it.
@@Gabriel_the_Shemite my original comment is only a year old but it's pretty outdated in terms of pricing. Even if you source from the same people I buy from your still looking at at-least 300%. I'm sure I'll catch some flack for this, but I'm not a fan of the smersh. I use a larger pack when I mountain with my guns, and that ruck is on my hips - so I either had to use a different big backpack that's only on my shoulders, or take the smersh off. I personally found neither was ideal. For me the standard chest rig works better. I can use it with my pack, and all of the really heavy stuff is on my hips and legs. I can cope with a handful of magazines on my shoulders. Just my $0.02. I know mainstream stuff isn't as cool, but there's usually a reason why retro gear gets replaced. It works, but it didn't work well enough to survive the test of time compared to other designs. To me the smersh is just a gigantic battle belt with a harness. For some people it works, I'm just not one of them.
