Cracking episode. I love how fair you are Pete, paying for JJ even though he was free. You showing your emotional vulnerability to us as an audience keeps us coming back. You’re a great genuine bloke 👍🏼
Talk about being raised by good hard working people!
The episodes where he's with his father say it all!!
I love seeing other good people love this channel as much as my family does!
You gave John a good, GOOD life, as you do all your animals. You did right by him, from his first day living on your farm until his last. You have every right to feel really, really good about that. Thank you.
Pete and Hillarie(sp), you speak kindly to all your beasts. You touch them with friendly hands, always. You work to keep them safe from predators and all illness. And that is why they only have one bad day in their lives. Would that people treated one another in such ways.
Congrats on the new boar. He looks to be a beast. Should have lots of little piglets from that guy. Nice job on discussing the passing of your previous boar. You look after your animals as best you can and ending suffering is one part of that care.
Thanks Colette.
As you talked about the other day, Pete, that is part of animal farming and you treat and care for your animals very well, even when the end comes to their productive life. R.I.P. John the boar.
@@JustaFewAcresFarm it’s always hard to lose a pet/ animal….you try not to get too attached but you do. You did exactly what was right for him…not you. You thought of him….you did good.
I agree with what has been said. I watched an episode of The Bronx Zoo last year. When it comes time are we as owners doing what our heart wants, or what's best for the animal. Really helped me make decision for my Buddy. I had done the best I could to provide him a good home for 20 years. It was now time for him to move on. Love the videos.
Sorry about John......what the name of the new boar.
Sean and Jenny are good people!! Thanks Sean for your service to our country!!🇺🇸
And they still get to watch him at A Few Acres Farm! Win Win Win.
Semper Fi Sean

Thank you, Cindy. I am proud to have served and proud that JJ was able to go to such an amazing family farm.
@@seanmaguire4848 You are much welcome!!!
Yes, thank you for your service!
Your decision to pay for the boar is an excellent lesson in ethics for young people, respecting everyone's work.
My respect goes to you!
Nice work, on both ends of the transaction, small farmers sticking together & helping each other out! You did the right thing for John, even though it was difficult - he obviously wasn't going to last much longer, and there is no sense in making him suffer just to save yourself the heartache of doing what needed to be done. There are those who think letting an animal live to the end of their life is the right thing to do, regardless of their health, but taking responsibility means doing what is truly best for the animal rather than what makes the person feel good about themselves. Sean, thank you for our freedoms!!! Forty years ago I often went to air shows, and the Harrier was my favorite.
I'm excited to see the new pig facility when you guys build it out.
Rest in peace John
Is there any grants for a pig farm build?
@@johncourtneidge you must not know Pete very well!
I like how your always thinking and nice to have friends like Schaun. How nice to give something to them for the boar even though he was offered for free!
Missed you at the farmers market yesterday. Now we know why you weren’t there. 😊 nice looking boar!
Looking forward to seeing the new piglets Red and brownie produce with this boar. Will be awesome to have 2 boys to use and bring in some good genetics. Glad the transfer went as smoothly as it can have gone. Never a good day to get bit by a boar. You did good by john. He had such a good life with you and it was just time. Never fun getting old. He will be missed
I seldom comment, but have enjoyed your videos for MANY years. Part of being responsible for any animal, is the HUGE responsibility of doing the "right thing" for each animal. A large part of that responsibility is not only knowing what the humane thing to do for them, but ACTING UPON that knowledge and following through with that action in a timely manner. I applaud you and your wife on your courage and your compassion. The courage in speaking your mind in front of a camera and the world...and your compassion in doing the right thing for John. Your videos are very uplifting and full of valuable information.
RIP Big John. You gave him many good years on the farm. Glad you found a new boar. The cows are looking good with their winter coats.
You guys show empathy for your farm animals. I guess it's like a lot of things in life, you move on and do what got to be done. It is what it is.
It looks like your plan is working well. There are a lot of good people out there like the couple that offered to give you that boar. I am glad, but not surprised, that you insisted on paying for him. That speaks volumes to your character. A great lesson for many to learn from and one of the reasons why we are all so blessed to be citizens of the United States! Keep up the good work and please give our best regards to “the muscle” that supervised the unloading!! You all make a great team!!😊
Thank you for taking us along on the ride to pick up the new boar. 🐗 The scenery was beautiful, landscape & all the family farms. Sad to hear about loosing John; I could tell how it touched you. You're good people & treat your animals well. RIP John.
