I love how Mimir told Kratos not to worry when Kratos was shocked at seeing his Father’s Voice and see him in dark thundering clouds then later on Mimir proceeded to Geek over the fact that he was “on the hip of the Bloody Ghost of Sparta”
It’s understandable how alien hel is to kratos. The lands of the dead are in different realms and the rules are different as well. A place of icy torture where the criminals and cruel go. Make sense. But those who die by accident, disease, and age? The difference between where you go isn’t determined by the life you live but the moment you died? Sounds a lot crueler than his afterlife system.
He still is. Mimir even said it himself. he says he is reanimated yes but not exactly the same. His soul is on the head to keep him aware as the illusion of life.
Kratos makes a comment questioning it being dishonorable to grow old. Spartan tradition calls for dishonorable burial for those who did not die in combat, including dying of age. The concept of growing old being bad shouldn't be strange to Kratos.
In Greek mythology, EVERYONE that dies goes to the Underworld, itself has divided areas that aren't separated by being in different realms altogether. The fact that Kratos comes from a culture that prides itself on warfare, military service and the traditions it entails, he finds it strange that the Aesir treating elders that died regardless of their lifetime spent as something dishonorable. Spartans may fall in battle, yet sometimes they can survive the wars they fought in and become legends for it by dying of old age.
22:08 I actually like his little hand touch. He's almost saying "Thank you" because the heart will let Atreus survive, and also "I'm sorry" because he had to kill it to do so. 22:20 And when he looks back at the troll its almost like he's looking at his past... what he used to be and what he still (sort of) is.
xudex98 Because the troll’s name was Mattugr Helson. In the Norse mythology, the ruler of Hel/Helheim, also named Hel is the daughter of Loki, and the troll’s name was “HEL-SON”, get it?

Mirmir saying ''not even Odin can survive this cold'' could mean that if Kratos has to fight Odin in the next game, it might be in Hel since Kratos can take the cold, and Odin cant.
Calling it now as a crazy theory. Mimir is actually the ancient Greek god of revel and nature Pan who escaped Greece long before Kratos whole ordeal and and he traveled all the way to Midgard to escape Zeus

There's even a story that during the Olympics, an old man was looking a seat and all the other spectators told him to fuck off basically, until he got to the Spartans, when which every man stood up and offered their seat
For any who is asking that is not a Chicken. It's a Giant Eagle called Hraesvelgr. He guard the world ends. But on this Game, he is the reason the Helheim filled with Cold Winds, while he Saw how the Deads live.
22:10 Kratos really had no quarrel with the keeper. It was nothing personal and he showed some remorse. But he needed to save his son no matter what the cost.
Its called Hraesvelgr. He is a Jotunn or Giant that is a Giant Eagle or Vulture or a raptorial bird of prey that sits at the end of the world and blows cold winds.
One thing that does surprise me about this area.. Hel herself, never once showed up. You would think of sensing something foreign and powerful alone poking around in her realm would cause her to investigate...let alone her gatekeeper being killed. Then again, you don't see Odin showing up, in the game, nor Thor...well at least not till the very end of course..so...
Not sure if anyone noticed but after he is done removing the bridge keepers heart he places his hand on its chest. This could either be a sign of respect or sorrow. He did not want to kill it but he had to

No, i think Helson had that name because he was created with the role of Hel Guardian
Dude, Kratos must be having a serious Vietnam ptsd flashbacks with the way he yells and fights!!!!
What will you do now FATHER
You can no Longer hide behind the Skirt of Athena
" Athena is Dead because of the Rage that consumes you, What More will you Destroy?! "
The Hands of Death could not defeat me, The Sisters of Fate could not Hold me. And you! Will not see the End of this day
I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE!
lol "behind the skirt of Athena"
PETULANT CHILD, I WILL TOLERATE YOUR INSOLENCE NO MORE
*Zeus preparers a lighting bolt while Gaia attacks. He throws it at Gaia and she and Kratos are now falling down.*
Mimir: I'd really hoped never to see this place again.
Holy shit Mimir i forgot you have been dead before
He still is. Mimir even said it himself. he says he is reanimated yes but not exactly the same. His soul is on the head to keep him aware as the illusion of life.
The only game that made me feel cold, creepy when playing in Hel especially hearing it’s music.. this is why God of war is the best game ever for me
Kratos makes a comment questioning it being dishonorable to grow old. Spartan tradition calls for dishonorable burial for those who did not die in combat, including dying of age. The concept of growing old being bad shouldn't be strange to Kratos.
