eBay Disaster? My Fault or a Rip Off. Advanced Knife Bro Edition.

- eBay is the Wild west for collectors, so what happened when I barely read a description for a bunch of old pocket knives? This video covers my thought process, and all the junk that came out of this mystery box. I started out oil, wet and greasy, and by the end I was like that but dirtier. Ka-Bar, Ulster, Ulcers, Schrade, Kutmaster, Camp Kings, Uncle Henry and more. Sorry no Case, Great Eastern Cutlery, Queen, GEC, or anything worth a poop.

The ole "set the shipping cost at the minimum amount I want to sell it for then start the auction at 99 cents" trick... Gets 'em everytime!
I’m guilty of looking at bids and current price and ignoring shipping… oh there’s bids it must be reasonable shipping.
if your a serious re seller shipping can be a biz expense on your taxes selling price is " profit"
Those fuckers.
That trick it especially tricky for those late night drinkers
@@tikofthetoka5650 I’ll drink to that!
As someone who makes many himself, I particularly enjoy viewing the anguish of others' poor financial decisions when it comes to this hobby. Well done Opposite of Advanced Ebay Bidder Bro.
Your passion for vintage cutlery is infectious.
Tbh, I love this format. But you should do baton tests on all of these. It's only fair.
You have helped me solidify to myself why I should not go for knife mystery boxes. Thank you for your time and sacrifice.
Never has a bro's disappointment been so entertaining👍
@@christophwilhelm6431 A Zima or 12 would have made this video less painful. For him.
@@arrowheadguys7637 I drank a whole case in 96 and it did absolutely nothing.. sugar free sprite
@@christophwilhelm6431 I tell myself the same thing every time I drink and entire case of anything. Nope, I'm totally fine.
@@arrowheadguys7637 Seriously, it's water.
Back in the 90’s the EBay finds were commonly real...today sellers have it down to a science...
This is why you don't browse on E-bay when you are 20 beers into a 30 pack . ( We've all done it,live and learn)
After I watched this video, I felt much better about myself, Mr. AdvancedKnifeBro. Thank you.
I’m here for everyone’s self esteem.
The knife equivalent of Storage Wars!
Bro ship those out as giveaways. “YOU TOO can enjoy the tetanus risk from a garbage knife found under the floormats of a rusted out Ford pickup”
The disappointment in 4K was gorgeous.
Every slip joint enthusiast has been down this road at least once. I did it because i promised myself i would refurbish anything with a full blade. 10 years later, they're all still soaking in the tub of mineral oil on my sharpening bench.
Naval jelly is your friend
No this was %100 worth it, I've always been tempted to do this and I think this will help me steer clear, seriously thank you.
And yes I came for the knives but I've stayed for the face
AKB is a warning to us all…. If you collect knives long enough, you too will also become insane and desperate enough to troll eBay. This vid is a public service. Thanks AKB
Perfect for my second Saturday off in seven years. I was worried I would be productive so thank you for doing what you do.
You were right, the Uncle Henry is in excellent shape and would go for around $30 on eBay.
Remarkable...I could smell that bag through the video. I had to go wash my hands after watching.
"It ain't a Kamp King without the BALE!"
Literally a trade mark
Your excitement and enthusiasm really jumped off the screen!!! One serious issue though….no batoning? You could have tested one of those jems, and batoned….maybe a banana. If one were to baton a slip joint, with a slip joint….would knife snob heads explode?
This video completely encapsulates the feeling you get after bidding on something at 2am and then spending the next week hoping someone else comes over the top. Then there is the general sadness when it shows up and you know you were duped.
The small manicure knives from Solingen / Germany have been a mainstay of their industry. Besides simple "peasant" Sodbusters and "Nicker" hunting fixed blades and the Black Cat, these might be the quintessential "German" pocket knives.
Great video, The "USCG" marked burnt knife could be a WWII era United States Coast Guard knife.
I don’t know what’s more depressing, the condition of those knives or that anyone owns that many slipjoints, or that I watched a video about someone owning that many slipjoints.
Definitely the last one
Brilliant idea selling garbage for $80 shipped. Ima go package up some garbage to eBay now.
At least this week you didn’t make me want to buy anything. You’re an Unfluencer too. You’re truly advanced.
Always entertaining regardless of quality.
Also, I wonder what the seller's thought process was. "Put together a bag of rusty old useless knives, someone'll buy 'em." Pride of workmanship for realz.
What an accomplishment! I made it through the whole video! This was painful but I’m trying to build up a tolerance to over extended bs reviews. Thank you for the exercise.
This video gave me PTSD from working as an Estate Auction Auditor. How many grieving widows and children who thought grand pappys Big 5 / Flea Market collection was a gold mine. Half the time the boxes that held the knives were far more valuable than the knives themselves.