Pete, you and Hilary really spoke to my heart with this video. Within this offering from you, you gave us an intimate exposure to the reality of living a good life. Yes, life is good. And, the truth must be faced, embraced, accepted and acted upon. Wanting someone else to take responsibility is darkness itself. I felt your discomfort for having to put John down. You are a good man, Pete. Hilary, a good woman. I am glad to be a subscriber. xo Claire
When we had pigs, I tried to load a boar about the same way you did, only by myself. He ran over me a couple of times before I got him in. But as another farmer once said if your not having struggles your not farming! Always good memories you guys bring back.
As someone who studied engineering w/ Architects at U of Detroit, I'm a functionalist at heart, but can appreciate design.
I'm anxious to see what an Architect turned functionalist farmer will design with your new hog pen.
I think your business expansion with selling feeders will push your interaction with more small farmers, and I suspect you will enjoy that the most about it.
I feel for you guys, John was a part of your world for a long time. You made a good, humane decision and showed you are a good steward of your farm. That is why I enjoy your channel so much. I grew up on a similar farm, just a little bigger. My Dad was a school principle and we farmed 160 acres. you two were a lot alike, think and then do. It was a great way to grow up, I miss it.
Keep up the good work!
It’s all part of life AS YOU BOTH KNOW, Pete an Hillary thanks for taking us all along on the ride thu the beautiful country side an meeting the nice couple. And meeting your daughter also!
JJ gave us lots of piglets. Jennie and I decided to keep 6 of his offspring gilts for breeding purposes so it was time for him to move somewhere that he can continue doing what he does best.
Welcome to UA-cam! Maybe you can follow Pete's model he's made on here and have a successful channel.
Collaborations with a successful channel is a great start!
Do you have a channel?
Well done mate!
You keep up the good work. It'd rewarding, and there are people around the world that now want you to succeed. (I'm in Aus, and I'm one. I'm also a small farmer too...)
All the best, and always keep learning. 😊
We all see how much putting down an animal weighs on your heart. I'm so sorry for your loss and thank you for giving us the opportunity to see how a family farm operates.
Hi Pete and Hillary. I think the world could use more of that small family farm feeling .
God I got tears in my eyes RIP John the boar . I been watching for a long time
Thankful for John and all the good years and lovely piglets! Jay-jay is a fine fellow, what a great addition to your farm family!! 💕
RIP John. You did right by him, you gave him a wonderful life, and you did the hardest yet kindest thing for him when he needed you most, that's what counts. He would thank you if he could. Everyone will miss him but life keeps moving, two wonderful new fellas to carry on the good work. Thank you for sharing!
I’m glad you’ve got a new boar, but….RIP John. He lived an amazing life on the farm.
I’m anxious to see the new design for the pig “condo”. Your architectural design will be functional for moving ,cleaning pig pens with minimal shoveling, and piglet nurseries. I wouldn’t be surprised that pen hasn’t already been to paper with possible options. Poor John, he lived a good life. Your videos always bring tears to my eyes thinking of my dearly departed Uncle Don’s dairy farm. 🐷💙
I think having grandpa contribute wisdom on the design of a new pig set up, will be a blessing.
as a 20-year-old brit soldier in Germany in the 70s, we used to lie on our backs and watch the Harrier from RAF Germany run rings around the Luftwaffe, viffing, and other NATO air forces, great to hear the Marines tell tales of them , many Thanks, Sean
Shame there isn't a British successor to the Harrier. Nice to hear your memories.
Can't wait to see the new piglets. I got teary eyed when you talk about John. You all are good people with good hearts.
God bless Sean and Jenny for being the definition of a good neighbor! That is the meaning of a real farming community. Neighbors looking out for and helping each other.
Love seeing the countryside, farms, and small towns on your drive! So picturesque.
I remember a time growing up on our farm my stepdad was trying to move and load a 600 lb boar. Who did NOT want to do anything Dad tried to get him to do! I just about got ran over by him trying to hold up a board! It was like a mini locomotive on the move!
R.I.P Big John, enjoy the green pastures where you are now.🐷🌄😇
It's always a sad day when you see your animals suffer, be it livestock, dog, cat...knowing that it would be selfish if you didn't relieve them of their suffering just because you know you will miss them. That's love. All of your animals have a great life with you. They get talked to and they talk back, like the Ms Patty, very opinionated. Any animal that comes to live on your farm, no matter the length of time, will have the best life.
I am sorry that you lost your boar, excited though that we get to continue watching for new little piglets . Thank you for another meaningful video.
You did great by John. He had a good and prosperous life, and in the end was given compassion and respect. Dust to dust. And I loved seeing Gray’s smile again! It’s fun living vicariously through your new ventures!
