"He tortures me, you know. Every day, brother. Odin himself sees to it personally, and believe me, there is no end to his creativity. Every. Single. Day. This... this isn't living." Mimir spitting facts. There are fates worse than death. Staying stuck in the tree and getting tortured endlessly by the Aesir for knowledge is not really "living". If he gets reanimated, he gets to join Kratos and Atreus in their adventures and see the world again while offering them his wisdom (albeit he can't move on his own). If he dies and stays dead, he's free from all of it. It really is a "no-lose" situation as far as he's concerned.
Something I only noticed now, at 4:20 just before Mimir speaks, you can hear wind. The second he starts to say "he tortures me you know" it's dead silent
Mimir: "You need to cut off me head." Kratos: "..." Mimir: "What? You've never cut off someones head before?" *Flashbacks to Helios* Kratos: "Not really....cut...off..."
Mimir: Your father won't let me go, Baldur, and he won't let you kill me. You have nothing to offer me. So take your questions, take your threats, take these two worthless wankers, and piss off. Me: Wow. What a way to introduce a character.
Not counting Orkos (Ares' Son with one of the Furies that helped him in Ascension) whom was the only one that asked Kratos to give him an honorable death AND a funeral pyre!
Hooooooooooooly crap, imagine If Mimir just pulled a 180, you see we still haven't seen Mimir get really mad but there's a deep hatred for Odin. Imagine Odin meets a more cruel fate where Mimir traps him in that tree and tortures him.
I read somewhere that GOW's depiction is truer to the myths than Marvel's. Odin and all norse gods were more on the grey side. However, apparently the biggest liberty GOW took is in the depiction of Baldr who is pretty much regarded as norse Jesus. Can't complain though. Baldr makes a very compelling villain.
If Freya had not been willing to resurrect him or if she couldn't, the last words of Mimir, the smartest man alive, would have been "Fair enough." and i find that very funny.
I guess you missed the part 'HE PERSONALLY TORTURES ME EVERY DAY WITH NO END TO HIS CREATIVITY' compared to Prometheus who had to endure the same form of torture every single day Mimir's ability to retain his sanity and well as his fighting spirit just goes to show the strength of his character.
Mimir realised that using his knowledge to advise Odin usually resulted in Odin taking the most violent path possible, and made plans to leave. Odin fancied keeping him around.
Exactly what it sounded like? It's basically just a retelling of prometheus being bound to a giant rock and having his innards eaten every day by a big ass bird for making the mistake of pissing off Zeus. Same concept just different methods of torture each day.
Exactly what he means. Every single day, Odin stops by to personally inflict pain onto him in different ways. ""There is no end to his creativity." means that every time is a new original way to torture him: one day flaying, the next day ripping out nails, the 3rd day branding, and etc.
Personally, I would prefer Beerus the destroyer from Dragonball super who just destroys things because of what he is than the sadistic fearful hypocrite that Odin sounds like in terms of character. Let me just say that creative torture sounds really perverted though in this day, things such as cyber bullying where you don’t even have to show your face to the people you insult is the norm, tragic really... until someone can make humor out of it, like Mimir.
Odin talked a lot of sense in Ragnarok, but no matter how well he tried to justify his actions I never forgot what he did to Mimir and that meant he could never be trusted
So is it that Baldur hunts Kratos because Odin told him to in exchange for mortality and the ability to feel? That's kinda what i inferred because I'm not quite finished the game yet. I already know how it ends so 'spoilers' are welcome
terraincognita69 Baldur was sent to track down Kratos' wife, not him. Odin likely wanted to torture her for info about how to get into Jotunheim's inner reaches and steal the secrets of the giants, unaware that she is long dead. Kratos and Atreus fighting him and the brothers set off a long chain of fights that ended in Baldur's death, and Ragnarok starting.
Kratos have superhuman strength, so you cannot compare him to your average puny human, so kratos can do that much quicker than normal human could, you do know that bear can cut of your head with one swing of his claws and his foot , and you do know that kratos is like milions of times stronger than bear, and his axe is like tousends of times strogner and better than bear claws, so dont be stupid, there is there is no "let this one slide." it would be stupid and unrealistic if it took kratos more than one hit to cut his head of, DONT COMPARE NORMAL WEAK HUMANS TO KRATOS , kratos is much much much much stronger .

