Except mine always breaks at about the 2cm point, so would be a depth gauge with a 2cm offset ☹️.
Neat project
Looks very handy, and not too bulky either for a small workshop. My one suggestion would have been to attach a thin strip of metal to the base of part that slides/measures. I'd be concerned that metal teeth would puncture into the wood over time and reduce the accuracy.

Excellent ... only suggestion I have is to extend the base slightly, allowing you to hold it down by the base rather than holding it at the top.

I often prefer DIY, and for sure over "plastic thingies".
Building simple, but also very useful tools and jigs from scrap, etc. are also good exercise projects for us beginners. As I also prefer buying materials over expensive tools I might only use 1once or twice, but looks good in my shop!!
And we don't have to make exact copies, but can change, improve, improvise, etc. the DIY jigs/tools videos we can find here on YT. And we can show people our collection of unique tools/jigs in our workshops, instead of boring (read: expensive!) workshops with only top
(read: expensive) brands tools!

Awesome! My only suggestion would be that you add a flat extension protruding from the bottom & back that would allow you to easily keep the gauge square and parallel with the tablesaw blade if you wanted the highest accuracy possible. Otherwise you could be out a partial mm depending on how straight you hold the depth gauge.

Very nice tool. Suggestion: Why don't you put another IMPERIAL ruler right next to the METRIC? Just zero them out together. Am definitely making this!

Notice the purchased versions allow you to measure from the work surface. Whereas, your version requires one to measure from the insert plate. However, if care is taken setting up inserts, that really shouldn't be much of an issue.
Exactly and it's something than can be improved or adjusted to the tasks you need it to tackle.
