How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer - Dinette, Bed, Cabinets and more (Part 6)

  • Today I'm building the front convertible dinette and sleeping area in the DIY Travel Trailer Project. The Dinette includes a table with seating that converts to a bed and also has a drawer and some flip up storage under the seating. I also added some vinyl flooring and cabinets above the dinette that will also double as the distribution area for the 12V wiring.
    Next up on the Travel trailer project will be to run the 12v wiring, add interior lighting, add a coupler and weight distribution/sway control, and finally build the kitchen area. After that will be to take her camping!
    Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!
    Joe

    I have 2 10' shelves in my living room held up with 4 of those exact brackets on each. I had my 220lb friend swing on the shelves after I hung them and it held just fine. I love how strong they are, and that they were the cheapest brackets HD had.

    The only change I think I would make would be a horizontal cleat for the table top to rest on when it's down as a bed. Those short vertical ones may wind up poking someone in the calves more than a horizontal one would. I really like your build, you have great skills and are definitely making a much better trailer than you could ever buy! Linda and I send our best.

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  5 років тому +1

      Thank you! I appreciate that :)
      regarding the support cleat... I actually thought of that first... but the reason I went with the vertical ones is so there would be some space where nothing was behind your leg, versus the horizontal would be along the fully length. But only time will tell I guess... if there end up being bothersome I'll add a horizontal cleat :D

    I'm really enjoying this build series on the camp trailer. I've been think of doing something like this for some time now and it is giving me some insights. Keep it up when done I would be interested in a price break down.

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  5 років тому +5

      Thanks Matt! If you are thinking about building a trailer I can't recommend the forum tnttt.com (teardrops and tiny travel trailers).... Its mostly folks like you and I that have built all sorts of amazing home built trailers. LOTS of great info there! I haven't posted in years but have been meaning to throw this build on there when I'm done. Just a great site.
      As for a cost break down... I may do something on this at the end. But it will be very general as a lot of things have broad ranges in prices and I there are so many different options that can span that price greatly. But I will likely do something on that and maybe contrast it to a used one versus a new. I can tell you now that a used one is likely a better value to get a trailer considering the time I have invested into this... but I'm still trending way better than buying a new one. haha.. not sure if that made sense or not :)
