- Artist: Johnny Rivers
- peak Billboard position # 14 in 1968

Summer rain taps at my window
West wind soft as a sweet dream
My love warm as the sunshine
Sittin' here by me, she's here by me-ee-ee
She stepped out of the rainbow
Golden hair shinin' like moon glow
Warm lips soft as a soul
Sittin' here by me, she's here by me-ee-ee
All summer long we spent dancin' in the sand
And the jukebox kept on playin'
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
We sailed into the sunset
Drifted home caught by a gulf stream
Never gave a thought for tomorrow
Just let tomorrow be, now, let tomorrow be-ee-ee
instrumental interlude
She wants to live in the Rockies
She says that's where we'll find peace
Settle down, raise up a fam'ly
To call our own, yeah, well have a home
All summer long we spent groovin' in the sand
Everybody kept on playin'
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
The snow drifts by my window
North wind blowin' like thunder
Our love's burnin' like fire
And she's here by me, yeah, she's here with me-ee-ee
Let tomorrow be-ee-ee-ee
instrumental to end
Johnny definitely deserves to be in the Rock and Roll HOF. Kenny was hitting some very classy licks there.
The best summer song of all time🎸Johnny Rivers for Rock n Roll Hall of Fame!
Should be in R&R Hall of Fame
Taylor Swift and Dolly Parton are in the hall of fame. What???? I call it the hall of shame.
Johnny Rivers belongs in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!
What a great singer and writer. Should be in Rock and Roll Hall of fame!
One of the most underrated musicians ever.fabulous.
This is my favourite of all Johnny's songs. And Johnny', if you're reading this, know that you are loved in Canada too.
Marty Stuart's band did such a great job of recreating the magic of Johnny's original recording of this song.
They are wonderful and play any genre!
Johnny Rivers is ETERNAL!
Wow is all I can say about this rendition of my favorite Johnny Rivers' song!
Another great JR song. Poor Side of Town, Summer Rain, Secret Agent Man. this is what I grew up on and it's why I play guitar.
After having seen Marty here on YT backing up the Byrds, and now this masterpiece; I realized he is a true "Keeper of the Flame". Rock on Marty and Johnny!
I just love love Johnny Rivers
Johnny Rivers is really great...why isn't he in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Amazing!
I like to know why too!
Been a fan of Johnny Rivers for a long time . This is just one reason.
The reason Johnny Rivers is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is because he is one lucky guy
One of rocks pure golden voices.
Fabulous singer songwriter. Classic Johnny Rivers ❤️
Love the song and the singer!! I love everything by Johnny Rivers!
Johnny rivers my new hero
I can watch it every day this is the best post of this song
I'm amazed at the strength and clarity of his voice. He seems much younger than his age. As soon as he started to sing I instantly recognized that unique and distinctive voice. This is a great post
Wow, sounds great and I flashed back to the early 70’s!! Awesome 👏 will someone please get him into the Hall of Fame!
Thank you Johnny .
My friend had this played at her wedding. This and “Waterloo Sunset” by the Kinks.
People were looking for a meaning but I knew she picked those songs because they are beautiful.
Awesome
Starting 2021 off right- Listening to Johnny Rivers- ❤
I've been listening to Johnny since the mid 60's, and still do in May,2021!
It is indeed a crime that he is not in the rock and roll hall of fame.He is still a fabulous talent.I traveled 1500 miles to see him perform in Vegas.Sold out show.Go see him while he is still touring. You will be amazed.
+Doug Mac #uck the R&R hall of Shame!
R u kidding
God damn master
I'm 51 years old, I don't care if I've heard this song a million times I still stop and listen , it makes me wonder if I've ever experienced true love,
Very few songs can make me feel melancholy
Old rockers never die they just keep getting better. Great memory song from my high school days.
Like fine wine, this song just gets so much better with aging. There is now a complexity with this performance that brings forth a richness from a life time of passion. An artist redefining the subject of love, each version reflecting the ever changing phases in a man's life. Thanks to youtube community for posting so many different clips of this classic song!
My favorite oldie! Thanks for sharing!!! I grew up listening to this type of good music!! They play real instruments not just scratch sounds off others music. Real talent no gimmicks just the REAL stuff!!
Thanks for the Comment :)
Wow this is so great! His voice is still the same after all these years and what a fantastic job they did on this song!
