They were one of the most popular and biggest touring bands in America throughout the 70s. YES, they absolutely should be in the RRHoF. It's a musical crime that they're not.
six platinum and seven gold-certified albums between their recording debut in 1969 and their first disbandment in 1976. That is how crooked the HOF must be. Bill Withers and Joan Jett? HOW do they get in and not these boys!
The Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame is a farce. They have omitted all great bands singer and of the Rock n’ Roll era. They have inducted artist that could’ve waited their turn and induct great bands and artist. I still love your channel. Keep it going!
They opened for Zeppelin and they were so good Zeppelin did not have them open for them again. Zeppelin was playing and the crowd wanted more “G F R”. Personally my favorite band. First album to ever buy “Were An American Band”. Still have it and still listen to it, so many good songs.
Oh yeah! I had this album when it was released in the 70s... Man this brother here, "that's me and my homies was lost for words... A teenager in B'ham Al... Just jamming to these guy's... All of them!💯💯💯💯. I now live in their hometown of, "Flint MI"
Mark Farner.... Bass guitar (early), drums (Black Brass song), keyboards (before Craig Frost joined), Lead Guitar, Incredible Lead vocals and writer of 90% of the GFR material. One of the most talented front men to ever walk onto a stage in the history of music. What a talent and still touring to this day...
I saw the live back in 70s and 90s. In the seventies I believe they were almost or if not the biggest rock band in the world. And loudest very powerful band😊 they should be in the Rock and roll Hall of Fame!!
They added the full time keyboard player after a few albums. Before that, Mark Farner, the guitar player would play keyboards on some songs. Sometimes, with his guitar around his neck so he could switch back to guitar. High energy!
These guys started out with just 3 of them and added Craig Frost on organ a few years later. Killer live band. "Foot Stompin' Music", "Shining On", and "Rock and Roll Soul" from this same concert are killer as well. "Footstompin' Music" is one of my favorite concert opening tracks ever. If that song don't put you in the mood for a fun concert I don't know what will.
Great reaction! One of my top three favorite rock bands when I was in high school, along with Santana and CCR. As mentioned by others in the comments below, not many great drummers who could sing well while drumming. A relatively new artist who fits the bill to me is Paulina (Pau) Villarreal of "The Warning", a trio of sisters from Mexico who play real rock and roll. Check them out with Pau on lead vocals on their original songs "Dust to Dust" (in English) Live at Lunario from 2018 or "Narcisista" (in Spanish). live from Foro DiDi in 2019. Great vocals and great drumming by Pau on these two. Thanks guys! Keep the great reaction videos coming!
These guys are so fabulous and underrated! And cudos on finding one I haven't heard before! Love it !!! I can say y'all are definitely my favorite reactors! Keep up the great work ❤️
I bought the E Pluribus Funk album back in the 70's. Many good songs on it such as, "Footstomp'in Music", "People, Let's Stop the War", "Loneliness", "I Come Tumblin", "Upsetter", "No Lies", "Save the Land", "I'm Your Captain".
Nice one!!! They added Craig the keyboardist, who ended up WITH Bob Seger haha......Man, Don Brewer is a GREAT singer huh! When I bought this record back in the late 70's I literally played it everyday for like 2 months haha...never got old. Check out "Railroad"
They started out as a three man band and that is what you saw on Inside Looking Out. He was not just off camera, he wasn't there. They were that way for several years...Craig Frost is the organist...he joined the band after a few years of GFR being a 3 man power band. He then went on to play with the Bob Seger band for many years. He was excellent!
Glad you’re doing the live version. One of my favorite GFR songs. Awesome organ solo and Mel is always hot on the bass. Saw these guys live in the 90’s on a reunion tour. Couldn’t believe how tight they were. Great show.
It cracks me up how many songs there were in the late 60s early 70s that used euphemisms to describe coping with jungle fever lol Brown sugar, black, licorice, black, coffee, brown eyed, girl, cinnamon girl … These white boys were trying to cope with their attraction black girls lol
They sold more albums than anyone from 1970 to 1975. They are my favorite American rock band ever. I grew up as teenager in the early 70's and they were the shit.
Greetings from Texas, y’all. These guys were huge in the 70s. For a true banger, check out Footstompin Music. A great example of how important the organ was to the music of that era.
