What's worse than Rimmer? Try a whole planet full of Rimmers.
This had to be re-edited to get past the Content ID System. A better-looking version is here: vid.me/vvKjh
I love the shot of rimmers stress balls now being small marbles because hes been grinding them for over 500 years, that was a great gag
And pathetic way he pushes them around with one finger :D
What's interesting about Rimmerworld is that it apparently still exists in universe. Usually when the Dwarfers accidentally create or discover something, they end up destroying it again, but Rimmerworld is still intact when they leave. So presumably the Rimmers are still out there.
Scary thought, but yeah =P
It's a good loose end for a revisit for the Bois From The Dwarf or if they ever want a new generation to take over.
Rimmer could have switched back to his soft light mode and gone through the walls to escape his prison, but he still would’ve been trapped on Rimmerworld till Derek Custer showed up.
The issue is that the moment any other Rimmer would find him, they'd try to capture him or alert the authorities, and Rimmer's Light Bee would be too at risk in Soft Lift mode.
At this point, does he know how to yet? How much time has passed since 'Legion?'
@@rebajoehe knows how to do it as he starts out in Soft Light during Gunmen and then goes back to Hard Light later in the episode
Only just discovered these logs. Definitely a great time filler
Chris Barrie really should have been / should be more famous. The guy has really great comic timing and a wonderfully plasticy face which he uses to pull some hilarious expressions. He should have had a similar career to Rowan Atkinson in my eyes.
Maybe if the Tomb Raider movies gave him more screentime he would've ended up like that
i would love to have meet/sexy times with chris. i just cant but crumble.. oh dear
I think it’s because he never really strayed from sitcoms.
it was a bunch of poor decisions/luck really. he was offered to voice zazu from the lion king but he refused 💀
For me he's more talented than Atkinson
I really wish Telltale games or some over game studio will take the rights to bring us a video game with the same actors giving their voices. It would be awesome. There are endless possibilities in video games.
After seeing what the Telltale art style did to Batman, I feel the same away about an Archer endeavor.
there is a video game, hard to play at first
sounds like it would be like the old spaseqest games
The only theory I'm going to offer up about why the UK audience didn't react to the reading of "I AM HE!" is that in the UK, we all talk like that.
The thing for me is...isn't Rimmer's "betrayal" actually the best plan he could have come up with? They know shooting might bring the ship down around them and the simulant specifically just put a hole in the ceiling above her head, meaning that, assuming Rimmer actually hits her and not one of the others or the wall, possibly killing them all, what ever he does, the ceiling is mostly likely to collapse where she's standing, with every chance that he could end up blocked off from the others and the teleporter and might have had abandon him. The escape pod was the safest bet they had of all getting out in tact.
"After you with the balls, Sir."
From what I've heard, originally the ending was just a joke at Listers expense. Lister walked into the room shortly after their past selves had left.
But the writers thought this might be good foreshadowing for what would eventually turn out to be Listers fate in a future episode and so left the joke without it's punch line.
In that respect, the ending of this episode could take place after 'Out of Time' where the crews future selves never showed up and they are on their way to becoming their future selves.
You are correct.
I never thought I'd be able to say I'm looking forward to seeing a cat video on UA-cam.
Charles Teague
LOL!!
MOAR CAT!!
I'm ashamed to say how anxiously I was awaiting this
Sweet of you :)
“Grind those balls sir. Grind them”!
The makings actually reveal the "hideous thing that happened to Lister" was actually Rimmer intentionally taunting Lister, as in a deleted scene, Lister walks in 100% fine to prove Rimmer was lying.
I kinda wish that they scrapped Emohawk and made this a two parter. I feel like the plot takes too much time to set up the actual premise that by the time we eventually get to it they have to rush the ending. I could imagine the dwarfers creating a clone army of Ace Rimmers to overthrow the government sort of like in the ending of terrorform.
Great idea. However, I'd also like the GELF wedding to be incorporated in to another episode for the "I'm just going to slip in to something more comfortable. It's called Starbug" joke. They could edit the scene though. And, of course, they wouldn't release a polymorph.
Just to add to the ending line; there was a deleted scene where Lister comes out of the toilet, but it was removed to tie in to episode 6.
I kind of always wondered why Rimmer told Kryten not to tell anyone else about the stress thing. It probably would have been better all the way around if Rimmer had stayed on Starbug grinding his balls.
The final scene actually originally went on longer with after the present timeline crew teleporting away the future Lister enters the room fine. You can see it in the deleted scenes.
Perhaps its just me not having seen the full episode, but I have some admiration for an episode which is about a character creating his own civilization, and it being ... relatively glanced over.
