Honestly the reason why I haven't been watching many knife vids (not just you but Nick, Pete and metal complex) is because I don't have any friggin money to buy new gear. Inflation and taxes were rough this year. If knifetubers are seeing a downtick in views I suspect that's the reason. I've been watching budget oriented videos though.

Other channels are doing fine- even some that review more expensive knives. They’re just better at clickbait and release a ton more videos. The views are out there if you really want them.

I watch random peoples reviews of knives I bought and searched videos of, but then I watch the reviews of random knives from AKB and Reini (an austrian guy). I feel like not having to buy every knife I see now. I am getting better! 🤗
It's like watching wild animals, I just enjoy looking now. 😊

This point of view from a guy in the 70’s. I never liked crap banging around the bottom of my pockets. Early on when I remembered, I carried a folding knife, usually a Old Timer LB7. When pocket clips came out I was happy to carry a knife daily. I’ve tired of the constant hype regarding contemporary flippers. Now the circle is complete, just bought a Buck 110. I won’t buy now unless it’s made in America. Great presentation, thanks for the thorough review. Baldwinsville, NY

Got a bunch of Rough Ryders a few weeks ago, and the Half Hawk was one of them. Flushed the pivot with rubbing alcohol, reprofiled the blade, & it's my current fruit-slicer (yep, got more free time than love... except the love of a nice patina). The centering on mine is almost exactly the same as the one in this video. My only personal nitpicks with it are the crud in the general pivot area, even after flushing, & the scales looking & feeling like they were made of old tires. I'm not sure guys who're into traditionals have 'beaters', but I think this'd be a an option for the outliers.
Got a chortle out of the impression of the sinophobic post-and-runs... unfortunately I had a mouthful of no name onion rings at the time. Ergo, keep up the good work!

    Also worth noting about Case:
I advise getting them from a seller you can make specific requests to, like "hey make sure there's no gapping on mine when you send it," etc. They can be pretty hit and miss as of late. I have that same model of swayback and mine is pretty good, I don't think the QC is as bad on their Tony Bose models. But I still end up having to send back about 50-60% of all Cases I buy. Also, they always come sharp as a graham cracker out of the box. Just to keep in mind when buying!

Yup, a couple of my Stockmans came with rounded off blade tips, and an uneven bevel on the sheepsfoot blade.
No other problems like gaps or blade play though, I've since fixed those issues and now I rotate them for pocket carry whittling knives. 👍

    • @jackmcfarlane7173
      @jackmcfarlane7173 2 роки тому +2

@@jimmyrustler8983 yeah, they're not bad by any means. The few Cases I've actually kept are some of my favorites (and they do bone covers really well). I just resent needing to "fix" my knives as soon as they arrive, and I think people should know what to expect.

GEC is the golden child everyone says to get but I can’t ever get my damn hands on one unless I wanna fork over 2 - 3x the original price. More expensive knife reviewers have artificially made it more desirable and you can’t get it unless you’re there the second it drops or you have connections. I don’t believe they’re worth that much, let alone Boker asking $150+ for their normal production knives. Great overview regardless AKBro.

3: I get a PTSD attack whenever I see a Case knife. Bad memories, man. Bad memories.
4: Am I a heretic for not thinking GEC knives are worth the hype? I mean, I like the colour but I'm not big on jigged bone-type handles.
5: I like that Viper. The burl is beautiful.
6: That's nice. It should be for the price. But yeah, nice.
I'd have the Viper (No5). The 'Laid Back' is nice too, and the GEC one has a little romance about it. But yeah, I like the Viper.

Best produced vid of a wonky pattern. Like does it wear into a spear point with use?

You should try one of the vintage Victorinox alox knives with the old cross. It gives the similar feel to these. Old school cool. By the way, I use a lot of ad blockers for UA-cam because I can't stand today's UA-cam ads. But I support your work and some of my favourite creators with opening the video in Microsoft Edge on mute parallel with the one I watch on Chrome. That counts, right?

Personally i skip most knife vids from others due to price/unable to even purchase the knife or just dont care for the knife. But with your vids even if i have no interest (like these type of knives) i come for your writing/style. which i enjoy as a newer person into knives and wanting something different form a review.

I don't remember seeing your knees before. Is it weird that is what stood out for me? I wonder if Shabazz has ever shown the knees... I'm pretty sure Pete has shown the knees.

Lol glad someone is pointing out the leaded nature of pewter if that’s what that rough Ryder shield is made of.

That GEC’s scales are somewhere between beef jerky and a oozy scab. Maybe a touch of strawberry jam.

Yup. I don’t know if comparison is confrontational enough a word for UA-cam algorithms
