    On the couples front: so you’re saying it’s better using two separate accounts under the same bank and credit card type rather than having a joint credit card?

    • @raymondla
      @raymondla  8 місяців тому

      Absolutely! This way you get double the amount of bonus points! Obviously you'll need to factor in how you manage your finances as a couple as I know some people like to combine everything. But using this method will give you the most amount of points for travel.

    Apple - I'm quite new to the credit card game so gullible question though.
    1. What will happen to your points if you are to close your credit card?
    2. How long do you have to wait to be eligible for sign up bonuses again under the same provider? Eg.
    Amex only allows you to claim sign up bonus once for both business and personal credit cards, is this the same for other competitors?

    • @raymondla
      @raymondla  Рік тому +3

      Hey mate, all good no silly questions here, hope my response is helpful:
      1. Qantas/Virgin points are linked to your frequent flyer account, so they won't expire immediately if you close your credit card but will expire if you don't earn any additional frequent flyer points in 24 months. If you've accumulated other reward points e.g. AMEX they will expire if you close down your credit card but there is usually a period of time where they allow you to redeem your points, best to check the T&C as it may differ from bank to bank. I know that AMEX gives you 30 days to redeem your reward points.
      2. This depends on the provider itself and their T&C, there isn't a blanket time period for all companies. Best to read through the T&C once again on the card that you are wanting to apply for. I know that for AMEX you need to have closed down all your AMEX credit card and wait 18 months before you are eligible for another sign up bonus.

    apples - just wondering because it would very expensive opening/closing 3 or 4 credit cards per year (annual fees) what's an example of where you found benefit of this

    • @raymondla
      @raymondla  11 місяців тому +1

      Hey! There are plenty of $0 or reduced annual fee credit cards like the ones I mentioned in the video that give you up to $500 in gift cards each time as a welcome bonus, so there's your benefit right there. If you get a travel credit card and redeem them for flights the benefits are even greater, it also comes with travel insurance which would save you ¬$200 each time you travel.

    Apple. Loved the gift card option. Had never considered it. Quick question... I've a basic ANZ credit card with QFF rewards I've had for years😂. I'm charged $240 annual fee and $55 rewards program fee. No other perks. How do i cancel it? What happens to points not yet transferred to my QFF account ? Also how do you check your credit rating? I'm trying to accumulate points for travel so need the bonuses. Thanks

    • @raymondla
      @raymondla  8 місяців тому

      Glad you found the video useful! You can either call ANZ up or just cancel the card via the app/online. If it's a QFF earning card, the points should automatically transfer each month. But if it's ANZ rewards card, you'll typically have around 30 days to use them before they expire

    Question (Australia): If I have successfully got my bonus points after the 3 month credit card spend, do I then need to keep the credit card open for the rest of the 12 months or can I cancel it and still keep my bonus points? Reason I ask is I just got my bonus points and would like to get another credit card for bonus points but I don't know how long I have to wait (I will go with a different bank).

    • @raymondla
      @raymondla  10 місяців тому +4

      This depends on the type of bonus points that you received. If you received Qantas/Virgin points that have been credited to your frequent flyer account then feel free to close the card. But if you received reward points specific to the credit provider e.g. AMEX then often times you'll need to use up the points first. As when you close the card down you'll lose those points. Let me know if that isn't clear!

    • @Flyingsquirrel69420

      @Mr.PaulyP Місяць тому

      @@raymondla so for people who use AMEX credit cards is there no way to credit card churn and accumulate points from the sign up bonus?
      Do they just stick with the same credit card since if they close down their card they'll lose their points?

    • @hubertotle
      @hubertotle Місяць тому

      @@Mr.PaulyP not necessarily. From what I gather, if you have either a Velocity or a Qantas AMEX card then the sign up points you receive go to those respective rewards programs which you keep.
      It’s just when you want to churn Amex cards that give you Amex points (I forget what they’re called) where you’re in a bit of a pickle as discussed above!
      Hope this helps.

    Many thanks!

    • @raymondla
      @raymondla  Рік тому +1

      Hey mate, unfortunately you can't just pay with those points at checkout. Each credit card provider will typically have a 'Rewards Portal' where you can redeem your points for gift cards, you can typically find it somewhere when you log in to account.

    This was very helpful. Amex seems like a no brainer given the amount of partner airlines for people who do a bit of travelling internationally, would you agree? If I’m not mistaken though, not all places will accept Amex and many who do accept it have additional charges for that service?

    • @raymondla
      @raymondla  Рік тому +4

      I definitely am a big fan of AMEX. It is true that not all places accept AMEX but I've personally found that it is much less frequent these days. Some places will charge slightly higher fees for AMEX cards, whilst others will charge the same as Visa / Mastercard. That's why it's handy to have another Visa/Mastercard in your wallet in those scenarios 😉