"Heartbreaker" from that same concert is the roof-raiser. Don't get too enamored with the live sets, gents---you ain't heard dirty white boy garage band funk 'til you spin the Closer to Home LP start to finish.
Grand Funk added keyboardist Craig Frost in 1972, and he had been with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. Prior to that, Mark Farner handled the keyboards also.
This was after the original three piece band added a fourth member to play the organ. The drummer Don Brewer and the bassist Mel Schacher still tour under the name Grand Funk with the addition of two different members. I saw them a few years ago and it is my opinion they should have stopped when Mark Farner left the band. I saw the original three piece band four times in the early 70's and nothing matched that.
This really sounded like The Tubes. Never seen this video before. Couple of great tunes from HEART you need to check out. Female Rock Vocalist Ann + Nancy Wilson really know how to rock. HARD ROCK...! Please do the studio versions. The Women in your life will like them too. Try "Sing-Child" also try "White Lightning + Wine" These 2 songs are off-the-hook. The whole album Steamboat Anne is full of great tunes.
They started out with 3 members, then had 4 members. They have 13 gold and 10 platinum records, with more then25 million copies sold worldwide. Most of the sells coming in the 60's 70's,and 80's
My gosh, this is an incredible performance. Brewer's vocals are on a different level here...his drumming ain't to shabby either! Mel on bass keeps this whole thing together.
They started as a 3 piece and then added Frost, the keyboardist, in 73 on a full time basis. They sounded very different as a 3 piece, I loved both though.
"Paranoid", "Heartbreaker", "I'm Your Captain". And "I Come Tumblin' " may the best jam song of all time! Around 1972, they added keyboardist Craig Frost (who had played with them prior to them being Grand Funk) between the E Pluribus Funk and Phoenix albums. Their sound changed from early 70s to late 70s. Please try the earlier stuff first to get a better feel for the group.
Also KISS farewell tour is wrapping up in the states at the end of the year! I’m def going when they’re hit Seattle in Nov. yall should rly try to go theyre one of a kind and still bring it plus they still look and act hella young so who knows maybe they’ll b back but I’m not taking the chance
They were 3 man on the first song. They were three man starting out their carreer and the first few years. They went to 4 man. BUT WERE THEIR ABSOLUTE Best (to me anyway) when they were 3
The audio sounds like the studio lp. So, anyhow, from this concert you have to watch Brewer kill the drums on the solo. Can't reveal the name of the song. Those who know.......know what it is.
A mate once played a Grand Funk album when I was visiting...... was one of the best “rock” albums I ever heard. Their version of Instant Karma was as good as it gets..... light years better than anything the Beatles ever did in rock....... but I have never been able to find that record or sound again.
GFR - Sins A Good Man's Brother and Gimme Shelter. Gimme Shelter is a rendition of The Rolling Stones song but GFR smooooooookes it. More proof that anybody can do a Rolling Stones song better than The Rolling Stones.
It’s a disgrace that GRAND FUNK RAILROAD IS NOT IN THE Rock & Roll Hall of fame. These guys are the blue print 🤘
The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame is a joke.
They definitely have a place in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
They were one of the most popular and biggest touring bands in America throughout the 70s. YES, they absolutely should be in the RRHoF. It's a musical crime that they're not.
best bands are not in that stupid institution....
six platinum and seven gold-certified albums between their recording debut in 1969 and their first disbandment in 1976.
Keep it going!
the first time you listened to them they were a 3 piece band them in 1971 they added Craig Frost he also played with Bob Segar's band
They opened for Zeppelin and they were so good Zeppelin did not have them open for them again. Zeppelin was playing and the crowd wanted more “G F R”. Personally my favorite band. First album to ever buy “Were An American Band”. Still have it and still listen to it, so many good songs.

These are some really talented musicians who were totally underrated! Played this album lots back then, and it still sounds great!!!
Back when talent energy and testosterone made legendary music. Grand Funk Railroad pumped out some huge sound from three dudes.
When only the talent mattered!!
I saw the live back in 70s and 90s. In the seventies I believe they were almost or if not the biggest rock band in the world. And loudest very powerful band😊 they should be in the Rock and roll Hall of Fame!!
Grand Funk Railroad Heartbreaker Live and Mean Mistreater Live are two Bad A$$ songs again thanks for this
They added the full time keyboard player after a few albums. Before that, Mark Farner, the guitar player would play keyboards on some songs. Sometimes, with his guitar around his neck so he could switch back to guitar. High energy!