Mimir's voice actor is great.
+Z3us
Celebrimbor: "Suffer me now!"
Mimir: "Fair enough."
Z3us really? That's actually amazing because both characters are perfectly acted and in this scene there is also the guy who voice acted talion
He also narrates the God of War audiobook
He's also Nihlus and the Turian councilor in Mass Effect
He’s also senator armstrong
Mimir was the best travel buddy anyone can ask for
109 years of torture, that's fucked.
Lol, play GOW, Zeus was far worse
More like 39,000 days of torture
@asuraspath2262 Was he though?
I love how casually Kratos says he's going to cut Mimir's head off.
Something I only noticed now, at 4:20 just before Mimir speaks, you can hear wind. The second he starts to say "he tortures me you know" it's dead silent
Nice to see Kratos have genuine allies for once.
saljpal3 with all the killing he does one tends to forget that Kratos can love and appreciate his bonds.
Mimir: "You need to cut off me head."
Kratos: "..."
Mimir: "What? You've never cut off someones head before?"
*Flashbacks to Helios*
Kratos: "Not really....cut...off..."
don't forget all the medusas
Kratos 'pulled' Helios' head off
Funny you mentioned that !
Your comment's aged very nicely over these 5 years.
Well, the DLC just gave Kratos an unexpected reminder.
I think it's the first time the Head requested to be cut off.
It’s rare kratos makes me laugh
Never thought comedy and GoW would work, but here it is.
Mimir makes me even prouder to be Scottish
"I can't watch!"
*Clearly watches in the background by sneaking a peak* 05:24
Ahhh very good observation😂
While Kratos talks to Mimir you can still hear Atreus trying to cut the tree
Mimir: Your father won't let me go, Baldur, and he won't let you kill me. You have nothing to offer me. So take your questions, take your threats, take these two worthless wankers, and piss off.
Me: Wow. What a way to introduce a character.
Kratos: “I’m going to cut off your head now.”
Mimir: “Fair enough.”
Me: 😂😂😂
The first time that Kratos has made me laugh XD
* mimir explains Torture by odin .
Kratos: new target locked ..next ..odin
XD
One of the few times Kratos has taken a head for comedy
Hearing little Atreus is so sweet
Fair enough
Mimir must’ve given Kratos some flashbacks to Prometheus and that damn bird.
Not counting Orkos (Ares' Son with one of the Furies that helped him in Ascension) whom was the only one that asked Kratos to give him an honorable death AND a funeral pyre!
Famous last words: "Fair enough."
Such a chill guy
Mimir's eye is Fujitsu.
Let's head back to Mimir's tree
You know, compared to how he removed Helios’ head, that was a clean slash.
0:07 that shhh did not spund like it came from kratos
Hooooooooooooly crap, imagine If Mimir just pulled a 180, you see we still haven't seen Mimir get really mad but there's a deep hatred for Odin. Imagine Odin meets a more cruel fate where Mimir traps him in that tree and tortures him.
Those game's entire point is ''be better''
I'm curious about Odin backstory now whether he was evil in Norse mythology
He wasnt to my knowledge, however God of War is known for taking liberties with depicting stuff.
he was still a prick but not as bad as depicted here.
I read somewhere that GOW's depiction is truer to the myths than Marvel's. Odin and all norse gods were more on the grey side. However, apparently the biggest liberty GOW took is in the depiction of Baldr who is pretty much regarded as norse Jesus. Can't complain though. Baldr makes a very compelling villain.
yeah with Baldr it seems they took a complete 180 with his character.
they're probably making odin a bit more evil than he is meant to be as well granted he was still a prick in the original mythology.
Still funny how, despite Mimir saying no weapon could free him from his bonds, Atreus still tries with his little knife.
He really is a nice kid
If Freya had not been willing to resurrect him or if she couldn't, the last words of Mimir, the smartest man alive, would have been "Fair enough." and i find that very funny.
*Fair Enough*
Why did Odin imprison mimir like that, he seems like a chill dude
I guess you missed the part 'HE PERSONALLY TORTURES ME EVERY DAY WITH NO END TO HIS CREATIVITY' compared to Prometheus who had to endure the same form of torture every single day Mimir's ability to retain his sanity and well as his fighting spirit just goes to show the strength of his character.
Let say he had more knowledge then Odin
Mimir realised that using his knowledge to advise Odin usually resulted in Odin taking the most violent path possible, and made plans to leave. Odin fancied keeping him around.
Ah, maybe Odin can’t live at peace with himself, needs a sense of thrill from torturing people.
@@meowrage9165 mimir : is smarter than odin
Odin : *and i take that personally*
'...and I have answer to your every question.'
Fail to answer the first one.
Let's 'head' to the witch house then.
Nezt Tele You "heading" to the top
Boo!
Armand Castro
I meant after Mimir head cut off 😅
Nezt Tele oh sorry. I guess my mind "head" to a different direction
Nezt Tele. Good pun, dude!
0:31 Apparently that’s Troy Baker (AKA Joel Miller)
Also known as Talion, facing the very same guy who possessed his body after his death.
What does mimir mean when he says Odin "tortures him" and "there is no end to his creativity"?
Exactly what it sounded like? It's basically just a retelling of prometheus being bound to a giant rock and having his innards eaten every day by a big ass bird for making the mistake of pissing off Zeus. Same concept just different methods of torture each day.

Odín: My library!!!!
The story of How I met your uncle
0:51 doesn’t it remind of TFS Broly?
Black Tanooki yup. I didn't notice it the first time
I don't get it.
2:51 They were both frustrated
He's the best character in the game
0:19 😂
Dude needs a shirt, winter must get cold on that high in the atmosphere.
Odin talked a lot of sense in Ragnarok, but no matter how well he tried to justify his actions I never forgot what he did to Mimir and that meant he could never be trusted
Is the 109 winters a reference to I have no mouth and I must scream?
I don't think so I think he just means he's been tortured for 109 years
Why does one of Thor's sons sound like brynolf from skyrim
Odin tortured Mimir almost 40,000 separate times. Approximately.
39,812 days straight of being tortured assuming that Mimir had been imprisoned there for exactly 109 years.
it sucks that all the giants died
ReaperOfTheNorthLegion Angroboda is still alive. Hopefully, there's a remnant.
ReaperOfTheNorthLegion World Serpent still alive.
Celebrimbor and Talion meet again
Iaach! Mimir has thermite holes in his body.... gave me trypophobia
I know nothing of Norse lore, does he ever get his body back ?
Doubtful, but of the many ways of bending mythology off the charted path as God Of War tends to do, Mimir is a head of the curve~

Mimir with his body looks wrong
Why would you ever play this game with the music off?
To prevetn copyright
Did Mimir lose something of his soul when he was reanimated?
Don't think so.

@@TheUndyingCrystal so I'm guessing Odin is more brutal than Zeus
Why did odin trap mimir
Cool
It takes more than one hit to cut someone’s head off, but knowing Kratos (aka the biggest badass in history) I can let this one slide.

I would like to assume it was, maybe to prevent copyright.