Sam Pelczarski Thanks for the comment :)
Your are right "WOW". Amazing voice he took care of it.👊
sounds incredible
Marty Stuart's band is probably the best band in the business. The Superlatives back up every guest that comes on the show. They also play the guests songs perfectly, just like they did with Summer Rain. Johnny Rivers should've been in the R&R Hall of Fame before ANY of the garbage from the 80's thru today got in. Pathetic, they put in the one or two hit wonders and ignore artists like Mr Rivers!
Thanks for the great comment! :)
I agree 150%! He recorded many songs including Summer Rain. It is indeed a crime that a man of his talent has been overlooked by the R & R hall of fame.
Marty and his band are top notch, I tune in to reruns of his show now and then on RFD TV. The HOF lost it's way many years ago. They started out well early on, but deviated so far from what I think of as HOF-worthy rock and roll that they're a total joke to me now. Laughable.
What a talent and what a great song. "Drifted home caught by a Gulf Stream"...one of my favorite lyrics ever.
Thanks for the comment!! This a great song!!
Do you know who wrote that song? I do.
@@vincestapleton703 James Hendricks.
Slow Dancing swaying to the music was written by Jack Tempchin, who also wrote Peaceful Easy Feeling
this guy is such a treasure!
Happy 73rd. birthday to Johnny-my favorite song of his.He looks great and sounds as good as he did in the '60's.
I love this guy, takes me back!! and I like your cat too
Thanks for the comment! :)
Great memories trapped in the lyrics of this cool song for anyone that experienced 1967 and Sgt Peppers. Rivers look great for a man 73 yrs old., good artist!
Thanks for the comment :)
The first time i ever heard Sgt.Peppers was on Haight St.in 1967.Someone had it on 8 Track and was playing it in a car, with the door opened, parked next to the curb. There were a lot of us listening.Good times.
What a band 👍
OMG HIS VOICE IS STILL THE SAME--- WOW!!
I know...How is it possible. He has a rare gift.
I loved the original recording and this live version is great , what a performance ! Thanks so much for the upload .
Thanks for the comment! :)
What a great band Marty Stuart's side kicks are : they are brilliant everyone of them - and yes Johnny rivers ( secret agent man) is boss too!!
🎸👍🎤
What a show! Marty &. that fine, fine band of his backing up the legendary Johnny Rivers? Truly, a match made in musical heaven!
He sounds amazing...great voice, great guitar, and great looking, still...:) Love it.
Amazing rivers so amazing.big man.
thanks for posting the songs of Johnny Rivers. He is still a great singer.
This is a song that used to come on the radio and I had no idea who it was or what it was called. But I loved it, mostly because of that beautiful chromatic descending tonic cadence. So now, I'm recording a version of it.
eternal brilliance from Johnny !!!
Fantastic love song..from a guy in Colorado
He still looks and sounds sensational!
To say he's a great talent is just not enough! SO MANY MEMORIES FOR SO MANY YEARS. THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR TALENT WITH THE WORLD. NEVER FORGOTTEN. LOVED FOR ALWAYS.
Impeccable timing and great sound on that guitar by the lead guitar player. The whole Marty Stuart band with Johnny make it one of the best versions of this song I've ever seen. I've watched this and Poor Side of Town on this show many many times. Thanks for the upload!
Your Welcome :)
Marty has to have one of the best bands playing with him. I try to watch them every Saturday night on RFD-TV when I can.
But I agree that it’s a dirty shame that Madonna and those crap singers are in the R&R HOF, and Johnny is not.
Who's on lead?
@@clovehitch1854 Kenny Vaughn
He (JR) is a true living legend his sound helped shape the sound of American music of the 60's.. and SHOULD already be in the RRHOF ..It has been said if Elvis hadn't been born.. JR would be him . We are both from Baton Rouge Louisiana..
I watch the Marty Stuart Show quite often. His band plays every song better than it was played originally. Most talented band since Pink Floyd!
Thank you for giving all these great unsung artists a great band and a place to share their music Marty
Hands down my favorite Johnny Rivers song-written by James Hendrix and recorded on 1968's Realization. And he still sounds great!!!!
Great acoustic version of this song.Johnny Rivers at his best
Back again!!!
68 degrees, summertime and softly raining here[southern Oregon].Can't get any better.
Welcome back :)
It's hard to believe this is three years ago....He sounds awesome, and his voice hasn't aged hardly at all....I listen to his albums on UA-cam, and listen to the videos when he appeared on all the variety shows....This is the first one I've seen, where he's signing live....incredible! sounds the same...