I think we’ve all been bitten by eBay. I thought the Engraved German you did in the beginning would clean up nicely. Also thank you for the video
I have the sinking feeling that I would watch this man clean out the garage while drinking and cussing. Is this a new low or just a refinement in what I accept as entertainment?
That Imperial made in Germany looks a lot like something we'd call a "Toledo Knife" could be made anywhere from 1900 to 1990. I don't know why we call 'em Toledo Knife but they were the first "Gentleman" Knives and usually had very elaborately decorated scales
Encase them all in resin on top of an old table and make that your new table top background.
This
“These are going to part of an up coming giveaway” 😂
Good content if nothing else. I buy something maybe once a year on eBay and only if its not an auction. If I ever place a bid on on the most obscure, random piece of shit that only I would want, some other asshole will still outbid me.
Beer and eBay rarely result in good things 😂
Looks exactly like the cigar boxes full of crappy old guy knives that me and my cousins had when we were kids.
Try a gunshow. One i frequent has a guy that sells TSA confiscation knives for cheap. Look over, pick what you want, clean at home. Found a few decent ones
The best finds I think were:
The uncle Henry
The Kabar TL-29 (military knife, later sold commercially to civilians)
The USCG (if restored) could maybe be cool haha
G C Co I want to say was Gutmann Cutlery Corp. they did a lot of importing from Germany, italy, and Japan?
solid Al Capone's Vault vibes.
This is the single most entertaining "Box Opening" from eBay I've ever seen! I've found some REAL Gems but also taken a couple of baths from sellers. I have always avoided the LOT, junk drawer or TSA nonsense. TSA Stolen goods from honest hard working folks I have a particular hatred for. First the TSA Steals it from you, then the thieves that worked for the TSA Steal it from the TSA treasury! Then they sell their Stolen goods on eBay and the eBay Thieves get a cut of the stolen money! Thieves profiting from thieves!
Naturally if you try to complain to New Delhi Customer Service all they EVER do is tell you how important you are as a customer and then deny your claim.
I report fakes and counterfeits at least 1 or 2 per week, they never get stopped or removed.
I loved it! That was absolutely refreshing to watch! I'm so sick and tired of the gushing fanboys!
That bottle-opener on the main blade of that contact-paper looks extremely safe...
Ulster pocketknife are quite collectable items now.
You make me feel so good about my shitty eBay purchase. Thank Advanced Knife Bro 👍
Wife balancing. Sounds fun!
The one at 9:00 id clean it up and carry the crap out of that knife. The long pull carbon blades just did it for me 🤩
I have a USA-made balisong that I purchased over 20 years ago that is literally the worst knife I've ever seen.
'Distracted' shopping goes wrong!
🤗
Wait! I’ll BUY the electrician’s knife for $50. No questions asked.
…Ahhh, gotcha!
The bright side of this is that with The use of a wire wheel and some oil you have a good set of knives you could use to play Mobley Peg
Mumboly Peg
I'm sorry for your loss.
White balance. Framing. You've gone totally Hollywood.
Feel for you man that looked painful
"Rostfrei" is German for stainless steel. That Hong Kong knife didn't have ROSTEREI printed on it, it said ROSTFREI.
A lot of stainless steel knives in the 20th century had ROSTFREI stamped on the tang, including Victorinox.
🤷♂️
Online or in a store - I'm pretty sure most of us have spent money that we later regretted and were scratching our heads "Why'd I do THAT! HUH?" I've got one of those chunky handled pruning knives, but with a stronger curve in the blade. I like it just because it looks wicked while being something you use on FLOWER stems. I'd love it more if it had some kind of lock on it, the idea of that curved edge biting into my fingers quite gives me the 'jeebies'. Not many content creators could share twenty minutes of self loathing and regret with such elan. Top job.
"Is this a big waste of everyone's time"
Well..yeah, but go ahead, we'll watch 😉
"Hazardous Waste on the Fucking Table".
Dude..... Your house is haunted. Lil ghost boy said "hello" at 10:24. Sooooo yeah good luck with that... 😂
I'm from Ulster. Never knew about Ulster knives though. Think I'll give them a miss.
I feel your pain. I got excited on a manix 2 with 1/4 inch of tip missing. Of course I won the auction
When the CDC traces a brand new pandemic back to the source they'll pinpoint the lip touch at 10:40 as minute zero.
And the final gift 🎁 the bag full of rust dust from all those knives 😂
"we make trash here too." 😆
I have always wondered if those bulk lots or TSA grab-bags were as bad as they looked. Thanks for confirming that they are even worse by the look of it. I'm pretty sure they comb through the lots and pull out anything actually worthwhile to sell individually, and these are just the dregs.
lmfao " god damn nail ripper "
Terrifying eBay bidding...many times you win immediately and know you're going to be sorry. I recently got a counterfit cold steel knife and felt really stupid.