MrAcuriteOf1337 kratos not look that old if he shave his beard hr look cool again
I think that if you die old you should at least did something honorable in Sparta like saved a comrade or killed a commander or something like that
MrAcuriteOf1337 maybe he was surprised that, this place also thinks that dying old is dishonorable.
Spartans may fall in battle, yet sometimes they can survive the wars they fought in and become legends for it by dying of old age.
janumski _ or starting a War and actually winning it. THAT is how Spartan legends are forged in the first place.
I’m just glad Mimir was there to keep us company. I can’t imagine the game without Mimir
1:27 I love how brok offered to help kratos
Kills someone
Has to fight their soul in Hel
Stonks
Brok is a real bro the guy went to helheim to help Kratos despite knowing it's one of the most dangerous realms
Anyone else notice how he put his hand on the hel beast after taken his heart, almost like he's thanking the thing because it basically saved his kid.
Kratos is back in hell
He don't even have to die this time
Thats the reason why the Captain didnt appear this time
Imagine if Kratos Brought the Nemean Cestus with Him....
They're destroyed however
A Shame he left out those awesome Greek Relics. The Blade of Olympus would've looked awesome on this game.
Maybe some of those might make a return in God of war 5
You can tell kratos even feels bad for the bridge keeper because he put his hand on his chest at 22:12
So Great-Grandpa has to take Great-Grandson's heart?
Just tell a bedtime story or give him candy lol.
does anyone actually get the joke-
Cause mythologicaly that giant is a descendant of loki?
xudex98 Because the troll’s name was Mattugr Helson. In the Norse mythology, the ruler of Hel/Helheim, also named Hel is the daughter of Loki, and the troll’s name was “HEL-SON”, get it?
I can’t wait to explore the rest of helheim and encounter that bird in the next installments. I notice a lot of broken bridges at 23:30
I suspect Kratos may find himself back there after the opening bossfight. Unless of course Freya drags him to Folkvang, so she can deal with him personally.
GmodPlusWoW true!
22:46 kratos: zeus my father
mimir: your father was zeus ?! wait well that explains a lot
me: i've been waiting for this moment's so hard to Nostalgiaaaaaaa
"Hmm, I hit these guys with the shield, and nothing happened. Let me keep doing exactly that, and only that."
Square, square, triangle....
This must be one "Hel" of a trip
I love how all the nordic mythos is very helpful to Kratos, must be a helluva shock from working with the Greeks who seemingly betrayed him on a whim even when the Gods weren't hunting him down.
You hear that
Growing old is a sin
The norse gods are idiots
10:35, essentially
Alfheim < Helheim < Midgard in terms of the speed of time
Essentially, Kratos has more time to get the heart, but will have less time should some crisis comes to Alfheim and Kratos has to go back there.
Alfhiem, then Midgard, and then Helhiem. Helheim moves slower than Midgard
after Kratos getting heart i lost track of thoughts.
Wtf you just said?
Midgard in the middle of the order innit?
@@SaiRam-nz9sy No, Midgard is the realm in which you now percieve. Therefore the last of the three
Mirmir saying ''not even Odin can survive this cold'' could mean that if Kratos has to fight Odin in the next game, it might be in Hel since Kratos can take the cold, and Odin cant.
That, or Mimir could be exaggerating.
no need I guess cuz the Ragnarok which would be "Odin's demise" is nigh
Nope.
6:24 dude went flying lol
Shannon Roberts 😂
Kratos: *Sees Asgard* The hell is this place? Ass place....Asberg....
Mimir: Oh that's Asgard!
What are those!! 0:36
"That's gotta be a family heirloom..."
"NO."
That joke... I'm out💀💀💀
CaptainHAX Gaming
I thought u was roasting Kratos boots for a second there lmao
CaptainHAX Gaming LOL
I just wrote this :( Guess I gotta delete it now
I like how kratos always has a severed head
It not a God of War game unless it has decapitation in it
This time the head asked for it to be cut off.
GOW 1 - medusa´s head
GOW 2 - euryale´s head
GOW 3 - Helios´s head
GOW 4 - Mimir´s head
Classic Kratos
at least it was voluntary and not the "no please dont rip my head off" thing
Calling it now as a crazy theory. Mimir is actually the ancient Greek god of revel and nature Pan who escaped Greece long before Kratos whole ordeal and and he traveled all the way to Midgard to escape Zeus
This is what sealed Brok as my absolute favorite charater.
