TSA found a knife that I had lost in the lining of my bag. They gave me the option to mail it to myself for about $35. Assuming this is normal, most knives confiscated are likely worth notably less than that.

In Texas, TSA sends all confiscated items to a warehouse in Austin where they sort through everything. People actually look up knives to assign value. Then they hold a public auction. They do have lots of name brand knives up for sale as well as junk knives. You can only get the good knives at the auctions. They sometimes come in bundles with junk knives. People keep the good ones and resell them individually and screw you with these leftover junk knives.
They also have a warehouse full of lost and confiscated items which you can buy outright. There are bins and bins of knives of all sorts of brands. I bought several Victorinox knives and Leatherman multi-tools at bargain prices!

Before they confiscate a knife, they give you the choice of putting it in an envelope and send it by mail to your home adress. If your knife is worth something, you do that. When it's junk you let them have it. That's what you had to expect.
