LOVED Rare Earth when I was a teenager. You would LOVE "I Just Want to Celebrate" - which was their top hit - another really funky song. "Big Brother" is awesome as well!
I saw this band live in 1975. The lead singer played a stand up, stand-alone snare for this tune. The percussion section was large. When they played "Big Brother" it blew me away because the lead in was about twice as long as the studio version. I attended a TON of live concerts in the 70s. Many of the big names in their prime. For some reason, the Rare Earth concert just sticks with me as one of the best I have seen. A band called "Stories" opened for them and they were quite good as well. Who have I seen live in their prime (70s and 80s)? I know I couldn't ever recall them all, but off the top of my head, Chuck Berry Aerosmith Van Halen ZZ Top Judas Priest UFO Ted Nugent Steve Miller Def Leppard Pat Benatar Black Oak Arkansas Ringo Starr Rare Earth The James Gang The Cars The Doobie Brothers Journey Jethro Tull Nick Gilder Jerry Reed Bill Withers Kiss Blue Oyster Cult Neil Young The Grateful Dead Reo Speedwagon The Marshall Tucker Band Joe Satriani REO Speedwagon Bob Dylan Probably forgot quite a few as well. I think "The Cars" was the most disappointing concert. Their studio albums were so heavily engineered that it was difficult to reproduce live. The Grateful Dead was like a time machine and I'm talking about the crowd. If you never went to Woodstock, then the closest you could ever get was going to a Dead concert. A lot of really high people wearing tie-dye shirts. Black Oak Arkansas was really entertaining, or more accurately, the front man, Jim Dandy, puts on quite a show. He busted up his washboard and threw it into the crowd. I'm looking at a piece of it sitting on a shelf as I type this. The most polished performer was Chuck Berry who is a stand-up comedian, a storyteller, and a guitar player extraordinaire. No fuzz, no distortion, no wah wah. Every note crystal clear and daring you to find a mistake. Back when there was no such thing as dudes wearing T-shirts labeled SECURITY and you could rest your elbows on the stage. Chuck Berry came on stage and a dude beside me turned his pipe around pointing at it. Chuck Berry approached, leaned over (close enough where I could touch him if I wanted to) and the dude blew a cannabis "supercharge" directly into Chuck Berry's lungs. Berry held the smoke all the way back to the microphone before blowing it out. Smiled my direction and started in with the guitar. The crowd ate it up. It was incredible to behold. Unforgettable experience. Also remember that every club was playing live rock featuring seasoned professionals that traveled from city to city. They were really, really good and you could go from club to club and never be disappointed. Every weekend. Countless awesome bands that never made it big. Every block in my town had a garage band. Every kid had a guitar. It is simple numbers. The more that rock is part of youth culture, the larger the pool of musical talent. The cream of it all rises to the top.
A very underrated band.I'm glad you guys got to em. What would be cool is a show that talks about your friends and family that have discovered Rock though your show. ROCK ON GUYS
The lead singer was also the drummer. That was a magical, musical time to be alive. Rare earth was always blaring on someone's stereo as you walked by their porch. War was another group that was always front and center in those golden daze of funked up music.
I knew you would love this. Rare Earth was my go-to group in the 70's. They did a fantastic cover of the Temptations "Get Ready" that is something else. Also, "Big John Is My Name" "Ma" and many more in this rabbit hole! Thanks for the joy!
So, l have a brother who's 5 yrs older than me and he listened to nothing but Motown but he came across this band and introduced them to me, he knew that's the kind of music l liked, glad you liked it too🤟🥰
I was wondering if you would ever get a rare earth. I check you guys every day because it’s like old home week it reminds me of stuff I’ve listened to over the last 50 years. You guys are in for a real treat with them.
You see why they were the first white band signed by Motown! I was starting high school music was expanding as was the world around me! This group had some bangers! Chiguy
Rare Earth was a band formed in the 1960s and was signed by Motown records. The leader was basically Peter Rivera, their lead singer and drummer. They became known as a jam band in concert with long renditions of their hits. The album Rare Earth In Concert is their best example. One of my best friends growing up had an older sister who owned a yellow VW bug and he would borrow it and we would cruise around town and it’s outskirts jamming to and 8-track copy. Thank you for bringing back wonderful memories. Other songs “I just want to celebrate”, “ Get Ready”, “Big Brother”. They were a great band to groove with and celebrate life and youth.