Lol, thanks for sharing this “anticipation of doom” experience. Sometimes you get a good one in a random grab bag and sometime you get a bag of flaming poo. Eh, such is life. Enjoy your Kutmaster and Uncle Henry!
May not have been worth $80 but it sure was entertaining to watch
The thought I couldn't shake during this video? 'Oh damn, I hope he stops touching his mouth. Maybe he's sanitizing between - nope, holding the knife, touching the mouth.' 😳
Remember the 007 flick knives? Would be cool to see you review them and give a history. Thanx much my guy, keep up the awesome work.
Hope you have a updated Tetanus shot !!!
It's nice to see a knife reviewer who doesn't treat everything made in USA as it is sacred.
The Ka-Bar Electricians knife cleaned up would probably be worth around $80-$90 if you’re willing to put in the work. Having the cloud shield on there is quite desirable to collectors.
Kind of you to donate to that eBayer's recycling effort ;)
I feel better about some of my purchases.
Thanks
I have 3 of those camp kings all from different places and all of them have that blade snapped off! WTF! why! what he hell was it used for
You had me dying man! This is such a great channel. Especially when I need some laughs. Hahaha
When are you going to review the new line up of flashlights? It’s getting exciting again with new companies eagerly building their brands
"Makeup Dept." Dude I've seen Long Covid suffers that look better. Enjoyed the vid dude!
Just got home from work and had to shut the air off for recording. It was not ideal- which I guess fits the theme. Greasy dude, greasy knives
Good Content.
Also, the fact that you were not wearing gloves while handling this trash gave me anxiety
I’m kinda gross sometimes.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro Aren't we all
@@AJLikesCats Yeah, only difference is most of us don't film it and post it to the internet.
Your pain was palpable, but your humor and wit remained intact.
We all win here, Mr. Bro.
It was like the Mozart of knife unboxings. Feelings of regret in the beginning, slowly turning to anguish, and eventually building to a quiet rage around the nineteen minute mark. Then, nearing the end it slowly transformed into grief, with all of it coming together at the end once he accepted all of the events that had led him to that moment.
A true masterpiece.
Shit knives in 4K is exactly what I thought it would be...disgusting
😂😂😂 Thank you, that was utterly hilarious!
What amazes me most is somebody actually had them in their pocket to get taken
Great video!
Is it schadenfreude or just a connection that I’ve been there too!?!
Be afraid be very afraid of “great deals” on eBay.
At least all of those USA made knives are made in USA not like the Benchmade and Spyderco ripoff knives from China. These are probably pawn shop leftovers from estate sales where it represents about 20 garages, sheds, and junk drawers from our dearly departed of that Greatest Generation.
Thank you for this video it was very cathartic. 🙏
Who caress if it’s actually made in the USA if it’s a complete piece of shit?
It's not a bad find! Good score, clean them up and do a giveaway vid or something with them. That TL 29 is military issue, you did damn good with the UH too! Your vids are the funniest
I was a little to stoked about Friday. I want to thank you for bring me down. Have a great day. lol. Thanks for all the videos Bro.
I like this...Great video!🦉
Watched a few videos of these "TSA confiscated" lots, but it's clear nice(r) stuff would've been picked out already... Or, people would rather miss a flight than ditch their nice knife (can you send stuff home from the airport?).
Glad you didn't hurt yourself going through that junk.
I smell prizes for the 100k live giveaway!
After a long PBR nite - made like 6 bids on random turds - lol woke up next morning won them all 🤣🤣- Def know that feeling - kept 1 gave rest away to guys I work with
Kamp King and the classic Barlow were the first knives for millions of country boys...
I bought a box of small Swiss Army knives a few years ago. The ones that worked I put into a bag and let the winners of the cornhole game pick one. If they argued about who won, I let each one pick one. LPT: Don't argue with bikers at animal shelter fundraisers.Everyone was happy to get a SAK. I still have 20+ left. On a related note: people actually EBay their kitchen junk drawers. I have seen the posts. Mine is better than any I have seen. It does not contain any disintegrated rubber bands, and the roll of Scotch tape is still in the dispenser!
Somehow I feel dirty watching that 😂 loved the commentary
You should make all your videos like this and change your name to Depressed Knife Bro.
Band names:
"HEIRLOOM poop knife",
"LOB$T€R knife".
I think I need a long slow root canal after this.😜
That is a big old bag of crappola. Bummer.
You can probably sell at least half of those for 7 - 15 bucks each. Some WD-40, a little cleanup... Hipsters like to buy them and lie and say they got em from Grandpa.
I’m sorry this happened to you. That was rough
eBay is rough if you're not paying attention to every detail, I learned that too
Never buy "mystery lots" of anything. It's always shit people who sell at flea markets left behind because it wasn't worth the time packing it up at the end of the day.
Always appreciate the videos though!
Ah, the joys of eBay knife buying.
Sell them back on eBay. Clean em up, take some nice pictures. You'll get something for them.
