A few decades ago and for some reason, Johnny returned to his adopted home town of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he performed a free, outdoor concert, on the grounds of the Old State Capitol. Almost no one showed up!! I did and was standing at the stage, directly in front of Johnny. He played all his hits beautifully. When he left the stage, I asked the drummer if I could have Johnny's guitar pick. I still have it. Says "Johnny Rivers" on it!😊

@@jerryadkins5058 - Mostly NOT true! He wrote many songs that were covered by others. To apply your generalization to others, Elvis Presley was also mainly a COVER ARTIST! Many of Elvis's hits, especially the early ones were "borrowed" from Black Singers that main stream radio stations refused to play their music. Credit to Elvis and Ricky Nelson for covering these songs and bringing much needed attention to them. Sorry lad, no disrespect, but Johnny Rivers definitely should be in the so-called Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. But differing opinions are appreciated!

I haven't heard this song in so long. What a beautiful song and so many memories. In 1967 I was dating a girl named Sandra. She was so much fun and sooo cute, but after a while she wanted to date others which I never really understood. Sometimes when she did I would park in the transmission shop across the street in my '62 Pontiac listening to my 8 track tape of Johnny Rivers greatest hits to make sure there wasn't anything going on on her front porch. Well, in Feb. 1968 I went in the Air Force and by the time I was discharged we were married, we had a child, two cars in the garage and the white picket fence. This past Feb, we celebrated 52 years together. Hard to believe.

This song is now so iconic a description of 1967 and the era that followed it should be the anthem of the 60's. Rivers was surely an underrated writing talent. The arrangement of the orchestra totally supports the poetic description of the lyrics. The chord progression shows a longing mood to return to the idealistic feeling of our youth. The mere mention of Sgt. Pepper punctuates the whole idea of the song. Anyone who doesn't get it did not live in the era or was asleep with a crew cut head.

My other brother, also now dead, got them from some music mail system. My Brother home from Vietnam connected with his best high school buddy also home as lost his right leg in Vietnam both were killed in a car accident. We lived in true hell for a long time after we buried him. Me and my other brother lost ourselves in albums he got in the mail order system, Columbia House I believe. @Catherine Hazur Maybe YOU are not evolving or progressing in any way,but I sure am.....Im the happiest I've ever been in my life...I've been meditating since 1970 and have had many mystical and OBE(out of body) experiences which were totally mindblowing! I've met my "spirit Guides" or Gaurdian Angels twice + met Jesus once while out of my body+ I've never been the same since talking to Him..(telepathic.no physical speech). As Christ has said :The KIngdom of Heaven is within you" seek and you shall find" Thats exactly what I have done and the results far outweigh the long hours of steady meditating I've done over the years...This is the "Blossom time" Jesus foretold of over 2000 years ago...Its an exciting time to be alive right now..what a adventure were in for! I can't wait to see how it all unfolds! Light and LOVE to all sentient beings! NAMASTE.

One of the songs I remember from my younger days.
I was a 20 year old in 1968 when this song was popular on the radio in both Los Angeles and San Diego.
I was in the US Navy at the time training on US Swift Boats in Coronado, Ca. in preparation for my deployment

Hell of a time as I remember and we enjoyed the best music in my lifetime.

Did you know Johnny Rivers is the one who helped Glen Campbell get famous? . I was in California in the mid 80,s and was working in construction in Hollywood. I was just a nobody and I dropped in on Johnny Rivers small studio and was greeted very warm. I told the secretary my parents were big fans and she gave me 2 pictures signed by Johnny Rivers. 1 was him playing at a Major League Baseball game. My parents cherished these pics and still listen to Johnny Rivers. Now I find myself doing the same🙂👍

***** Hello ... Hal Blaine, who was sorta of the leader of "The Wrecking
Crew" (L.A. studio musicians) plays the drums on the whole album. Hal Blaine,
played on over 6,000 hit RPM records! He is a gracious man and a pleasure to talk to. The best drummer in my mind along with Russ Kunkel and Earl Palmer. Between them - they played on just about every song recorded from the late 50's to mid 80's. I might add the bassist is Joe Osborn and is Larry Kenechtel on keyboards, those 3 guys played together on almost all the projects they were involved with. Hal Blaine said once, "the toughest part of the day wasn't recording 16-18 straight but just getting a parking space in downtown Los Angeles :).
Hope that helps .. Roger C.

I still collect autographs - still music and the FUNK BROTHERS - ARE MOTOWN ANSWER TO LOS ANGELES' THE WRECKING CREW. THEY BOTH added so much to our lives in the music.
I have seen the TV show on the Funk Brothers about 4 times - and someone out there must have some autographs and addresses - I would pay for any help in that area.