I saw these dudes at a crappy bar in Ft. Smith , Arkansas in the 80s. They would blow the power fuses about every 30 minutes, but kept on playin for hours. They kicked some ass that night. Very memorable.
wow great song, never heard it before. Reminds me of some Free songs for some reason, probably about same vintage, super soulful singing, simple but great groove.
As soon as the groove started, I thought this would make you think of your pops. I need to take a deeper dive into this band. Always loved them but only know a few.
Motown was so enamored with them the gave them tgeir own label.Rare Earth records. The album version of The Teptations I know Im Losing You will blow you away. The cover a lot of Motown..Ray Charles What'd I Say is another deep cut gem
I can’t remember ever hearing that song by Rare Earth. Funky/R&B and the flute was a great touch. These brothas were from Detroit and signed by Motown, the first successful all white band to do so. Thanks guys. 🔥
Boy you two brought one outta the closet for me. I haven't heard this forever. Great percussion, and flute. I've said it before, I miss my 70's ! The instrumentation is always wonderful. Thanks guys!
If you're just getting into this band you're in for a treat. You're gonna really love em. I like they're cover of Smiling Faces. Am I Losing is a good one too.
Motown signed Rare Earth in 1969. They had hits with the covers of The Temptations songs "Get Ready" and "I Know I'm Losing You". Another big hit was "I Just Want to Celebrate". When you listen to "Get Ready" make sure it's the album version 21.5 minutes long. I believe this song "Born to Wander" was an original Rare Earth composition with the drummer on lead vocals.
Rare Earth is a Rock band from Motown that has a Rock Motown sound. they also did "I Just Want To Celebrate" and "Get Ready" which was a cove song of the Temptations. Very successful Rock band. Continuing that Blue-eyed Soul" music genre.
Great reaction La & Chi! I’ve always heard of Rare Earth and heard a couple of their songs, but as I listened along with I realized I’ve never really listened to Rare Earth. I’m downloading now and gonna listen to each album start to finish like I usually do/have done just never with Rare Earth. Thanks and great pick/suggestion!
I was nine or 10 years old and shared a room with my three brothers. My older brother played rare earth live twin album set , it looked like it was a backpack , a lot. He also played a lot of the James gang & Grand Funk And I’ve been hooked sense. You guys are great.
At this time Rare Earth was one of the funkiest bands and I loved they`re groove. My first and long time favorite album and song was "MA" -> what a long (about 17 minutes) and groovy song. All the best @all from HH (germany)
I think they were the first, although they might have been the second white band signed to Motown records. The lead singer is also their drummer and he's really good at both.
They were the only white band signed to Motown They had huge hits with temptations songs (I'm losing you.get ready)and their original songs like this one were crazy good
This maybe the 2nd "45" single I bought when I was 10 years old. The B side "Here Comes the Night" was even better IMHO. Rockin' out on a farm in Ohio on my Close-n-Play.
I absolutely loved their long version of "I Know I'm Losing You". And "I Just Want to Celebrate" was an anthem and got played on commercials a few years later--along with Three Dog Night's "Celebrate", which yall should also take a look at.
Not only do I enjoy watching your dynamic duo's reactions to songs I know and love.. it's a bonus when you two introduce me to songs/artists I have never heard. Kudos Have a great holiday weekend gentlemen!
This is such a great song by a fantastic band. Definitely dig down into their catalog. I know I’m losing you and I just wanna celebrate are my two favorite rare earth songs. Have a great weekend!
Yet another great band from DETROIT. First white band signed to Motown Records I believe. Pretty sure the lead singer is the DRUMMER once again... You boys are cookin' with chicken fat NOW!!
Hey big brother the 447 studio version is funky, understand soul train tried 2 book them, actually i couldn't believe what happened last night is a song that puts them in a nutshell, rock, jazz and funk
A very good band from the 70s that is still underrated, they have some great songs. Try I'm Losing You, a tremendous cover. Also their most played song, Get Ready is a single version of the epic that took up a whole side of that record and is also worth a reaction. Nice choice, Enjpy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
I saw them at the Motown Review on Christmas Day, in Detroit in 1970. (I think) They rocked it out.
Their song, "I'm Losing You" was a HUGE hit.
a good one too..long version and their best eva the 21:30 version of get ready.

