Nice idea :) what I like about the Katsu router is that if you don't really need the plunge capability, you can pick up spare standard bases for just over £10 which is really handy, as for certain jigs (circle cutter for example) it means you can fix one to the base permanently at a reasonable cost to save you having to screw the base on and off all the time.
@@CasualDIY aye, I bought a spare as I saw how many jig possibilities there are, I have to admit I've not put it to use yet, but it's on the ever growing list lol
Great idea I will build one! I built your t track circular saw guide and it works very well. I mounted my saw track to a piece of plywood To make it a track saw. that I can just lay it on the line and cut. line.
Hi Thomas. Im Héctor from argentina and I want to thank you the slow way you talk that allow me to understand very wel I ask you if you made biggers holes on the base of the router so you can take out the router?? Thank you
Hi sorry not sure what you are asking me. I didn't drill anything in the aluminium base of the router. I make holes in the MDF in the exact same pattern as the router base so you can attach the MDF base to the router.
Nice idea but I’d be concerned about how much wear would occur, over time, on the sliding mdf channel, resulting in inaccurate play? Any thoughts? Thanks for posting
Thanks Thomas for this excellent and simple base for a router. I will try to make one. Did you remove the plastic at the bottom of the router or you kept it and drill it to get out the bolts?
Amazing videos, thanks for all the tips. And also, special thanks for speaking so well. Sometimes It is not easy to follow the videos in english due to the accents, speed, naming of the tools, etc and your speech is good in speed and clear pronunciation. I subscribed because I have evolution tools, I am starting in the DIY “wood world” and I found your videos really useful and easy to follow them. Thanks, merci, muchas gracias.
Having a guide is great. I like some of your design for the router base. I think readily available clamp guides would be better than the T track. They are stiffer and longer than t track and have a clamping mechanism built in.
Hi Tomasz, this a great video and a brilliant idea. I keep looking at T tracks and I would say that I can find at least 3 or 4 different types. Which one is compatible with the clamps for a track saw? Could you post the internal dimensions of the T Track that you use for this video so I can look for the same type? Thank you in advance!
Thomasz, I totally agree with Peter Millard, this is a brilliant idea. You mention that the T-Track is 12mm high and I have tried to find similar but there seems to be a number of different sizes available. Have you standardised on a specific size and if so what width is the track you use. You mention that you get it from Banggood or AliExpress; do you have any links that you could share?
That's the problem with these t-tracks they can get bit pricey so I always wait and look for a good offer. But that comes with it's own issues. I got 4 different sizes t-tracks lol. So I either buy more or just enough to last me for a project. I couldn't find any good deals today. But check this one for example [£3.69 24% OFF]Red Aluminum Alloy 300-1220mm T-track T-slot Miter Track Jig T Screw Fixture Slot 19x9.5mm For Table Saw Router Table Woodworking Tool Tool Accessories from Tools on banggood.com banggood.app.link/owBYcvvcs7
Another great project. I particularly liked the use of acrylic- a real boon to accuracy. The only criticism of the design is, by attaching to the bottom of the router plate, you lose cut depth, if that's important. Great use of t track.
@@CasualDIY However, you also lose 6mm-10mm on some router plates. It's only an issue cutting deep rebates, T slots or similar. And Tomas, using T Track like that is a great idea and you could also use box section aluminium the same way.
Very clever idea Thomas. I might think that, for dado's, there would be a bit of back and forth lining up the acrylic marks accurately. I'd consider adding an edge guide (T square) to the t-track for quick alignment?!
Wiedziałam, że z UK. Zastanawiałam się tylko z jakiego miasta konkretnie. Fascynują mnie akcenty. Ja mieszkałam przez 5 lat w Colchester w czasie studiów.
Hi Thomas, From the UK, i bet a track SAW version of this would work just as well with a slightly beefed up track. Reclaimed Click & Lock laminate flooring would be a great partner for the build.
Well done Thomas’s for your strict attention to safety precautions with the mitre saw. Wouldn't it have been better to fit the thread inserts from below to use the flanges to support the tension on the bolts?
Thanks, yes you could do that, would definitely make it a lot stronger. Been using them for a while now in all sort of projects and not had an issue installing then like that. Saying that not used them in MDF so that could be an issue 🤔
Iam stealing this idea off you thomazs...... cracking idea mate 👌 very good 👍where do you buy your t track from mate. Marking the acrylic was brilliant 👏
I get the ttracks depending on where I can find the best price. Mainly from Banggood or EBay. Sometimes Aliexpress. The Freud blade is a beast but the Saxton is not worse. Time will tell which one is better.
Bloody genius, Tomasz! Big fan of your videos and think this is probably your best yet! Never would have thought of using T-track in this way without you! Thanks!!
Hi, I buy the t-tracks where I can find them on offer. Mainly from Banggood or EBay, sometimes on Amazon. I got two set of clamps, one came with the track saw from Evolution and the other one I got off Amazon Dewalt clamps amzn.to/2YWMba7
I do appreciate the whole idea. I'll just apply a few mods. Instead of t-tracks - which I don't have already -, I'll use square (or rectangular) section alu tubing, which are sold quite cheap in 1m-long format. I don't have your clamps, so I'll use "normal" ones, thus saving twice! Also - as someone else pointed out - that MDF base (plus the plastic bottom of the router) will waste a decent amount of depth. Considering that the base of your jig has a very small area and it lays flat without doing any significant effort, I'll use a piece of 4mm plywood. The acrylic guides are clever. Despite the difficulty of cutting acrylic (as I said in my post about the tablesaw zero-plate), those two small and square pieces shouldn't pose big problems, with a bit of care. P.S. I suspect the lockdown took a toll on your silhouette, Tom, uh? Well, it did the same to me. Unfortunately, I'm almost twice your age and your girth (lockdown+recently retired wife = lots of cakes+lot of time to spend eating). Take care. Carlo