These guys started out with just 3 of them and added Craig Frost on organ a few years later. Killer live band. If that song don't put you in the mood for a fun concert I don't know what will.
Listen to I Can Feel Him in the Morning another great song
GFR SOLD OUT SHEA STADIUM FASTER THAN THE BEATLES DID!
Think about that for a minute.
I would highly recommend that you give Mean Mistreater off the closer to home album a listen.✌️
AND react to Aimless Lady"!
Into the Sun live 1970🔥🔥🔥
Fire...thank you guys !!! The same show has Heartbreaker which you would love for sure !!!
One of my favorites back in the 70's. We're an American Band!
This was always my second favorite song by GFR, behind Closer to Home.
Todd Rundgen produced the lp
I bought the E Pluribus Funk album back in the 70's. Many good songs on it such as, "Footstomp'in Music", "People, Let's Stop the War", "Loneliness", "I Come Tumblin", "Upsetter", "No Lies", "Save the Land", "I'm Your Captain".
Mark Farner at 75 still touring and killing it on guitar and vocals amazing!
Nice one!!! They added Craig the keyboardist, who ended up WITH Bob Seger haha......Man, Don Brewer is a GREAT singer huh! When I bought this record back in the late 70's I literally played it everyday for like 2 months haha...never got old. Check out "Railroad"
I’m not really into the bass guitar but this player is exceptional. I mean I can even hear his greatness.
Highly recommend their song Heartbreaker. Live version is fantastic. Keep the GFR coming. You will not be sorry. 🔥
Got to be one of my favorite Grand Funk songs, love the bass playing
They a great live. There showman. They should have been in the hall Long ago.
Great Great GREAT Band.
Glad you’re doing the live version. One of my favorite GFR songs. Awesome organ solo and Mel is always hot on the bass. Saw these guys live in the 90’s on a reunion tour. Couldn’t believe how tight they were. Great show.
Early 70's...this band was different
I was a mere child listening to my old brothers albums ... changed my world
It cracks me up how many songs there were in the late 60s early 70s that used euphemisms to describe coping with jungle fever lol
Brown sugar, black, licorice, black, coffee, brown eyed, girl, cinnamon girl …
These white boys were trying to cope with their attraction black girls lol
Craig Frost is the new addition on keyboards and he is also absolutely amazing!
❤ seeing them in concert was a real treat they put on an awesome show as you can see❤❤
Man never realized they were THIS good
They sold more albums than anyone from 1970 to 1975. They are my favorite American rock band ever. I grew up as teenager in the early 70's and they were the shit.
Absolutely. Ten or more Platinum albums not counting Gold.
Wow, you guys found one of their songs that I never knew. Good job.
Greetings from Texas, y’all. These guys were huge in the 70s. For a true banger, check out Footstompin Music. A great example of how important the organ was to the music of that era.
You guys should check out the live version of ROCK AND ROLL SOUL by Grand Funk. same concert
Love the reactions! Quick fun fact. The keyboard player for Grand Funk (Craig Frost) also played with Bob Seger.
It's a Michigander thang!!! LOL
Really like your videos. Don't always agree with you, but I certainly appreciate hearing honest opinions. Keep up the good work.
"Heartbreaker" from that same concert is the roof-raiser.
Don't get too enamored with the live sets, gents---you ain't heard dirty white boy garage band funk 'til you spin the Closer to Home LP start to finish.
Yeeeaaaahhhh baby that's what I'm talking about.
I saw GFR 3 times at Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio. Mid 70's. Great live band.
Grand Funk added keyboardist Craig Frost in 1972, and he had been with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. Prior to that, Mark Farner handled the keyboards also.
Please try Mean Mistreater. It's a bit more chill but still a really great song. Please and Thank you
Love it!
One of my Fav GF tunes, I had the live "Caught In The Act" album when it came out. how do you not start noddin your head when ya hear this badass tune
Mark Farner. the lead guitar and singer was still doing gigs (around here it was multi bands, open air festivals) before Covid.
You guys are on fire 🔥 this morning!
They are my NUMBER 1
This was after the original three piece band added a fourth member to play the organ. The drummer Don Brewer and the bassist Mel Schacher still tour under the name Grand Funk with the addition of two different members. I saw them a few years ago and it is my opinion they should have stopped when Mark Farner left the band. I saw the original three piece band four times in the early 70's and nothing matched that.