I had the pleasure of seeing them live at a club in Okc, Ok. ❤
I love it! Rare Earth was my first live concert. 16 years old at the time. Now 66 and still listen to the classics.
I just want to celebrate live
Their big song is I Just Want to Celebrate. It's really an iconic song.
Yes, More please!
The lead singer was also the drummer. That was a magical, musical time to be alive. Rare earth was always blaring on someone's stereo as you walked by their porch. War was another group that was always front and center in those golden daze of funked up music.
I know they will like War. One of my favorite bands.
Oooooooh man. My favourite song by them. Awesome.
Part of my collection of 45s, as a teen. A sweet jam.
I Just Want to Celebrate.
You'll love it.
I knew you would love this. Rare Earth was my go-to group in the 70's. They did a fantastic cover of the Temptations "Get Ready" that is something else. Also, "Big John Is My Name" "Ma" and many more in this rabbit hole! Thanks for the joy!

not many people know this song....nice find.

You have to do their cover . I just want to celebrate. Hopefully LIVE.
Well just watched Peter Rivera perform live last year on Huckabee's Jukebox. His voice is just as powerful and on his timing is impeccable.
First white band Motown signed that had HITS ! Thanks for playing. They have a few more as well
Their other great ones... I Just Want to Celebrate, Hey Big Brother, I'm Losing You, and an awesome live version of Get Ready
I was always surprised they didn’t last longer.
Proud to say that's my friend, Peter Rivera (Hoorelbeke) on lead vocals and drums.
Big John! (Bring on the funk!)
I was nine or 10 years old and shared a room with my three brothers. My older brother played rare earth live twin album set , it looked like it was a backpack , a lot. He also played a lot of the James gang & Grand Funk And I’ve been hooked sense. You guys are great.
Detroit Band signed to Motown. Motowns first signing of an all white band. Great band.
Got to do the live versions of all their big hits these guys are from Detroit and recorded on Motown records.
I was 13 years old in 1972 when I became a fan of Rare Earth. They are the only white group signed by Motown Records.

Bad ass, never heard this! 👍
I found a copy of this on 45, last week 😊
I'm 66 and I grew up with this among many other great songs. I love watching young people get it. Pretty cool.
At this time Rare Earth was one of the funkiest bands and I loved they`re groove. My first and long time favorite album and song was "MA" -> what a long (about 17 minutes) and groovy song. All the best @all from HH (germany)

Ahhh yeah… I can see y’all bopping in the garage with pops to this one
First rock band signed to Motown? The drummer had that voice
This maybe the 2nd "45" single I bought when I was 10 years old. The B side "Here Comes the Night" was even better IMHO. Rockin' out on a farm in Ohio on my Close-n-Play.
Rare Earth-one of those bands that can do no wrong
The lead singer is also the drummer
Another Detroit/ Motown Special. The Drummer sings
The lead singer is the drummer! I saw them at California Jam, April 1974….great 70s band!
I absolutely loved their long version of "I Know I'm Losing You". And "I Just Want to Celebrate" was an anthem and got played on commercials a few years later--along with Three Dog Night's "Celebrate", which yall should also take a look at.
Singing drummers...what a feel looks like you guys feel the way I've always felt listening to this one!
This is ne of the first songs and bands I remember hearing. I was nine years old when this came out.😵💫😮😯
1970 is my favorite year for music. The variety was mindblowing. Dig up a list of the top one hundred songs for that year.
Two bands that frequented my home town in the early/mid 70's were Rare Earth and Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes. I was always there. Great memories.
Rare Earth was one of the few white bands that signed with Motown. You had to bring the soul and funk to be a Motown - They Did.
Player “Baby Come Back” for some blue-eyed soul / yacht rock.
Good choice. I was young back then. Didn't have their records but enjoyed their singles on the AM radio.
Not only do I enjoy watching your dynamic duo's reactions to songs I know and love.. it's a bonus when you two introduce me to songs/artists I have never heard. Kudos
Have a great holiday weekend gentlemen!
Thank you!! You have a great holiday weekend as well!!
I just want to celebrate, hey big brother, losing you, get ready
"Get Ready!!!" Huge Hit! But my favorite was their rendition of "Tobacco Road"
This is such a great song by a fantastic band. Definitely dig down into their catalog. I know I’m losing you and I just wanna celebrate are my two favorite rare earth songs. Have a great weekend!
MICHIGAN R&R !!!!!! The Only White R&R Band Signed to MOTOWN Records !!!! MOTOWN Forever
Yet another great band from DETROIT. First white band signed to Motown Records I believe. Pretty sure the lead singer is the DRUMMER once again...
You boys are cookin' with chicken fat NOW!!

"I know I’m losing you" is one of their best. Do the long version.
Hey guys I know how much you like "Rare Earth" - you go to get back to them and listen to "Hey Big Brother." :)

They were the first "white" band signed by Motown...
Rare Earth, "I Just Want to Celebrate." Please.