Kratos: **Breaks some vases**
Me, a Zelda nerd: Ahh, so you have chosen the way of the Link.
I hear the sound of River Gjöll
Running cold and deep
Its golden bridge hangs in the dark
The bridge that Modgunn keeps
Over the bridge, all through the night
Hel is getting near
There are the gates, towering high
Afflicting me with fear
Adam Hreither s
21:50 Kratos, best Aztec priest.
I love how they did the opposite of hell, it was very cold instead of very hot
Thank the mythology for that
13:49 That plays into the fact that Sparta was the only polis in Greece that respected their elders because, well, beware of an old man in a profession where young men die. There's even a story that during the Olympics, an old man was looking a seat and all the other spectators told him to fuck off basically, until he got to the Spartans, when which every man stood up and offered their seat
If you think about it, Kratos delivers everyone he fights to Valhalla, makes sense why the Norse see him so highly.
For any who is asking that is not a Chicken. It's a Giant Eagle called Hraesvelgr. He guard the world ends. But on this Game, he is the reason the Helheim filled with Cold Winds, while he Saw how the Deads live.
I just imagine when Hel, Loki's daughter gets to Helhiem and just flips out because "Granpa, did you really have to break so much?!!"
Not born yet though
"Zeus was your father? That explains a lot..." Mimir
Kratos became so stoic in his old age.
0:24 "Athena? _dead_ giveaway"
Even flextape can't fix that 💀💀
15:44 **Senua of Senua's Sacrifice: Hellblade coughs in the distance.**
Red Baron that is one crossover I would love to see.
incinerator950
Or was it...
22:10 Kratos really had no quarrel with the keeper. It was nothing personal and he showed some remorse. But he needed to save his son no matter what the cost.
For those of you wondering what that big bird looking thing in the Background is, i believe it is the Goddess Hel that rules over Helheim
Pineapple where I haven't seen it
Pineapple hel is not a bird
It’s the Corpse Swallower
We will see Hel the goddess later in the game
Its called Hraesvelgr. He is a Jotunn or Giant that is a Giant Eagle or Vulture or a raptorial bird of prey that sits at the end of the world and blows cold winds.
Kratos: "It is dishonorable to grow old..."
Also Kratos: OLD.
Hel is not born yet
Hel is also the daughter of loki
If we ever return to Helheim for the third time, I wonder who else are we going to see. His old family? The other gods? Deimos?
This what happen if you bring greek sword to norse
Auto Sniper norse swords and metallurgy in general were far superior to Greek ones..
For one they were steel not bronze
But I'd like to think that each blacksmith would appreciate observing each others craftsmanship. Maybe learn something new.
Lord Freeza Yes, that's what happens when you compare weapons from 500 b.c. (approximately) with weapons from the Middle Age
The blades of Kaos are supernatural. They are not man made. They were Ares's
Grant Moore yep that makes it quite on par with thor's mjolnir
21:30 everytime goosebumbs perfect how the music comes in at that moment masterpeace also here 22:09 not normal i love these two parts to much in gow
Interesting how Mirmir says that not even Odin could survive Helheim's cold yet Kratos can
I love that opening theme music to VGS. Absolutely brilliant.
Not sure if anyone noticed but after he is done removing the bridge keepers heart he places his hand on its chest. This could either be a sign of respect or sorrow. He did not want to kill it but he had to
18:11
Anyone else thinks he's saying stop it. Its like he's trying to say "buddy cut it out I'm just trying to do my job.
I like this version of hell. The further away from the gods you are, the further you are from any warmth.
I love seeing all the fans responding about Kratos' culture shock concerning Spartan views VS Norse view on old age. All the love and understanding Kratos, a man who loses anyone he cares about to the gods, gets from us all.
If Kratos ever needs an army again, I already know where he'll find one.
God it was so weird to use his blades of chaos in this perspective XD
Whoever made this video is a true and experienced gamer.
We all love exploring the unknown. I bet if he wasn't recording a video, he'd spend hours here just on this mission.
“Where’s the little turd?”
🤣
13:30
I like that kratos is trying to learn about other realms by talking with mimir.
kinda has to so he can save his son fast. He needs to make sure he kills the right one and doesn't make a bad choice to take longer.