By that I mean that it takes a while till the characters get there, and it doesn't last for that long (relatively). Not a complaint, more of an observation, it works perfectly well for this :)
should watch then, hey
it's rimmerworld. as kyrten notes its too hideous to contemplate. hence why they glance over it.
3:27 - It's strange that Rimmer refers to Lister as "Lister" when talking to Lister...
I just thought of something. After 20 years of watching the show. Its 3 million years in the future. The stimulants presumably wiped out all human life then went out into deep space to hunt for more.
If kryten KNOWS what simulants do to human captors and the simulants dont seem surprised when they see the dwarf crew. That means theres loads of other humans out there all the time and the crew just dont meet them.
8:57 to 9:00 sooo Rimmer accidently created a human version of the skaven under empire. expect everyone is Rimmer that's just unspeakabley horrable
so happy to see one of these again :)
It was a random gag, if you check the deleted scenes you will see how it was supposed to end but they changed it so it would fit the plot better and turned it into a teaser for future episode.
I think I knew that and was making a joke (old video, but I usually watched the making-of documentaries beforehand).
the end time travel gag was meant to be a one off the original in edited seen has Lister coming out of the W.C. rite after the main crew leave
Are you gonna make the Promise Land video?
Probably not for a long time, but I'm at least hoping to watch it tonight or tomorrow.
Naked Chris Barrie. Nuff said.
Ro Jaws
Just wait until season 8, LOL
Ro Jaws Interesting when you consider he was in another show where he ran a gym.
stunt butt. Implication is that Rimmer's DNA makes him totally manscaped by default.
So Rimmer didn’t think to switch to soft lite to escape through the walls without them being able to catch him.
I think Kryten needs to do it for him.
Cyborcat true, didn’t Rimmer do it himself in season 10? I don’t know, I haven’t watched season 10 in a while.
Strange how people look for logic in Red Dwarf. go back to THE END. There isn't a drop of logic from beginning to end. It's just funny.3 million years and their belongings haven't rotten away. the ship is still functioning and on and on. Its just fun guys, to my mind its the funniest thing on TV, I've seen them so many times that I can close my eyes and within 3 seconds of the title music ending can tell you what episode it is.. My mother is 73 and can't understand a word they are saying (her English is pretty poor) but sits there and laughs her ass off, especially Rimsy.and Cat. Cheers, Thanks for your hard work.
You're entitled to your opinion but personally I think it's more fun to use your imagination to try and come up with explanations.
Read the books. They explain basically all of those points, in tons of detail.
I agree, it’s comedy sci fi and everything doesn’t have to be logically explained like Star Trek and certain scenarios not making sense or not being plausible doesn’t matter that much in the red dwarf universe!
@@Wright805 it's spelt comedy, not continuity 🙂
Yippie! New RD vid, thanks much! Loving these vids you make!
Rimmerworld has always been a disturbingly fun episode. And because it's Red Dwarf, it's easy to overlook the "Where did Rimmer get the DNA from?!"... one sorta has to, in order the enjoy the goofiness the writers had in mind.
Yah, it's a comedy, so I'm not too hard on it for stuff like that, but sometimes I think it's amusing to point out when stuff doesn't make sense.
The Red Dwarf Programme Guide offers 2 possible explanations for how Rimmer is able to create organic clones: 1) His light bee's programme may contain his genetic code and/or 2) he was able to synthesize DNA using material from his hard light body. Plus Kryten pointed out that the pod contained equipment for genetic engineering.
You left out the best line, "what about me, Derrick and Titan?"
I'm pretty sure I included it in the Cat video that covers this episode.
When Kryten and Rimmer are talking about worm hole time dilation, I like to think a young Christopher Nolan was watching it and thinking "Hmmm, interesting!"
Easily the funniest episode for me, and the first one I ever saw. Stumbled across it on PBS back in '95 after work, switching through channels while dinner was heating up. Been a fan ever since.
7:22 No one even remember that cliche anymore even to make fun of it. If anyone used it now it would be fresh again.
I'm really enjoying these 🙂 have you read any of the red dwarf novels? They go into much more details than the shows.
I listened to the audio book for IWCD, then started listening to Better Than Life, but I lost interest partway through, and I just never got back to them.
Glad you like the videos ^.^
@@Cyborcat if you can find it read backwards or give it a go it's the follow up to better than life. Have you got a favourite episode?
Definitely Gunmen of the Apocalypse.
@@Cyborcat mine too 🙂
I can imagine they have digitized his DNA as well as his mind and it's stored on his Light Bee. Supposedly the human genome can be compressed into 4 megabytes, so I doubt it takes up that much more space than all his memories and personality (insert joke about how with Rimmer you can't be too sure here insert counter joke about how you'd need at least an Internet's worth of storage for just his neuroses).
