- Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice commented that Karen’s Lip-syncing was very good, saying she must be ‘a reliable performer’ to be so precise.
Out of curiosity I gathered all of the video I could find of her song, '(They Long to Be) Close to You’ to hear if Karen was different with each performance.
Considering minor motor speed changes in these tape transfers, I compared each live performance to the original album release and found they do vary - but not a lot. So much for keeping a steady beat.
At the end of this video I overlapped a few performances for extra harmony.

The idea for this video came from The Charismatic Voice review of (They Long to Be) Close to You.

I always liked the hairdo in the second clip. It was so flattering to her.
I made a fool of myself and sang this to a girl in JHS in front of the entire lunchroom. It was SOOOOO worth it, she and every one of her friends were putty in my hand after that, lol.
I highly recommend Rick Beato’s breakdown of Carpenters music and why it’s different from today’s.

God bless couldn't overcome the demons
Were lip-sync performances common back then?
This is what Google says, ..most variety shows of the 1960s, vocals and instrumentals were all (with a few notable exceptions on American Bandstand) synced to pre-recorded music.
@@DaveNarn Wow i had no idea.. thanks for looking it up and responding