Good looking Boar!!! Slot of good looking piglets on the way. I am glad that Jon is not suffering anymore. He had a good life with ya’ll on the farm! ❤
Thank you Shaun!!! Nice meeting you. Pete, love that trailer.
Omg your daughter looks just like you ❤ thanks for taking me with you this morning 😀 so sorry for your loss 😢
Thank you Sean for your service to our country 🇺🇲 another farmer like you Pete that cares about his animals ! Good luck with JJ ! Looking forward to videos in the future on him and his litters!
You gave John a wonderful life. I know it's hard to speak of this subject to thousands of people, but it really sounds like John knew it was "time" and he let you know that. When we had to have our beloved dog down, he let us know it was time by not being able to right his hind feet after each step, by not eating, and lying by the back door crying. Even though the vet said putting him to sleep was the very best thing to do, I still asked to be given a sign that we had done the right thing. My hubby and I took some lunch to the beach and sat on our favourite log. We saw a pod of orcas swim by - something we'd never seen there. For us, that was the sign we'd asked for. I wonder if Sean and Jenny and your new boar were a sign for you. Just a thought. Yours in Gratitude
Thank you Sean for your service! You did a compassionate move with Old John! Isn't it a amazing how when a door shuts a window is opened!! A blessing and you got to meet good folk!
Sorry to hear about the loss of John, I think you did the best for him. Hate to see animals suffer like that. Thanks Sean for your service to our country. Looks like the new boar is a beast!!!
Sean Semper Fi to you my Marine Brother and your beautiful wife Jenny. Pete there aren't many people like you and Hilary in this world you do the right things as far as I am concerned you are a fair minded man. Thank you. Ed
45 years in the meat business both processing and sales. On the sales side I had a handful of country butcher/slaughter shops that routinely needed to move animals around. Loading and unloading pigs was alway a challenge with and without the proper equipment, stalls, fencing and help. Your effort to load J J brought back lots of fond memories. Thank you.
You could see him thinking 'no',... 'no',... 'oh bloody hell, must I?'! (the boar I mean, lol)
That is one nice boar im sure he will be good. John the boar outlived himself and when animals get old usually they are put to down as soon as possible. You extended his life way more than anyone else would have done. Spring is going to be fun with all the new piglets that will come.
Awe Pete and Hillary - so sorry to hear about John, but you're right, you gave him a good life and he was suffering. I wish you the best with your new boar and hope he and the "girls" get along fine and bring you nice piglets in the spring. Have a great week, we'll see you soon.
"Get up, let's go...". (Boar)"Grrr; Grrr"... That made me chuckle. I get it with John, I had to do likewise with a favorite cow of mine. She had milk fever. It's what you have to do sometimes.
Sorry for your lost Pete as Hilary says when there suffering it's time I've been through it myself congratulations on the new bore loving the videos educational aspect safe and well greetings from Australia
Farmers helping farmers.
Now there’s a tradition that goes back a long way.
As always good to see people helping people. Farming is never easy you get attached to your animals and when it is time for them to go it affects you. As you said Pete if you have livestock you also have dead stock. Thanks for taking us along!
Have a great day!
Great video, as usual Pete, and please thank that gentleman for his service!!!!!!! Also, John and a good life with you and the family and it's best that he not suffer anymore. God bless you guys and have a great Sunday.
Thanks Shawn for your service and that is a beautiful bore ,can't wait to see the new piglets
JJ is a nice looking boar! I'm glad that you were able to get him, he is a great addition to the farm! Also I'm really interested in the differences between the piglets JJ and Billy will produce with red and brownie :D
Congrats Pete on the new boar. I know it was tough but you did the right thing with John. Much success to you, the farm and your new endeavor.
Always a pleasure to see your family in the videos. And it shows the value of your videos with making the connection with Sean & Jenny and the commonality of the family farmers working with each other. Their generosity is certainly a benefit to you and your family's operations. And above that, they are good people. Thanks Sean for your service as a marine, and best to you and Jenny on continued success of your family farming operation.
John is at peace and in a better place. You gave him a good life and a quick death. It is a relief when their suffering is over. I had a cat that had renal failure and needed to be pts. If you went anywhere near him he screamed so you heard him in the next state. It was a relief when the vet put him to sleep.
Hello Pete and Hillary. Congratulations on the new bore, I hope he is lucky for you guys. So sorry to know that John is gone. But, as Hillary said you guys gave him a great life. Thank you.