It should be noted this is the only episode that seems to have live that didn't originate on Earth. Shame it's almost completely genetically replace with Rimmer.
"There hasn't been a prison built that can hold Derek Custer!"
whot should i do with these goldfish NOW
Yay more RD vlogs! Also couldn’t Rimmer have just switched to soft light mode and walked right out of the cell ( I know his light bee is solid but who cares? I did hear a theory though, that it operates on a slightly different dimension or something so that it can project and pass though solid objects) rather than sitting there for 60 years!? And when Cat, Kryten and Lister accidentally go back in time, Rimmer is in soft light mode so it is most likely before legion but after they lost Red Dwarf. WHO ELSE CANNOT WAIT FOR SERIES 12!?!? Even though it smegging rains all the time, this makes me glad to live in Britain lol so we get to see it straight away😹 anyway great vid!
I'm not sure if Rimmer can switch to soft light on his own--I think every time it's happened on-screen Kryten was doing it for him. I could be wrong, but that's how I remember it. Also, as seen in episodes like Gunmen of the Apocalypse, he sometimes switches to soft-light to save on power, so the the time they ended up in wasn't necessarily before Legion (in fact, I think I remember Kryten saying it was a week--if all of Season 6 took place withing a week, that'd be nuts XD).
Series 10 shows it's Rimmer who switches his light modes as he does it on his own to get through a door, he's probably too insecure to switch himself back to soft light in this episode
I remember that scene, but I thought I remembered him directing Kryten to do it for him. Oh well, it's been awhile.
It wouldn't do him much good to get out of the cell anyway, he'd still be stranded on the planet, and maybe they'd eventually figure how how to destroy his light bee. As much as it sucks in the cell, at least they'd leave him alone in there.
Quickly checked the episode he activates it not Kryten
9:29 One might even say that he has a cunning plan
Chris Barrie was in an episode of Blackadder.
Reba Joe hes so good in it he’s almost unrecognisable
You should do a video on ether the relationship between Cat and Lister moments or cute/funny moments the crew have.
Must have been the 6th I've watched on the way home on the bus.
Doing God's work me lady
Glad you like 'em! ^.^
Good Evaluation.
the same ppl who made the game pocket mortys should make a similar game called pocket rimmers
The female simulant's amazing.
Something always bugged me about what Kryten said about mutations being necessary. Genetic congenital disorders are caused by mutations.
no, they are reinforced, that's why you cant marry your sister, or your mum. the law is because of that, and not any moral thing.
How does anything you just said contravene what I said? The existence of mutated genes is still the root cause. The expression of congenital disorders is marginally increased by incestuous breeding, because it increases the odds of loss of healthy genes in favor of mutated genes.
Mutations ARE necessary though. If mutations didn't happen, we would still be apes. We literally cannot evolve without mutations. It's just that some mutations are helpful, many are not. But we need them badly.
@@Sledg0matic so Kryten was 100% correct.
@@3122tan "But sir, don't they realise the only way any
society can evolve is through mutations in the gene pool. When there is no richness or variety, congenital disorders and inherited lunacy are commonplace. Who can forget the famously insane European monarchies of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries."
No, he had his facts bass ackwards. Those European monarchies were chock full of mutations in their gene pool which ARE congenital disorders. That's like saying "Ketchup? No thanks! I'm having Heinz 57 sauce on MY burger!"
40 out of 86, I keep saying just one more.
They announced basic plot details for next season XII any thoughts?
I'm avoiding spoilers as much as I can, so I'm avoiding info like that.
Cyborcat I was hoping to do that, until they put all the series 12 episode titles on series 11 blue ray.
Wow, WTF?
Yeah since they were making series 11 and 12 at the same time, they accidentally gave the designer of the blue ray cover the list of series 12 episodes instead of 11, so they had to all be recalled
Oh, at least it wasn't intentional. I thought you meant that they added it as a "preview" of sorts.
I didn't like it as much as you did. I found the Rimmer clones were very much like they were in Season 5's episode "Terraform". Also, I don't like too many episodes that show more than one or two of the same character. It looks too shabby, as did this episode of Rimmerworld.
I don't think those were female Rimmers; just more male Rimmers dressed as women for atmosphere.
If they were meant to be male, they wouldn't have used female stand-ins with masks and had a face-reveal. Also, Kryten talks about the consequence of inbreeding. If there were no females, breeding wouldn't have happened in the first place.
OMG...FIRST??? 😱
I am SOOOOOO happy for you! You should have dinner at the Olive Garden to celebrate. Have some bread sticks and a box of wine. Then drive home.
"There hasn't been a prison built that could hold Derek Custer!"