It was Platinum Albums. Like 10 of them!
My first concert! Still love them ❤
It’s a damn shame they’re not in the Rock n Roll HOF
I have never seen this - WOW!!!
Don Brewer, the drummer, also sings lead on "We're An American Band"
They started out with 3 members, then had 4 members. They have 13 gold and 10 platinum records, with more then25 million copies sold worldwide. Most of the sells coming in the 60's 70's,and 80's
One of my older brothers favorite bands. He would play Locomotion for me. ✌️
Craig Frost on keyboard, played as a backup but then finally joined the band.
They started as a 3 man band at first. They added Craig Frost to the band with his keyboard starting with the album "Caught in the Act ".
im going to see Mark Farner's all star Band on May the 12th in Wyandotte Michigan he is the lead singer with the long hair
Great Rock N Roll. Hall Of Fame Please !!!!!!!!
I recommend listening to the live version of "Black Licorice" and, the song it transitions into "The Railroad," from GFR's "Caught In The Act" Album.
Great song covered by alot of 70s bands
👴 Way back in high school we were rocking this on the 8 track player with the windows down cruising! 🚀
Another one of the great 70's bands.
They started out as a power trio and added Craig Frost on keys later on..
STRAIGHT FIRE!!!
Fantastic live band rivals zHendricks for excitement!
They added the organist later; they started as 3 man band. This is a deep cut off the We're an American Band album.
What a great band, best bass sound and a great heavy foot.
One of my all-time GFR tune.
My gosh, this is an incredible performance. Brewer's vocals are on a different level here...his drumming ain't to shabby either! Mel on bass keeps this whole thing together.
Another nice reaction guys!
They are still touring, a friend of mine and his buddy had tickets and went and saw them a few months ago.
3 man band!! Keyboards added for live. Saw them 15 years ago, blew the roof off the Beacon in NYC
Craig Frost was an official member before We're an American Band and played on the albums until they disbanded.
WOW WOW WOW
Hell yeah. That's the way a good ol' Fender bass should sound. This whole thing is ridiculous. Don Brewer's a bad man.
They started out three man band for years, then after the first couple of albums, they added the organ (Craig Frost)
They were a 3 piece band for most of there careers 😊
You guys got me. I'm hooked. Have you done Closer to Home yet? I think y'all will dig THAT
They started as a 3 piece and then added Frost, the keyboardist, in 73 on a full time basis. They sounded very different as a 3 piece, I loved both though.
Didnt realise that my head are shakin in tandem with these djs😂
"Paranoid", "Heartbreaker", "I'm Your Captain". And "I Come Tumblin' " may the best jam song of all time! Around 1972, they added keyboardist Craig Frost (who had played with them prior to them being Grand Funk) between the E Pluribus Funk and Phoenix albums. Their sound changed from early 70s to late 70s. Please try the earlier stuff first to get a better feel for the group.
3 man band. Mark Farner plays the keyboards. Adds 4th man for live performances.
Actually Craig Frost was added as an official member for a few albums. That’s him on keys in this video. He later went on to play with Bob Seger.
They have so many absolute Jems especially early stuff try “inside looking out”
Also KISS farewell tour is wrapping up in the states at the end of the year! I’m def going when they’re hit Seattle in Nov. yall should rly try to go theyre one of a kind and still bring it plus they still look and act hella young so who knows maybe they’ll b back but I’m not taking the chance
Eddie Van Halen was at this LA show and said, thats what I want to be.
THANK YOU now if you can give a listen to Johnny Winter and Edgar Winter Tobacco Road Live video they will BLOW you AWAY thanks again for this one
A mate once played a Grand Funk album when I was visiting...... was one of the best “rock” albums I ever heard.
Their version of Instant Karma was as good as it gets..... light years better than anything the Beatles ever did in rock....... but I have never been able to find that record or sound again.
I believe you meant Inside Looking Out by The Animals.
I love this song 🤘
GFR - Sins A Good Man's Brother and Gimme Shelter. Gimme Shelter is a rendition of The Rolling Stones song but GFR smooooooookes it. More proof that anybody can do a Rolling Stones song better than The Rolling Stones.
YES! Sins a Good Man's Brother! Killer, killer track.