Another heartwarming chapter‼️. Everything about this channel of wholesomeness leads to great stories to tell friends. Nice to see your daughter, your wife back in help mode and you and your new friends well deserved each others wholesome goodness. God Bless‼️
You and your family are great stewards of the land and animals I wish you all the best and can't wait to see what those little pigs are going to look like. I wish I were closer cause I would be a loyal customer. My neighbor is my farmer and we get together and enjoy watching your content...God bless
Well, you guys are off to a new adventure. Yes, ya can’t help but get quite fond of your animals but that is the life cycle for us all. You’ve given your animals a good life and kindness. Remember the expression
“What goes around comes around”
Thanks
Hi Pete. Hogs can be frustrating to deal with for sure. Nice to see the boar all loaded up. John had one bad day. Thanks for taking good care of your animals. Thanks for the video :)
He seems like a great boar! The ladies sure will love him. It was nice to see another family farm. I am really sorry for john but that's how things are in farms and thanks for your honesty. It is not cruel, it is the reality.! Best wishes to all of you all the way from Greece! Have a nice week.
I want to thank Pete and his family, Sean, Jenny, and everyone in the comments. Y'all make Just a Few Acres Farm the best place to visit!
My companion and I recently found your videos. We really enjoy watching them and we watch at least a handful each day. My companion will soon be 88. He spent his summers as a child, on a farm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He was a machinist by trade, and manufactured logging equipment, so he really enjoys your videos of the tractors also since he has also drove and fixed many of them. My experience living on a farm is minimal, but I also enjoy seeing your farm and all the wonderful animals. At age 70 now, and not able to walk much after a stroke, I watch from the comfort of our living room, without the mess and smell of actually being there! We also like hearing your philosophy. Thank you for being so interesting and willing to share your experiences with us.
Nice to see the new trailer in action. That boar had business class accommodations.
Pete & Hillary, are great farmers and it shows how dearly you care for your animals. I can feel your sorrow over the loss of John, but you made the hard decisions and the best thing for him. The very best to you, the family and your farm.
Thanks to Sean and Jenny and thanks to Sean for your service . Pete and Hillary you are good folks ,too . John is not in pain anymore . Gods plan .
Thank you Sean and Jenny for your service! I'm of the belief that when someone serves in the military, their family is serving too. What an awesome thing both of you did to rehome your boar rather than just have it butchered! You are definitely good people! Thanks again from a Marine mom whose son is now one of the twenty two.💝
Thanks for showing/discussing the emotional side of farming. How you treated John during his entire life of your farm, and for that matter all of the livestock under your care is an example of how it should be done. I'm really excited for you and your entire family for the genetic diversity t hat has been established on your farm with the addition of JJ and the young boar piglet. You'll have many wonderful litters in the future of your farm.
Congrats on the new boar...growing your pig concern sounds like progress to me. It was nice to see Grace today...she seems like a very nice young lady. I enjoyed this video very much. Thanks for sharing. 🐷🐖🐽
John was fortunate to have had such a good life on your farm. Thanks for sharing; you did the compassionate thing.
That is a very nice looking pig. It sounds like Sean picked a good one for you. Thank you Sean for your service
New Boar is amazing. what a block. sorry about your other. appreciate your conversations of late about your animals lives and you folks manage well
Congratulations on your new boar. I'm so glad to see Hillary become more of a part of your videos. She adds a lot to the farm-family feel of your videos.
Ah the circle of life. RIP Big John. You had a good life & served the farm extremely well. Welcome hame Brutus. May you have the same if not more success on Just a Few Acres Farm.
Congrats on the new home to J.J.! We know he's in good hands once again. His gentle demeanor and confirmation speak well for his care at Sean and Jenny's farm. It's always nice when there's a win/win solution for all parties concerned (even for Red/Brownie/J.J.). How old is J.J.?
It was good seeing some good daughter/dad time shared.
I'm one of the folks who understand your position, and thank you for sharing the news on John. Tough choices need to be made when an animal is suffering, especially when it's one who's been with you for so many years. He must've been 600+ lbs. in his day. He was a big boy.
Thanks Ratdog. The new boar is 3 years old.
Pete,!!Oh how I wish that the rest of America could have the same values as your family.. we absolutely love you guys my 18 month old granddaughter will grab the remote and hand it to me and start grunting. She wants to see your pigs. Your channel is about the only thing we let her watch in her young age. Thank you so much for sharing with us
So sorry to hear about John! You have so much compassion for your animals. He lived the best life possible considering where he could have been. ❣
Rest In Peace, John boy.