Thanks for the comment :)
Actually, I think he sounds better than ever! Way more expressive and emphatic in the way he puts it together. This backup band certainly did the song justice as well! Professional polish and experience have only served to improve the overall effect!
With all of his hits, why was he never entered into the R&R hall of fame ?
What a GIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! INIMITABLE FOR ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Woke up this morning singing this. Great times and he's still fabulous.
I enjoy all of his work . I mean from the time he was a kid to currently . He never disappoints . ❤️❤️❤️
Still looking great Johnny! I love this song, it never seems to lose that mysterious tone.
+Tammie Smith
Indeed!
Damn sooo good!!!
Damn!! One of my all time favorite JR tunes. Excellent
thanks for posting............
:)
Damn that's a great clip! Thanks so much for posting it batman! I'm a major fan of JR's and he's barely aged and the voice is as good as ever! Johnny is an absolute legend to anyone with a knowledge of his times. Saw him live one time. He blew me away then and he blows me away now! WOW!!
TY-Grrr
Thanks for the comment....He is still great till this day :)
Our love burning like 🔥 fire.......Love you Johnny, heard you sing it twice live with tears rolling down my face...💕
Top song J.R.
Marty ,you have the best band
What a great performance of a great song ! Thank you so much for sharing !
Very welcome! Thanks for posting it! His Live at the Whisky à Go Go was one of the first LPs I ever bought so it's great to hear him live again.
What an amazing talent.
excellent upload!¡ a great song with good audio and image quality. thank`s Battman for this treat :-)
los arreglos de la primera guitarra, son realmente buenos, concisos, derrochan buen gusto,la version de Johnny sublime!!
Still looks and sounds incredible; his voice is just as good as it was 50 years ago.
This sounds just as great as it did 30 years ago. What a remarkable talent
Saudades desse tempo
How about Kenny on those fills on the guitar? Man. So much talent on stage. Johnny Rivers is so good. Great performance by Jonny Rivers and the Superlatives.
All his songs are good.
WOW! Johnny looks and sounds fantastic! 70 and still going strong. I've seen 50 yr olds that don't look this good. Just look at some of the older, so-called "rock stars", they look old and burned out. I hope I look this good at 70! (another 10 yrs for me). :)
Love this song, thanks for posting!
HE HAS THAT SINGING VOICE THAT IS TRULY UNIQUE. YOU KNOW WHO IT IS IMMEDIATELY WHEN HE STARTS SINGING. HOW HE IS NOT IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME IS TRULY MIND BLOWING....🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔😎
How great is this song? And, how smooth is Marty Stuart 🤩
Just love Johnny Rivers! He sounds as great as ever and looks wonderful!
A great song, and I have always like the reference, (tribute to), the Beatles in this song.
Talented, that Johnny Rivers
He looks and sounds great
Love the bass sound in this band
O CARA CONTINUA O MÁXIMO ..........
Johnny is one of the all time best!!
My favorite is poor side of town. I was raised in poor side of town. Life is good
Johnny Rivers is not in the R&R Hall of Fame? If not then why is it there?
I hope they put him in soon!!
+Frankly Terrence F those pimps.
+Frankly Terrence He should learn to urinate on stage like Patti Smith. It worked for her.
Good Question Frankly Terrence. Johnny should be in R&R Hall of Fame. Great Singer!!
Would be nice to see him inducted while he’s still around. While he did a lot of covers, his versions were often better than the originals. The HOF should wake up and vote him in. Long overdue.
MINHA ETERNA PAIXÃO !!!
Riddle me this... Why isn't Johnny Rivers in the Hall of Fame??????
Johnny Rivers is not in the Rock Hall.....But Madonna is.....Madonna being in the Rock Hall is like Richard Simmons being in the football hall of fame.....What a damn joke !
You make a point but your homophobia is showing. [Jerk]
@@t.e.gregory912 don't be so overly sensitive. do YOU think Simmons could play football? right.
@@t.e.gregory912 I didn't know that Madonna was gay-learn something everyday.s/
That's a no shitter !!!!!
@Surfer Bob, Santa Cruz Legend. he did some covers of songs that were previous hits. he had great songs that he made hits though he didn't write them (slow dancing, summer rain). but his best song, Poor Side Of Town, he wrote.
WOW!! you sound even better then before!! Wow! Great Job!!
HE IS THE BEST
