Just for the debit card if anyone is looking, I believe Bankwest comes with a default debit card that has 0% international transaction fees and 0 foreign ATM fees
I note you have had AMEX cards for years. If you were getting your first AMEX card which one would it be? The platinum card with 200,000 bonus points looks attractive especially when travelling a lot.
You'll receive up to 55 days worth of interest free days on all purchases. It's always recommended to pay off your statement balance in full every month otherwise you'll begin to be charged interest. Of course it's not mandatory, you can pay less just that you'd begin to be charged interest.
Hi Raymond, with your points strategy, after a period of time after closing a card would you be able to open the same card again and get a sign up bonus?
The five cards I have in my wallet: AmEx Gold, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Business Ink Cash, AmEx Blue Business Plus and I am applying for the Chase Sapphire Preferred (as my fifth). I am also getting the AmEx Platinum in the near future (when the SUB is > 100,000).
As a Westpac employee, I got the altitude black card with no annual fee but also no sign up bonus points. Is this really a benefit? Should I pair this with an Amex card?
I answer this question in a video I did about credit card hacking - ua-cam.com/video/ecRW53YVZmc/v-deo.html Short answer is that you could close it immediately, but I tend to wait 1-2 months at least.
Hey Raymond, what’s your views on the HSBC Star Alliance Gold credit card? Would be good to know about this on your next video. Always a big fan of your content!
Hey mate, if you have a mortgage already then it depends on how much you've already borrowed as to whether or not you'll be approved. If you're close to your max borrowing capacity then you'll likely be declined, but if you're a few years in with decent equity I think you have a solid chance of being approved.
Found your channel today and enjoying it thoroughly. I’m still a tiny bit stumped as to Amex explorer vs Ultimate. Also, I’ll dig deeper on your channel but if you haven’t already, please consider a video about Macquarie Bank cards.
It has a lot of great features, probably the bank with the best mobile UI but the only thing letting it down for me is the low interest rate offered. That's why I opt for UBank as they have similar features and a great UI but a more competitive interest rate.
Hi Raymond, I have 60k points in amex, I try to save point fly melbourne to los angeles, which airline partners you would suggest I transfer my points to? Thanks and regards
Hey Mate, thank you for the content! It's crazy I voluntarily retook my iPad to take a note after coming out from uni ages ago haha One question is this, do you reckon using an AMEX essential card for grocery shopping is worth it? Or should I change it to a bit more higher tier, such as Platinum edge, or is there any card suggestion for general use? And should I even use the credit card for the general woolies and Coles purchases? + What about the subscriptions such as Spotify? Should I use the AMEX for it as well? My Ultimate goal is to get those sweet AMEX points that I can use to book my hotels like Intercontinental or Hilton.
Hey mate, if you're looking to earn AMEX points you're best bet is to go for the AMEX Explorer. It has the signup bonus of 50K points, whereas if you go with the Essential Card there's no sign-up bonus at all. Definitely use your AMEX card for all of your daily shopping as there's no additional fees, subscriptions etc. are all fine too!
I love your videos but that thumbnail is misleading as we don't have that gold Amex in Australia. I have the explorer i would like the HSBC Star alliance card but i don't earn enough
Hey man, honestly the number of enquiries doesn't matter too much. It's your overall score that matters, if your score is currently in a healthy state then go ahead and apply for a new card! I make around 4 new enquiries per year as a reference and my credit score is excellent!
Hi Raymond, great video! Could you just clarify why you got the Macquarie Debit on top of the ING one? From what I have read ING also have 0 international transaction fees.
Just for the debit card if anyone is looking, I believe Bankwest comes with a default debit card that has 0% international transaction fees and 0 foreign ATM fees
You can also use Macquarie which is better as no fees and good interest rate. Bankwest also offers platinum zero, zero fees, zero rewards though.
Those watching in April 2024, the AMEX Essential has been discontinued
Very unfortunate because it was a solid card
I note you have had AMEX cards for years. If you were getting your first AMEX card which one would it be? The platinum card with 200,000 bonus points looks attractive especially when travelling a lot.
Does Amex still require you to pay your monthly expenditure within the month?
You'll receive up to 55 days worth of interest free days on all purchases. It's always recommended to pay off your statement balance in full every month otherwise you'll begin to be charged interest. Of course it's not mandatory, you can pay less just that you'd begin to be charged interest.
Hi Raymond, with your points strategy, after a period of time after closing a card would you be able to open the same card again and get a sign up bonus?
Hey mate, after 12-18 months (depending on the card) you can open up the same card and receive the sign up bonus again!
thats awesome, thanks!@@raymondla
@@raymondlaVery interesting thanks

I wouldn't say it's that big of a benefit since there wasn't a sign up bonus! AMEX is my recommendation if you're looking for travel rewards!
How long should you wait until you close the card?
I answer this question in a video I did about credit card hacking - ua-cam.com/video/ecRW53YVZmc/v-deo.html
Short answer is that you could close it immediately, but I tend to wait 1-2 months at least.

I would LOVE that video too.
I will check it out for a future video potentially! Appreciate the support!
I have an HSBC platinum card I would definitely love to see a video about HSBC cards
How do you manage to have so many cards I can't get approved for one. Can you explain what criteria these card providers have before they will approve
Hey mate, what impact does this have on people with a mortgage? Cheers!

love your videos bro, i always see you at the gym, i'll for sure say hi next time haha
11:13 Sorry what does it mean by balance doesnt have to increase by $1000 (point 1) but you have to increase balance each month (point 3)
Tia!
Enjoying your content keep it up! Still haven’t decided what credit card to get
Plenty of great options out there!

Glad you're enjoying the content mate!
Hey, for the ING card. What does it mean by increase the balance each month? Meaning as long as my savings keeps going up ?
Yes, I usually just transfer $1 to the Savings Maximiser account at the start of the month
I'm glad I found your content. I have the same cards for years...no benefits... haha. Subscribed 👍👍👍
Hi Raymond! Thoughts on Up Banking? Thanks
It has a lot of great features, probably the bank with the best mobile UI but the only thing letting it down for me is the low interest rate offered. That's why I opt for UBank as they have similar features and a great UI but a more competitive interest rate.
do you always lose points when you have to transfer your points from your old credit card to your new credit card?
If you don't open a new card then you'll end up losing your AMEX reward points if you don't spend them.
Hi Raymond, discovered your channel by chance. Terrific content. I will be reassessing my cards after this video. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
when you asked ANZ for your refund, did you keep the sign up bonus?
Yes you absolutely keep the sign-up bonus!
I think you probably just get lucky.. my last few calls with ANZ was NO PRO RATA, NO REFUND. NAB offered pro-rata previously until last year..

hey man was thinking of applying but don't want too many enquiries on my report, what is a good amount on my report for Equifax?

My card holder wallet suggestion would be a Buko pop up wallet
Thanks mate I'll look into that one!
Hi Raymond, great video! Could you just clarify why you got the Macquarie Debit on top of the ING one? From what I have read ING also have 0 international transaction fees.
Hey, the main reason is for $0 international ATM withdrawals
Your partner he must be so knowledgeable like you