Welcome to your new home, JJ. You'll be well taken care of just like your predecessor
John lived way longer than he would have out in the wild. Clearly you cared about him and took care of him as best could be expected
I grew up on a 700 acre dairy farm in Jordanville NY, and we always had pigs chickens and a couple lamb. JJ looks beautiful and I think he’ll be a great fit for your operation. He’s a little freaked out now but he’s not unpredictable. Once he settles in he’ll be approachable and friendly as as your others are. He has beautiful lines and size too. I’ve been following and like where you’re going with this whole pig thing. Smart moves as always. Thanks for the great vids.
That was so nice of Mr. Sean for giving you the boar. And it was so nice of you to still pay him. A win win for everyone! Mr. Sean wanted to rehome his boar and you needed a new boar. Very sorry to hear about John, but I think you and Ms. Hillary done the right thing. He passed in a place he was familiar with and didn't suffer . You gave John a pigs dream of a life, and was good to him till the end. As it should be.
John had a good life because he had awesome caregivers. Pete and Hilary you guys are awesome. I ABSOLUTELY love this channel. Can’t wait to see the pig facility.
Pete.... sorry to hear about John. I could see the heartfelt emotion in your face and hear it in your voice. Flipping gears and not to be insensitive.... but does he end up providing food for the farm?
Wondering that, also
He mentioned in an earlier video that the meat would not taste good from a full grown boar like John and that once put down he would be laid to rest in the woods on the farm. Not sure if burried or just laid on the ground to feed the wildlife but no he wont feed the farm.
@@robreesor5011 - thanks Rob.... that does ring a bell now.....
@@robreesor5011 I guess I didn't catch that, sometimes I get distracted and probably missed that. I'm glad to hear it, really.
Thanks for sharing…..it always makes the day better. (And for letting me live vicariously)😊
Thanks for taking John to a better place. So glad you have a boaring life and you are considerate farmers.
Marines are awesome, I have one too! Thank you for your service sir.
It's good to see you have this new boar, he's cute! Now Sean and Jenny can see him on Just a Few Acres Farm, and see all his new little piglets.
It all worked out with John John, he was a good provider and I think it was better that he was letting you know he was ready to go.
I believe all things happen for a reason, and were meant to be. Thank you for sharing this delicate news.
Getting that new boar from Sean and Jenny sounds like a win win to me, a real nice looking one, from good folks. I feel your pain in dealing with John like that, it's hard when you have one for so long. I hope your family had a nice Thanksgiving and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
You both are great people it's nice to see other good people as well hes a nice looking boar sorry to hear about John but yall gave him a great life keep up the great work
Its so good to see kindness to our fellowman, selflessness for the good of all and a people of heart. Sean and his wife were very kind and Pete you responded in kind. This is what makes the world the place we we love to live in. Humanity at its best. Life has its cycles and we cannot escape them, we can only embrace them.
It was nice to see you daughter giving her Dad a hand. I imagine she's a big help around the farm.
JJ is a big boy, I hope performs well, Good luck for April!!
An unexpected, but very interesting development! It will fascinating to see what happens, going forward. Very, very nice of those folks, Sean and Jenny, to offer you such a good-looking boar!
You gave John an awesome life. A life of eating and making babies. In my humble opinion you did the right thing to end his suffering. Looking forward to to seeing the next chapter with the pigs!!! The new boar is awesome!
John had a good life. He was treated well, and when the time came, his end was quick and humane. Just because an animal is raised for a purpose on a farm, doesn't mean it isn't to be treated with kindness and respect. I love the way you treat your livestock. They only have one bad day.
Much love and respect from Ontario, Canada
Small farms built and fed America and they’re going to save America, as long as the government keeps their snouts out of farming.
I can’t wait to see JJ’s piglets too, John sure did make some nice ones.
Congratulations on the new boar. John was a good old fella. Things like that will happen. Have a great week. Be safe.
Nice looking Boar! And nice seeing your daughter make the trip with you. Always one of my favorite things was going with my Dad for long drives to pickup an animal or some farm equipment.
I think John told you it was the right time to put him down. When he was having trouble it was a sign. He had a good life with caring . You and Hilary gave John a good life.
R.I.P John, you did good.
Welcome JJ, you're a unit.
Pete, have you ever thought about making a pig pasture down in the woods?
Congratulations on the new boar! Can't wait to see his offspring. Super excited for you guys with the new hog area! I hope John was composted.
Thank you for not avoiding difficult subjects and explaining them well.
Pete, sorry to hear about big John. You did the right thing by ending his suffering. He served you well. Best of luck with the new endeavor.
